I was pondering over whether I should purchase this camera or not and this video definitely sold it to me. Photograph of the lady with the red gloves is insane ❤️ Much love from Scotland. X
Had to come back to this epic video. Summer's back and I just bought a Mamiya 645 with all the goodies (and the seller threw in 10 rolls of Portra 400 ;)). Cherry on top: just in time to put it to use on a sailing trip from the Turkish coast to the Greek isles. Overexposure here I come.
Love this style to photograph. And I really like the 80mm 1.9. Now I want a Mamiya AFD (because of the form factor) and this lens... but an used one is still expensive :O
Hello Robin, what do you advise me? I'm leaving 3 weeks in Columbia with my Leica mp and summicron 35, I thought to take a total of 20 films: 5x Agfa Vista Plus 200, 5x Fujicolor C200,5x Portra 400 and for B&W 5x Trix400. If you left 20 days, what would you take? I like the cheaps film like Agfa Vista, yes consumer films but not bad at all! :-)
Great video and also fantastic photos! I was wondering about how many of the photos were shot wide open. Some of them have crazy creamy bokeh. Would you also recommend the 1.9 lens? Or would you think that the 2.8 would create similar results?
Alter! Hammer Fotos! wie der Zufall so ist werd ich ab morgen früh auch eine Mamiya 645 besitzen, ma gucken wie die so ist. Beste Grüße aus Berlin Weiter so!
I remember you mentioned you would put Kodak Vision 3 50D and 500 into this camera in 120 format? Is there a video that I missed with that? I'm interested to see how to make Vision 3 into 120 :) Great videos!
Hello Grant. I shot a video in Taipei earlier this year shooting 500t in 120. Not using it on this trip since there is no lap that can develop it for me while I am traveling.
the_real_sir_robin how did you make it 120? I don't understand haha isn't it 35mm size? I never shot it so I wouldn't know. Would you ever be able to do a video explaining it? :) edit: oh I see someone sells handmade rolls on that on ebay. Very interesting!
I have a M645 1000S and wonder what you have found as your sweet spot for the aperture of a 35mm, 45mm, 80mm and 150mm. I've been sticking with f/8 for all four. Did you shot at box speed? Your images are stunning with composition and color rendition. Thx for taking the time to share.
Thank you Stuart! I only have the 80/1.9 and I mainly shoot wide open, simply love the look. I shot this roll 2-3 stops over to make the Portra shine. 👌
the_real_sir_robin and it totally was shining! I would of never thought to overexpose it that much but I will for sure now do that. Simply awesome photos my friend, made me want to run and grab my camera to go shoot
Are you using the 1000s or the first gen with max 500 shutter speed. Curious how you could get your aperture so wide open with relatively bright sun hitting the subjects even with over exposing a few stops?
Haven't used anything like that before but focusing an aperture of f/1.9 should be harder. However it also comes down to the viewfinder and die focusing screen.
Amazing shots. Here is the only thing that I don't particularly like, after you get the shot, you walk away. For me, like to make physical contact with the subject and thank them. Whether a hand shake or quick hug.. Something that connects the subject to the photograph therefore they not just a prop. My humble opinion..
Overexposing on film, and underexposing with digital can be a good rule of thumb in order to not lose/be able to recover the information received by the sensor
Getting that deja vu vibe here. That wimpy kid with the shadow on his top lip from Negative Feedback has already been there and done that, with more success I would say and he didn't run about like his tail was on fire trying to photograph everything with a pulse on the beach. Here's a thought. Why don't you relax a bit and actually spend just a few minutes talking and at least showing an interest in your subjects. If you did you might unwittingly notice the palm trees growing out of people's heads. And no I won't be buying your bloody Zine. I'm in too much of a hurry to flip through it.
Nice vibe and geil photos!! Auf wiedersehen!
love the energy and colourful portraits
Your modest, friendly but sincere connection with strangers is a key factor to your great street and portrait photos! Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much Nikoleta! 🙂
I had so much fun watching this! Music and Video are on point and I love the spirit. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! You won't regret getting a Mamiya 645 1000s! 👏
Wowww! Very cool series, great shoots, nice people and very cool music! Love your stuff!! 👍👍👍
those are wonderful. especially the young surfers in a group. I just got a 1.9 and am learning it now. Thanks for the inspiration!

