I totally agree with Mang0 on the tournaments. As a viewer I very often dont know when tournaments are coming even though I watch a lot of sets/smash content.
I feel like Zain needs the angel of ken to descend upon him, pat him on the shoulder, and say "You don't have to win. Just play by feel, you don't gotta push so hard during the set." He'd start winning 100% more tourneys I guarantee it.
For Amsa, That's the same argument for Rafael Nadal. Nobody has practice against Lefties But almost EVERY player he plays against is right-handed so he has an advantage from that standpoint.
I was listening to a podcast interviewing Hikaru and he was saying he had a super long session against Magnus, and he was saying how playing him that much hurt his career in the long run by giving Magnus the chance to learn his play style. Found that relevant to when Mang0 was saying Zain and Cody play too much 🤔
Yeah, Cody often openly says he’s only that good against zain because he practiced a lot with him, I think zain just has a lot of integrity and wants to challenge himself and improve the players around him
@@netplayfalco7307 I did that with a buddy of mine, just built my style to counter what he liked to do, he played a more unique peach. If Puff was easy to play, Juan wouldn't be the only one in the upper echelon of Melee with her. You have other good players, but they just aren't even close to his level.
Mango and a lot of top players say it, hbox is actually really good. Not a lot of people point it out but his spacing and overall decision making is matched by no puff. It’s just that he sometimes makes bad mistakes which gets amplified because you are playing a floatie like puff and he doesn’t do puff tech that other puff players and even players who don’t main puff can execute

I'm curious on where most of the pro's in Melee fall as far as the mortality of using/abusing Adderall/Vyvanse to increase focus is. To my knowledge Adderall helps you to concentrate on tasks that you generically struggle with/have a hard time focusing on, and with Melee I doubt that is a problem. Would that not the be equivalent of steroids in pro gaming?
Steroids are bad because they're illegal in SOME sports. As long as gaming doesn't make addy illegal, I don't think it can be compared. Caffeine is also performance enhancing. It's up to each org to decide their own boundary
@@fangiscool1 Well given that Melee is pretty grassroots and doesn't have much money flowing through it to begin with I wouldn't expect any testing to be put in place because it wouldn't be possible to enforce them financially. I guess I'm just curious how the players who don't use/abuse it feel whenever they take the L to someone who does. Especially at the top level currently, given how many pros have talked about how close everything is competitively right now.
Unless you have ADHD, be careful man. I used to take addy to become a God at any game I played. Then I started taking them to help with school too. Then to be more productive in general. Before long, I was a full-blown addict and getting off them was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. The withdrawals were awful and I didn’t feel any positive emotions doing regular day things for over a year (dopamine receptors had to adjust).
@@RetroEternal i can't believe i got prescribed the stuff when i was 10. stimulants are insane, and they seem to be more popular and encouraged than ever these days.
Melee needs a fresh format. Being grass roots is cool, but getting new ppl in usually involves something more official than stray collection of events.
After 21 years of getting punched in the dick by Nintendo, it is a testament to the grassroots scene that this game is not only surviving but thriving. Grassroots is all we have!!! I'm sure next year will be better.
@@vadersnemesis First is consistency. Something weekly that can capture the small events in one stream. A monthly big tournament that everyone will tune in for. Something to cap off the season like mlg used to or the international style championships for more modern games. Put it under a single stream brand. The biggest thing is ranked netplay. Until that gets going, getting new players is a tough sell for a lot of people. I used to be heavily involved with events in the local scene and traveled the US for big tourneys, but now because of where I work, it's hours to anything decent so I've cut smash for some time since netplay is kind of pointless for me atm.
@@berekexer8158 Smash World Tour tried/is trying to do that, though Covid, Nintendo, and other issues have made it tough. But also this format of having a bunch of stray events works for golf and tennis so I don't think it's necessarily a problem. Being grassroots was necessary for Melee's survival, and while it puts a cap on the scale of events it can have, it has made it incredibly resilient in a way that other e-sports aren't. If this "single stream brand" were to fold or pull their money away it would take the grassroots stuff to put the pieces back together
