Just found out they wrote the song based on a personal tragedy.
It is their most beautiful song ❤ always been my favourite
Tony's voice is amazing
Oh look....proper musicians
I hear u
Sam Hollingsworth!
Not my fav 80's band but I get your drift dude ;-)
Is that why, the guitars not in tune, he can’t play it?
@HighHopesBass good point HHB
great session...saw Tony 2000 with Alan Parsons in Berlin...tony can sing! Thx for ur Songs and the memories....
Tony Hadley has such a great voice.
Absolutely fantastic performance. Class is permanent.
I loved this song when I was young. I loved it even more when I realised what it was about. It captures (and quotes) the spirit of Yeats:
I write it out in a verse --
MacDonagh and MacBride
And Connolly and Pearse
Now and in time to be,
Wherever green is worn,
Are changed, changed utterly:
A terrible beauty is born
Como siempre tony
Easily they're best song x
Brings a tear to my eye. What a song. What a decade the 80's was. Real musicians playing great music.
I still think Tony Hadley is one of the best singers ever born. Even now!
Freddie Mercury used to like his voice. There must be a reason, I guess.
Sept 2020, it's still a fact.
Antonio Sedda He even has been on stage with Freddy
@@j.schermer3523 in australia i think?
@@cheryldavison9759 New Zealand. Spandau was touring in Australia. Tony flew over to New Zealand to see Queen.
This live performance, of this legendary song, is just astonishing.
Tony still has that signature voice, and can still hit this high notes decades after the song was first released.
Gary is also outstanding on the guitar, such a difficult and melodic piece of music to play.
Total respect to the two artists that have stood the test of time.
I salute you.
✊👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
Face got older, but his voice doesn't change. Great singer of all time.
*older and more handsome.
R.I.P. Thomas Reilly ( Kidso ) Killed august 9th 1983. shot dead by a British soldier. he worked for the band selling merchandise during their TRUE tour. he went back home after and was killed. Years later his brother Jim took Kemp to his gravesite along the falls road. This tune was born out of that experience.
why was he shot
@@kevinjoseph517some would say he was on the wrong side of the barricade…..for us that lived through those times all lives lost were very sad.
That was incredible. Brought a tear to my eye. Superb guitar playing and the very strong voice of Tony. And so close to the original record. Amazing.
Gary Kemp genius songwriter!
Beautiful ... my favourite Spandau Ballet song, still give me goosebumps now almost 30 years on

Masterpiece from Spandau ... ❤
Great Hadley.
Songs like this are the best. You can see it means a lot to both of them, you can hear it in their performance, you can feel it in the air. Fantastic.
Absolutely!!! They perform /sing from their hearts...
As good as it can get.
You put it perfectly my friend.

