Have you revisited this since the latest App update? It now does continuous minute by minute readings. So, it seems it had the ability to do this all along but it's taken newer rivals doing more for less to force Abbott to improve their offering. Interesting that it may have had this feature all along though (says the cynical me).
I actually haven't done a follow up video with the new features - this is wonderful to hear that they're doing continuous readings now. I totally known what you mean - the competition forces these companies to innovate further...or are they just rolling things out slowly? Gosh I hope not, but then again there's a cynic in me too. 😬
I'm about to try this bad boy out, and I definitely wasn't reading that instruction manual! Still finger pricking (T1D since '97) and have always hated the idea of things "attached" to my body, which has kept my practices pretty ancient. This is my first step into the new world, and you've made it much less intimidating, thank you! And then, you said that nighttime was a scary time for some type1s and I was like, "Welp, I have to subscribe to this." 🙏 I've never really talked to other diabetics, and never thought I needed to, but just that one comment change my mind. Started my libre yesterday. First time with any continuous monitoring system. I will agree no pain. This morning the libre number was 30 less than my blood stick. But it was also less than 12 hours inserted. Read after 12 hours the libre should be more accurate. Great video, thank you.
They are a game changer from finger tests. Yes you are right can sometimes take awhile to stabilise, I always put the next sensor on other arm at least 12 hours before it's activated , so when I change to the new one it will be accurate straight away, still have to wait the 60 minutes, shame can't by pass that step.
I have no insurance and can't get disability or anything here and it is killing my mama to pay for all my stuff for me, this country ain't near as great as they claim it is.
You can also go online and print off a medical report for your doctor which can show your activity for the last 90 days. The reports are very detailed and if you take the time in the mobile app to log your carbs etc then you have a very powerful monitoring system. The libre 2 has saved myself life, literally.
Hi, don't you have any issue with the alarms? My FSL2 sensors are not able to maintain the connexion with my phone (pretty recent... iphone12). I constantly have to scan to "reconnect" them. So this is pretty useless for me (and I had to add the Bubble Mini who works perfectly with the same phone).
@@hik4ru I have iphone 11 and the alarms for me work great. I also have an apple watch and it wakes me at night for lows and highs. Very occasionally like one every two weeks, I will get a scan error but it resolves itself within a few minutes. Mind you my iphone is always pretty close to me 24/7.
There's always a small discrepancy, but it should not be huge. If this is an ongoing problem I would urge you to contact Abbott (who makes the Libra) because there may be an issue with your sensors. I'm so sorry this is happening to you - and I hope this helps!!

Great video! I was started on the Freestyle Libre 2 when I was first diagnosed last year- extremely affordable for me. I was able to try the Dexcom G6 recently and loved it but my insurance won’t cover it and would have to pay nearly $400 out of pocket a month. So back to the Libre!

I have a hunch that because Dexcom was the first CGM on the scene they pretty much got to set their price point at whatever percent markup they chose. My guess is with a giant corporation like Abbott nipping at their heels Dexcom prices may soon move downwards to a more reasonable markup?

Yes, scan it with the phone first and then you can use it with the phone and reader and will get alerts on your phone too. I am so so sorry to hear of your son's recent diagnosis. Please take it one day at a time. I'm thinking of you guys 💙
The accuracy is spot on in terms of the A1C reading which long term is the most important number. When I do my biannual blood tests I compare the A1C numbers and they have matched every time.
That's just the opposite of our experience. My wife was using the Dexcom 6, then our insurance company said she needs to switch to the Libre, since using the Libre, her A1C went from 7 to over 9! She is now doing finger sticks in parallel to try and get her A1C under control, we are documenting the difference (from 50 to over 100 points), and shove it in the face of our insurance company.
@@terryleonhardt7029 did you compare against actual real lab blood tests or the finger pricking? My experience was that each time I do the lab tests, which is the most accurate because it analyses your blood history going back three months, the number in my app was the same as the number on the lab test, which pleasantly surprised me. I know that there is a small degree of inaccuracy between finger pricking and the patch on the arm but its more or less negligible in the bigger scheme of things. I am sorry your wife is having this issue and would be interesting to see the results.
@@craig.edmonds since changing from the Dexcom to the Libre, her A1C has gone from 7 to over 9. The tests were done by the Mayo Clinic where her specialist is at.

Someone inside my insurance company (with a stern letter from my wife's diabetes specialist), decided that their executives holding MBA degrees realized that the extra letter does not outrank her doctor's MD degree, especially considering it comes from doctors at the Mayo Clinic headquarters in Rochester MN. So she is now back using the Dexcom that Mayo originally prescribed.
It's cool at first but then you will realize it's a p.o.shi÷ . The technology is incredible but the reader device is so terribly bad , comparative to having to use Grandpa's stone age car phone , a pagger , or word processor/typewriter in replace of your current device. Space age technology applied to a stone age gadget. Stupid and sad . Now a #3 with no significant improvement, yippee! hooray! Best thing to do is destroy all readers and blue prints , start over from scratch the monitor reader has nothing good about it and quit worrying over the body worn sensor!!!

