A very worthy winner of the contest this round! It's a phenomenal arrangement that took the prompt and completely ran with it, and I'm honestly shocked my entry tied with yours haha
"Way to go, Has-Bean buddy, you did it! You finally beat Ro-butt-nik at his own game!" "I don't think he'll be causing trouble in Beanville again any time soon." "There's still plenty of roboticized Mean Beans around though... It's gonna take a while getting them back to normal." "..." "Say, that makes me think. Now that you're a hero, how 'bout you and I have a friendly bout?" "I'm warning ya, though, just because you beat Robotnik doesn't mean I'll go easy on you!" "Ready, little buddy? Then let's do it to it! I'll show you why they call me the Fastest Thing Alive!" Stage 14 Sonic the Hedgehog
My idea on how this could work is if say Eggman hooks up a magical mcguffin to the machine, the machine gains a mind of it's own and those that lose to the machine effectively lose their memory as their memory is sealed within the machine. The only way to get your memories back is to effectively beat the machine at it's own game.
This makes me think how the MBSM actually looks, according to the intro and boxart is just an conveyor belt, but in Mania is more like a part of Chemical Plant.
Has Bean is unironically a genuinely awesome and underrated Sonic character and should be brought back in IDW (even though he's literally just Carbuncle from Puyo Puyo in terms of appearance). Think about it: this guy's entire village was kidnapped by Eggman and roboticized into mindless slaves (ala metal virus), and he almost met the same fate before barely escaping, only to realize his entire body bares the metallic scars of such a traumatic incident. He also helped Sonic liberate his brethren whilst simultaneous fighting badniks over twice his size using only his wit. And when he finally meets face-to-face with Eggman, he's staring at the man who took his family, friends, and loved ones from him, all of whom have now had their "memories lost to the machine", all while the very same machine rapidly deprives more and more beans of their free will as they helplessly sit accept their fate on the conveyor belt behind him, into the very same machine he barely escaped from.. this lil' dude must've been feeling so many emotions at once, yet he persevered and overcame every challenge thrown at him. What a champ.
I can see it now: Every opponent you've faced thus far has always been a mostly fair-play AI, as in its rules were your rules, too. Anything it can do, you could do, too. The machine itself, though? Oh no, it's going to be fighting DIRTY. _You're playing ITS game now._ Not only will it be using the best AI possible for the game, meaning it'll be able to combo you into oblivion unless you interfere quickly, but in addition to the gray beans it sends out from its combos, it's going to be dropping lone gray beans into your dungeon _between_ its matchups. And the first time it tops out, it clears its middle two columns with a Giant Bean (like what rarely happens in Exercise Mode), meaning you basically have to beat it twice. After that happens, it'll then close a metal shutter on your "Next" box, meaning you'll have no idea what beans are coming until you see it drop down from the top (though if you've been carefully observing its Next box, you may be able to hazard an idea). Yeah, the machine is not pulling any punches! However, should you manage to overcome the machine and all the cheap tricks it pulls on you, the ending cutscene plays out a little differently. The beans will be celebrating and Robotnik would attempt to escape in his Egg-o-Matic as normal... but this time, it'll start to malfunction. He'll look down at it, then look at the player with an "Uh oh" face, then his Egg-o-Matic will explode too, comically launching the doctor into the sky with a twinkle.
randomly dropping the mean bean machine secret superboss theme we never knew we wanted? yeah i can get behind that absolutely LOVE the melancholic tone from memories of puyo puyo being preserved to give the new intended context a spicy twist from what you'd expect
I feel like song is so good, it kind of transcends the original material it was based on. It feels like it tells the story of a grudge match between two friends turned enemies, and all the conflicting emotions that come with that. Appropriately intense for a hypothetical superboss stage, especially with such an ambitious and dramatic name. Very impressive work.
I forgot to mention, the “Memories of Puyo Puyo” leitmotif is integrated so well into this, I didn’t even really hear it the first couple of times listening to it, which I think speaks to his well this composition works on its own.
Imagine this as an actual bossfight against the machine, but they pull a WL4 on you and give you a timer since yknow, after you beat Robotnik, the machine goes haywire and stuff
holy crap, john. this is actually sick asf! you are amazing when it comes to knowing how to work with trackers, and especially a wizard at utilizing the full capabilities of the ym2612 chip!!!
Badass title Works motifs in as masterfully as toby fox Banger song even without context I love this Also, a snes version could work as a dark matter/nightmare theme in Kirby's avalanche
" This is the end for you rodent be hold my magnificent marvel the Mean bean machine! with the emeralds I will annihilate you and be granted with my dream Eggman Land hahaha"
I wasn't expecting a remix of Memories of Puyo despite it making a cameo in Mean Bean Machine, and as a Sonic and Puyo fan this pleasantly surprised me

What was the prompt?
@@Klotzy4433 The prompt was to compose or arrange a piece that doesn't use 4/4 time :)
@@niphfm Ah interesting. Is there a place to listen to all the entries? Would love to hear yours

Stage 14
Sonic the Hedgehog
I can totally see the Mean Bean Machine itself as a secret final boss, pulling a PP2 Masked Satan bit.
Now you have me thinking about a Mean Bean version of Puyo Puyo Tsu LOL

I actually did think of Metal Sonic being the secret 14th stage.
But, since metal sonic isn’t in the show, it was kind of a stupid idea
This makes me wanna mean my beans.
OH SH!T I FORGOR TO PUYO MY PUYO!
This makes me wanna bean my means
This makes me wanna machine my means.
More like bean my mean machines. That's a SEGA magazine, as well!
welp. somebody has to say it.
someone has to give this man a PROMOTION!!!

At this point, it's no longer just a simple game of Puyo Puyo. This song makes it a WHOLE lot serious.
randomly dropping the mean bean machine secret superboss theme we never knew we wanted? yeah i can get behind that
absolutely LOVE the melancholic tone from memories of puyo puyo being preserved to give the new intended context a spicy twist from what you'd expect
I LOVE the bit at 1:35. Building up the energy without using melody at all - just a siren, an engine whistle, and a sick synth-guitar chord.

0:54 cool Egg Dragoon Mk. II (or your Boss + MiniBoss remixes) cameo

Try Out being reworked as a somber final boss theme is a very good idea.
Mean Bean's guitar will never get old, neither will this fire tune! :D
Sick work, dude!
THIS IS SO TASTY DUDE I CAN HARDLY HANDLE IT
I loved the part where Robotnik said "It's Mean Beaning Time!" and Machined all over the place.
wasn’t expecting this to go so hard but I’m glad it did
Badass title

Banger song even without context
