I'm a gm guy, but there's something extremely wholesome and rewarding about watching a fox body mustang with a 5.0 make respectable numbers.
The 5.0 foxbody runs soooooo good. Add some Flowmasters and the sound is heaven.
Please do additional videos on this setup. I'd love to see the old school style parts comparison. DO a ported Lower intake, larger TB, Good heads and top it off with a Holley EFI to get rid of that MAF and FMU.
I agree
I'm an classic import guy(70's Toyotas, Mazdas and Datsuns) but my son is a mustang guy. We pulled a 5.0 out of a field last summer and it's about half way ready to be road worthy. The pleasure I have in sharing this video with him is priceless! I hope this motivates him to get done with college and as soon as he gets his first real check from a good paying job he orders this super charger!! I mean he sold his PlayStation for a front bumper for his Fox!
Love the bit about selling the Playstation to get parts for his project car!
@@JimBronson I was surprised! It was when they were impossible to get. He said he wasn't playing much anymore and sold it sent me the money and asked to buy his front bumper and ship it to my house instead of his mom's so that she wouldn't know he was buying parts for his project car! It was priceless!!!!
Right on
@@johnlewis8156
They were impossible to get back around 2000-2005. I sold a few wrecked front bumpers for $300. The 6 piece headlight set took me years to gather; those were around $600 for the set. The GT "cheesegrater" tail lights were also impossible to find. That's why all the cool kids were adding LX lenses to their GT before APC started making theirs. I actually bought the 1st set (in California) of those fugly tail lights... I needed something to be road legal. I got rid of those as soon as I found a guy parting out a wrecked GT.
I still have it, don't drive it, miss it greatly. I have an 86 SVO also.
Love it !!!!! That a boy@@johnlewis8156
I do love watching these videos Richard. Keep them coming.
I have a lot of love for the Kenne Bell Blowzilla/Flowzilla inlet combo. Even with a stock lower, non intercooled on a mostly stock sn95, it was a ripper. Felt like a big block at the lower revs.
I feel like this is what Ford should have done in 1993. Our Australian Cobra engine, the one with the Showa G52 intake, and built to Cobra spec by Watsons, made 280 flywheel SAE net HP and 220 rwhp with a T5 and 7.8 inch axle on 245 tires. Listed as 274 HP DIN net. The baseline looks the same. Great test.
Pulling that old 5.0 intake off was like a flashback. Cool kit looks easy and pnp
My thoughts exactly when I watched this. My first thought was ‘I can’t believe it’s been 20 yrs since I worked on an old 5.0 Stang’
That thing made almost exactly the HP and TQ of my old 88 GT from back in the mid 90's. I made 226rwhp/282 rwtq. Oh the memories.
must of had mods
@@richardholdener1727 the basics. Cold air intake, pullies, catted h pipe and exhaust, bumped the timing, ditched the PS. Dynoed at Brothers in Corona by Joe way back then. Ran 12.9x's all day long on slicks at Pomona street legals.
Great video Richard. Would love to see more KB 5.0 content in the future!
Some potential topics to dive into: starting the dyno pull a little lower so we can see the effect on low-end torque, absolute air density tradeoff between non-intercooled IATs and boost, thoughts on the decrease in runner length (since a good portion of that comes from the "wraparound" upper intake with the giant 180 degree bend) versus boost, and the boost curve.
I would think Losing the bend was a good thing since it makes so much more torque and short is good for hp which is what is needed with this type of blower
Richard, thanks for the review. I seen KB brought these back and great to see a current review. I’ve been running a Blowzilla on my 306 for 4 years now with smiles for miles. It sat on a shelf for 9 years waiting for the car of choice. If only KB would have engineered an intercooler setup for it. I’m running meth injection to help the AITs but think a cooler would be better overall. HCI setup with “Explorer” intake, 90mm TB & MAF, typical LT header exhaust through a T5 trans and 9lbs of boost puts 420 hp/ 502 tq to the rears all day long running AC with a great tune of course 😊. Full boost at 2800 rpm’s. Much more boost to be had, but no real need for longevity is key for me with stock block and forged internals. Here in NC we get some hot days and yes AITs are a challenge, but for a street car that drives to half dozen large events and back a year and weekends, I absolutely enjoy it. Again, thanks for the great content and transparency as always!
