Hi Kathryn. I am old enough to be your mom now but way back when... I was a semi-pro dancer. This video brings back so many memories! I love exercising with your other videos. Lastly, my thyroid went bad in my 20's... I'm so impressed that you've made "lemonade" out of the lemons that life threw your way; you are a fantastic ballet teacher.
I got mine 2 weeks ago, and my first class using them was last Thursday. Anyways, the pointe shoes I got were the same as well! Surprisingly, only one other person in my class has the Bloch European Balance, most got Russian pointes.
YOU'RE DOGS ARE SO DARLING!!! I'm glad to have little faces to put to the tiny whines and barks we've been hearing!! Now I want a new dance bag, your's is so CUTE!
Q: Can you please do a video comparing Balanchine technique with other techniques--demonstrating the differences physically? I know they all can't be explained away in a few minutes but perhaps an overview of arms, positions held differently, maybe the difference in musicality, the heel not lowering in allegro....really anything that is Balanchine specific as compared to other styles. Thanks for the great videos!! :D
I am SO thankful to find this channel on UA-cam. I love finding new ways to become a better dancer. It's also a plus that I'm a Katherine that goes by Katie as well.
Here a question for you. Before you became a professional dancer, did you ever get yelled at in class? If so, what did you do about it? I get yelled at quite a lot in class because I'm not as strong as the other dancers who take the same class as me, and memorizing combinations quickly is really difficult. All the yelling and negative comments I've gotten has really made me loose my passion for ballet and I'm not sure what to do about it. Thanks.
What did you do about it? I've debated about quitting ballet so many times these past two years but I haven't because ballet is my entire life and I feel that if I quit I wouldn't be able to start up again.
OnDasherOnDancer I'm sorry to hear that. I'm still dancing, but I doubt myself a lot more now than before. I'm now a guest "professional" dancer at a community studio in my hometown (when I say "professional" I mean that my training is more of the professional level than at the studio I'm working at). I teach there too. Hopefully taking a year off my pre-pro training will help me regain my love for ballet.
Never let the doubts that were sowed in your past hold you back. The teachers who were harsh with you cannot be considered teachers, only task masters. Leave them behind you in the dust and sail beautifully on!
Hi Katie! I was wondering if you could maybe start a new series of sort? It is for teaching variations. I love learning variations but it's kind of hard to figure things out sometimes. Thanks! I love your channel by the way :)
I used to use gel but I found that they were the reason for a blister and rubbing problem so I switched to sort of a sock with gel in the middle of another sock. They are amazing! My toes are a lot more comfortable but I can get a good feel of my shoes. I think they're called Super Gellows by Pillows for Pointes.
you are such a wonderful and dedicated youtuber! i dont think i've ever come across a more helpful, consistent, and interactive-with-subscribers channel ever! thank you so much! i'm going to be taking so much advice from you as i'm rolling into my senior year of high school!
Hello Katie!! I have always been in love with your part of the dance magazine Dance Spirit Ask Katie! I just now relized this is you and I’m sooooo happy!
I always prefer Bloch for dance shoes. Except I have a high instep and their jazz shoes cut into my feet, so I have Capezio jazz shoes and foot under, but all my other shoes, even my pointe shoes, are Bloch. I also hear that Capezio shoes wear out really fast, but my jazz shoes have held up great.
I love your videos! I just watched your audition advise and it really helped me:) I have auditions in 2 months and im very thankfull for the helpfull videos u make:)
Hi Kathryn! I'm so happy to have found your channel :) Thanks for all the videos you've posted so far. I have a video request for you. I was wondering if you could talk more about injury prevention, some tips on at home physio, and just general tips on dealing with an injury. I'm having trouble with my left ankle and can't seem to get in sorted out. Not sure if its from my new runners or what? Maybe you could talk about how you keep your feet in shape for dancing. Thanks so much!
Hi Kathryn my name is Katie.I am starting ballet but I'm 11 and your videos have really helped me so I just wanted to let you know that because not many people actually appreciate it .Have a good day
i just found a new love and appreciation for ballet...so watching your vids somehow relaxes me...i dance too but more of hiphop and little of jazz...but i want to apply the discipline ballerinas use in my dancing...