I am living as an expat in Portugal. My phone app will not read it as it thinks I am in the US! My AppStore account is linked to my US account. So, I am trying to obtain a reader for it. UGH! It won’t allow you to change your Country!
If i was swimming laps 5 or 6 days a week would the sensor stay on? My Dexcom g6 i was using before did not live thru a good length of swim. I love my Dexcom g6 reader and really didn't like the app... and I hate the Libre 3 app so bad. If I like the G6 reader will I like the Libre 2 reader? And do you have any idea when the Libre 3 will have a reader? Will the Libre 2 let you adjust the time window the graph is showing? I really hate not being able to adjust that on android. Would love to hear your opinion on these subjects!
Hey Andrea, I am taking care of my diabetic elderly cousin. His doctor told us to get the Libre2. We did, but she told us that we had to buy a cell phone that would read the Libre2. I did buy him one which he has trouble using. Then...I saw your video and you talked about using a "Reader". Does this mean that we could use a "reader" and not have to use the cell phone?
Help!!! I’m about to use the libre.. and the whole reader/app thing confuses me… so if I scan for the first time with my reader I can’t use the app later? Or was that just for the alarms? I would prefer to use my phone, but would like the reader for back up does that make sense? Thank you.
Hubby's Libre 2 fell off on it's own at day 12. I would like to use tape or a sensor cover. I was concerned if the tape would interfere with the readings.
I wish I had actually watched the whole video before scanning the sensor with the FreeStyle pda looking thing, but we live and we learn. My device did not come with test strips, and I'm curious if I should get some on top of my other tester.
I’m only expressing my opinion but don’t buy this product. If you use an iPhone to read the device it is terribly flawed. It took them a year to update the app for the 2. Apple updates regularly and when they do it makes a very expensive sensor worthless!! Abbott says all they can do is sell you their piece of crap reader. Go get a dexcom instead as they care about customers. I just had to throw 2 sensors out and I’m pissed

I have been using the Libre 2 for 9 months now, and the alarms are an absolute Godsend, especially at night. The only issue I have is an annoying poking pain and discomfort when wearing the sensor. Sometimes the poking pain can last the entire 14 days until the sensor is removed. Does anyone else have this?
I'm so glad to hear this is working so well for you - but I'm sorry to hear about the pain! That's no good! I find it depends on where I have my sensor, some areas are more painful and sensitive than others. I've learned what this sensitive spots are over time and now definitely avoid them - I hope you're able to do the same!! 💙💙💙

I am using the Libre 2 and love it. Alarms are all I require for day to day and working. Started with DEXCOM G6 and had 100% issues with low blood glucose alarms happening WELL after I was low( every single time ), thus the switch. I love your videos and advice and agree that everyone is different and different systems work with each individual. Trial and error! I have been T1 for over 43 years and wish all of the tech and advice was around when I was a kid, so thank you and keep up the great, positive work!!
I have read about this - even on Abbott's website! I guess time will tell, but it appears that it's definitely in the works and will be thinner! We shall see!!

I had the dexcom for some time. But dexcom is like the apple in the phone world. Way to expensive and really popular. But I'm trying the freestyle libra 2 in a week. I heard it's cheaper and everything you have said I have heard from other diabetics. So I'm really excited to use it!! Awesome videos!!