I was having my 12 mustang tuned recently here in Florida at a local place, there was a 91 gt with this exact supercharger it had ford shorty headers with cats everything was stock besides exhaust Auto with 2:73 gears. I forget what pcm combo he went with ( I believe it was a holley) it was there for tuning as he ditched the ford pcm. He made 315/365 to the wheels. On stock pulley it made 4.5-5 psi. The owner told me he bought the supercharger over a decade ago he had about 50,000 miles on it. I could not get over how quiet the blower was. Im serious Zero wine ultimate sleeper.
Love it, would like to see how much more HP you could get out of it
More SBF content FTW!!! 🇺🇸💪🏼
Love the Snapon tune up machine... 😂
Old is gold!
The video reminds me of helping a friend install one of these K-B units years ago on a 95 5.0l. The dance of trying to get the blower and upper manifold onto the lower and getting all the bolts started was quite the feat.
Worth the trouble I assume
@@Andy351c yes, it was. That thing was scary to ride in afterwards. It had trickflow twisted wedge heads, GT 40 lower, LT headers and 3.55 gears and a stock cam. It had so much low end grunt, it did rolling burnouts in the first 3 gears at will.
THE STUDS HELPED
@@richardholdener1727 yup, that is what i was thinking when you where mounting the supercharger. Studs make it that much easier to align.
Dang those hands look familiar. I think it's the same work shirt from AEW, too. Mark sure knows a 5.0.
Haha. That's pretty funny. He's been wearing those shirts forever.
Awesome news, I have an og one and have been in need of a flowzilla plenum!
So I did look at kenne bells site, they only have cobra (flowzilla) style now and don't appear to sell separate parts.
I JUST showed a coworker with a 93 this Kenne Bell! Wish you had the entire install recorded you could cobble together to post.
THIS WAS THE ENTIRE INSTALL
I need this or the new Aussie Blower in my life for my 393W!!!
Have this same setup on my dad's 347 stroker with a terminator x ecm. Would love a max power video with peak ignition timing. Currently at 26° at 0 psi taking out 1.5° per lb of boost.
I have an original kenne bell blower on my 93GT but has heads cam etc and around 12 lbs of boost
Now I know what I need to put in my Fox
That being said, in the video great, I’m running a Paxton Novy, 2000 on a stock engine but aftermarket intake, headers and exhaust. The Novie 2000 is capable of 900 hp if the Engine is built, right. The Paxton, nove 2000 Actually has a Street legal tag on it with a card number I think this is the best supercharger ever built never seen it on your channel. I respect you a lot.
I have run the Novi 2000-it works well
I really liked the way the car sounds. What mufflers were on it?
I think my 89 town car needs one of these babies.
Always thought of getting one just wanted something intercooled
cobra vs z28 350 was the thing back in the day
Trick flow 17011R top end kit seems like these would go hand in hand to make well over 500
So I guess the question is keep 5.0 and buy this kit or ls swap since both make about same hp wheel also I wonder how torque storm does
Hey Richard I have 4 Mustangs I have a love for them so of course I love all of ur content on old school 5.0 and the sn95/new edge any chance u can do a video on 4.6 2v with ported pi heads a nice lumpy cam and a factory ported roots blower Thanks
what factory roots blower cam on a 4.6l 2V? and lots of 4.6l 2v vids up
I have a 2002 Saleen with a series 2 forth gen m90 and I wanted to do a cam swap and port out the blower or one from an 03/04 cobra and port the pi heads but I haven't seen any videos on that combo and I'm interested in seeing how much hp it would make and if it's worth it
the M112 blower can support more power than the M90 on your Saleen, ported heads help for either, same with cams
Thanks for the info any chance you might be able to do a video on that comb to see what kind of power it would make
sweet! I wonder this setup could work on a 351W....probably just a modified FEAD bracket.
They made a lightning kit at one time
You gotta film the dyno runs, people want to see and hear the roar.
I did
And so, August 11 2023 - Ford announces they will be releasing the new edition of the Ford Mustang, with over 2/3rds of the orders being for the 5.0 engine
50% increase in power!
Hi Richard.
What size is the throttle body opening on the Inlet? 75/90mm?
Either way, I'm ELATED to see this thing back in production. Not really big on the "5.0" badging, but that's small potatoes.
Again, thank you for the 8.2 deck content!

@@richardholdener1727
We love 8.2 stuff.
Remember back when everyone was going modular and we 5.0 guys would not swap? It's like Studebaker guys, they'd rather repair than swap. I still have that *deep* admiration for the fox 302.
How much more can that blower set up handle? Could it still improve apon a mild built 302 with H/C/I ? It looks really good tucked in under the hood.