Could you make a video on Body Image and Ballet? I think it's quite an important topic to tackle and I'd really love to hear your opinion. Also my questions for your Q&A are: If you weren't doing ballet, where do you think you'd be right now? What do you like best about western ballet style? And What do you like best about russian ballet style? e.g. certain moves and overall aesthetic Love your videos, hope this week you have some time to relax from last!
Your videos are so helpful I love them! Could you do a health/lifestyle video on staying healthy and what and what not to eat? And also could you do a video on turnout? My tendus to the side aren't always completely turned out and if you could give me some tips that would help a lot! Thank you!
I love your videos - they are so helpful! I also wear Bloch 5 XX but I wear Amelie's instead of European Balance :) I was wondering if you had any tips about specific things that Balanchine style teachers look for. I am going to a summer course that I know will have some Balanchine instruction and I have never done it before! Thanks for sharing all of this! I have been hoping for a channel like this for a while!
Do you think you could say in the video how to know when you're ready for pointe, and what age you usually have to be to be on pointe? Thank you so much!!!!!!! -Naida
I love your videos!!!! I have a few requests: I am terrible at putting on fake eyelashes so a tutorial on that would be awesome! Also, a daytime makeup tutorial; I mostly want to know about contouring and foundation and concealer and stuff like that, and also eyebrows (even though yours are naturally fantastic!). Another, if it's not too personal, how to handle your money on a dancer salary. Last one, tips for company auditions would be very helpful! I also have a question: what are your favorite brushes, I have no clue how to judge that kind of thing. Thank you for your awesome videos, I love all of them!
Hello Kathryn, I stumbled on your videos a few weeks ago, and I always check on UA-cam all the time to check for new videos! It's really cool to see a new dance channel blossoming! A have a few questions so here they are: - (haha, this sounds silly) but in my class we have a lot of good pirouette-ers and we've started to do doubles (not on pointe) I can do them on my right foot, but always struggle on my left! What are the best ways to turn well and practice turning without just going round and round? Or is that the best way? :) - Sorry, I haven't watched your whole leotard collection video, but how do you build up a bigger collection? I want a couple more, I've only got 3, only wear two of them. I want to buy some but they're really expensive and I live in New Zealand so shipping is either hundreds of dollars or unavailable :/ any inexpensive ideas? By the way I love your Leading Ladies series! Could you do a couple more people, maybe La Sylphide or Coppelia/Swanhilda? Thanks so much! :)
Hi Kathryn! It's Katie:) I'm leaving for my Summer Intensive soon, and I was wondering if you could give your young summer intensive self one piece of advice, what would it be? Thank you! I enjoy watching your videos and thank you for all of your wonderful advice!
First of all, I think you are a great role model and I'm very pleased my daughter loves to watch your videos. We have a pointe shoes question. My daughter is 12 and has been en pointe for almost a year and a half now. She goes through pointe shoes about every 3-4 weeks. I like to search the web to find shoes as inexpensive as possible! She wears Freed Studio ll in a 21/2 xx. I've noticed xx is fairly hard to find, have they changed the width letters and is there any other width comparable to xx? I hope that makes sense, thank you for all you do to help young dancers be successful!
Such cute puppies! :) I was wondering from your experience is there any chance at all that someone who starts ballet in their early 20's will ever build up enough strength to be en pointe?
I also have a thyroid problem I just found out about. Also I started ballet kind of late but I just woke up one day and realized that my calling in life is to dance. I love every kind of dance, but I'm going to be a professional ballet dancer and any advice you have for me would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Some more questions!: 1. How long do you think is too long for a commute to a ballet school? 2. Audition tips in general... 3. Can you show us some of your favorite stretches? 4. Which classes do you think are necessary in addition to technique and pointe if you want to be a professional? Pas de deux, variations, modern, jazz, etc? And what age should you start pas de deux at?
you should sell your ballet cd you made!! like make lots of them and sell them so we can use them at home to help follow along for ur barre videos and just to use on our own!! thanks ily❤️
I am 13 and I have done dance most of my life but had to slow down for a long while due to my thyroid disease as it made me very tired and run down however hearing about your thyroid disease has helped me so much how did you get through th
Hi Kathryn! Thanks so much for the channel, it's been so interesting watching your videos! Question: Do you have any tips when it comes to keeping your core strong and stomach "tucked" while dancing? That's one of the hardest things- keeping my hips and core aligned! Thanks in advance!!
