'If you don't have spare parts, it won't go.' Repairing self-propelled guns in the field
- We came to the Mykolaiv region to film artillerymen of the 63rd Brigade. One of the installations - 2S3 "Akatsiya" - broke down just on the way to us. The military says that this happens because of the age of the hardware itself. Suppose it is not possible to find the necessary spare part for the machine. In that case, it is handed over to a 'Rembat' (repairment battalion), where it can become a donor for other hardware. How the Ukrainian military repairs a self-propelled howitzer in the field - in the hromadske's video.

So positive. Doing miracles with old, dated equipment and professional and brave. As a former soldier my heart bleeds for them. Victory to Ukraine!
Such courage from the soldiers AND the reporter. Thanks from Australia to these brave Ukranians for defending our democracies !!!!
Many thanks!
If you want to know why the Ukraine Soldiers and volunteers are fighting and why they're so effective the young girl from the PRESS is it. She and her yet to be born children are the future of Ukraine. Exceptional bravery on her part to be harms way doing essential video interviews. This American doesen't really care if the audio is in English. We understand it 100% and support your desire for individual freedom.
@Bob Mathieson Cool I should have remembered myself, thanks.
She is good for morale ✌️
Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦❤️🇬🇧
@J Hill ... It has English captions.. Just turn them on... Easy pesy. Enjoy. 👍💖
Nothing was wasted for these soldiers. They know their stuff and looks very motivated- attitude of winners. Go! Ukraine!
Thanks for the English subtitles. Victory and Glory to Ukraine. 🇨🇦🤝🇧🇧
My grandmother on my mothers side was from Poltava Ukraine and she taught me some Ukrainian and since Putin's invasion on Feb 24th. I've able to hear it spoken so often now and
what's kind of amazing I can still understand quite a bit of it even though my grandma passed away in 1963, I've really surprised myself I've retained so much of her mother tongue.
I only learned Ukrainian in 2nd and 3rd grade, then left for the US and haven't spoken it for over 25 years. Since the war began, I've relearned it to the point where I can understand nearly every word. Knowing Russian certainly helped, but still, when there's a will there's a way.
I see that this could be valid point.
We hear part of what Grandmother and Grandfather say or show us until later in life you are doing something and those words are in your head this was how Grandmother did it .
I live in Alabama USA here we grow things food and other and like their Grandmother and Grandfather play an important part of our lives because it's them who made us into who we are today... Stay Safe the Entire free world are sending weapons to Ukraine and my Church just collected two containers of winter coats that will be their soon too. 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇺🇸
Her spirit to do the job, any job, is why Ukraine will win. She had an “I’ll show you” attitude and I love it!
I think those guys enjoyed having that reporter around. I don't understand ukranien but I enjoy hearing it spoken.
Hell yeah they enjoyed having her around!! They pulled a Train off Camera! 🚂
@Ukraineaissance She looks like she’s in her early 20s. Look at her other videos. She’s just very skinny. Children don’t have circles under their eyes.
@Кен и и я Капсикам you are correct sir.
Love the fact your channel shows all sorts of personal history that would never get recorded any other way. Slava Ukrani!
My hat goes off to the reporters and their camera crews at hromadske. Never mind, "crossing to our reporter in Kyiv", these brave folks are at the front line and in the trenches. Glory to Ukraine
True, maybe, in this instance, but I have seen both this reporter and Nastia (and of course their camera person) in situations which were obviously in and close to the front lines, and range, of the enemy. They have my admiration, and clearly that of the troops they interview.
Nothing like a good mechanic when you need one, Glory to Ukraine 🇺🇦🇺🇲
"Good mechanic" is for Russians... Ukrainian use it just because they dont have enough pieces at the moment but I'm pretty sure that in 10 years no one of these analogue stuffs will be present in the UKR Army.
🇺🇦🤝🇺🇸
In the USA we have the phrase hard-core for men like these. They use their wits and tenacity to reach a goal and move swiftly to the next! They live for the next challenge. Slava Ukraini!
Damn straight, these men are very hard core, in a machine that is 40 years old !
Example why ruzzia is losing.
Slava Ukraine !!
I’m feeling claustrophobic just watching. 💙💛🇬🇧 Ukrainians are amazing!
Me to. I starting sweating by seeing this.
Beautiful. Always moving, when they refer to their mission as 'work'.
Everyone of these DEFENDER WARRIORS are Superior Mechanics. Impressive. Good Jam.
Look at the weather, it is changing. Fall is here, winter is right around the corner. I wouldn't want to be a Russian soldier without the winter clothing.
Winter clothing for the Russians are on it's way. Lol !
@Rob The question for me is' Will they fight in it, in another country, with poor logistics, food, equipment and no leadership?
Slava Ukraine !!