You should do a video about coping with nerve wracking anxiety that makes you think you’re low. I’ve been anxious all weekend (Not about Lows) and numbed it with binge watching on my iPad & I actually went to a Low of 58mg/dL. I treated with orange juice and a snack. (Sunday, 7/11/21 9:15pm/3:15pm) I found out that the feelings people get when low is the adrenaline that is dumped in when Lows occur This morning., 7/12 I feel nervous but I’m not low now but I feel shaky as if I’m low. Update 7/14: Was let go yesterday. I saw it coming and it was the reason of my mounting anxiety. We think it was a serious bout of disability discrimination and people not knowing about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) When you were younger around the age of diagnosis and had a bout of severe anxiety did you get confused by the adrenaline thinking you were low and it was anxiety or does anxiety do something else to your T1D body?
Mariana - first and foremost, I am so so so sorry to hear about your anxiety and the havoc it's wreaking on your body - I know this situation ALL TO WELL and can completely empathize with you. I'm so sorry to hear of your being let go, and especially concerned by the disability discrimination - I really hope you're able to find some sort of solution to this, and have support to do so, as this is completely unacceptable. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all of this. I can certainly relate, and though I probably had it distinctly when I was younger, I think I'm more aware of the mind/body connection now because I'm far more in touch with my body than I was in my younger years. Nerves can often feel like a low to me now, but because I've seen adrenaline shoot me hyper 9 times out of 10 (if not more) I've learned that this is not something to necessarily worry about, if anything I need to be more active and on top of delivering insulin in these instances. Just goes to show we're all differently, but anxiety has a real way of playing with our minds, yes, but bodies too. I'm sending you strength as you deal with your next steps and hope you know you have my support, always 💙🙏🏻
@@ShesDiabetic that Low last Sunday was after I got out of the shower. I had not gotten out of bed so far that day and the getting up for the shower was what made me plummet. Not sure why it’s looking like I’m getting Lows at least once a month The nerves were the next morning and I automatically thought to ask about those fake Lows due to nerves. I’m not diagnoses with anxiety; this was a situational event all mounting up to the letting go that happened mid-morning of Tuesday 7/13/21
I think for you your lows that come after adrenaline hypers and when your body is done with the adrenaline as opposed to the shaky adrenaline that emits fake Lows. I’m am thinking about your moving house vlog when writing this post.

I like the Libre but the alarms are not loud enough. If I’m sleeping and my sugar drops I want it to wake me up and it’s not that loud. The dexcom g6 low alarms will wake up a bear from hibernation.
it's very nice of you to try stuff out to share your experience with the community :) i use libre 1 (we only have those officially in Russia) with a bubble mini transmitter and xdrip+ on my android phone and i love it. it's accurate 90% of the time because you calibrate it yourself and you can do it multiple times, and i have all the data and all the alarms on my phone, it's great
Great review Andrea. I have two suggestions: 1) Try coconut oil, baby oil (or any other oil) for removal. It makes it much less painful and easier to remove the adhesive residue from your skin. 2) I noticed you are using the product logo in your thumbnail which technically might a copyright issue unless you have their approval to use it. Please be careful as you can get a copyright strike for this. I've had my experience with similar matter. It is not fun and I would not wish this to anyone to have to go through this:)

I have been using this for several months and now worried that I relied too much on it and was putting myself in danger. I was using it to figure out my oral medications dose. The meter was showing the dose was making me hypoglycemic but when I checked my actual blood glucose I was hyperglycemic! I repeated this several times and am routinely much higher in my blood glucose versus my interstitial (the difference is always about 60 points). As we know glucose is more accurate. I no longer trust this device.
I’m so sorry to hear you’ve had such a rollercoaster with the readings - this is just awful! You’re right not to trust a device after it’s led you astray that many times. I might suggest trying the Dexcom G6 to see if you can achieve better accuracy through that system, as I know a lot of us have. Just a suggestion. Thank you so so much for sharing your experience with us here as we all have different physiology and need to make sure we find and use the systems that will work best with our bodies.

Still waiting for libre 2, they can't tell me when it will be available. in Australia, will be the same price as libre 1, $92.50 no gst (vat) on medical in Australia . Glad you told us about scanning phone first, with the libre 1 you have to do the opposite , scan reader first to be able to use both if I scan the phone first, can't use the reader. Stay safe 🙏❤

Another difference between the original and the libre 2 is that only one device can read a sensor (in the USA) and that device is locked to that sensor. (The video seems to indicate that in the UK if you scan first with the phone, then it can be used with the phone and the reader. Not so in the USA). My first sensor I used the libre reader. For my second sensor I used the android app. I much preferred the android app as the screen of the reader is so small and the data has to be manually uploaded to the website (the android app will upload automatically plus the screen for my android is easily x4 as big.... I asked Abbott and was told that in the USA, because of the alarms, the FDA says only one device can be set to read a particular sensor.... I agree with the video that the needle looks freaky! Everytime I get ready to apply a new sensor I stare at the needle in dread, but everytime there is no pain when I attach the new sensor (I wish they designed the applicator so it didn't show the needle and it would make it soooo much easier lol!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us here! Yes, here, as far as I understand it, if you scan first with the phone you can also use it with the reader (but not the other way around). They make this all very vague and confusing I'm sorry to say and I'm sorry if it's caused people frustration, which would be completely understandable!

