      I don't disagree.. when I heard about the story I thought this is crap.. for some reason I played it.. got it free for the monthly thing. First 30min is slow.. but somehow kept me going.. then I just sort of found myself wanting to play it and keep going. I ended the game really liking it. It's a shame many will not play it because of the idea of what you think it will be like is bad.

      @@kattastic9999 oh believe me I'm very upset that forbidden West is still a PlayStation exclusive and will probably take a few years to make it to PC. I played zero Dawn for the first time on my PS4 back in 2017 on a Redbox rental and I fell in love with the game and then after I sold my PS4 and got a PC I was really sad because I thought I'd never get the chance to play it again but when it released on epic I bought it in a heartbeat and have played it to death and back on New game Plus on the hardest difficulty. Again I don't think it's a bad game at all but I think it is really repetitive and stale to see so many games adopting the same formula without bringing anything new or unique or innovative to the table, but that's why I only play a few of those titles. For someone like Yahtzee who has to play all the big releases in order to stay relevant as a game critic to the masses I can see things like zero Dawn and forbidden West being so tiresome, but that's why he said it's me not you LOL

    The best way I've heard HZD described is that it is the "Singularity" of open-world games. It doesn't pretend to be any different from what was done in the past, but rather takes what worked the best in those games and puts it together really well.
    Another way that I've heard it put that I also like, considering most of you haven't heard of "Singularly", is it's better version of "Far Cry Primal".

      Yeah, I just don't buy it. It seems like fake, internet drama. The games are similar, sure, and both very very good, but there are huge differences, too. First off, as mentioned, they are exclusives to their respective consoles, and I don't know about you, but I have a steady job, and I'm not about to shell out for both a Switch and a PS4 Pro. (yet). Also, HZD is very story-driven, whereas Zelda is kinda like "Eh, you know the plot, we'll include some optional cut scenes if you want, but whatever, save the princess blah blah blah". They will probably duke it out for Game of the Year, but other than that, I think they can live in harmony

      Dizz2K7 Okay, lets go again since you still dont understand what Im saying. We see her as a kid when she was about 6 yo, and she has some minor interactions with some other people. No, that wouldnt make you a sociable person, but AGAIN, do you really think those are the only people she talked to her ENTIRE life? Im sure she’s met other people while hunting and talked to them, after all, many people in the tribe recognize her from when she was an outcast, surely some of them where willing to break the rules and talk to her? Im also 100% sure she’s seen other people talking to each other. Of course it wouldn’t make her the most social person, and she isn’t. And let’s be thankful the devs didnt make her an awkward blob, that would be painful to watch. Oh, and the focus: early on we see a video on it, she definitely saw more as she was growing up and probably saw how people behave?

      To be quite honest, the arrows definitely careen in random directions albeit to my benefit. It's not quite like far cry where you carefully account for the arc of the arrow and the movement of your target. Especially being after Breath of the Wild I could see where he wasn't adapted to it. Arrows seem to correct themselves mid-flight as long as you lined up before you let loose.

    • @danielegvi
      @danielegvi 4 роки тому +20

      @@Alter292 Arrows in this game are super weird, though there is a method to the madness. You're not supposed to lead your shots. Instead, you're supposed to fire your arrow while the circle is on top of whatever your target is. If done right, then your arrow will automagically correct its course midflight. If the game decides you're too far away from your target, then it just fires your arrow normally, with drop and a slight accuracy penalty. You can indeed hit moving targets far away with the sharpshot bow if you lead your shots properly.
      The problem is that there is no indication whatsoever on how the arrow will fire. It is super weird, and kinda breaks the immersion, but gameplay wise, it is something you can definitely get better at.

    I was at first turned off from this game because I didn't like running through a big world having to figure out what to stop and pick up all the time. Then I found out you just pick up everything, dump what you have too much of, and fuel up again when you run low. I never ran low on twigs but ran low on wires all the time - I like those tougher arrows. I also like that being able to blow pieces off machines or throw off weird effects on them was just a matter of buying a bow, rather than customizing your character to some specific degree. On the plus side, the more advanced bows offer multiple effects, making you able to prep for 90% of any fights with one specific loadout of weapons in your dial, with the option to switch things a little for occasionally doing something more specific and to your tastes. But it would have been nice to set that expectation earlier in the game, because when a game looks complex and kind of boring at the beginning, I won't be playing very long to find out if it gets any better. The mechanic of knowing where stalking creatures will walk, which you learn very early on, came into actual play maybe 3 times in the course of playing the game. The game lacked a good beginning hook, but when I finally got down to playing it, I would say I'm glad I did.

