Idk how did I became so obsessed with both DnB and Dubstep, but I can say is that everything statrted when I first listened to old school Dubstep from UKF 2010s mix thanks to my father and from there I later discovered DnB Jungle tracks in my teenage which is my second favorite music genre. Damn I wish I could learn how to produce both DnB and Dubstep once in my life, but overall I like them all DnB subgenres with different characteristics especially with Jungle for being unique which is crazy since the evolution of DnB but that Minimal subgenre for me is🔥🔥🔥🔥10:52

The Line between neurofunk and minimal is really really thin imo. I always considered it a sound evolution of neurofunk Btw neuro and liquid are, and will always be, the best subgenres by far Can’t wait to see part 2 and don’t forget the epic CROSSBREED 😍

@@STRANJAH it’s a sub-genre. Not very well known, but it has its recognizable niche. Some crossbreed artists: Hallucinator Sinister souls Gancher & ruin Etc It’s a dnb/ hardcore fusion Yep it’s similar to skullstep but more close to dnb
Obviously being an old head I would have liked Tribal (Deep)& Drumfunk additions and no Calibre when talking about Liquid Funk? Nice one for the breakdown and Rollers is definitely a sub genre 🌻
I got into techno in the late 80's and slowly embraced Jungle as my favorite genre. From my perspective, in the DC area, I always felt like Jungle was the catch all term and Drum and Bass came along later, with artists like LTJ Bukem, Goldie and local hero Method One. People were kinda snobby about saying things like "jungle/jump up is just party music, I ONLY listen to Intelligent Drum and Bass". For me, coming from heavy industrial and punk in the 80's through the bombastic Detroit, Berlin and Rotterdam styles, I was naturally more drawn to the ridiculously heavy and bouncy tracks. I love T. Power and ShyFX to this day. Funny how language changes, and how it's probably a totally different story elsewhere.
I will die on this hill. There is a noticeable difference between liquid funk and liquid. There is an over abundance of liquid and there is very little liquid funk going around. Tons of liquid. Not that much funk though. Most of the liquid that is being put out is some very EMO sounding shit.
Neuro is rather misunderstood prolly because of the rough/piercing sound. Most ppl tend to dislike it due to the enormous amount of energy that exudes.Often associating it with some sort of metal rock lol . Good for kicking up a party. BSE rocks! and all the other great Neuro artists. Noisia, Teddy Killers, Mefjus etc. Surprised you didn't feature MBeat with the all time classic "Incredible" That's a jungle track that anyone can recognize LOL Good job educating on the DnB subgenres. I still think is such a underestimated genre who gets so little coverage..At least in N America. Cheers!! 🎊
Sadly no microfunk, no drumfunk, darkside, halfstep, jungle-techno, hardcore, hybrid trappy-jungliy dnb (DJ Madd), no hypnotic australian trance-like sound, no footwork jungle sound like A.Fruit does, or DJ Madd, Om Unit (or Philip D Kick), Arcane, Sun People also. Or the sound between electro/electrofunk and jungle/dnb (Detroit's Filthiest). Please speak more about music like this!
Tbf a lot of those genres are not so much sub genres of drum & bass but more close cousins of them and or stuff that came just before it was properly defined.
Jungle techno was the old name for the music so it would not be a sub genre. Hardcore came before jungle so it would not be a sub genre of drum and bass since drum and bass came from jungle and jungle came from hardcore…liquid funk would be a sub genre or spin off of dnb. And some of the tracks you specifically called 'rollers' had a less prominent percussion roll than other track that you didn't. Also what is a 'rolling bass' compared to a non-rolling bass?
Great questions. I’ll address them in a video sometime. The terms are loosely defined. I go by vibe
Thanks for doing this. It really helps. Liquid has always been my fav.
You should include 4x4 dnb in the next one. It's becoming pretty prevalent and I think more people should enjoy the weird techno, hardcore, dnb chaos that is 4x4.
Heavy neuro for life. But you did forget another favourite of mine: skullstep.
You should have mentioned that early on, jump up was known as clown step :)
Current Value is that Skullstep...what about Donny?
@@STRANJAH Yes, early Current Value would quality. Many of Dony's tracks as well. But the king of skullstep is Limewax. If you want examples, I'd maybe go for Limewax Scream War, CV Therapist and Donny 3 Day Binge
Its crazy that Loxy created his own subgenre. Same with Tech Itch and Dylan
SUBSCRIBED !
I got into Drum and Bass in the 2000`s thanks to a really great movie called Human Traffic ("Any new jungle in guy ? ") and because of the Fifa Street 2 Soundtrack
I`ll just leave some songs here enjoy:
Aphrodite - Stalker
Roni Size - Bite the bullet
Shy FX - Rock The Boat
Drumsound & Simon Bassline Smith - The Odyssey (Grooverider VIP)
DJ Marky & Bungle - No time to love
State of Mind - Sun King
Chivalry - Version
Waypoint - You're Not Alone (feat. A Little Sound)
Metrik - Gravity
Kings Of The City - Wrong (Muzzy Remix)
Visionary - Soundboy Burial (Benny Page Remix)
SEMARGL - Credo Revolution (Zardonic Remix) (A quite interesting mix of DnB and Metal I guess ? )
Wilkinson - Half Light ft. Tom Cane (Most probably my favorite song)
Also here is a joker track that aint DnB but it came from the golden era of Dubstep : SKisM - Rave Review (incredible build-up and some of the most sick drops)
Jungle is Massive !