Here's a video request haha (I'm sure you have so many!) but maybe you could do a video explaining the diet of a professional dancer and the foods you should and shouldn't eat to stay healthy and stuff:)
sorry if i ask you something people have already asked you many times but where are you dancing now? thank you for sharing with us a part of your life, i'm a ballerina too (still a student) and you are very inspiring!!!
Hey Kathryn! Good video, I love your dance bag! My dance bag has a lot of stuff. I'm trying to minimize all the stuff that I have too. So my questions for you is.. 1. How old were you when you started ballet? 2. What advice you give us ballet students who want to be professional ballet dancers. 3. And what advice do you give or what do you think of late ballet students who wants to be a professional ballet dancer. I hope you can answer my questions it will mean a lot since your an inspiration and I want a professional to answer and your opinion will mean a lot! Thanks Kathryn! :)
2020 anyone? ;)
I came from your new "What's In My Dance Bag" video! :)
haha yessss :D

Hi there!
Duchess and Carson are magical. They are so sweet. Beautiful, beautiful dogs.
ohmygod, you wear the same pointe shoes as me & in the same size! :') I feel cool now I can say I wear the same shoes as Kathryn Morgan
SO talented. You arrange and play your own piano music!!!! WOW!!! I honestly don't have the words!
I just got my first pair of pointe shoe's today, and I have the same shoes! 😄
Peppy Pizza me too
I got mine 2 weeks ago, and my first class using them was last Thursday. Anyways, the pointe shoes I got were the same as well! Surprisingly, only one other person in my class has the Bloch European Balance, most got Russian pointes.
YOU'RE DOGS ARE SO DARLING!!! I'm glad to have little faces to put to the tiny whines and barks we've been hearing!!

watching in 2020!!!! Love you Katie!!!
Can you do a pointe shoe collection and go through the pointe shoes you've had and why you switched
LOL My small foot massaging ball is also a pet toy......... However it still has the bell inside.....Everyone knows when I'm rolling out now. :)
I use the Bloch European Balance pointe shoes too, definitely recommend them!!
I am SO thankful to find this channel on UA-cam. I love finding new ways to become a better dancer. It's also a plus that I'm a Katherine that goes by Katie as well.
When I was still actively taking lessons I also used the Bloch European Balance pointe shoe and loved it! Good choice :)
Thanks.
Same thing happened to me. And memorizing combinations was really hard for me too.
What did you do about it? I've debated about quitting ballet so many times these past two years but I haven't because ballet is my entire life and I feel that if I quit I wouldn't be able to start up again.
I didn't survive that either, sadly, and my interest in dancing disappeared. I did stay interested and supportive of ballet as an art, however.
Never let the doubts that were sowed in your past hold you back. The teachers who were harsh with you cannot be considered teachers, only task masters. Leave them behind you in the dust and sail beautifully on!
You should sell your ballet class music on iTunes! :)
I am looking into it! :)
Kathryn Msorgan
Or at least a CD! :)
Oh ya you should!!!
Hi Katie!
I was wondering if you could maybe start a new series of sort? It is for teaching variations. I love learning variations but it's kind of hard to figure things out sometimes. Thanks! I love your channel by the way :)
Beautiful little Papillon dogs! Excellent names for them, too.
I loved this video! And it was fun to see Duchess and Carson at the end, too!
I always carried a small first aid kit and safety pins. For some reason, none of the other girls carried these things, but always needed them.
I've been loving the Bloch balance European as well!
what advice do you give to late starters who really want to have a career in the dance world?
I used to use gel but I found that they were the reason for a blister and rubbing problem so I switched to sort of a sock with gel in the middle of another sock. They are amazing! My toes are a lot more comfortable but I can get a good feel of my shoes. I think they're called Super Gellows by Pillows for Pointes.