Haha, sounds great! Hopefully, the sea won't be to rough, otherwise it might be tough to get some good shots. 😅
Damn, these are amazing!
Thank you! 😊
Robin as usual, it's a very nice video, great pics and lovely colors of Portra...Good job
Thank you very much Nicolas! 🙂
Very cool man, some incredible portraits & classic california music to go with it. Captured the vibe well!!
Thank you very much! 😊👌
This video was so fun! Haha, especially good to see the footage and story behind those shots you showed me in Melbourne.
Thank you Hashem! 😅👊
Sir Never disappoints. Lovely video again. I enjoy your interactions as much as your pictures
Thank you very much! 🤗
Du hast mir mit diesem Beitrag einige Male ein Lächeln auf mein Gesicht gezaubert. Danke dafür.
Mag deine Bilder. Weiter so.....

Sehr geil!!!
Eines deiner besten Videos, klasse Fotos.
Mach weiter so, Robin!💪👍
Danke dir Anita! 🤗
man, you brought me right back, love it. Quintessential CA photos, sehr gut gemacht :)
Exactly! Thank you! 😊
That’s fun :) I’m too shy to ask others for taking portrait so I always take pictures as candid
Cool video ! Beautiful portraits! Enjoy your journey.
Dankeschön! Gruß aus Tahiti.
Tolles Setting, coole Motive und klasse Portraits. Hat beim zuschauen schon Spaß gemacht!
Dankeschön Dirk! 🤗
Another great video, love the photos!
Thank you very much Lars! 🙂
I enjoy your videos, man. Keep up the good work, and greetings from Perú!
Thanks Tito! Greetings from Bora Bora!
Really like the portraits and the Kodak Portra as well. 👍🏾
Thank you very much Talya! 🤗👊
Thank you very much Talya! 🤗👊
My favourite shot of all was 2:30 .. that looks like boyband album cover material!!!
Yes, you are right! 😅
Some pretty amazing portraits, Robin! The one with the woman in red gloves is superb though.
Thank you very much Damien. 🙂
Great pictures as always! 👍
Thanks Marco! 😊
Excellent work! I wish you did an LA meetup!
Thank you Richard. We did a meet-up last Sunday in Santa Monica.
Oh bummer sad I missed it
Yes, very unfortunate!
Love this style to photograph. And I really like the 80mm 1.9. Now I want a Mamiya AFD (because of the form factor) and this lens... but an used one is still expensive :O
Get the 645 1000s instead and the saved money you can invest into a nice copy of the 80/1.9.
@@therealsirrobin I really like the look of the AFD bodies. But never grabed my hands on one.
great music selection watched this on the edge of my seat
Thanks Deniz! 👌
Good one! Great music too. So is this a music video? A how to video? A portrait session? You're creating a new medium. Nice!

amazing photos as always!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Great vibes!
Thank you Bram! 😊
Pure talent!
Thanks! 🤗
Nice work! I just bought that 1.9 and really looking forward to shooting with it. How often were you wide open, and was it hard to nail focus?
All shots were shot wide open.
Nice nice nice nice!!!!!
Thank you Lorenzo! 👍
Gorgeous shots! What camera and lens did you use to shoot the video footage?
Hello Robin, what do you advise me? I'm leaving 3 weeks in Columbia with my Leica mp and summicron 35, I thought to take a total of 20 films:

Pretty much all of them were shot wide open. The 2.8 won't give you the same look but it's easier to find, smaller and way cheaper.
IT LOOKS SO GOOOOOOOODDDDD
the colors man *_*
Yes, Portra is awesome! 👌
4:26 astonishing!
Alter! Hammer Fotos!
wie der Zufall so ist werd ich ab morgen früh auch eine Mamiya 645 besitzen, ma gucken wie die so ist.
Beste Grüße aus Berlin
Weiter so!
Danke dir! Viel Spaß mit der Mamiya, bin damit sehr zufrieden! 👍
Great video!
Do you use the lightmeter of the prismo or the sunny 16?
No, was just guessing. I never use sunny 16 and the lightmeter isn't working anymore. 😬
I remember you mentioned you would put Kodak Vision 3 50D and 500 into this camera in 120 format? Is there a video that I missed with that? I'm interested to see how to make Vision 3 into 120 :) Great videos!

