Paint Life TV... Chris, Yes I absolutely would under the right circumstances. As I mentioned above though, It wouldn't be a daily driver.
You are right about not wanting to paint using it it will not work smoothly and as it gets harder to lower and raise be careful not to smash or pinch your hands.
@@davidcastano4760 to keep the Xtend+Climb ladder in tip top shape, remember to wipe the stiles off. You can use Pledge wipes. Spray the ladder with a dry silicon spray on stiles and thumb tab area to help if it gets wet. The dry silicon prevents a vapor seal on the dampening system which when sealed causes difficulty in extending and retracting. Once the water dries internally the ladder functions normally again. If you start retracting from your highest reach there is a safety feature that leaves a gap to ensure your hands and fingers are protected while retracting the ladder down.

No I wouldn’t use the cheaper one. I’m 210 pounds and I often have 30 pound tool bags on so I need something extra sturdy. I’ve been looking for a telescopic ladder for convenience and portability, but haven’t found one I’m impressed with for the money yet.

Now that I'm into my 70's, I needed to sell my trusted 24' Werner Type 1A fiberglass extension ladder. I downsized to a small, one-story age-in-place home on a slab with little storage options. I bought the 785P+ ladder from Home Depot online. I tried it out and it fits my needs. It isn't heavy and it stores compactly. I cannot foresee a need to climb/work higher than 14' on my new house except to check my security cameras or clean a short-run gutter area. No more climbing on roofs or working on chimneys. I think I got the perfect ladder thanks to you. For any other climbing needs, I'll just write the check to a younger person to make the needed repairs.

I HAD the cheaper ladder and now have the Xtend. Two things- the Xtend las much better feet- they’re softer and grip better on hardwood floors. My wife came down 12 feet when the cheaper ladder slipped on hardwood and crashed. We bought the Xtend ladder and the extra money is ABSOLUTELY worth it. The cheaper ladder is hard to set up for height if its not fully extended, you really can’t select your height. The Xtend is more difficult to take down with the extra buttons & levers but actually works if you need partial height. We bought the 780P+ 12.5’ Xtend and again, it’s absolutely worth the extra money.

Keeper. I've seen you back roll stucco after spray. I'm thinking about painting my pad myself. Can I just use a roller and brush the rest? Stucco is like baby popcorn not textured.

A $120 ladder vs, a $400 ladder? Thank you for the review! If I were a professional and used a ladder every day, the Extend Climb would be my choice. If I were a home owner who needed a ladder occasionally, the LionLadder is a winner!
It looks like one could accidentally hit the thumb releases on the Extend Climb ladder. Is there something in the ladder that prevents that?
This is a great option for a homeowner who only needs access to a ladder like this a few times a year. It stores easily and is non intrusive in my garage. I wouldn’t everyday use with this but it is perfect for the few times a year I need it.

I think I am looking for something to access the top of my hi-roof van from time to time or to access the sides of it which are about 9 feet up.
I didn't want to rely on a typical mounted ladder to the back door, but also didn't want the ladder to take up storage space somewhere inside the vehicle given that it will need to become a permanent ficture in the event access to the roof to maintain various off grid accessories like solar panel wiring, antenas, or other items. Most of the items can be maintain once on top of the vehicle, for example an Air conditioner unit or fan housing. However, if the vehicle's side areas of the roof or side panels need to be accessed for maintenance or cleaning, then I would need to sustain myself up next to the vehicle in a manner which is supportive and does not damage the side of the vehicle (if I am limited to leaning the ladder up against the side of the van).
I could use padding though, given that this would be an infrequent use requirement.
I thought your mention of how dust, water affect the telescopic workings of these ladders was very important, and what is not "advertised" during other presentations.

Thanks for the review...I was gonna buy the original extend climb ladder awhile back..I found one at a second hand store...I started reading the reviews how the ladders would fail over time...the pins would get worn out and not ingauge..thus causing the person to fall...after I read about a few reported cases I passed....cool ladder tho...would be great for staircases with the pivot tool.thanks for the great review👍

I bought a 16' telescoping ladder recently. I tried using it, but it has so much bounce to it, I have zero confidence in it. It feels like it is just going to fold up. Might be good for going 6-10 feet up, but fully extended, no thanks, back to the extension ladder for me.
Really complete information. Bet I know more than some who both own and use it. Did not catch actual weight of ladders, probably my fault.