Hi Andrea. Thanks for your video. Very glad that you mentioned that the sensor must be scanned with your phone first if you want the alarms to be set-up on your phone. For the FL#1, it was my understanding that in order to be able to use your reader afterwards, you needed to scan with the reader first, then scan with your phone. Hence, I was projecting to do the same with FL#2 which would have impacted the capacity of setting-up the alarm on the phone. I will certainly review your other videos to understand - out of the accuracy aspect - what are the main reasons of your preference for the Dexcom G6 which started to be covered by our provincial health system in Quebec fairly recently in May 2021. Thanks again.
I use my phone to activate my first scan, however it locked me out of using the freestyle reader. Said I couldn’t use to to a previous device synced to the sensor.
The Ontario government of Canada covers the cost of both freestyle libre 1 and 2. In Ontario Canada, the freestyle libre two reader costs $ 52.92and freestyle libre 2 sensor costs $96.12 .Did u ever lose freestyle libre 1 sensor?

After freaking out and two weeks ago wasting an entire unit because I clicked it messing with it because I was so terrified of that needle… I DID IT. Still waiting for my first reading, but thank you so much. Let this new crazy journey ahead of me begin.
Cost: In the U.S. your cost will vary according to what health insurance company you have, and what kind of health insurance policy you have with that company. My company is a self-contained PPO health insurance but doesn't seem to have much input regarding our health insurance company's pharmaceutical formulary. The formulary decides what medications your insurance will cover, how much it will cover of each medication, etc. Any medication NOT on the formulary is always available for us to purchase at full retail price however, which is often not a financial option for my family. That being said, I receive a 2-3 month supply (6 sensors for 84 days) for $80, which is approximately $13.33 per sensor.

Hello Andrea, I was on the Freestyle 1 for about 3 years with just a few bad sensors. Since oktober i am on the Freestyle 2 and 3 out of 4 sensors were off and reading way to low 50-60 vs finger prik 110-120 even on the third day. Called Abbott and got them replaced. Any ideas? Thx !! Gosh...I am so sorry to hear of all the troubles you've had with sensors! That is awful...and quite frankly unacceptable. To be honest, in your circumstance, I would personally (if it were me) look at another glucose monitoring option. I personally am on the Dexcom G6 and this it's fantastic and very very accurate. Perhaps this would be better with your physiology? Just thinking out loud here...I know it's not an option for everyone to switch depending on coverage, etc. ❤️
There are alarms on the FSL 2, but only high and low alerts - Maybe you want to give the free trial a go and see how you like it? It's such a personal choice so I totally understand your reluctance! Don't worry - you are not alone! I would just encourage you to try and see how you like it! But that's just me! 💙

I just ordered Freestyle Libre 2. First time user, living in Canada. I am not covered by my Ontario provincial drug plan for seniors, because I am only pre-diabetic. To be covered I need to be on insulin. Cost is $54 for the reader and $99 for the sensor.
I’m type 2 but now suddenly insulin dependent just a week ago, my doc also ordered this for me I get it tomorrow 1/26/23 on my mom’s birthday. I’ll definitely be programming those alarms

Yes, you need to buy a Freestyle Libre 2 sensor and download the app or get the reader that works with the Freestyle Libre 2 - it’s a different system. I hope this helps!
With Libre 1 we had to scan the reader first to be able to use our phones also. That is what I did with Libre 2 but now it won’t let me use my phone. I’m stuck using the reader only. So if I start my sensor with my phone I should be able to use the reader also right? I want to make sure I can use both.

I’m trying to get an answer from Abbott but they haven’t answered me yet. I can’t try to activate my sensor with my phone because I’m afraid I won’t be able to use the Reader. I am planning on upgrading to the libre 2 soon but I would love to know this: when I initiate the sensor with my phone to get the alarms in it can I still also use the reader? Because for the libre 1 if u initiate with your phone u can’t scan with the reader for the duration of that sensor. I do use my phone more and would prefer having the alarms on it but I also need the ability to scan with the reader too because my husband use it to check on me when I’m sleeping. I would appreciate it if anyone knows and could provide me with answers! AND Thank u very much for an informative video.
Hey! I'm new to all this. Since getting diagnosed i get free prescriptions on the NHS. Would i have to pay for it or not? Also do i contact Abbotts or my diabetic centre to get onboard?
Different boroughs cover different consumables. I’d ask your Endo or GP for a prescription and see if they’ll provide you one! You would not have to pay I believe, but every different borough works a little differently so it’s worth asking about that too!! Good luck!!!

