  • Engineering Manager Eric Wood talks with Bryan O'Fallon about all of the features that have been changed on the newly released UMC-750 and 750SS. Highlighted by a new operator door and available HSK spindle, Eric also addressed issues like user friendliness, increased performance, better chip evacuation, rotary crash worthiness, and much more.
    The new UMC-750 is in production now for the US/CAN regions and we are planning for Q2 release in Europe and the rest of the world.
    Check out the new UMC-750 here on the Haas website:

      @@vincelombardi2669 I'm pretty sure the dmu is over 2x the price. I think the cmx line (economy) are almost twice the price. What's the price for a dmu? The UMC is ~160k

      We're a 3 person job shop typically doing under 5 qty and down to .001", the old UMC750 design has been doing great for us. If it were running like your DMG's I don't think it'd be making y'all happy.

    I love HAAS's use of stove elements for dynamic braking resistors (I assume for the spindle / servos) beautiful use of a cheap alternative to high wattage resistors. (In the box with the heat warning symbol on top of the control cabinet @2:11)

    Nice to see the all of the improvements that were brought in with the UMC-1000 have finally trickled down to the UMC-750. The cycloidal drives in the B & C axes are a big improvement and are a lot cheaper to replace in the event of a failure. By the way, the roof has been standard on the UMC-750 for 2 years.

      I got a fully blinged out 750 the refreshed model and Its a hell of a machine. Rapids are fast and surface finish is superb. I'm sure a DMG would be better but this thing can do 90% of what a DMG can at half the price.

    I really, really, really hate the old giant door. I understand why it was built that way for certain applications, but it was actually a large factor of the decision against buying one. The ergonomics on this are much improved.

    Was the casting in the prototype phase when NYC CNC did their factory tour, and there was a red coated casting for a prototype UMC?
    Around 21:49 of the tour video, you can see the 50 tool tc, and the elongated spindle 'collar'.

    • @zachramsden9549
      @zachramsden9549 4 роки тому +1

      Why not just use the fork lift? We’ve put 700lb parts in our nakamura tome lathes no problem with the fork lift. I imagine anything too heavy for the fork lift would be too heavy for the machine anyway.

    • @inuyashacoolieo
      @inuyashacoolieo 4 роки тому +2

      @@zachramsden9549 it's just not as convenient. Especially when the machine is in a tight area where it's hard/impossible to get the forklift. Also if you have several heavy parts to run and you only have one forklift you don't want to be tying down the forklift all day. We have overhead cranes which makes swapping vises and loading materials easy and quick.

    I was just wondering that if it was possible to get the control floating and remove the corner behind the control and make it a door/transparent window, so you have more access to the work area and more visibility and the work area has access from two complete sides ?

  • @srenstrmandersen8531
    @srenstrmandersen8531 4 роки тому

    These are indeed very nice improvements. The redesigned door and relocating of the controller is very nice. IMO the previous postion was annoying.
    I was wondering if the redesign includes an option to add a spindle cooling system? At work we have a UMC750, and the spindle does really heat up. The heating result in 0,05 mm extension on the Z-axis after a couple of hours running at 8000 rpm. That causes problems when we make our molds.
    When running the through spindle coolant the UMC 750 have a long time of releasing the pressure before a tool change, whenever i use small drills. Does the redesigned version have som sort of valve to quickly release the pressure from the through spindle coolant?
    Sorry if i'm difficult to understand. English isn't my native language.

  • @davidb6576

    What is the amount of "droop" at the spindle between full plus and minus extension of the "Y" axis? How is it compensated for or designed around to minimize geometric errors at the part?

    • @majorbigpain1
      @majorbigpain1 4 роки тому

      Doesn't look like it. By them making the door smaller it took any possibility of using a crane. You could use a counter balance crane system to reach inside and drop off your material. But it will just be a pain.

    I assume the linear rail and truck upgrades are to reduce the machine jittering with the y axis at the y- extent? I cringe at the thought of no crane access. That table will be chewed up in no time from lazy operators sliding parts off the forklift. The coolant tank and control panel should have been standard from the start. Rolltech Innovation manufactures machine coolant saver. Serious threats to productivity and health are bacteria and fungi which are commonly found in industrial coolants. This coolant bacteria filter has some advantageous features include: last a life time, with guarantee of extended life of coolant with bacteria filter - no consumables, no electricity, no chemical dosing, etc.
    It is a one time investment, ROI within 4-6 Months, Saves on input of fresh oil and disposal cost like etp treatment, or giving it to authorised recycler.
    These mineral oil based coolant are prone to generation of bacteria which produces foul odour, often from hydrogen sulfide [rotten egg smell].
    Rolltech Innovation "Aqualogic" filter is an innovative and economical method of continuously controlling these micro organisms and the odour they generate. "Aqualogic" bacteria coolant filter consists of series of high-purity multi-metal fibres cased within a stainless steel tube. the dissimilar ions in the multimetal alloy bed undergo a natural electrochemical reaction, also known as an oxidation-reduction reaction. Which Kills the all the Microbial activity in the coolant 24/7
