      Congrats on your (hopeful) upcoming PCX150 purchase! The 2013 PCX150 differs from the 2015+ models in several key areas. First and foremost is the smaller fuel tank: 1.5 gallons in the 2013 vs. 2.1 gallons in the 2015+ models. The instrument cluster is different (mostly analog instead of digital), and the turn signals aren't integrated into the bodywork.
      The 2013 model has a "taller" final drive ratio that lends to higher top speeds without needing a variator upgrade. The 2015+ models are rev-limited at 62-63 mph, where the 2013 model reportedly reaches 67-69 mph before hitting the rev-limiter. There are other minor differences throughut, but they are nearly identical under the skin. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Back road trips are the best option for touring and travel. I always try to skip the major highways and interstates if I can. The rural roads let me soak in the scenery instead of rushing through it to my destination. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      I got an ncy kit in my 2015 pcx 150. I like it. I use my scooter for summer commuting to work 15 miles one way. I have had no issues with mine so far. Before it my pcx topped out at 62mph and struggled to maintain 55mph on some highway hills some times dropping all the way down to 50. Now it tops out at 65mph and maintains 60 mph no problem (300lbs rider). I do use the more expensive polini I think is the brand Kevlar reenforced belt. I just put a new belt in it at the start of each season.

      I had technical difficulties on Day 3. My Zoom F1 audio recorder was turned on, but it stopped recording in the bag for unknown reasons (probably forgot to lock the buttons).
      Eventually, I'm hoping to build an audio mixer/attenuator cable that feeds both audio streams (my microphone and the Cardo's audio output) into the GoPro for simplified recording. That way I'll have a single file to edit (no audio merging or ducking in post editing), and everything will be naturally coherent. If I'm recording video, then all of the matching audio will be there. 😉👍 --QM

    Can you tell us about the one wheel trailer and hitch for pcx 150 2022? I am a disabled veteran and need a trailer and hitch for my new Honda Pcx 150 2022. Where can I order them?. The trailer that I pull behind my Super Cub and CT125 is the KipMoto SherpaX adventure trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . KipMoto made a custom hitch for my Super Cub (also fit the CT125), so I'm not sure if that is a "production" item or not. I spoke to him a few months ago about building a custom hitch for the PCX150, and he said that he could probably handle that job for me.
      The hitch for the PCX150 might also work on the new PCX160 and ADV150. I need to take detailed measurements of all three variations of those scooters to see if we might be able to settle on a design that works for all of them. If the widths are different, then sSpacers might be needed to fit the narrower models. We'll see how it turns out... I'll be sure to post updates when that happens! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Howdy, Josh, and thanks for the feedback! The gauge data is an overlay that I generate using a third-party program called Telemetry Extractor:
      goprotelemetryextractor.com/ .
      The telemetry for the HUD is recorded by my GoPro Hero7 or Hero11 camera and my Garmin Zumo GPS (when I'm riding with it). Telemetry Extractor combines the data from multiple sources to generate the gauge overlays. Everything is stitched together in Adobe Premiere Pro to create the final videos. It's a lot of extra work to create the overlays, but I think the end results are worth the effort. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      That's the KipMoto SherpaX trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . They are designed for off-road adventure motorcycles, but they work flawlessly for on-road touring adventures. I’m no particular hurry and will never ride off-road but having had LARGE bikes I’m afraid I’d beat a PCX to death with the throttle pinned all the time!
    Planning on 400-500 mile tours, solo, much like you do but would consider camping in the South spring/fall.
    Would a 500X be a better bike?
    PS: worried about vibration and seat comfort as I have a bony ass! Lemme know, new subscriber.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Рік тому