Do people feel Lows as they’re dropping or even coming back up even if the number is a normal 103mg/dL when caught? I noticed this the other day Thursday, 7/1/21 I realized that both times were on days that were off schedule. My day off in June with a snafu’d plan and the second time I felt screwed because I didn’t know mom was home and had to wait an hour to concoct my breakfast. I just realized now that this is like in your Moving House vlog that when your stress was over you went low. I’m not saying that may be technically true in numbers, Idk, but looked like it from an observational angle
The second alcohol wipe is to help take off the old sensor. I put the wipe around my fingertip and pry it up with that, and that prevents my skin from tearing.
I would prefer 14 days as scanning is required in both sensors. I'm using Ambrosia'a Blucon to get the readings on my phone/watch and also it gives me alarms with numbers without scanning the sensor so I don't prefer to spend extra money on Libre 2 to get the ringing alarms which doesn't give me number of my sugar level without scanning.
I hear you!! I’m glad you have a setup that works well for you! That’s the most important thing! I know a lot of people really like the Blucon addition to their Libre system and I think that’s most fabulous indeed!! 💙

First of all, I would say I’m nervous as I just discovered and lived with it less than a month. Today is my first time using CGM by following the instructions and recommendations in your video. However, currently I’m not 100% sure about showering, whether the water will get in or not. Additionally, I usually lying on my side while sleeping. Will the thing still be okay?

Have you revisited this since the latest App update? It now does continuous minute by minute readings. So, it seems it had the ability to do this all along but it's taken newer rivals doing more for less to force Abbott to improve their offering. Interesting that it may have had this feature all along though (says the cynical me).
I actually haven't done a follow up video with the new features - this is wonderful to hear that they're doing continuous readings now. I totally known what you mean - the competition forces these companies to innovate further...or are they just rolling things out slowly? Gosh I hope not, but then again there's a cynic in me too. 😬
I'm about to try this bad boy out, and I definitely wasn't reading that instruction manual! Still finger pricking (T1D since '97) and have always hated the idea of things "attached" to my body, which has kept my practices pretty ancient. This is my first step into the new world, and you've made it much less intimidating, thank you! And then, you said that nighttime was a scary time for some type1s and I was like, "Welp, I have to subscribe to this." 🙏 I've never really talked to other diabetics, and never thought I needed to, but just that one comment change my mind. Started my libre yesterday. First time with any continuous monitoring system. I will agree no pain. This morning the libre number was 30 less than my blood stick. But it was also less than 12 hours inserted. Read after 12 hours the libre should be more accurate. Great video, thank you.
They are a game changer from finger tests. Yes you are right can sometimes take awhile to stabilise, I always put the next sensor on other arm at least 12 hours before it's activated , so when I change to the new one it will be accurate straight away, still have to wait the 60 minutes, shame can't by pass that step.
I have no insurance and can't get disability or anything here and it is killing my mama to pay for all my stuff for me, this country ain't near as great as they claim it is.
You can also go online and print off a medical report for your doctor which can show your activity for the last 90 days.
The reports are very detailed and if you take the time in the mobile app to log your carbs etc then you have a very powerful monitoring system.
The libre 2 has saved myself life, literally.
Hi, don't you have any issue with the alarms? My FSL2 sensors are not able to maintain the connexion with my phone (pretty recent... iphone12). I constantly have to scan to "reconnect" them. So this is pretty useless for me (and I had to add the Bubble Mini who works perfectly with the same phone).
@@hik4ru I have iphone 11 and the alarms for me work great. I also have an apple watch and it wakes me at night for lows and highs. Very occasionally like one every two weeks, I will get a scan error but it resolves itself within a few minutes. Mind you my iphone is always pretty close to me 24/7.
Andrea-I’m interested in purchasing this but you had a large difference between Libre 2 & finger stick which concerns me. Why did this occur?
There's always a small discrepancy, but it should not be huge. If this is an ongoing problem I would urge you to contact Abbott (who makes the Libra) because there may be an issue with your sensors. I'm so sorry this is happening to you - and I hope this helps!!
It would be great if they could incorporate the reader app into a smart watch. No more having another device in your pocket

Great video! I was started on the Freestyle Libre 2 when I was first diagnosed last year- extremely affordable for me. I was able to try the Dexcom G6 recently and loved it but my insurance won’t cover it and would have to pay nearly $400 out of pocket a month. So back to the Libre!

My insurance covers 80% of Dexcom but it's still more expensive than libre 2.
I have a hunch that because Dexcom was the first CGM on the scene they pretty much got to set their price point at whatever percent markup they chose. My guess is with a giant corporation like Abbott nipping at their heels Dexcom prices may soon move downwards to a more reasonable markup?

The accuracy is spot on in terms of the A1C reading which long term is the most important number.
When I do my biannual blood tests I compare the A1C numbers and they have matched every time.