Hi. I would like your review on the multipurpose folding ladder... i am very skeptical about it. However i think that is the most convenient for site visits and small work. However i fear the safety of my staff?
Near the beginning of the video you were showing that you need to open it from the top, which seems and looks kinda awkward - I plan on using this for an attic access, and I wouldnt have the room to do that. But then at 4:13 you show extending it essentially from the bottom up.

I absolutely endorse the professional-grade telescoping ladders (with the thumb release) and have used them for close to a decade - so much so, that I no longer have a "traditional" extension ladder.
Their durability and compact dimensions make them ideal - including circumstances where an A-Frame becomes impractical (such as corners above deep kitchen cabinetry, starwells and tight perimeters) and especially for space-saving implementation like storage.
As for the "flexing" aspect that seems to bother some individuals - you'll get used to it over time (as you would any ladder or scaffolding, since each has a different feel) and regarding the life of the product, as always, it depends upon how well people care for their equipment. The longevity of any piece of equipment can be extended with proper care and maintenance. Negligence will have the predicted outcome.

It won’t ratchet from the top because those red buttons are pressed when the step collapses on the step below. It will only stay extended when there are no stops below to hit the step above and trigger collapse of the next section.
Well, it looks pretty simple. You have buttons under steps, so when one step is fully folded it will push buttons to fold next one.
if someone pushes release buttons while I am on the ladder, they better be gone before I hit the ground

With my gear im getting close to 330 pounds, you think its safe to use a 12 foot variant of the Xtend and climb ladder?
Im a flatbed truck driver a Ladder is a tool we have for a once in a full moon time for climbing on loads about 13ft in the air. Would you recommend it for that?
I didn't need a latter all the time, but I look for the weight limit. Do you have the weight limit on the two latters?
The Xtend+Climb ladder that is shown has a 250lb duty rating ANSI Type 1; therefore is tested with 4 times that weight to pass the ANSI requirements for ANSI certification. The Lion is EN131 certification which are tested with the weight advertised.
I'm confused at 1:47 you say it only ratchets from the bottom up. But at 4:03 & 8:54 you ratchet it up from the top?
Basically, the red release mechanisms work when the rung collapses onto the one below it.
If you ratchet from the top without *fully* extending the ladder one of the rungs will necessarily be sitting on the one below it, thus triggering the self-collapsing feature.
'Ya can't extend the ladder from the top halfway and expect it to stay. If you're only going to partially extend it, it's gotta be from the bottom, so none of the red levers are triggered.
I purchased a yellow extend ladder at Sam's club about 10 years ago from a traveling show. It looks like the small.ladder but works like your pro ladder. I LOVE the ladder. I was very afraid of the bounce when I first used it. I'm 260lbs. Now I run up and down it with zero fear. Mine has the green dots too. If you don't see a green dot and walk up that ladder that wrong will fall down on you. I know it happened to me. Also, if you drop a wrong with you web of your thumb in side the wrong it will hurt BADLY!. My ladder stopped moving up and down so I don't use it anymore. I miss it... need a new one
Mark Xtend+Climb ladders are ANSI certified and tested with 4 times the weight to pass ANSI certification. The Lion is a EN131 certified ladder and is tested with the weight advertised on the ladder. The certifications are very different. ANSI is more stringent with their requirements.

I just ordered the lion 12' but different mechanism and for light work inside like foyer painting and other not so tall areas I think I LL stay with it cause fits on any car and of course the extension ladders could be used on outside jobs. But am getting a few of these for inside jobs very light convenient and practical I used it today I loved it am staying with it
My lion ladder failed and I broke my leg. I weigh 160 pounds and use ladders every day. The non slip pads on the bottom are only held on by a little bit of glue. Do not trust it.
Question: I’ve been shopping for a ladder for doing home inspections. I have been comparing Xtend + Climb vs Little Giant and while I would love the compact size of Xtend + Climb, the Little Giant style ladders seem SOOOOO much more versatile and safe.
Costco sells a 17 foot Little Giant for $199, but it’s on sale all the time for $149.
Why would you pay $400+ for a ladder with far less features? Especially if you’re using it professionally.
The only thing I can think of is you have a TINY car, but I was able to fit a 17 foot Little Giant into my small 2 seater sports car. It folds down to under 5 feet.

