Excellent choice and well executed project! Nice choice in leaving it as is. It allows people to see the work you put into the car. I would consider clear coating it before it does much more rusting though. Perhaps you could get some of VGG's Wipe on Clear Coat. No spraying involved and it looks great without taking away from the patina. P.S. - First of your videos I've watched. I was impressed! You've earned my subscription!!! 👍
Very nicely done. The popular thing to do out here in the Southwest is taking the post war cars and putting them on Mid 70's to Mid 80's full size cars frames and building Low Buck Hot Rods. The reason they are using them is because you can buy them running and driving for less than a $1000, the wheelbase is almost dead-on so there's very very little modifications to the frame or the body needed, the parts are still available and cheap plus you can still work on them for nothing more than a couple wrenches and screw drivers. I have a friend that has a 54 Chevy Fleetstyle sitting on a 78 Olds Delta 88 frame with the original Olds 307 motor and auto trans that he did over a 3 day weekend, including a custom light green Rustoleum paint job. All-in Cost after he sold everything he didn't use in the swap was right around $1200.
Yes. This would be an almost direct bolt on onto a G body but I wanted to try something I'd never seen before. My cost all said and done was around $300
@@themishapgarage3403 does that $300 include interior and paint though and how long did it take you? I'm not talking smack about your build, you did a great job, but like I said, from 2 cars to one including paint and interior over a weekend and driving it to work on Monday for $1200 is hard to beat.
@@TheREALOC1972 Plymouth was $500, Buick was free, glass was $250, wheels and tires came off of a free car, misc other stuff was roughly $150ish. Sold the Plymouth engine, trans, frame, and even the rims someone wanted, sold doors and hood off of the Buick, and then scrapped everything else. Of course I had a lot of hours into it though.
@@themishapgarage3403 Yep, alot of hours, labor, even if it's own isn't free because there's other things you should/could be doing. I look at it as my time on my own project is worth 1/3 of what shop rate is, Shop rate in my area is $120 an hour, so 1/3 of that is $40 an so lets say he worked 5 hours on Friday night and then 2 10 hour days on Saturday and Sunday, that's 25 hours or $1000 in labor. so His total, for me would be, $2200, which is STILL really good considering it's done., the only thing he's changed since building it is put some different wheels on it.
Cool car! Nice job! thanks for all the details on the steps it took to get through it. lots of bumps along the way but you got through it!! After 10 or 12 popsicles you new helper would probably improve alot!! :-) Awesome!!
He is doing much better. Some of the welds are on the car. Slower me down but still worth it. No instructions to follow so it's a lot of changing directions on the fly.
Great work. I used to think there was a plan involved before starting these swaps now I learn it’s just a fight to the finish. I loved all my 3800 cars. Please replace the thermostat! 😭
Plan went out the window half way through. Thermostat, coolant elbows and intake gaskets were replaced when I took the Dex cool out and switched it to green. Had to edit a lot out.
Loving this, give you a LOT of credit for even trying this. I've always wanted to chop the top on a Jeep grand Cherokee and make a street rod out of it, not going to happen for me.
In Branson, Missouri I've seen a car where a 1950 Ford front and rear have been grafted on an early 1990s Taurus. It's so well done you can't tell it's not an original 1950 unkess parked and you look close. Have never caught the guy to talk, but I'd like to.
I like how you plowed forward, crossing obstacles with solutions. I'm a little prejudice on body swaps, because of what I've seen people selling as"just needs finishing" in the classifieds I like your finished product.
Yeah it took a little more than I planned. There's still a few tiny adjustments I need to make but I needed a new daily. It's definitely good enough for that.

You have got some very nice fabricating skills. Well done.
Thank ya sir
@@themishapgarage3403 you're welcome! A pleasure to watch!
I appreciate it. Thanks for following along. I've used Poppy's Patina before. I like it. I might try the VGG stuff next though.
3rd day I said naaa about to flip then i started seeing the welding and started seeing progress.nice car great job 👍
Thanks for sticking around. A lot of people never took me seriously when I said I was going to do it.
It was fun watching you. You are very talented!very cool car.great job.cant wait till next time.
Thank ya. I have some wild ideas for stuff to do. Just have to get through customer things first.
A budget ICON car! I love it! Great job!
Thank you. Didn't really go in with a set budget but came out way cheaper than I thought. Happy about that.
Yes, my shop rate is $85-$100 an hour. I try not to factor that in on my own stuff. It makes me depressed lol
Very nice. Excellent door alignment. Better than some of my Mustangs.
Doors are one of my OCDs
Nice work. Plus the car gets one of the best engines ever built in it.
Thank you. Hard to argue with that!
Great job. It always amazes me how folks like you can accomplish art like this.
Thank ya. Just takes time, a little imagination, caffeine, and stubbornness.
Cool car! Nice job! thanks for all the details on the steps it took to get through it. lots of bumps along the way but you got through it!! After 10 or 12 popsicles you new helper would probably improve alot!! :-) Awesome!!
He is doing much better. Some of the welds are on the car. Slower me down but still worth it. No instructions to follow so it's a lot of changing directions on the fly.
Fantastic! Great display of time, talent and fabrication skills. I hope I’m around to watch the next project.
Thank you. Should be in late spring. Customer stuff comes first.
I was skeptical at first, but it turned out looking pretty cool. Nice job dude.
Yeah, didn't turn out exactly like the beginning plans but I'd like to think it's better.
looks great. i love that you kept the welds. total frankencar.
Thank you. I call them her cosmetic surgery scars.
I've never seen anything like that. Sounds like it would be a super cool project. You should probably do it.
In Branson, Missouri I've seen a car where a 1950 Ford front and rear have been grafted on an early 1990s Taurus. It's so well done you can't tell it's not an original 1950 unkess parked and you look close. Have never caught the guy to talk, but I'd like to.
Now that's something very odd. I'd like to see that one.
That was an amazing job. That car looks great, and I bet drives fantastic.
Thank ya. Drives just like a LeSabre would. Get a lot of looks when you set the cruise and pass everyone on the interstate.
Love it! Fun video. I think it looks great without finishing.
Plan is to leave it as it is for a while. Maybe put some clear on it in the spring.
I like how you plowed forward, crossing obstacles with solutions.
I'm a little prejudice on body swaps, because of what I've seen people selling as"just needs finishing" in the classifieds
I like your finished product.
Yeah it took a little more than I planned. There's still a few tiny adjustments I need to make but I needed a new daily. It's definitely good enough for that.