That's just the opposite of our experience. My wife was using the Dexcom 6, then our insurance company said she needs to switch to the Libre, since using the Libre, her A1C went from 7 to over 9! She is now doing finger sticks in parallel to try and get her A1C under control, we are documenting the difference (from 50 to over 100 points), and shove it in the face of our insurance company.
@@terryleonhardt7029 did you compare against actual real lab blood tests or the finger pricking? My experience was that each time I do the lab tests, which is the most accurate because it analyses your blood history going back three months, the number in my app was the same as the number on the lab test, which pleasantly surprised me. I know that there is a small degree of inaccuracy between finger pricking and the patch on the arm but its more or less negligible in the bigger scheme of things. I am sorry your wife is having this issue and would be interesting to see the results.
@@craig.edmonds since changing from the Dexcom to the Libre, her A1C has gone from 7 to over 9. The tests were done by the Mayo Clinic where her specialist is at.

Someone inside my insurance company (with a stern letter from my wife's diabetes specialist), decided that their executives holding MBA degrees realized that the extra letter does not outrank her doctor's MD degree, especially considering it comes from doctors at the Mayo Clinic headquarters in Rochester MN. So she is now back using the Dexcom that Mayo originally prescribed.
It's cool at first but then you will realize it's a p.o.shi÷ . The technology is incredible but the reader device is so terribly bad , comparative to having to use Grandpa's stone age car phone , a pagger , or word processor/typewriter in replace of your current device. Space age technology applied to a stone age gadget. Stupid and sad . Now a #3 with no significant improvement, yippee! hooray! Best thing to do is destroy all readers and blue prints , start over from scratch the monitor reader has nothing good about it and quit worrying over the body worn sensor!!!
Here in the US, you can only use the reader for the Libre 2. Phone app for the Libre 2 has not been approved by the FDA in the US.

I am living as an expat in Portugal. My phone app will not read it as it thinks I am in the US! My AppStore account is linked to my US account. So, I am trying to obtain a reader for it. UGH! It won’t allow you to change your Country!
If i was swimming laps 5 or 6 days a week would the sensor stay on? My Dexcom g6 i was using before did not live thru a good length of swim. I love my Dexcom g6 reader and really didn't like the app... and I hate the Libre 3 app so bad. If I like the G6 reader will I like the Libre 2 reader? And do you have any idea when the Libre 3 will have a reader? Will the Libre 2 let you adjust the time window the graph is showing? I really hate not being able to adjust that on android.

Hey Andrea, I am taking care of my diabetic elderly cousin. His doctor told us to get the Libre2. We did, but she told us that we had to buy a cell phone that would read the Libre2. I did buy him one which he has trouble using. Then...I saw your video and you talked about using a "Reader". Does this mean that we could use a "reader" and not have to use the cell phone?
Help!!! I’m about to use the libre.. and the whole reader/app thing confuses me… so if I scan for the first time with my reader I can’t use the app later? Or was that just for the alarms? I would prefer to use my phone, but would like the reader for back up does that make sense? Thank you.

Hubby's Libre 2 fell off on it's own at day 12. I would like to use tape or a sensor cover. I was concerned if the tape would interfere with the readings.
I wish I had actually watched the whole video before scanning the sensor with the FreeStyle pda looking thing, but we live and we learn. My device did not come with test strips, and I'm curious if I should get some on top of my other tester.
I’m only expressing my opinion but don’t buy this product. If you use an iPhone to read the device it is terribly flawed. It took them a year to update the app for the 2. Apple updates regularly and when they do it makes a very expensive sensor worthless!! Abbott says all they can do is sell you their piece of crap reader. Go get a dexcom instead as they care about customers. I just had to throw 2 sensors out and I’m pissed

My only problem so far is that the app is not compatible with my phone,,(Moto G Stylus). So I have no choice but to use the reader.
I have been using the Libre 2 for 9 months now, and the alarms are an absolute Godsend, especially at night. The only issue I have is an annoying poking pain and discomfort when wearing the sensor. Sometimes the poking pain can last the entire 14 days until the sensor is removed. Does anyone else have this?
I'm so glad to hear this is working so well for you - but I'm sorry to hear about the pain! That's no good! I find it depends on where I have my sensor, some areas are more painful and sensitive than others. I've learned what this sensitive spots are over time and now definitely avoid them - I hope you're able to do the same!! 💙💙💙

I am using the Libre 2 and love it. Alarms are all I require for day to day and working. Started with DEXCOM G6 and had 100% issues with low blood glucose alarms happening WELL after I was low( every single time ), thus the switch. I love your videos and advice and agree that everyone is different and different systems work with each individual. Trial and error!

I have the Libre 1. The lows are very inaccurate for me. I can have a 62 on the meter and prick says 85. Wish it more accurate on the lower end.
I read that there is a Freestyle 3 is in some places. And it is much smaller. Have you heard about that?
I have read about this - even on Abbott's website! I guess time will tell, but it appears that it's definitely in the works and will be thinner! We shall see!!