I believe a Werner standoff will fit on this ladder. I use it on mine. Much safer especially the higher you go. It places you off the building about a foot so a much better working position as you are no longer hugging the building while working.
Check ladder pivot tool. That's a game changer too. Saw his video on it and immediately bought to of them.
The standoffs do work on Xtend+Climb ladders.
Just fyi: the fact that you have to extend from the bottom up is a demand in the EU. It prevents you from having a set of steps in the middle of the ladder, which you might miss when climbing down. So either it's fully extended or the none-extended steps are on the top .
I also don’t see the wide bar on the bottom of the ladder that they all seem to have here in the EU. This gives them more stability. Looks like EU rules are more strict ?

It seems like the buttons on the Lion Ladder get depressed as the next step coming down. So. I think you can extend the ladder from the top, but you need to extend it all of the way to use it.

I recently picked up the SocTone A-Frame/extension ladder.
A-frame will allow for 12.5ft of height, and the extension allows for 16.5ft of of height. Is rated for $330 lbs and it even comes with a pair can/tool shelf that can be positioned anywhere on the ladder.
I mostly use it in a step ladder configuration or the A-Frame. But I like it.

The "shock absorber" Effect is just air. There's probably a small air escape hole and a decent seal on each section. The small air hole lets it collapse without pressurizing the sections but it also lets it collapse nice and slow.
I had the Extend And Climb and the buttons or latches broke off so the ladder did not function. There is a spring mechanism that fails. Tried to get a hold of customer service
which was impossible. I would not purchase a ladder from them. I have had two that failed after paying a hefty price.
I have been using these type of ladders since they started selling them and love them, however the only one that has lasted was the Telesteps which I highly recommend.

Really Great vid, appreciate the effort. I AM in the market for a ladder, to store in and access the roof of my hightop van. One thing that I find especially puzzling about many of these on the market, is how they telescope from the bottom. What I mean is: say it’s extended 2/3 ... the remaining rungs are at the TOP. Seems as though that would be a little more “top heavy”, as opposed to the remaining rungs being at the BOTTOM.
Am I the only one who sees that as a poor engineering example ? True, the first ‘step’ might be a bit tall, having the added collapsed rungs down low; however, I’d rather take a big step at bottom and have weight mass down low, than top “heavy” ...
In looking at Many videos, I think that the “problem” is that the Chinese manufacturers simply make a Poor choice of photo-demonstration. They have images with the top rungs ‘bunched’, rather than (Logically) the bottom rungs ‘bunched’. It seems that they all (work) in proper ‘orientation’, just Poor marketing ....
An example of my “concern” can be viewed in the Aldi Telescopic Ladder vid, as well as the LABEL on the Franklin Harbor Freight unit.
6:07 Isn't it a bad idea (and dangerous) to lean a ladder against the side edge of a slanted roof? If the ladder is placed straight, it's only making contact at one point with the edge of the roof and thus would wiggle when someone climgs on , and the only way to get the ladder to contact the high and low parts of the roof is to slant the ladder laterally (and that's another no-no).Also, there is increased risk of the ladder to slide off the side of the roof from left to right.

I was thinking of buying one, but changing my mind, thanks. Not good for spraying, pressure washing, sanding, since all this will cause maintenance issues that becomes more of a headache for myself and employees, I will continue using my 16' aluminum extension ladder.
The Xtend+Climb ladder are not recommended to get wet because the water causes a vapor seal on the dampening system which makes the ladders difficult to open and close until the water is evaporated. You can prevent this by using a dry silicone spray on the stiles

Falling from any ladder could be the last thing you ever do, so it's just not worth it to me to have any ladder that could collapse during use and should the locking mechanism ever fail your hitting the ground

Glad he mentioned importance of cleanliness, so the telescopic action runs smoothly. That might make these ladders ideal for reaching high shelves. But it would seem to eliminate them from any task that is messy. Even using it to blow leaves out of gutters would risk getting debris into the telescoping mechanism. That is what I get from the video.

