Very detailed video on the living expenses. I’ve been telling people, for YEARS, to leave the matrix and explore other options. The key is to live where “everybody else” isn’t. When I see these videos, it’s always Pattaya, Chiangmai, and Bangkok, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But, there is so much more to Thailand. The key is finding your spot.
Great point! It's like Moving to Atlanta in the U.S. when everyone else is b/c it's the place to be. I'm looking into Rayong as its supposed to be an up and coming area.
Port your US number to google voice for a one time cost of $20 when you visit the US again in order to keep the number. Phone has to be unlocked and port has to be done in the US on the day you're leaving to go back overseas. Then reroute it to Skype number and plan. You'll have one phone bill and one payment a year for US calls. Just make sure you keep the Google Voice line active by calls and text.
It's good to hear a logical budget plan I could handle for the basics. I lived in Thailand between 2005-2009. Pattaya and Chiang Mai. September 2024, I begin my Asian home search again. I think this time, I am leaning towards Chiang Rai, Hua Hin, and Jomtien. I've lived in Mexico now for 2 years on the Caribbean. Cancun is a great, cheap hub if you roam like I do. I'll watch for more content
Few notes: On your insurance, make certain you are on the actual health insurance and not the travel insurance. Travel insurance is pretty much BS and worst case they will send you back to the US to get treated in case something serious. On your US Phone service, toss it. There are plenty of ways to get US phone numbers for cheap, and perhaps even free. I use a few of them (I'm living Tokyo, but will visit where youre at soon).

Safety wing is $45 only if you are 39 or younger. Its $73 from 40 to 49, $115 from 50 to 59, and $157 from 60 to 69. They don’t cover cancer and you have to pay the hospital first and then submit for reimbursement (they don’t deal directly with the hospital).