When you were younger around the age of diagnosis and had a bout of severe anxiety did you get confused by the adrenaline thinking you were low and it was anxiety or does anxiety do something else to your T1D body?
Mariana - first and foremost, I am so so so sorry to hear about your anxiety and the havoc it's wreaking on your body - I know this situation ALL TO WELL and can completely empathize with you.
I'm so sorry to hear of your being let go, and especially concerned by the disability discrimination - I really hope you're able to find some sort of solution to this, and have support to do so, as this is completely unacceptable. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all of this.
I can certainly relate, and though I probably had it distinctly when I was younger, I think I'm more aware of the mind/body connection now because I'm far more in touch with my body than I was in my younger years. Nerves can often feel like a low to me now, but because I've seen adrenaline shoot me hyper 9 times out of 10 (if not more) I've learned that this is not something to necessarily worry about, if anything I need to be more active and on top of delivering insulin in these instances. Just goes to show we're all differently, but anxiety has a real way of playing with our minds, yes, but bodies too. I'm sending you strength as you deal with your next steps and hope you know you have my support, always 💙🙏🏻
@@ShesDiabetic that Low last Sunday was after I got out of the shower. I had not gotten out of bed so far that day and the getting up for the shower was what made me plummet. Not sure why it’s looking like I’m getting Lows at least once a month
The nerves were the next morning

I like the Libre but the alarms are not loud enough. If I’m sleeping and my sugar drops I want it to wake me up and it’s not that loud. The dexcom g6 low alarms will wake up a bear from hibernation.

i use libre 1 (we only have those officially in Russia) with a bubble mini transmitter and xdrip+ on my android phone and i love it. it's accurate 90% of the time because you calibrate it yourself and you can do it multiple times, and i have all the data and all the alarms on my phone, it's great

Great review Andrea. I have two suggestions:
1) Try coconut oil, baby oil (or any other oil) for removal. It makes it much less painful and easier to remove the adhesive residue from your skin.
2) I noticed you are using the product logo in your thumbnail which technically might a copyright issue unless you have their approval to use it. Please be careful as you can get a copyright strike for this. I've had my experience with similar matter. It is not fun and I would not wish this to anyone to have to go through this:)

I have been using this for several months and now worried that I relied too much on it and was putting myself in danger. I was using it to figure out my oral medications dose. The meter was showing the dose was making me hypoglycemic but when I checked my actual blood glucose I was hyperglycemic! I repeated this several times and am routinely much higher in my blood glucose versus my interstitial (the difference is always about 60 points). As we know glucose is more accurate. I no longer trust this device.
I’m so sorry to hear you’ve had such a rollercoaster with the readings - this is just awful! You’re right not to trust a device after it’s led you astray that many times. I might suggest trying the Dexcom G6 to see if you can achieve better accuracy through that system, as I know a lot of us have. Just a suggestion. Thank you so so much for sharing your experience with us here as we all have different physiology and need to make sure we find and use the systems that will work best with our bodies.

Another difference between the original and the libre 2 is that only one device can read a sensor (in the USA) and that device is locked to that sensor. (The video seems to indicate that in the UK if you scan first with the phone, then it can be used with the phone and the reader. Not so in the USA). My first sensor I used the libre reader. For my second sensor I used the android app. I much preferred the android app as the screen of the reader is so small and the data has to be manually uploaded to the website (the android app will upload automatically plus the screen for my android is easily x4 as big.... I asked Abbott and was told that in the USA, because of the alarms, the FDA says only one device can be set to read a particular sensor.... I agree with the video that the needle looks freaky! Everytime I get ready to apply a new sensor I stare at the needle in dread, but everytime there is no pain when I attach the new sensor (I wish they designed the applicator so it didn't show the needle and it would make it soooo much easier lol!

Hi Andrea. Thanks for your video. Very glad that you mentioned that the sensor must be scanned with your phone first if you want the alarms to be set-up on your phone. For the FL#1, it was my understanding that in order to be able to use your reader afterwards, you needed to scan with the reader first, then scan with your phone. Hence, I was projecting to do the same with FL#2 which would have impacted the capacity of setting-up the alarm on the phone. I use my phone to activate my first scan, however it locked me out of using the freestyle reader. Said I couldn’t use to to a previous device synced to the sensor.

Cost: In the U.S. your cost will vary according to what health insurance company you have, and what kind of health insurance policy you have with that company. My company is a self-contained PPO health insurance but doesn't seem to have much input regarding our health insurance company's pharmaceutical formulary. The formulary decides what medications your insurance will cover, how much it will cover of each medication, etc. Any medication NOT on the formulary is always available for us to purchase at full retail price however, which is often not a financial option for my family. That being said, I receive a 2-3 month supply (6 sensors for 84 days) for $80, which is approximately $13.33 per sensor.

