Hello, boys! Glad y'all are loving some Unleash the Archers! To clarify, the movie you were thinking of was a Greek mythology movie -- something like Jason and the Argonauts, Immortals, or the movie that had Perseus fighting Medusa (I believe that one had Sam Smith play Perseus). That being said, I've never heard Awakening referred to as an anime theme song before -- but it fits, given Awakening is the first song on the Apex and Abyss albums that tell an entire story from beginning to end. Awakening is basically Chapter 1. Now, if you want to hear some music that could be battle music, check out Ten Thousand Against One, The Matriarch, The Coward's Way, Soulbound, and The Wind That Shapes The Land (which sounds like the final fight between Neo and Smith in The Matrix movies). A couple of other songs I listen to that I highly recommend for battle music: 1) Iron, Within Temptation 2) Together We Rise, Wind Rose 3) Cover: Warriors of the World Unite, Feuerschwanz (Original by ManowaR)
It's called vocalization Britney uses multiple vocal layers on top of the main vocal line she calls it her "choir of Britney's" very well used and as someone who has seen them live (actually just about a week ago) she doesn't need the layers they are just extra badassery to really make the album version slap. The really cool thing about the album this song is off of (and the album they released next as well) it's a story. The immortal is the main character and who Britney is portraying as vocalist, this is the first song off the album Apex and this song details the immortal being awakened from his slumber in a mountain by the villain The Matriarch. The immortal is tied to some divine covenant that whoever wakes him controls him and he must do their bidding. For the album Apex the matriarch tasks the immortal with finding her sons and bringing them to her so she can perform a blood ritual to become immortal herself (though without the servitude). The second album is a continuation of the first albums story where the immortal is now tasked with defeating the Matriarch
They're from Canada so of course they're chill. Watch a live performance on stage and you'll see a different beast. BTW. since you're Brits you'll appreciate this. Brittney played Rugby all through high school and university, so when it comes to riding a charger into battle, while waving a sword, you'll be following Brittney. She is a classically trained singer and that opening belt was a typical power metal wail, but with real power.
If you haven't explored much of this genre, you really should go back to the granddaddy of them all and check out Ronnie James Dio. Specifically, I think you'd enjoy 'Stargazer', done with the group Rainbow. It's from the 70s, so it's not as hard as this, but yeah. Also, not judging by any means, but that leather jacket would look a LOT better without the barcode sticker. ;)
Haha! Love you guys! Britney Slayes is a classically trained singer so the belt at the start is defo real. And, spot-on re influences; her hero is Bruce Dickinson, the singer of Iron Maiden. I see lots of great suggestions for more like this in the comments but I'd add my weight to Cleanse the Bloodlines - about a sorceress who must kill her 3 sons to gain immortality - and, if you want more of that epic feel; Afterlife. Want any suggestions for Megadeth? I reckon you might like the instrumental Into the Lungs of Hell. Another epic one! Also, Peace Sells - about the hypocrisy of power and war, and Holy Wars - about imperialism and the Middle East. Enjoy, and peace!
"I feel like I'm riding a horse, with a drawn sword." Granted it's paraphrased, but perfect description of Power Metal. It's supposed to feel huge and epic! Great stuff gents!

I'm drawn to the creature that wakes me, bound to them by the curse
My soul exists only to serve, a covenant of birth
Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here
Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night

Come to me, awakening

SELF, sophomore Jinx. You won't regret it.
You guys seem like you would be way into Gloryhammer and BABYMETAL with their epic theatrics and musicianship.
Go half-time...take my sub
the genre you're looking for is "power metal" or "symphonic metal" ;)
Check out time will go on
Excellent reaction, gentlemen. I personally am not a fan of power metal/fantasy prog rock, but these guys are ok. I'm not sure if you're ready for something harder, but being a drummer, you may enjoy Tomas Haacke from Meshuggah. May I suggest "Clockworks" or "Bleed", the live drum cam play through? The syncopation and polyrhythms Tomas Haacke writes is insane!
Gojira!!!
Clash of the Titans!
That's the movie you were trying to think of lol.
Do some Symphony X....kings of prog/power metal
