    Garden fork,
    You remind me of my uncle buck. Very handy diy type person. I understood your project and you have made major improvements from what you started with. I have read a lot of the comments and most agree you did fine. I have a long background in engineering, machine design, and maintenance. Sure there is room for improvement. There almost always is. But you have done just fine with what you had. If you want to make changes like you did with the wooden top that is good, but just remember to walk before you run

  • @Deathbomb9

    Drawer liner is about 12-20 dollars and you get like 10ft of it. One roll is good for 8-10 drawers. It's also tacky so it sticks to the drawer if cut to size. Custom cut ones are expensive. The rolls of it are cheap, and I'll be honest, better for using in your tool box than a yoga mat. If you just have some tools it's great. You dont plan on investing a lot into your tools and just need a place to toss them where you can have then organized, dont really use them that much, have HF and walmart sets, that's great. As for the idea of magnets to hold tools you can get sheet metal bins that do the same and you have no worry of having them all collapse to the floor from a bump. Clamps can also go on the handle or a paper towel holder that can handle the weight.

    Harbor fright has a magnetic power strip for sale and you can put a folding tray on the back side for more space from harbor freight. Also where did you get the big magi net from? One more thing you cam mount a thin magnet on the side of that folding tray to hold tools.

    A better idea than the magnet is a pegboard. Magnets pickup metal grinding dust and metal chips. Power strip is mounted where it will get bumped into and possibly broken. Would be better mounted on the recessed area.

  • @davidlawrence9978
    @davidlawrence9978 4 роки тому +5

    Hey Eric. Thanks for your videos. I really enjoy relating to your process. Anyway, A couple of thoughts about this particular video... For the butcher block top hack, it looks like the bolts that you chose to hold down the vise, are slimmer than the holes. If there's any slack, eventually the vise may slide around, which is not something you want to happen when you're trying to hold your work securely. It's better to use bolts that fit the holes, and not use washers under the head. Also, to prevent the butcher block itself from sliding around, try leaving the black rubber pad between the sheetmetal top and the butcher block. The extra surface friction really helps things stay put. Also, where you added the two extra screws to hold down the butcher block on the left side, consider countersinking the screw heads and covering them with a wooden plug; or temporarily remove all the drawers so you can get access to use shorter wood screws from underneath, to attach the butcher block. Either way, you avoid having the head of the screw gettiing in the way when you need a flat work surface, and you also avoid any scratches on your tools or work material that may be caused by the two screw heads. I loved the magnet hack, I do the same thing with my cart. Except I bought a magnetic knife rack from Ikea, that's little more than a large strip magnet. I don't even use the backing frame, I let the magnet and the cart have a direct relationship, and I can move it around as my storage needs evolve. I also store my magnetic levels on the other side of the cart - I have four. One last thought, regarding the power strip idea. I saw how you hung it on the front edge, with the cable flopping back over the handle, getting in the way, and potentially knocking tools off the magnetic strip.. Maybe consider mounting it cable side down, on the back edge of that side. Then, at Home Depot or Lowes, find a large magnetic coat hook, large enough to hold your coiled extension cord, and hang it on the back of the cart, where it's out of the way. Hope you like my suggestions.
    Cheers,
    David

    On your drawers, if you want to remove them, I think, with the drawer all the way open, lift up the front edge, then pull out. Practice on a empty drawer.

      That vise has only THREE bolt holes in the base, as do most bench vises. There is a reason for this! The proper way to mount a bench vise is "Close enough to the edge such that the stationary jaw face overhangs the edge." This is done so that a long piece can stand vertically in front of the bench while held in the Vise.
