At the end of the eighties, beginning of the nineties I was often in Gothic Dance Clubs and attended several Dark Wave Festivals. Thank you for the memories and the brilliant mix.
Thank you! Experiments I like to do.... I always take great pleasure in listening to the album ‘First And Last And Always’ by Sisters Of Mercy. Another great album I would recommend is ‘Children’ by The Mission.
This is bloody excellent! I absolutely love Marian and Primary and you’ve enhanced them both. It’s actually like a quite scary and menacing duet between Andrew Eldritch & Robert Smith. Drama, darkness and one of the best bass lines ever👌Great imagery too!
Thanks! It must be said that there is very little of Primary, only the vocals.... I would also have liked to include Primary's guitar riff, but the isolated part was really dirty. As for Marian's vocals, they are actually three separate voices. There is Eldritch's inhuman voice from the album version, with the typical otherworldly low pitch, and his voice from the 1985 live performance at the Royal Albert Hall, an octave higher. The latter also features Wayne Hussey's voice.
Thanks a lot Dave! One guy accused me of blasphemy for doing this, saying that the originals can't be touched, that there is a reason no one has ever remixed them, that the originals had no synths, that Marian's tempo is slower.... Well, the originals are certainly masterpieces. I used guitars and vocals from both the studio and live versions of Marian, the tempo is the same as the live version of Marian, and Robert Smith's sublime vocals come from the live version of Primary. The bass I used is actually a synth bass and I also used other synths in other parts, other unforgivable sins. So what can I say Dave.... I am very glad that you liked it and that you like it more and more with each listen, but..... know that it is blasphemous!😂
@@matt_one I Dj out in this scene and I think folk are more open to me layering stems and isolated retro parts over more electronic modern backing tracks. I think we're at the point where the punters have no idea as to what they're listening whether it be live mash-ups or official remixes. As long as it works musically and has the right production values for today's club sound systems (ala your re-bass) folk are now more accepting. A typical dark scene club in London has a mixed demographic of Trad goths and the younger generation coming through, eventually, the baton will be passed over and superior production values will win out. I will definitely play your Marian/Primary mix based on It's fat on the bottom end and it musically works... SIMPLE! And thats coming from a huge Sisters/Cure fan.
@dave_demix Thank you again very much for your words of appreciation! I am also very happy to hear that the sound is decent, as I am not a professional and my mixing and mastering skills are absolutely beginner-like. Thanks a lot Armin, my real name is Luca. Two days ago I subscribed to your channel, listened entirely to 11 of your songs for which I dutifully created a personal playlist. Of course in time I will add the others as I listen to them.... I haven't listened to such dreamy, dark and addictive music in a long time! I particularly like your use of synth pads. I really couldn't say which of these I liked best, they are all beautiful. To mention two, I would say ‘Black Saturday’, the first one I listened to, and ‘What about the forest’. Really beautiful music!
@@matt_one Thank you so much indeed Luca ::: i really Appreciate it !!! It´s Amazing to find so Brilliant Musicians with massive Incredible Ideas like you !!Really, Well done Luca, well done : Go for it !!😀
Jeez, only just listening to this but feel it could've been done 30 odd years ago and was a stormer then. It's bloody fantastic! It holds music vivid memories that never were. It's enchanting and mesmerising. Marvellous Marvellous
Using Marian as the chorus to The Primary is pure genius! This would have put Helter Skelter into a tailspin back in the 90's. Every Goth would have been dancing the ghost with me.
It is certainly an interesting point of view.... one might also think that Primary was used as a verse to Marian. In the end it changes little. I read your comment with real joy and thank you very much for posting it!
Yes! Now I want a goth club in my town. The one from my youth was called ‘Sanctuary’ in Sydney. There was also ‘Stranded’ a New Wave/New Romantic club that this would’ve been perfect for.

Wow, listening to this in the bath just before dawn in Australia. An amazing. soaring track. Over 40 years the Cure are my enduring favourite & I remember dancing to Kraftwerk at obscure clubs in the 80s. Happy memories. Earlier I watched Robert’s recent interview (in Abbey Rd studio) …really interesting insight into the brilliant & complex workings of his mind & creativity, all served with his quirky humour

"There is no publicly known confirmation that "Marian" refers to a real person in Eldritch’s life. Instead, it's widely believed to be a fictional or symbolic character representing broader themes like despair, alienation, or salvation." (ChatGPT 4o)
"The use of German lyrics in "Marian" enhances the song’s haunting atmosphere and aligns with Andrew Eldritch’s fascination with German culture and language. It also adds a layer of complexity and depth to the lyrics, making the song resonate on a different level for listeners familiar with both languages." (ChatGPT 4o)
The Sisters of Mercy have always been somewhat gloomy. It was said of The Cure: If you listen to too much of it, you can no longer cross a bridge without falling off it 😇

"Kannst Du mich schreien hören, Marian?" Marian was released in 1985. Album: First and Last and Always
"There is no publicly known confirmation that "Marian" refers to a real person in Eldritch’s life. Instead, it's widely believed to be a fictional or symbolic character representing broader themes like despair, alienation, or salvation." (ChatGPT 4o)

Marian
Marian, there's a weight above me
And the pressure is all too strong
To breathe deep
Breathe long and hard
To take the water down and go to sleep
To sink still further
Beneath the fatal wave
Marian I think I'm drowning
This sea is killing me
[Chorus]
Was ich kann und was ich konnte (What I can do and what I could do)
Weiß ich gar nicht mehr (I just don't know anymore)
Gib mir wieder etwas Schönes (Give me something beautiful again)
Zieh mich aus dem Meer (Drag me from the sea)
Ich hör dich rufen Marian (I hear you calling Marian)
Kannst du mich schreien hören (Can you hear me calling?)
Ich bin hier allein (I am here alone)
Ich hör dich rufen Marian (I hear you calling Marian)
Ohne deine Hilfe verlier ich mich in diesem Ort
(Without your help I am lost in this place)
[Chorus]