Bought it on ebay. 😊
Great portraits!
At 4:40 i thought you’d be taking a photo of the beauties sitting on the wall... unfortunately not! :-)
I asked them but they were to busy shooting selfies. 😅
hahah like the 2nd song, nice vibe.

Thank you Michael! I usually overexpose C41 film stocks by 1 or 2 stops.
Amazing Photos! Just curious as to why you over exposed by 2 stops?
Thank you Rob!👍 Overexposure makes the colors shine even more. This is true for most color negative film stocks.
aha at 2:21 on the far left is pro skater rowan zorilla
Great photos.. did you use any filters ?
Thank you! No filters.
If you overexposed by 2 stops, what was the minimum shutter speed in order to keep tack sharp?
Here I probably wasn't below 1/500.
Dude you shot a pro skateboarder, Elijah Berle @ 2:30
Haha, cool! I don't know him but it's really cool that you recognized him! 😊
I noticed that too lol, so sick
Andrew Diaz haha and he didn’t know thinking insome dude on board cool 😎 🤣
Rowan Zorilla is in that too! haha
great videos and lovely photos, did you use your flatbed scanner to scan the negatives for this?
Thank you! The lab use a Fuji Frontier for the scans. I didn't retouch them at all.
Are you using the 1000s or the first gen with max 500 shutter speed. Curious how you could get your aperture so wide open with relatively bright sun hitting the subjects even with over exposing a few stops?
Also: other than the difference in bokeh, is there any other special qualities in rendering with 1.9 over the 2.8? Love your content!!
It's a 1000s. The 80/1.9 is the only lens I have ever used on the Mamiya so I can't comment on other lenses.
Interesting but quite a difference to your usual street work. Guess you have to adjust using that monster of a camera, though.
Hello Paul! No, did that km purpose. Street there is kinda boring because it isn't real life there.
sehr schön, gutes Auge für Motive. Wie schon so häufig bei Dir.
Dankeschön Bruno! 👍
Did you meter any of these.? If so how?
Cool video, what lens did you used?
Thanks! 80/1.9
Klasse!
Which Mamiya did you shoot with?
cool vid...subscribed.
Do you meter before you take the shot? or while you're focusing?
I wasn't metering at all. All shots wide open at 1/1000.
Do you ever rate this film at 200 speed or do you shoot at box speed and make adjustments in-camera?
I always overexpose Portra by 2 or 3 stops, I simply prefer the results over stock.
@@therealsirrobin like what do you mean by overexposing 2 or 3 stops, do you mean you use slower shutter speed?
Yes, exactly!
Do you leave a business card with the people you just took a portrait of? As these are portraits I guess people would like to have a print.
No, didn't do that. Usually won't contact you anyways.
gold
Thanks Brett!
where do you live in LA?
Is this the 645 super?
No. Mamiya 645 1000s.
fantastisch
So following you on instagram after this
Thank you for the support! 🤗
all the picture shoot in f 1.9?
Yes, all wide open!
the_real_sir_robin have u ever shoot with hasselblad 500cm and 50mm f4? is it harder to focus compare to mamiya 645z with 80mm f1.9?
Haven't used anything like that before but focusing an aperture of f/1.9 should be harder. However it also comes down to the viewfinder and die focusing screen.
the_real_sir_robin split screen?
No, just a very bright screen.
Great output on that Mamiya but since you were on Venice Beach where are the girls wearing less than bikinis
Thank you! I didn't see any of them. Even if I did film them, I couldn't share that on UA-cam. 😂
Amazing shots. Here is the only thing that I don't particularly like, after you get the shot, you walk away. For me, like to make physical contact with the subject and thank them. Why overexpose the photos by 1-2 stops on film camera?
the film roll is expired thats why
Overexposing on film, and underexposing with digital can be a good rule of thumb in order to not lose/be able to recover the information received by the sensor
Michael Kunz Thank you so much
Because the colors look much nicer when overexposing Portra by a couple of stops. 👍
that skateboard didn't look too happy about his photo being taken.
You think so? 🤣
酷