BLOWER IS GOOD FOR 700+ HP
@@richardholdener1727 WoW 700 hp I bet with some more mods that 302 can compete with 03 04 cobra terminator , I had a 03 long long ago lol with upper and lower pullies bolt on s meth injection and every thing , But turn into a chevy guy after i got walked by a 01 ss lol bad🤣
I always thought on a dyno, the transmission should be in a 1.00 or close as possible. It appears this one was done in 3rd with a 1.26 ratio.
Richard, did that engine have the gt40 heads?? I rewatched and you don't mention what heads are on the car, thanks!
YES
Update date the video with a sound of that kenne bell whining on that dyno please!
1/2 way thru the video... thinking, wow that's an interesting design! Blower on the underside to save vertical space. How much is the estimated "dyno cell" hp ? I'd guess close to 450 ??
I bet with all that low torque, it's a blast to drive
NOT THAT MUCH
@richardholdener1727 really? (Well, you'd know better than me!)
I thought the full accessories, full exhaust, plus driveline loss would be more.
we would have to run all the accessories on the engine dyno for this blower, and shorty headers so the engine dyno numbers should be much lower than 450
@richardholdener1727 thanks for the follow-up. 😀 I didnt consider all those other accessories were needed.
Hi Richard.
Since the Weiand 174 was discontinued, what are the roots or twin screws supercharger options for the SBF carbureted engines? I can’t find anything out there 😢
Cheers
the blower shop has 192s, but look for a used 174/177
I wonder how this blower would do on a 5.8 using the Lightning lower intake?
it would work well
coiuld youput this supercharger on a 5.0 explorer?
Imagine if that was a 3.4 Whipple!
I bet with higher boost levels and active fuel management you would get much higher numbers even
more boost equals more power
At this point I am assuming most fox cars in this market will have some sort of hci combo and are in the situation of writing off that ridiculous expense for stock ls power...or freshening up with a belle as it is one last bolt on...... over the time and expense of an ls swap... so 400 whp is probably pretty easy in that light ... FOX chassis is starting to enter rowdy territory in that area.
Even at that....meh...L/S swap. Make an adapter for LS as an upgrade later Kenne Bell..😂
Only 50hp for thousands of dollars?? Not sure it's worth it.... Thanks for the videos!!

You don’t have a non edited copy of this build do you? I’m doing a 93 5.0 this weekend and this would be a big help. Thanks
non edited?
Was it a cobra lower or explorer? Website says it has to be cobra. Also wonder if you could run it with the ac deleted
either one works

Is a 351w kit available anywhere?
I'll check
I heard kennebell sold his company but there still making them
So for a mere $5000 you can supercharge an old 302 to make the same power as a cam only 4.8. LOL. All jokes aside, these were really good numbers and a total game changer 20 years ago. Now days, not so much. Still cool seeing it tested though. I had several buddies back in the day that had the paxton centrifugals on their 5.0s. Nobody I knew ever had one of these KB roots blowers though.
definitely more of a novelty than a kit for someone looking to make numbers. was looking at getting a vortech but this thing looks so wacky and unique i might just get it to have 450-500 hp street toy, keep in mind the rest of the top end of this motor is stock junk
Issue is the heads...once you get good heads aka anything that's not e7's or gt40's, plus a proper maf and throttle body preferably 90mm or more and proper 1 3/4 or 1 7/8 or bigger headers then these old 5.0s breathe pretty good...with proper induction, proper heads, and headers you can get 300 crank with the stock h.o cam...unfortunately in my experience most ford guys don't understand the concept of a vacuum pump aka the more air you get in, the more air you need to push out...not to mention the hard on most foxbody enthusiasts have for wanting to stick with the A9L ecu when there's much better options nowadays like the holley or megasquirt or P.I.M.P ecu...LS engines have pretty good heads from the factory, hence why a cam swap nets you good power even on a 4.8 LS
@@monikhushalpuri thats correct about the 4.8LS ....this is why 5.0 guys who do buy this just switch over to TF 17011R top end kit and this blower. it'll make probably around 400=450+ to the wheels and that 4.8 is still a junkyard engine.
Would you rather have the crabs or a Ford ?
Mark starting to look much older
Man, these things are cool as hell, ya they're expensive. Guys saying LS this and Coyote that, yes we get it. They're the same type of goofs on MMA and weightlifting vids saying "is that all? you can do more with less, looks terrible...uh pass the Cheetos while I rub muh fat baby belly."
