Cheap and cheerful. I have an '82 SD-1. The JCM800 2203 loves that pedal. They cost the same now as they did back then, which means they're actually much cheaper now.
The kind of tone I heard every night when I was rocking the Sunset Strip in the 80s. My tone leaned a bit more in the Randy Rhoads direction as I would at times use an MXR Distortion Plus script edition from the 70s with no DC plug, so it ate batteries like potato chips, and I had to always keep a screwdriver and 9-volt battery handy in my case. I got tired of that and started using a ProCo Rat with a 9 volt DC plug or an SD-1 with a plug. The truth is the MXR could get very brittle. I think the SD-1 was a better, more modern tone for the time, as well as for our modern times at this moment in music evolution. Great demo.
Great sounds. I get these sounds by using Overloud Rig Player. A combo of BHS JCM800 amp, with SD-1 pedal baked in the profile, + Choptones EVH cab, makes for an amazing 80s tone.
It really works well for those kind of riff, the double stop or inverted power chords (dunno if it's how it's called), or the Van Halen-esque riff. Have you tried 80s trash tone in the likes of Anthrax'd Among the Living tone? Google said it was JCM800, overdrive as booster, duncan JB, and Scott Ian's hands haha Cheers for the good tones, mate!
Hello, a question, if I wanted to play thrash metal, which would sound better? A boss power stack st-2 with a boss super overdrive sd-1 or just a boss metal zone mt-2?
@@lironamsalem7149 Could you share it as well please? (google drive link for example). Leon Tod create a lot of videos, quite difficult to find this IR)
Sounds great! Have you compared this 20W version to the 100W? If so, what differences have you found? Love the SD-1, I use it with my Orange Rockerverb MKii 100.
Unfortunately I don't have the 100W jcm, I got marshall plexi 1987x. The 100W version is legendary, but for studio/home uses the 20W does the job very well, you can't go wrong with the little guy.
Not necessarily, when the pre amp gain is full, you lose clarity and articulation. When you play chords with distortion, you want to hear each note, too much gain does the opposite.
@@lironamsalem7149 i get it. Actually mine is 3/4 to full, depending on which guitar i use. It works well with my setup. Pretty clear and mean as hell..lol🤣🤟🤟✌️
You need to tweek a little bit the dsl40 in order to sound good, especially the high gain channel. The problem of the dsl40 is the harsh treble, sounds like a chiansaw to me. But, you can fix that with EQ pedal and and then it will sound similar to the jcm.
@@lironamsalem7149 weird, because I have the same setup (except with a torpedo captor x - with greenback IRs loaded and using another DAW) but it does not sound this good, and I wonder why
@@nziari256 The torpedo tends to compress the sound, maybe that's the difference. The suhr is an amazing cab clone, it delivers the raw sound of the amp without compressing it. Send me a sample track and your full signal chain, I will try to understand what is the problem.
@@lironamsalem7149 ok thanks so much for letting me know. I will have a shot at the Suhr RL. However there are many famous UA-cam guitarists who get a fantastic sound out of the torpedo too. I just realized I'm only hooking up one XLR cable to my DAW but will try with two for stereo effect and see how that goes.
also there are two Suhr product offerings: one is the $350 load box and another more expensive load box + cab sim with more dials in the front. which one do you have?

I wonder if you put a RAT in front of this, if you could get Nuno’s tone (from the first album), which is my favorite Marshall tone on the planet.
