    VIEWERS NOTE WELL!!! I have played for 40+ years and I thought I would be able to play Jimis version easy enough. When I saw another UA-cam station on how to play this song I dived in. I kept at it for two solid months and became very disheartened at not being able to play it even though I know I’m capable of it. So I searched and found 12 Foot Chain. And wow!!! 🤩 What a HUGE IMPROVEMENT. In the very opening segment the tutor explains Jimis guitar is tuned down a half tone AND he uses an OPEN E string in the key of C sharp minor. So I retuned my guitar and I nailed this solo in a single session. It restored my confidence and faith in my ability because I knew I could play it. I wasted 2 months on that other Channel (Marty’s Music) which doesn’t mention any of these facts and also it makes no sense the way he played it in C minor standard tuning. I’m stoked I found 12 foot chain and suggest you all stop looking elsewhere and stick with the dude who knows what he is doing. Also, a big lesson for me is that some UA-camrs are fakers and make big mistakes so BEWARE!!! Thank you 12 Foot Chain 👍👍👍👍🤩

    This is one of the most cinematic songs I have ever heard. Every time I hear the Hendrix cover, it triggers a movie in my head replete with all the characters, the landscape, etc.-it is not the only Hendrix song that does that to me. It is an amazing gift to use a guitar to sculpt moving pictures in the listeners mind-I don’t think they teach that at Julliard

    Many teachers claim “note for note” on how to play a song, but never cover it completely. You sir are the closest to Jimi I have heard for this song, particularly when you play the solo. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Cheers! 👍👍

    Such a great lesson!! There's tons of lessons on this classic but you have really got these leads precise! I've tried learning this song in the past but when I play it, it just doesn't sound correct. I even went as far as to "TRY" and learn this with my guitar strung for a lefty, lol!! Thank you for taking the time to learn it and being as close as you possibly can to sounding like Jimi without being Jimi!! Your format or style of teaching is really quite easy and comfortable to follow along to without getting frustrated. I look forward to more of your videos and have a happy new year 2024!! Aloha!!

    This bloody song has driven me nuts for a lifetime ha ha! Honestly, it's only recently that I've been able to correctly hear the intro (starts on the "and" of beat 3) without the aid of a drum track/count-in from a play-along track or demo track.
    The next worst offender is The Who's Magic Bus (Jasus!!!!, I have a very strong Love/Hate relationship with that song Ha ha!) ... and of course there is Deep Purple's "Maybe I'm a Leo" which seems to morph into a completely different riff at the 13 second mark?!? I actually love that though, both riffs sound fantastic! (I hear the intro as starting on the "down" beat of one, but then the correct riff appears to me at the 13 second mark as actually starting on the "and" of beat one!)
    Anyway, enough of that twaddle,; Fantastic work as always, Mr. Chain!

    On the songs I ve seen , You always do an INCREDIBLE JOB
    I play Bass but I like to know what the Lead guitar is doing , so if I can add to it if it is possible in the right place . On some songs I do part of vocal line while keeping the low end , usually with CCM on sunday morning.
    We usually do 5 different songs every week, we do not repeat songs every week . I was saving songs in Binders unto I had over 300 , now I don't save them . Been playing 43 yrs.

    • @12footchain
      @12footchain  Місяць тому

      No idea which scale, sorry. I think of it in terms of an e pentatonic but I know he hits some notes thar are outside of that scale. And by E I mean in terms of position on the neck since I think he's tuned down a 1/2 step

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 Місяць тому

      @@12footchain, Lets just say Hendrix turned to standard E to make it easier. The intro chords are C# minor to B Major to A major, with a pedal-tone note of the High E ringing out. The intro solo lick is at the 9th fret BOX#1 E Major pentatonic or E Mixolydian?

  • @jakollee
    @jakollee 2 роки тому

    Nice lesson, but I wish you had talked about the timing on the intro solo. It’s quite tricky because the “one” beat is not where you think it is, and if you count it wrong, it feels like there’s an extra beat before the verse starts.

    • @12footchain
      @12footchain  2 роки тому +1

      You're right, didn't even think of that. Starts on the "3 and" , right?

    • @jakollee
      @jakollee 2 роки тому

      @@12footchain yes! But I find it’s very hard to “hear” it with all that’s going on during the intro, including what sounds sort of like kettle drums! It’s actually easier to hear the timing on the live version at Isle of Wight.

    • @dwl231
      @dwl231 2 роки тому +1

      Excellent point! At 71 years old now I have NEVER been able to pick the start point, and I am to this day hearing on the wrong side of the beat. The beginning of “I’m Free” on Tommy did the same thing to me until one day way back I got it. As a lifelong guitar player this has always driven me crazy about All Along The Watchtower… I can play the notes in my sleep, but the timing is always wrong until the song gets going.