      Howdy, T, and thanks for watching! The PCX is a surprisingly capable scooter, but it's not really designed for long-distance touring. I tend to push my machines far outside of their design envelope and force crazy trips and tasks upon them. The PCX engines are built like tanks and will take a ton of abuse, so running them at near WOT doesn't seem to bother them at all. I'll be flogging this one for 8K+ miles on the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run this June.
      If you're planning on riding mostly on well-paved rural highways, then the PCX will do very well as long as your expectations are in line with its capabilities (e.g., 55-60 MPH as the cruising sweet spot, paved roads only, moderate to low traffic density). If you need mild off-road capabilities, then the Honda ADV150 is a better choice with its improved suspension, wider tires, and more stretched out ergonomics.
      However, if you intend to travel farther or faster than rural highways and side roads, then the CB500X is a MUCH more suitable and capable machine. I can jump on my CB500X and do a cross-country ride at the drop of a hat... no problem. It can tackle 80+ MPH freeways all day long and, when ridden conservatively, it can crush 300 miles per tank of fuel. Good luck shopping, and I hope you find a good fit! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      We haven't completed that trailer project yet, but we're hopeful! We have the KipMoto SherpaX trailers ( kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax ) that we pulled behind our Honda Super Cubs during the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run.
      I reached out to KipMoto to see if he can build custom a trailer hoop/hitch to fit the PCX150. If he is able to make that for us, then we'll pull these trailers for the 2023 Scooter Cannonball as well. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 роки тому +1

      Howdy, Thomas, and thanks for watching! That's a common question, and it's difficult to answer because all of my bikes serve different riding chores and moods. If I had to choose only two bikes that I have in my stable as my favorites, then they would be the 2019 Honda Super Cub and the 2014 Honda CB500X.
      The Super Cub is a fantastic run around tool with amazing economy... and the nostalgia factor is off the charts. I tend to take my small bikes for any ride whenever I have a chance or if I can make the excuse over riding a larger bike. The Cub's top speed of ~65 MPH means that it can mix with faster traffic on rural highways, but it's more comfortable (and more efficient) speed is around 50-55 MPH. Adrian and I toured our Super Cubs nearly 10K miles around the USA last year for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run. We rode that trip while pulling 80-lb trailers behind our Super Cubs, and we didn't experience a single mechanical failure from the Cubs or the trailers. That's amazing durability and reliability!
      The CB500X is a Jack of all trades that can tackle the monotonous daily commute, ride in the pouring rain, or tour across the country at the drop of a hat. Its upright ergonomics and plush seat are comfortable for 10+ hours/day of riding, it can carve corners nearly as well as a sports bike, and it can return 65 MPG economy at a steady 70 MPH all day long. If I had to sell all of my bikes and only have one remaining, the CB500X would be the one. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard That was a very good answer, tks for the response,, 1 other question is : what is your honest opinion on the ownership of the Ryker,,,would you purchase another one? HAGD ride safe

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 роки тому

      @@thomasdausch8557 My Ryker ownership experience has been somewhat disappointing because of the constant alignment and suspension issues. My 2019 Ryker Rally was a first edition model, so I realized that there might be problems or glitches to reconcile... I just didn't expect those problems to be so persistent and unresolveable. My Ryker's issues have NOT been covered under warranty, and all of the re-alignments due to factory defects have all been paid out of my pocket. Can-Am has reportedly resolved many of those issues with newer Rykers, so new owners shouldn't experience the same problems that I have.
      If I could do it over again, I would purcahsed the Ryker 900 ACE (not Rally) and spend the extra money for upgraded suspension and other touring accessories. The non-Rally models ride/drive better than the Rally, but I've never found the exact reason why. The Rally edition supposedly has stiffer suspension, a beefed-up undercarriage, and more cross-bracing to make the chassis stiffer. It's possible that the extra stiffening and the slightly increased ride height make the Rally handle WORSE and not track a straight line as well as the non-Rally models.
      However, due to poor interaction and warranty resolution with Can-Am, I don't think that I would purchase another road-legal product from Can-Am. I have never received any service or recall notices from Can-Am in the mail. I only found out about pending safety recalls on my Ryker when I returned to the dealer for routine maintenance. That's inexcusable in my opinion, and it could be potentially lethal for a motorcyclist. I've also owned several of Sea-Doo/BRP watercraft that had similar reliability and warranty issues, so that makes me less likely to purchase their products in the future. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      We don't usually cook on these types of road trips because we're still in the middle of civilization. The extra pack size and weight of carrying a kitchen kit and food is more of a burden than it's worth.
      However, we still carry small cook kits with us in case we decide to go out in the boonies or if we want to make breakfast in the morning. I take a JetBoil or other iso-propane stove with me to boil water for coffee and oatmeal. The funny thing about this trip is that all of us brought full cook kits, but none of us even unpacked them from the scoots! 🤣
      Neil and I like to do camp cooking when we're away from civilization. I'm more of a breakfast cook, and Neil likes to grill steaks and other heavier meals. He even carries a cast iron pan with him on his trailer! 😉👍