I would say the Russians are well familiar with cold weather.
That gun /tank crew and the reporting team are all Heroes for Ukraine. God Bless You All. And the Driver was a very kind man,who showed a true fatherly nature when talking to the reporter. May the Good Lord keep you all safe. Blessings to you from New Zealand.
And more kudos from NZ.
The driver is such a kind man! Like how he is talking to the woman. They all are really nice actually, but he is really like a father to her. Doesn´t want to offend her but still telling her in a kind way that she is just too little and too light to drive that vehicle. Slava Ukraini!! Heroyam Slava!!!!
@Yura Timoshenko Bandera seems to have been an independent Ukrainian revolutionary fighting and resisting both Soviet and Nazi oppression as situations dictated, but Putin is smearing him with being anti-Russian while conveniently leaving out his anti-Nazism.
@Cactus TV he does not strike as me as lover of peace, inspiring belligerence to all even after demise
@Yura Timoshenko what you don't like about Bandera?
@Gerrit Fortuin it’s posted inside the tank lol 5:07
@Yura Timoshenko Still he was kind to her! that is what I said no? And where do you see a picture of Bandera?
Excellent film and insight to how an army really keeps going.
Amazing stuff ! One of the best videos I've seen. Makes you realise what the soldiers have to put up with in their efforts to survive and fight. The reporter is a pleasure to listen to!
If that reporter came to my position it would certainly increase my morale . I hope she stays safe well done to her and the guys she interviewed . Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦❤️🇬🇧
FANTASTIC REPORT kudos to reporter for using every opportunity to tell the story of Ukraines soldiers Incredible in every way.
FYI Re - Female tank crew - It's HEAVY work I hear fixing track requiring removing & putting it back on is the worst job

Turn on the CC caption and its working...
Like real life heroes. They do their job and manage a smile.
Avante povo livre da Ucrânia 🇺🇦 Deus abençoe vocês 🇺🇦 🇧🇷 🇺🇦
All these brave solders a few months back where working at there jobs, having family barbecues together and enjoying life. Now there lives have been flipped into shooting Russians to keep them from killing, raping and pillaging there home land. So sad.

English subtitles please!!!
It has them now (US English rather than English English but it does the job)
You can try using the Show Transcript facility by clicking on the down arrow below and to the right of the picture. Hope this helps.
Use the auto translate feature.
Wow, finally, a look inside! Cool. By the way, just turn on subtitles and choose English. Worked for me! 👍 Totally awesome. I wish so many didn't have to die and be injured and so much destruction wasn't happening. Putin is an insane killer.
True picture of Resilience!
Bravo Ukraine
Excellent channel and reports and filming. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
"If you don't have a spare part, you won't go even if you hop on a horse." How the military repairs self-propelled guns in the field.
Please add an English title and English subtitles. In the United States, 74 million Americans voted for the OrangeClown. Trump wants to ally with Putin. Ukraine must show the courage and imagination of the Ukrainian people.
please add english subtitles
Turn on cc cause English subtitles work fine for me.
You can see the thought bubble over the soldier trying to fix his tank: "she may be cute and 'fragile,' but she asks far too many questions!"
could u add more english subtitles please
@Kopatich Sirius
Only in your dreams. Russian bott.
Keep your tanks going , thumb up to mechanic soldiers !💙💛👍
Always keep some Gorilla tape, bailing wire, and a tube or two of JB-Weld on hand. How is Ukraine ended up with all the beautiful women? Slava Ukraine!
I can remember driving old trucks around the UK in the 70's,Damn the clutch pedal was so heavy I'd have to hold my leg down at the lights or knock it out of gear.Had no power steering...Atkinson Borderer or AEC. I'm a skinny guy and ended up with huge arms lol. When he told that reporter she was too small to drive the gun I understood what he means.
Ah, the bane of all battle commanders, breakdowns in the combat zone. I used to marvel and respect our engineers repairing equipment in the heat of battle or on our way to it.
GOOD! Glory to Ukraine 👏👏🇺🇦👏👏
🙏🙏🙏 Safety great strength and great arms 💪 Brave Defender's of Ukraine ❤️🙏 Saint Michael the Archangel please guide and protect the Civilians medical teams and Soldiers defending Ukraine 🙏❤️
Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦 Eng Subs pleeeaasee. This is the only good news channel
What a charming young reporter, Ksyusha is. 💙💛 Slava Ukrayini.
I think that people of Ukraine are tenacious. They do not have the luxury of having spare parts at their disposal. So they learn how things work and are able to make repairs in the field. These are necessary survival skills in a war like this.
They are all of that and more .