Together might just be my all time fave dnb track
Also, can't forget Drumfunk! Paradox, Inperspective Records, Scientific Wax, Equinox, Pinecone Moonshine, etc
Idk how did I became so obsessed with both DnB and Dubstep, but I can say is that everything statrted when I first listened to old school Dubstep from UKF 2010s mix thanks to my father and from there I later discovered DnB Jungle tracks in my teenage which is my second favorite music genre. Damn I wish I could learn how to produce both DnB and Dubstep once in my life, but overall I like them all DnB subgenres with different characteristics especially with Jungle for being unique which is crazy since the evolution of DnB but that Minimal subgenre for me is🔥🔥🔥🔥10:52
Every subgenre has its own feel, its why listed the emotions associated. but I'm glad you're open to different styles.. minimal is really good and overlooked
Ragga jungle, drumfunk, the sound of Metalheads, the sound of Bristol, Microfunk, Halfstep.
Nice video idea !!💚
8:22 What breakbeats use in here?
bro the timing of this video is crazy. I was just thinking. what if I made plug beats but made it dnb. and I thot. I'm sure edm has named a subgenre for it already lol. and boom this shit pops up 😅
Pt2. Must include ragga! Ed solo, deekline, serial killaz, shy-fx, benny page etc.
Thx for the knowledge bro.
Dancefloor drum and bass but with more happy hardcore leads and electric guitars. Kinda like Metrik, or Pendulum. That's what I go for.
Love all tihe subgenres!
Fade II Black never fails. All-timer.
Love liquid dnb. I like to mix up all styles of dnb. If I like the tune it gets played. Simples
The Line between neurofunk and minimal is really really thin imo. I always considered it a sound evolution of neurofunk
Btw neuro and liquid are, and will always be, the best subgenres by far
Can’t wait to see part 2 and don’t forget the epic CROSSBREED 😍
What is crossbreed lol
I checked a playlist and it’s like a derivative of neuro but with kicks on the 1 and 3? Also has swing on the drums? Sounds like it has some commonalities with skullstep?
@@STRANJAH it’s a sub-genre. Not very well known, but it has its recognizable niche.
Some crossbreed artists:
Hallucinator
Sinister souls
Gancher & ruin
Etc
It’s a dnb/ hardcore fusion
Yep it’s similar to skullstep but more close to dnb
Such a good video 🎉 happy l8 bday
Thank you!
Monrroe is the don of liquid drum and bass currently his production is flawless
My favorite edm channel sick video
Obviously being an old head I would have liked Tribal (Deep)& Drumfunk additions and no Calibre when talking about Liquid Funk?
Nice one for the breakdown and Rollers is definitely a sub genre 🌻
How inmiss rhe bass from the jump up d$b... anyways stranjah$ by your music i assumed more feeling from U😂
Big ups, great vid
It's funny people are still saying "jungle/jump up is just party music" except about the newer stuff
You should add autonomic
I will die on this hill. There is a noticeable difference between liquid funk and liquid. There is an over abundance of liquid and there is very little liquid funk going around. Tons of liquid. Not that much funk though. Most of the liquid that is being put out is some very EMO sounding shit.
Fabio came up with the Liquid funk name and brought out two mix albums 'Fabio presents liquid funk' on his then top label creative source
RIP Marcus! He's was the king of Liquid Funk imo.
That minimal at like 2am when the mdma is peaking is the reason i was born.
Cheers!! 🎊
What's the song in the background at 10:54? I've always likeed that 1 2 kick.
Shout out from Bandung xo
Sadly no microfunk, no drumfunk, darkside, halfstep, jungle-techno, hardcore, hybrid trappy-jungliy dnb (DJ Madd), no hypnotic australian trance-like sound, no footwork jungle sound like A.Fruit does, or DJ Madd, Om Unit (or Philip D Kick), Arcane, Sun People also. Or the sound between electro/electrofunk and jungle/dnb (Detroit's Filthiest). Please speak more about music like this!
this guy knows his hardcore continuum
Tbf a lot of those genres are not so much sub genres of drum & bass but more close cousins of them and or stuff that came just before it was properly defined.
Jungle techno was the old name for the music so it would not be a sub genre. Hardcore came before jungle so it would not be a sub genre of drum and bass since drum and bass came from jungle and jungle came from hardcore…liquid funk would be a sub genre or spin off of dnb. Tech step. Neurofunk. Hip step. Those are sub genres.
Dude. You’re just naming shit without understanding the context. Jungle could never be a sub genre of dnb since dnb came from jungle…
@@aarons2632 i don't think they were saying that jungle came from dnb, that would b ridiculous, they were just saying there's more to it than the surface level genre naming in this video...
What about halftime and all its sub-subgenres?
Me: yo what music you want me to dj? Host: DNB! me:... 200 bpm break core it is then
RIP MARCUS INTALEX
well done, i love this :)
