I did it twice with out the rope all you have to do is keep the cylinder tdc and to get the keepers a good magnet and to put the keepers back a skinny long flat screw driver ! I’m about to do my third one ! Great job on this video the hardest part will be cleaning the secondary air port with the engine on the car !
That’s easy. I just recently replaced the cooling pipe that runs thru the engine. Did all the work with the help of my dad. Common issue with the 4.8is. Great job by the way especially deciding to do it your self. Save a lot of money that way. Me personally saved around 4 - 5 k.
Step 1 - Cylinder down Step 2 - insert the rope Step 3 - rotated the engine till it stops Step 4- compress the valve spring all the way down and push on the rocker to assure that the rope is holding the valve up. Step 5- YOU CAN NOT BE ON TDC USING THE ROPE IT NOT POSSIBLE
Heads up! Just have Tony do it for you. Thats what I did. He knows this engine inside and out. Coolant pipe too. He loves doing alternator gaskets while he is down there!
So when youve done all 4 seals on a piston and are going to put the rockers back on, how would you do so with the rope jammed inbetween the the piston and valves? would you pull the rope out and then turn the engine enough for the piston to drop again to be able to drop the valves enough to put the rockers back on? Or would that throw anything off rotating the engine with the rockers off pls help thank you!
Hey Tony 2007 BMW alpine b7 Changing valve stems seals and wondering if you knows the torque specs for the crankshaft I check online can’t find any torque specs for any bolts or ect. Thank you

Great video thank you for posting it. I recently bought a 2006 650i. It had the valve seals done just before I bought it, (I saw the engine stripped down in the middle of the job at the shop). After a few weeks I have started to notice a puff of smoke on cold starts only; not every start but maybe 50% of the time. I changed out the ccv’s yesterday as a precaution. I still had smoke briefly on start this morning. Could this be a bad valve seal repair job or is there another culprit I could explore? Thank you!

At 15:35 video shows bringing cylinder 1 to TDC then to insert the rope at this point. At 23:30 it shows turning the engine over to bring cylinder 1 up to put enough pressure on the rope in order to hold valves up to put the keepers on. Shouldn't the rope be inserted when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke? Also, once your ready to remove the rope, you can't rotate clockwise further past TDC (because the rope is keep the piston bound from going any further) is the only way to then to rotate the engine in counter clockwise to back off the rope? I've alway heard it is NOT safe to do this but I can not find any information on the N62 whether it's ok to do so. Causing possible slack in the timing chain and problems with that thereafter. I guess it's okay rotate the N62 counter clockwise a bit to remove the rope? I didn't see it demonstrated in the video but I don't see any other way.
When you use the rope, YOU CAN NOT GET TO TDC , rope does get inserted when the piston is on the bottom and then turn the engine over untill you feel the engine it stops.