Freestyle libre is very inaccurate.
Hello Andrea, I was on the Freestyle 1 for about 3 years with just a few bad sensors. Since oktober i am on the Freestyle 2 and 3 out of 4 sensors were off and reading way to low 50-60 vs finger prik 110-120 even on the third day. Called Abbott and got them replaced. Any ideas? Thx !! Gosh...I am so sorry to hear of all the troubles you've had with sensors! That is awful...and quite frankly unacceptable. To be honest, in your circumstance, I would personally (if it were me) look at another glucose monitoring option. I personally am on the Dexcom G6 and this it's fantastic and very very accurate. Perhaps this would be better with your physiology? Just thinking out loud here...I know it's not an option for everyone to switch depending on coverage, etc. ❤️

Can I get alarm in Libre 14 days? I'm a bit reluctant to try Libre 2
There are alarms on the FSL 2, but only high and low alerts - Maybe you want to give the free trial a go and see how you like it? It's such a personal choice so I totally understand your reluctance! Don't worry - you are not alone! I would just encourage you to try and see how you like it! But that's just me! 💙

I just ordered Freestyle Libre 2. First time user, living in Canada. I am not covered by my Ontario provincial drug plan for seniors, because I am only pre-diabetic. To be covered I need to be on insulin. Cost is $54 for the reader and $99 for the sensor.
I’m type 2 but now suddenly insulin dependent just a week ago, my doc also ordered this for me I get it tomorrow 1/26/23 on my mom’s birthday. I’ll definitely be programming those alarms

Thanks Andrea have binge watched and enjoyed many of your videos re going onto pump either Tandem t or medtronic 640, unfortunately neither of which work with libre 1sensors $97-98 nzd each ( 50 pounds 0r $69 usd ) ps was wondering re initiating with phone first on libre 2 as presently have to scan with reader first before phone on libre 1 or does this too negate using scanner thanks again keep happy and healthy
Did you try any CGM device with your Libre 2? If yes, then which one would you recommend? I'm looking for a CGM which can give me independent readings on my Apple watch without phone and alarms without scanning the sensor. Do you have any idea which one can full fill my requirement?

Yes, you need to buy a Freestyle Libre 2 sensor and download the app or get the reader that works with the Freestyle Libre 2 - it’s a different system. I hope this helps!

With Libre 1 we had to scan the reader first to be able to use our phones also. That is what I did with Libre 2 but now it won’t let me use my phone. I’m stuck using the reader only. So if I start my sensor with my phone I should be able to use the reader also right? I want to make sure I can use both.
Oh my goodness that is so annoying...yes, I thought if you start it with the phone you can use it with the reader also, that was my understanding. Has this worked for you? Oh I hope so! They really don't make this clear enough and that's incredibly frustrating!
I’m trying to get an answer from Abbott but they haven’t answered me yet. I can’t try to activate my sensor with my phone because I’m afraid I won’t be able to use the Reader. My work place doesn’t let me use my phone. That is why I need to make sure my Reader still works.

I am planning on upgrading to the libre 2 soon but I would love to know this: when I initiate the sensor with my phone to get the alarms in it can I still also use the reader? Because for the libre 1 if u initiate with your phone u can’t scan with the reader for the duration of that sensor. I do use my phone more and would prefer having the alarms on it but I also need the ability to scan with the reader too because my husband use it to check on me when I’m sleeping.
I would appreciate it if anyone knows and could provide me with answers!

Different boroughs cover different consumables. I’d ask your Endo or GP for a prescription and see if they’ll provide you one! You would not have to pay I believe, but every different borough works a little differently so it’s worth asking about that too!! Good luck!!!

With insurance, FSL One costs me $65 for two sensors. Without insurance, it costs me $180 for two sensors. I’m in California.
The second alcohol wipe is to help take off the old sensor. I put the wipe around my fingertip and pry it up with that, and that prevents my skin from tearing.

I would prefer 14 days as scanning is required in both sensors. I'm using Ambrosia'a Blucon to get the readings on my phone/watch and also it gives me alarms with numbers without scanning the sensor so I don't prefer to spend extra money on Libre 2 to get the ringing alarms which doesn't give me number of my sugar level without scanning.

Hi Andrea! Thank you very much for such an impressive and useful video💗 I found that it is literally helpful for me right now when I found out that I have got diabetes type 1. First of all, I would say I’m nervous as I just discovered and lived with it less than a month. Today is my first time using CGM by following the instructions and recommendations in your video. However, currently I’m not 100% sure about showering, whether the water will get in or not. Additionally, I usually lying on my side while sleeping. Will the thing still be okay?

You get a sensor has expired message on the reader.
Exactly as Boatman Says - the sensor expires and you not longer get readings.
