The vanguard are not mercs. They were a part of the Union military. They were the vanguard to new planets. Use slower speeds and cryo sleep to arrive at new worlds and set up the infrastructure for the gates that allowed true ftl. That is why they have the people to set up a spciety and are the part of the Union best equipped to survive they were built to tame frontier world. If you want penguins and animals run an amazon campaign they get an operation to take control of any tier 1-2 animal units. And remember animal units evolve when they hit prime ranks.
I honestly think this would be an interesting series to watch and see you grow your galactic empire while playing with the other factions and content throughout all the dlcs and main game.
Love the vids and streams shack! EDF last night was CrAzY. Super fun times Mcgee. Been watching for almost 3 years now, hope for many more than that to come!
The original combat in Age of Wonders, was a lot better than the newer games where you barely have a squad. They should of kept the army size of made it bigger not smaller.
If you're still playing Freelancer, you should check out The Nomad Legacy mod. It only has five story missions so far, but they are completely scripted with dialogs and space cutscenes. The game also plays very differently from the original: there's fewer weapon variations, but ship tuning gained a lot of depth and the enemies are deadly.
Very good review. I have on Steam the Age of Wonders Planetfall Premium which has all DLCs and Star Kings is very good expansion. I'm replaying the game again and nice to see population is there when I check on Steam.
The city building in this isn't as hardcore as other 4x with focus more on the world strategy element. You're not juggling a million special resources and worrying about cultural influence systems. It meets the depth of Civ and Xcom style gameplay pretty square in the middile.
Basic knights round tables plus paladins of charlemagne in spaces. But instead of being people/humans their these mechanic knight ,and mechanic hybrid knights
It's a really fun game. With the galactic empire mechanic the single player finally gets some much needed progression and the multiplayer seems plenty active. There is a great discord server you can access through the subreddit, everyone there is super helpful and friendly.
I really agree with your complaints about the sound design. One of the things XCOM really succeeds in is having weighty sounds for combat actions, but comparatively it feels like AoW is using pool noodles. It's one of the main reasons I have yet to buy the game. Sad to see they haven't improved it since launch :/
To be honest this seems like a bit of a step back from Age of Wonders 3, but maybe that's just me having liked the fact that it was sort of fantasy civ with more engaging combat. Both AoW games seem to rather lack in any serious diplomatic or industry based focuses, but the combat mostly carried 3 for me, I'd just end up getting too spread out and ganked by the AI more often than not though, since they had nothing else to focus on besides combat either.
oh boy the 1356th dlc for age of wonder is out! its only costs 9000 dollars to get all the dlc with the steam sale! jokes aside these devs make an ungodly ammount of DLC for their games which is great for replaying but when you come back to it its a huge hassle if you wanna just get everything updated for playing with freinds.
Not quite sure I follow. They do three expansions for each of their games, and you can currently get the full package for £30 on Steam as a launch sale.
@@ChromeDrakeGaming im talking the older titles as for age of wonder planetfall we are just getting started with the DLC. I Stumbled on some of their older games and the combined price was legit more than the base game.
@@GutsOfRivia No they didn't. Age of Wonders had multiple iterations but never had "1356" DLCs nore a "combined price legit more than the base game". And why talk about the old ones since it's a Planetfall video ? Take also into account that the devs put a lot of new content in patches which are totally free and often gamechanging.
@@Cowkill age of wonder 3 went to the steam page and yep thats a big price tag. Call it what you will but those are DLC . Plus im just makin a joke never said it was a bad thing. Sorry I somehow offended you but chill man. its a plantetfall video but Im making a small joke at the expense of the devs for as laugh. lets not get our anus in a twist over it.
The Prometheans aren't ethnic cleansers or anything like that if that's what you're thinking, they're anti-biohazard/HAZMAT specialists, they use futuristic napalm equivalents to sterilise Xenoplague infestations, other biological hazards and extremely-hostile wildlife from worlds to protect colonists. I'd say that could fit very well with the whole "questing paladin" archetype, given IRL Knights were often big fans of hunting, plus history/myth is rife with Knights going on quests to slay monsters and dangerous beasts. So the futuristic Paladins of the Oathbound taking up Promethean arms to purge Xenoplague bioweapons, Kir'ko Brood Swarms, Psynumbra cults and all other manner of nastiness is hardly a stretch by any means of the imagination.
Cowkill And even then, there are still reasons why an Oathbound character might use Psynumbra tech, perhaps they're trying to figure out how it works and thereby how best to fight it? Maybe they believe in an velvet glove/iron fist approach to rule where if you behave you live in luxury but the moment you cause trouble the entire system crushes you in punishment. Perhaps the Oathbound Lord's simply insane.

Yoooo I love this game. I'm glad to see you got sponsored by them.
Amazon and Kir' Ko are best, I love them so much. They've been my fav since day one
My favourite psy kirko build was nerfed through the dirt but it absolutely deserved it

Hey Shack. Don't know if I'm way out of sync but what happend to the Age of Rebellion tabletop game?

The War on Penguins begins

SHACK wheres the EOTE I'm hooked on your story and have introduced some of your home rules like snap roll and wonder if you have any other cool tips?
What happened to Ages of the Federation?
So at the moment both my saves are broken. Crash on load. I'm still hoping I can get a fix. So far no luck.

It's got built in mod support I'm sure someone will do it, or already has
Not to sound impatient, or even a jerk, but when are you gonna make the next part to space engineers group survival? Just asking.
I would almost be willing to pay for at least 8 of 30 dlc for hearts of Iron if they made an RTS/turn base combat system lol.

Shouldn't be able to do the new race with promethean. Literally contradictory to be a p as ladin aka good guy who is an exterminator aka bad guy