From the USA..give me a socket kit and two types of screwdrivers and stand back..amazing what we see from your videos but believe has to do with life and experiences.. Protect that little girl remember nothing worse than an angry woman in a tank 😁
More weapons from the west coming stay safe our Ukraine Friends 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇺🇸
We can rebuild it we are Ukrainians 🎓
ukrainians are so focused and motivated.they repaired their equipments even right at the battlefield.while the russians are just leaving them behind if there's a problem.being regular hard drinkers are a factor why russia is losing the war. imagine, from defense officials to generals to regular/conscript military men are all vodka drinkers.while putin is an exemption being an occasional drinker himself but having micro-managing the russian military all the time (just like what hitler did to the german army during ww 2)is the major factor why ukraine is winning the war.
The bravest 💪🇺🇦
To victory Ukraine!
This is what being in the army is really like :-) Would have been nice to see what actually broke, and how it was fixed. Sound like maybe just too much dust in the air filters, and either thy had a spare or they can just be bashed/washed out.
@Astro Gremlin After a long time of use, the filter is easy to get stuck in the dirt. The engine can be started by replacing the new filter. After soaking the old filter in the decontamination solvent for 12 hours, it can be used as a spare after washing with water.
I used the CC subtitles. He said dry dust had gotten in the filters and started burning.
The guy said dry-rust, not dust.
You guys would rake in so many views if it had just english subtitles
they have english subtitles. they are just adding them a bit later. as ive experienced in a time of a day
Glory to the Brave People and Army of Ukraine 🇺🇦 God bless you 🙏
what? you need franco or salazar again?? do you lake nazi, right? spain was very fashist, today better??
Keep strong Ukraine
Great video. Really gave a flavour of their work.
tankers are best with small builds like hers! SLAVA UKRAINI !
They are SPG gunners, and she is not a part of the crew. She is PRESS.
Something like 10,000 rounds. See handbook enclosed in your Akatsiya purchase.
Someone send these guys some cordless impacts, sheesh 😂
The tank driver should have answer the girl, “Yes, of course you could drive the tank,” because she just needs some strength training if she is “fragile” by which he meant weak. And we can’t exclude the participation of more volunteers to protect our land.
With the hatches open - do the crew worry about snakes or spiders or other pests or animals falling in to the vehicle while they are driving or fighting in it ? Especially when parked under tree ?
They have bigger problems than critters where they are at. Namely of the 152mm counter-battery variety.
I like these guys. They are like fathers and brothers to the reporter.
Heroim slava 🇺🇦

I love ukraina 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇲🇨🇲🇨
Notice they are using basic wrenches no ratchets and sockets no power tools to help speed up the maintenance work. I think they are doing a great job with what they have but I think these men need better tools and equipment. Slava Ukraine from Canada.
This was an engine intake air filter clog, AS THEY SAID. Design for convenient air filter replacement was poor.
Slava Ukraine military
Nothing like good old fashioned, Klingon Engineering....Slava Ukraine....
THANK SO MUCH TO ALL WHO HELP N PRAY TO UKRAINIAN PEOPLE TO WIN AGAINST THEIR EVIL ENEMIES ...👏👏👏👏
What can you say after that? Brilliant is the only word that comes to mind :)
The 2S3 AKATSIYA 152. 2 mm howitzer a Soviet are Self Propelled Artillery Piece was replaced by the 2S19 MSTA - U 152.2 mm howitzer Self Propelled Artillery Piece also a Soviet era to . The 2S3 AKATSIYA 152. 2 mm Howitzer Self Propelled Artillery piece have seen action in Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989 .
difficult for anyone to drive a Russian made tank that requires a sledge hammer to change gears western made tanks totally different so if your female drive european korean or american tanks
Solders comments , Heavy clutch and brake pedals. Must be not to different then T-34-85
That’s Soviet equipment from 1980 to 1986. Soviet/Russian equipment designers were
not thinking about ease of operation of such machines.
Glory to the heros of Ukraine!
Glory to Ukraine !!!
I wanted too write so much about this video, but I stopped myself.
The resilience shown in this video is why Ukraine will prevail over Russia.
I cannot tell the story a different way.
Slava Ukraine!!
Im betting the old man driving can tell some stories. These folks know why they fight so hard. Thank God for the leadership team in Ukraine. Brilliance.
The equipment that can’t be repaired will be used for parts.
One time I was new in a field work and arrived to the crew a beautiful woman, a driver of heavy equipment. I noticed that nobody was really messing with her so I asked the guys what was going on and one said that rumors were that for some reason she killed her husband. Respect is respect.
@Marja van der Marel So is normal respect. See Occam's Razor. Apply it in your thoughts.
Ooohhh that,so a good reason to back off.
I love you ukine ❤💛💙🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦💪💪💪
Stay safe brave fighters and brave reporter girl. Victory will be yours.
Right on Ukraine👍