This song is great and Tonys voice as strong as ever
This is beautiful so stripped back. Lately, this song makes me cry - very emotional sentiment and lyrics. Thank you for the amazing music and sound Spandau Ballet x
So beautiful...like fine wine they only get better with age...they have and always will be such an elegant group. Thank You for your grace, elegance, and classy style of music Spandau Ballet. GOD BLESS YOU ALL🙏🕇📿👣🤗 If you keep performing we'll keep listening 👂🎼👏
I love this song...
Amazing track by spandau ballet it brings back so many good memories this was the time when music was music 🎶
Wawww... he still got that powerful voice... and what a song... classic!
So nice to see these two sorting their differences and producing a performance like that. Breathtaking !!!!
it dont get better than live stuff,,, how many can do this now
Reminds me of my times on the checkpoints in Londonderry in 1974..............Sorry to say, it makes me cry. (I am 62)
Heartfelt post Paul' Londonderry has moved on from it's troubled past' great city 'great people
You're not alone. Cry toghether I'm 50
Makes us all cry Honey!!!
Shanellie7 Now it seems its back judging by the recent troubles
Love this song since it was released, never realising that it was about a relationship across the divide
Tony is a superb singer up there with george micheal x
I’ve just witnessed pure magic.........tony Hadley did “though the barricades” 35 years ago....
Wow just wow !!
Love this , just a voice .. No auto tune etc ... Golden notes to cheers your heart .. thank you x
Pure raw music.....they dont make music like this anymore... :(
Mostly TRASH !
Tony god speed. Keep on rocking through the barricades. The 80s were amazing. Its our responsability to show how things are made, or better were made in those beutifull years. Tony show them kids what singing is. Because today everything is a shambles. 2:49
Gary you should of kept the most talented person in your band. YES TONY HADLEY
Wonderful performance from both of them!
I wish these guys could settle their differences (again). Individually they are awesome but together they are another level.
In my opinion Tony has gotten better, I have seen him many times and when he sings this it blows me away....
This is a classy performance. No doubt. I love this song dearly. However, it's clear that Tony does not have the range that he had when the single was released in '86. He has definitely lost some vocal range in the intervening 35 years. For anyone who disagrees. Don't kid yourselves. It's daft to think it is possible for him to sing it the same as he did back then. Time takes it's toll on us all. However, he still sounds magical. Just different. Loving Gary's 'special chord' too.
Thought they were posing wankers back in the day but now I'm all growed up I can't deny what an amazing voice he's got 👍it's a great song too
Tony Hadley is the Best violist. It's a privilege hear him sing. There aren't too many men or women who has such rich tones. He is very handsome also. Tina Hardman
Still stunning
Ohh! Beautiful I will love them ❤❤❤❤❤ FOREVER❤
Tony has the best voice in show business and is one of the loveliest blokes you could meet too. Gary on the other hand..
Timeless
This is how is should always have sounded. Brilliant.
Real musicians. Had the pleasure of working with TH years ago.Puts this contrived x factor generation to utter shame.
Saw Tony at the Sage, Gateshead...........AWESOME.
Goose bumps ! Anybody else get goose bumps after that??
I am!
Yes. And a tear.
A little sad watching today knowing the extent of the bad feeling between the two of them.
Tony gives Gary a hard time for fucking up the guitar parts :) Still a great performance.
Their best song ever, this performance simply sublime xxx
Probably in my top 3 favourite songs of all time
Please listen in Northern Ireland…I am from Antrim….I live in a beautiful town...with beautiful people...I have had enough...what are we fighting for....REALLY.....after all these years!
Wonderfull amazing guys!! I love Tony, i love Gary i love spandau Ballet & years 80 forever!!!💖💞💕🎤👏👏👏👏👏
Fantastic beautiful....this performance is more confiance....more simple.....2 friends.together...1 guitar....you can feel the inside soul of both.....more deep and direct ...I love Tony I love them❤❤❤❤❤🌈🌈🌈🌈
I've been wat hing this for years,,,,,,, it just get better and better, awesome
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. This is Tony's favourite song brilliantly sung
Wow just WOW. That song and his voice will ensure I NEVER forget the futility of things that seemed worth shedding blood for at the time.25-30 yrs on, not much has REALLY changed, but things are not worse, the propensity is good.
This song makes me remember the heart of the struggle, and the passions of youth.
Well said
its not a struggle, its all about trying to forgive and forget,i try every day i wake up to do both, unfortunately after over 20 years i cant and sadly dont really think i ever will
KLM no
An oldie now but this is still a beautiful song. Humbles me every time. Thanks Gary & Tony
In a few hundred years, when we have all left this earth, people will find this music and say "The composers back then were amazing". Can you imagine having Mozart, Lennon and Macca, Strauss, U2, Led Zep, Beethoven, Stevie Wonder, Chopin, AC/DC and these guys, and all the many greats I haven't mentioned (SRV, Gary Moore, Clapton, Knopfler, Hendrix, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Oscar Peterson, Buddy Rich) I could go on for a while yet, but I guess you get the idea????????? All this music, and more will be what they will call "The Old Stuff", I would love to be there when they decide which one they prefer?
brilliant version, they can do no wrong in my eyes.
Just brilliant
What amazing talent from the 80's. Simply superb and Tony's voice is still magic, I'm sure Martin wrote these songs for his voice. Just amazing
TheNorthernmunky Ummm...Gary writes the songs. Martin is pretty much just eye candy. Love the guy but the real talent here is Gary, Tony and Steve.
+feroniasoleil They were all eye candy
+feroniasoleil Martin did some good bass solos! Especially in their earlier albums
can't help compare him to John Taylor though...boss of bass!
@@mikekaraoke I agree
Two very great performers. Wonderful
ich liebe diese stimme!!!!!!!!!!!könte dieses lied stundenlang hören............
Gary watches Tony sing with wonder and pride, it's too bad Gary treated him like garbage, he wouldn't have quit.
Gary, as a brilliant accompanist MUST watch the singer.
@@edwardshirley9314 He doesn't do it all the time and if he is so brilliant he wouldn't have cocked up a note that he wrote and been playing for decades.
@@edwardshirley9314 This was one of those rare moments in which Gary realized they had a brilliant singer. He may even have been a little bit grateful towards Tony for making a few of his songs real classics. Stupid of him to spoil the party once again. Mr Kemp started the band and destroyed it with his own actions.
Nice to see one of the Krays playing guitar 😁
Im searching this because i couldnt imagine him singing ( im a celeb) 😂
same 😂😂
Glad im not the only one 😂😂😂
+Lauren Wilkinson What you mean you couldn't imagine him singing?
^ yes
Lauren Wilkinson I got what you mean't, But I mean't WHHAAATTT why couldn't you imagine him singing??
Surly your mum and dad listened to Spandau Ballet back in the day and must know the songs they still play on radio till this day
Had the pleasure of watching this true gentleman perform in Sanski Most, Bosnia on the Millenium tour, unreal vocal performance. Then he served behind the bar, cracking bloke!
Me encantan sus canciones ... siempre sale al escenario muy impecable , buen vestir , muy bien presentable .grande , grande . Gracias por sus canciones muy hermosas 😊😍

Such a strong voice that never waivers
The bum note by Gary just makes me love this video more, I just love Tony Hadleys voice . Through the barricades is my favourite song of all time ❤
Well, at least I would say he has got a better voice over the years. OH GOD
so so perfect , wonderful vocie .. GOLDEN VOICE X
I don't know how they did put this together. There are a lot of grudges between them. I can see every movement of Gary Kemp express it particulary on end of the song.
I love this song 😢
Through the Barricades, was inspired by events that took place in Northern Ireland.
"We had a guy called 'Kidso' (Thomas Reilly), who worked for us on merchandise during the True tour," Gary explains. "He went back to Belfast after the tour and was killed. (A soldier, Private Ian Thain, was convicted of murder after a lengthy trial).
"Kidso's brother, Jim, who played drums for Stiff Little Fingers, subsequently took me along to see his grave and the song was inspired by walking down the Falls Road. I got to experience some of the emotion of that first-hand and it just stuck with me…….Gary Kemp
This voice, this guitar, this song. The message lasts forever. Absolute amazing!
Tony Hadley , Be still my beating heart , Absolutely amazing voice ,
