- You can start a catfish farm right at your home. To setup a small scale catfish farm this is a guide to using a white (1000 Litres tank to achieve this).
Backyard fish farms are a great way to start and learn the ropes of fish farming before you scale up. It also helps in that it is not labour intensive and so can be managed by yourself before you scale up. You would need a tank, source of water, juveniles, feeds and passion.
You might start small but don’t stay small !

It’s best practice to sort your fishes. It’s not best practice to use only one tank for fish farming. However you can create a wooden frame to divide your tank inside.

Ha. It is like asking that can you walk to South Africa ? Yes there is road for you to walk, but no, it is not practicable. The amount of water you need means that it is not practicable to use hand to fetch it

Great delivery. Per meal what is the qty of feed for my 100 juveniles?( so that the half bag 2mm would be sufficient until its time to upgrade to the next size of feed)
The quantity per meal is not determined before, it can be measure after. Some people can also feed a percentage of the body weight.

You are welcome Seun, Pond Fertilization is for earthen ponds, for tanks you wash with detergent and rinse with salt and you are good to go

There’s two breeds available. Clarias if you are raising the fish for 6 months and less, hybrid if you are raising the fish for 1 year and above

If you Budget 20-50 liters for one fish, your 300 liters would take between 30 to 15 fishes
But the prices of feed is now times 2 or 3 and the juvenile is 150 while the tank now is 55k .so how do i calculate my profit bcuz a kilo of fish is not 2000 or 2500 like u said .current i dnt knw how much.is a kilo bcuz i have like 80 fishes which are 5month
Number 1. Price of feed per Kg now is still less than 1600. No , it is not times 2 or 3.

We change the water once it’s dirty. This might be fewer when the fishes are smaller and increases in frequency as the fish grow bigger. Please don’t even think about buying. It’s like saying a human being should buy Oxygen. It is possible on paper but unrealistic and unsustainable in real life.

Great question. Most local branded feeds 2mm is bigger than 2mm of imported feeds and thus your young fish can’t pick it up yet.
you said 16k per bag, then for 8 bags, you should be getting arround 120k, or is there something i'm missing?

Hello Princess , there’s no shade in the ocean and the rivers, and fish grow there. Just make sure your water level is more than 3 ft and you are good to go

Okay I would . However I must mention that for a small scale farmer you want to keep your expenses as lean as possible, you don’t want to waste money or inflate your budget too much. The benefits of probiotics don’t match the expense for a small scale farmer

I assume you mean tap water, most times tap water contains chlorine from the government. Fish don’t like chlorine.

No sir, there is no shade in the ocean. For an earthen pond that is as deep as it should, there’s never any shade needed.

How would water now come in na ? If there’s no inlet water ?
Getting the water out might cause the fishes to escape from the pipe
Good thinking , however with a net on the exit , your fish is safe until they are big enough not to be able to pass that exit.

Melange is already 3 months fishes, it’s already eatable. Jumbo on the other hand still has 2 months for you to rear.

Well done bro, excellent presentation. I bought the tank yesterday, then decided to check out the feed. 2mm of blue crown brand is #25,500. How can someone raise 100 pieces to maturity and still make profit with this price? None of the sizes is less than 25k
You probably need less than half bag of 2mm for 100 pieces sir. Less than 15kg.