You do not want silicone on your hands if your going to be doing paint work
Michael, Dry silicone Spray is the only suggested lubricant for Xtend+Climb ladders. Anything petroleum based will form a gummy substance internally and make opening and closing challenging.

I have the $85 Amazon telescoping ladder and really like it. I bought it about 5 years ago to work on a rental house. It fits in my small car and is small enough to move around in the house alone.
With all that said - it flex’s a lot and is scary for others. I climb it slowly every time just to make sure it’s clicked in properly. It has a 250lb weight limit, so if you are carrying something keep that in mind.
I would worry about somebody not clicking the locks in properly and falling off

Seems like you showed preference for your ladder. You extended YOUR ladder quite effectively and without hesitation, while the other ladder, you would constantly pause, to allow the rungs to fall back down. Extend both at the same pace and action. At the 9:00 mark, you extended the lion with no problem.

Telescopic ladders are very convenient, easy to store and some are light enough to easily carry. However from a safety perspective you must consider the multiple points of failure at every single step. Most of the potential points of failure are hidden from view, there is often no warning when they fail. If easy storage is more important than your life, then this is the ladder for you. Check public records for lawsuits involving these ladders, many folks have had their lives changed forever when the ladder failed. Sometimes stepping off a roof and onto the ladder, that first step fails, then the whole ladder collapses resulting in death or TBI (traumatic brain injury). The common problem was there was no warning or indication that the ladder was about to fail. The ladder worked perfectly until it didn't. Extension ladders are the safest ladders made, all of the hardware is in plain sight. There are only 2 locks / latches for the whole ladder. If a lock has not engaged, you can see it before climbing the ladder. Checking out the ladder before each use will expose any damaged or lose parts.

It slides down like that because of the positioning of the locking buttons. If somebody wants to kill you, they only have to press the 2 buttons on the lowest rung and the ladder will do the rest.😬
Went up 2 rungs on the Lion Ladder, lol. Can get the same height with a step up platform.

Thanks, good video. Wish I would have seen this before I bought the Lionladder, (the price was good at $65 for 12.5 ft.) But, the fact that you have to raise from the bottom up, makes this ladder pathetic. I needed it to raise up to attic door in ceiling but couldn't raise it high enough to reach because I couldn't reach top of ladder to continue raising. It's almost like you need to lay it down if raise beyond 7 feet. To which I couldn't do because I raising up though a cut-out in ceiling.
Good idea, great concept, just poor execution.
You don't have to start from the bottom. They keep collapsing because it's pressing its own buttons. Start from the top one. Slide it up, it's locked. Then the next, etc. etc. Works perfectly fine starting from the top- the key is that you have to extend every section. What he is trying to do here is extend only some of the rungs, and leave the middle retracted for some unknown reason. Maybe it's just because he wants to sway people to the other ladder. I don't know why else you'd try to leave the middle collapsed. He literally extended the ladder from the top, which he said wasn't possible, after he said it couldn't be done. He did it and never even mentioned it. At 3:32 he just finished showing it collapse in on itself, and goes right into extending it from the top.
Hard to disengage, pins break, it's heavy, paint hinders it's ability to extend/retract, safety stickers fall off, flexs quite a bit, and it's the better of the two?
Honestly I see potential in specific circumstances but that would limit it's use for me. We all have specialty tools that only get used every so often but when needed are a life saver. This goes in that category for me.

In the professional arena we don’t use this type of ladder. Homeowners and DIY types may like it but it can’t stand the heavy use we put our tools through. So, why does this matter, because both ladders are roughly the same price and why would you buy something that lasts 10% as long as the professional ladder?

I am not sure all telescoping ladders have similar designs or construction but if you own a telescoping ladder, get rid of it. They seem pretty safe and there were many good reviews on here and Amazon but this thing is extremely dangerous. The plastic seals that prevent the ladder from collapsing in on itself become detached and block the pins from engaging that lock the ladder runs in place. I am an older man and the fall would have killed me. Fortunately, I caught myself and hung on until my son could rescue me with another ladder. I know this ladder is very popular on Amazon but they are a death trap! Get rid of it. Once again, these are extremely dangerous. I have contacted the US Federal Product Safety Commission to issue a recall.
