Can we not just place a seat topper, also do you have a video to remove the lumber?
Perhaps some will find relief with a topper. I tried and it didn't work. I suppose you could custom cut a foam block and set it on top of the seat. You'd lose the heat and you might lose the person in seat sensor capability. It also doesn't look or feel right. I tried it and gave up. I know others who also tried and also gave up. In fact most that come to me for a custom seat have already tried several toppers, spacers and other approaches.
As far as another video for the lumbar. That's a good idea. I keep forgetting to do that. I finally have a complete seat assembly, the entire seat, including the upper, in my "collection" now. I suppose it would be easier to demonstrate the process on that than inside my car, where it's tight. I have the video on my "list" of things to do. I also have a written step by step process that I've shared. I can email that if you plan to do it.
You can text or phone me directly if you like.

Great video! I've read that some folks are installing paper or 1/4 - 3/8in high density floor mat between the springs and foam and are having some relief. Do you have to take the seat cushion out or is there a way to just slide in the "spacer"?
It would be easier to unbolt the four floor bolts to gain good access. In any case you need to unclip at least the front and outside clips holding the seat cushion to the metal frame. The risk I would warn anyone slipping anything in is that there's a wire going through from the top of the foam, underneath the faux leather, through the foam then underneath the metal base springs. If you break or accidentally unclip or open the connector, and it's fragile, you'll have car problems. That is the person in seat sensor. If you do it carefully, you might be able to work around that wire. While this approach might be helpful for some, I tried all these approaches. For me they were all inadequate. So I changed the foam. Another quick fix is to "fill" the top of the seat with an aftermarket seat cushion. For some this might raise you up just enough.
Great video. Is it possible to make the back support recline fully so people can lie down flat? Right now it only goes back to about 135 degrees or so. It would be great to be able to do 180.
I don't have an ability to make that change. Instead, when I want to lay down flat, I lower both rear seat backs and lay down. I'm over 6' tall and it's fine. I have slept in the Model 3 several nights with what I think is the best mattress. The "bearded Tesla Guy" first showed it to me and I tested it in his car.
@@georgeborrelli3134 Thank you for the reply. At some point, I plan to take the seat out and see if the gear can be modified to allow the flat lie down as I think that is the best way of car camping. I currently car camp just like what you mentioned but find it is not the most ideal use of space. I hope someone more experienced than me tries before me. :)
I have the metal base but not the upper. So I'm not sure what stops it. But I noticed it stops just above the rear seat. You'd have to remove the rear seat bottom to go any lower at all.
In addition to a mechanical change of some kind to the front seat
@@georgeborrelli3134 Thank you. From your video, I was thinking maybe the shape of the upper back frame needs to be shaved (as it looks to be hitting the bottom frame to limit the angle.

I don't know exactly what change would make it work.
I went out to our cars and compared. I also tried to intuit what the upper does by looking at the bottom, but I couldn't. I'd need to have the upper metal frame here to figure this out.
But I did notice that in my car with a manual seat, I could lower the back to the floor. If this was very important to me, I'd swap out seats.
This might be challenging for the computer though. The computer in the Tesla expects certain module. It would have to be tricked.
I have issues with my model Y. Can you help me modify the seat?
Yes, please contact me and I'll do my best. You can text or call. (6+1)0neNine-Tw0FourFour-(6+1)0neTwoFour.
