    gosh, that's a masterful use of channel 5 for drums!!!! also interesting how channels 2-4 swap instruments for different parts.. also that psg is strangely in tune the whole time and clearly audible, overall sounds very clean, nice job!

    It's an exciting Cool Remix and I love it, but running it on an original console poses a challenge due to the peculiarities of the Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC). The DAC's behavior is unconventional when it comes to playing FM sounds-you can't seamlessly switch between FM and DAC. The intriguing question arises: how does one play samples on an FM channel? The key lies in the necessity to maintain these samples within the FM channel, adding an extra layer of complexity to the audio dynamics. But overall really good Remix!

    • @ObviousYM
      @ObviousYM  7 місяців тому

      Although the DAC can be finicky there have been examples of games that uses the gems driver channel allocation which in games like Cool Spot have been able to switch on and off the dac on the fly.

      This sounds incredible! But, there is one thing I feel that is wrong about this remix. Personally, the saxophone, at least I think it is, sounds dreadful. But, that's really all I have to say. Also, at 0:34, Time Trax's lead instrument sounds a lot like the one used in Undertale, specifically Sans' Theme. Maybe you could do a remix of that sometime or something?

    I'm surprised you found a good use for the awful square channels on the Genesis. 1 terrible noise channel and a few very limited square channels to make them kinda suck to do anything with. If there was pulse width, they could at least be a little like the NES.