      Those are "Neil pegs'... custom made by Neil for his SMAX. He's a fabricator and welder, so he makes everything bespoke for his machines. He purchased a set of generic footpegs pegs from a motorcycle supplier, and then he fabricated an elevated platform on both sides to serve as foot plates and a mounting frame for the highway pegs outboard of the fairing. The plates are reinforced and attach to the scooter's undercarriage for strength and stability.
      Neil said that his highway pegs even work as crash guards! Some careles cager backed into his scooter in a parking lot and knocked it onto its side. He came out to survey the damage and found that the scoot was resting on the folded footpeg instead of on any plastics. Nice! 😉👍 --QM

      That's a good question! If I were to purchase today, then I'd probably go for the ADV150 because of its better brakes and suspension. The rider triangle and seating position is a bit better on the ADV than on the PCX due to the ADV's higher/wider handlebar position.
      If the rumor mill is accurate, then we should be receiving the updated ADV160 sometime later this year or early 2023. That would be my preference because it has the upgraded 4-valve engine and slightly revised ergonomics (e.g., lower seat height, narrower waist, wider leg shield, etc).
      I was really hoping that the ADV350 would make it to the USA, but that's looking less likely with all of the recent shipping delays and cancellation announcements from Honda. It looks like we're going to see yet another drought in motorcycle deliveries to the USA for a while. Keep your fingers crossed that things return to "normal" soon! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard thanks so much my friend. I knew you would have the latest scoop. My local dealer has been a Honda store since the sixties but gets very little inventory for some reason. He has a PCX coming soon but no ADV for six to eight months. Think I will wait for the ADV and maybe I will get lucky if the rumors prove true, would love the 160. Thank you again for your great vids and your speedy reply to my question. Earl

    What size pad have you guys found works best on the scooter seats?

      The AirHawk Cruiser Large seat cushion fits well on the PCX150 seat: amzn.to/3wlCr9a . I have a couple of these that I swap around to different bikes as needed. Adrian and Neil are also running the same AirHawk cushions on their scoots. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    You should have taken the Super Cub and not have to worry about the CVT

      The Honda PCX is normally a rock-solid and reliable machine. The NCY transmission components (performance variator, clutch, and rear pulley spring) in the 2016 PCX were the culprits in this case. Something was defective with the front drive pulley since its installation about 4K miles ago (noisy warbling sound), but it apparently got much worse and started eating belts. We reverted everything back to Honda OEM pieces in the 2016 PCX, and it went back to sewing machine reliability.
      I will probably revert my 2015 PCX back to the Honda OEM variator before the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run event. We might experiment with Dr.Pulley sliders in the OEM variators to see if that gives us a reliable speed/economy boost over the OEM roller weights. Reliability is the key for those long distance events, so it's better to be safe than sorry! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    I am really surprised the PCX doesn't come with a hazard light?. Most economy scooters come with this feature. I guess they should make it mandatory for all 2 wheelers considering the risk involved in riding one. And I would also suggest that all 2 wheelers also come fitted with a third brake light ( just like how they have it in automobiles and commerical vehicles) mandatorily for the sake of safety of riders.

    How can he run out of gas, but not you ? It’s the same bike.

      My 2015 PCX150 has a Dr.Pulley performance variator in it that lowers engine RPM at cruising speeds. The upgraded variator yields a ~15% increase in fuel mileage at 55-60 MPH.
      My 2015 PCX will cruise comfortably at 65 MPH while using about 3/4 throttle. The 2016 PCX with the factory Honda variator tops-out at 63-64 MPH while banging off of the rev-limiter. So, his scoot was laboring harder and using more fuel than mine.
      We will probably install identical variators, sliders, and rear CVT pulley springs (contra springs) in both of these bikes before we head out next June for the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run. It'll be interesting to see how they compare when most of the variables have been eliminated. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard nice thank you for that. Lovin’ your videos. Real curious about longevity of the different pulleys and cat upgrades in these. As your friends bike were busting belts….. Peacefrom510 .