    Don't know if they patched the aiming or the melee attacks but the issues described, I haven't experienced in my July playthroughs.
    Specifically, no trouble with ranged weapons hit detection (you become very accurate with a long bow draw and time-slowing mode, less accurate with quick shots or multiple arrows), and controlling the direction & timing of the melee attacks becomes second nature. The only gripe I have is that the slow attack is too easily interrupted, but given that most hostiles telegraph everything they do it's just a matter of learning their moves.
    Anyway, on my second playthrough on Ultra Hard mode I'm mostly just either making them fight each other, or roping down the monsters and bombing them to death. This works even better with the big ones, you rope them down, tear their cannons off and kill them with their own guns, saving on bomb ammo. It's a totally overpowered strategy. Someone should've told Yahtzee that roping was how to deal with the damn flying bastards too.

      Well I mean playstations player base is like 4 times the size of the wiiu? And the switch just released, so of course the ps4 exclusive will sell more. Question to ask yourself is whether horizon would still be doing as well if zelda was a ps4 exclusive as well instead. hypothetical situation, but it's really the only way they can accurately compete. Or you somehow make a controlled environment where a few thousand gamers who aren't fanboys pick which game they would rather play given the information from gaming media reviews etc. But there's honestly no reason both games are fantastic anyone who says otherwise are dongers. Its honestly up to opinion on which game is better, but I would say the player bases don't have that big of a player lap so that doesn't really matter either. But at the end of the day zelda botw will most likely still receive GOTY over horizon zero dawn just because of the widespread perfect scores the game has gotten. You could argue that, but the people who ultimately decide GOTY's are disagreeing.

      Elisabet was uniquely qualified to handle it because she was the top robotics expert at the time who also worked alongside Sobek to create the green robots that cleaned the atmosphere and recreated unliveable environments, so she already had the experience of zero dawn on a smaller scale.
      Ted turned on everyone because he was a genius narcissist who considered himself smarter than the room, and anyone other than Elisabet, and without Sobek there to reign him in (the only person he listened to, due to their past history) decided on his he was smarter than everyone who said Apollo was a good idea.
      Rost was an outcast because his wife and child were killed by outcasts, and he decided to become a death seeker (suicide mission) so he could leave the Savard land to avenge them. They let him back in the sacred land as an outcast when he returned instead of killing him as custom dictated.
      Seriously, if you're going to whine about the story (which was actually really good) at least, Idk, follow the story? Funny you say you "guessed it immediately" but then are just blatantly wrong in your assumptions.

    I feel like this game can be appreciated on two levels. It can be appreciated for all the flash and glory of the world and shootable things in it. Yhatzee seemed to play it on this level but, being a jaded sod and right on the heels of other sandbox games was somewhat rightfully unimpressed. The second level though, which requires a lot more time investment if you don't just look it all up online, is the storytelling which actually is pretty well layered and IMO pretty excellent. Certainly better than many other games out there. It doesn't shove it in your face, suffer from agonizingly predictable linearity, or follow a single thread. It is easy to miss though, you can readily play the entire game without coming across or noticing much of it, so.....

    I don't really see a problem with the main character being named Aloy, as opposed to Re-Core's protagonist being named Joule, because there's actually a reason for Aloy being named Aloy. She was "born" in a tribe of people that effectively worship machines, it kind of makes sense that their naming conventions would be machine and metal based. It's also consistent with the rest of her tribe, like her "dad" Rost (Rust). It's not like Joule who just so happened to be named Joule and then chose to become someone that works with machines.

      The UA-cam release is always delayed a week from the actual launch on the Escapist (they want traffic on their website, rather than UA-cam, so they post ZP here a week late to try and entice the audience over to where all their other stuff is).

    I'm so glad he mentioned the atrocious name. It's a post apocalyptic game where technology and nature meet.....and it's name says nothing about it. Like it seems like they chose random cool sounding words and made that the title. Horizon Zero Dawn sounds like it could be any type of game....racing, FPS, Horror.

    • @Retinaplays
      @Retinaplays 7 років тому +2

      actually I think the name is pretty good. no, it doesn't say anything about the game UNTIL you play it. I think it's a nod to the Sun tribe taking over which means it's the Horizon. the Zero Dawn part would be that they don't live in the shadows of lie anymore? which means the MC finally gets answers to her questions? I may just be over thinking it....

    • @bigpistolman
      @bigpistolman 7 років тому

      If they wanted to name it after the Sun tribe taking over, a title like Sunrise would have been a lot easier to get. Also take out the zero all together and make the subtitle just "Dawn" if it's trying to reference "coming out of the shadows".

    How is that people are going around the comments saying they also don't understand the name of the game. The later part of the game LITERALLY tells you why. It repeats it so often that even if you weren't listening at first you're still bound to hear it 10 seconds later. It's also in writing on walls of one of the bunkers that you go in near end game.

      LateNightGaming - Halo News & Entertainment A lot of reviewers says it definitely borrows from other open world games by using the same tropes, but does it in a very unique and refreshing way. Figuring how to mount the enormous moving Tallnecks (or whatever they're called) and then scaling up them in order to reveal more of the map was one such example.

      SicParvisMagna123 but that's nothing special... you just jump on it and hold up and she automatically climbs it for you... it's just a radio tower that walks in tiny circles... what would be inventive is if the game DIDN'T have generic radio towers
