Great Advice - stay minimum 3mo wherever you are planning on moving permanently. Even just 4-6 weeks can be a honeymoon period where your eyes are glossed over of what daily life would be like.

You need at least twelve months to get past the honeymoon period then comes the rose coloured glasses syndrome where everything is fairy dairy land cute little bunny rabbits and a few months later comes the big kahuna of reality of life in Thailand bites in and most farangs after a few years up to five years providing they're still alive usually hit the great big brick wall of actuality and reality .

Thank you Trevor as always. Yes. Totally agree with your words. I think Pattaya is very intense in the centre and like you say, very intense if you come to live that way. It’s so important to find balance. Survival and more importantly establishing yourself in Pattaya revolves around finding a good routine and a quiet area to allow life to be established.

I can cook reasonably well, but 120 THB for a thai meal twice-a-day, plus a daily coffee, is far too tempting. I will be asking for less or no sugar in my thai food, though.

Trev, what you often dont mention in these "how much" videos, is that many expats (most that i hangout with) BUY a condo, car, bike etc. We dont have most of these expenses you talk about.
Also, a lot of guys marry normal thai girls, so not renting a partner.
I bought a 1M baht condo and a car 11 years ago, its paid for itself 2-3 times over. I literally live on 30-40k a month, drink, company, eat well.

It is hard to beat $3-4 usd for a bolt ride a couple times a week. Can't beat the baht bus for ~ 35c usd a pop. No buying a car. No paying for gas, insurance or maintenance. Let someone else do the driving. Tip them modestly when you can. From Jomtien, my monthly TOTAL travel costs are less than $40/month EVERY month. That includes probably 7-8 bolt car rides & 7-10 baht bus rides per month - mostly into Pattaya to the malls, beach & party Sois - so it's not just short rides. My insurance ALONE in the States was $100+ as was gas. Money in your pocket, guys!
But - THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TREV SAID - *have something to do that you will not be bored with!* If you don't, then you will day drink and piss money away day and night. Whether it is read, exercise - hell, play solitaire - whatever it takes to pass the time. Then your money is still in your pocket when you want to hit Soi 6, buy some new clothes or accessories or treat yourself to the occasional gratuitous meal.
And when it comes to 'company,' try as I might, I have yet to even approach a 3,000 baht tab, all tips & drinks included. Good for an hour straight up and about another hour after. Money well spent. Stay COMPLETELY away from go-go bars!

I would say $1200 to $1500 US dollar per month is comfortable unless you want to drink. Probably about $2000 a month for a couple, again, unless you are drinkers. This includes rent, utilities, transport, insurance miscellaneous etc...Add at least 10% to this right now because of the strong baht and weakened dollar. Bangkok add about another 10 to 15% to this

Hey Trev,, Always a pleasure,, with Bolt, you can chat with the driver in most any language and it is automatically translated. For example, as soon as they have accepted a fare, I txt them and say I am at the Big C Extra maiin entrance wearing a yellow hat. That really helps them find you. Often they are given maps that are a little off. Also, with the Bolt app sometimes the app tries to make you select taxi because it is the only option presented and you don't get the drop down list of options. Back out of it and resubmit and then the drop down list comes up with all the choices.
Can you recommend a good bicycle shop?
    thanks again Trev

Try 3months first, work out your month holiday budget, you not so partying month and find somewhere in between will be your approx monthly cost allowing to still go out and party a couple days a week if you wish... £2k/$3k would be a good amount per month income as a minimum...

Wife's neice's husband from Boston was living up in Nong Bong Lamphu, very cheap, but he said it is probably best for most expats to stick around places like Pattaya or Bangkok due to the convenience. Spent a month up in Yosothon and wife's expenses there was very low by US standards. House (small 2 bedroom) payment was $120 US/month and I paid $50 US for groceries for 2 weeks. Power there was about $12 US a month. So up north it is much cheaper, but definitely does not cater to westerners. Thai style homes are a bit different from what I am used to, but depending on your tastes, it might be doable. Transport was for me the biggest issue as I am very uncomfortable on the back of the wife's moped! I think one could do it on $3000 US a month very comfortably!

I think for basic living you could live on about 30k a month but you'd have no life. When I was living in bang saray, I was spending around 100-110k a month which incorporated a long time and 3 or 4 short times. If you added bar tabs too the girl action my guess I was spending 50% of my income on living and 50% on night activities.
Believe it or not now having moved to Hua Hin sponsoring only the 1 girl, I'm now spending around 80-90k a month. I'm saving money but far out it's tough only releasing the dragon on 1 treasure. Been faithful over 3 months now and it's getting tough. Maybe try find a freelancer for some sneaky side action a week. Going to be hard to manage though

"Family visits". My brother is coming over at the end of the month. He paid for his flights I pay for all hotels. I would never without good reason go back to the UK so my contribution is the hotel costs. That gives as peace to spend as we like worry free day and night touring around with all admin settled.
Im doing exactly as you've mentioned, budget for western food and high end Thai food. 140 - 200 per meal. When the novelty wears off and the snacks kick in the savings will build up. The 7/11 mom and pop beers on the balcony, the walk around and beaches likewise add up to the savings all the better for markets, activities and nightlife.
A typical scenario is land, dump the bags and straight into the first bar, lady drinks with new heavenly friends, back to the room showered and changed, pub crawl dropping off lady drinks all the way to a nightclub.
Morning, seen nothing not even the room, skint, off to ATM and the nearest bar same again. 555😂. All done years ago. I have to put the effort in and let my brother sample the newbie way.

You have to budget wherever you live in the world, Pattaya is just far cheaper- £1000 is probably equivalent to £1500 or more in the UK. If you are sensible you should be to live considerably cheaper in Thailand- even with your visa and healthcare, just do your sums

just back from Pattaya 4 days ago... average most ladies are asking for 1500 for St and then for LT ( who the hell wants LT only fools and Chinese-Koreans) prices go from 2500 to 4000.
why would I spend 4000 for LT when most of the time the girl would be asleep, Am I paying her 4000 for sleeping... the hell with that... 4000 give you 2ST with 2 different girls, no brainer.
And just a little tip...if you treat the lady good and you behave she must even give you your fun for free or the typical "up to you"
