Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is still one of my favourite metal albums. The blend of black metal guitars & drums, cinematic orchestrations and tied together with electronic synths and vocal effects. The contrast of Shagrath’s aggressive vocals with Vortex’s almost angelic operatic sections gives so much variation. The album feels like a full band brought their A game and all worked together to craft such incredible music. This song is a prime example of packing so many elements together without feeling forced or gimmicky.
@@Jdemonify they are still good, but for me, something is missing from the music since Vortex and Mustis are no longer part of it. Maybe I am also nostalgic for the wonder they gave me when I was in highschool and they released this album (2001).
Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is PEAK Dimmu...everything clicked, perfect balance between melody and darkness. A true masterpiece. Not one bad song, all killer no filler! I didn't think it really needed to be remastered. The albums before, yes.
Nick Barker's work on this album set the pattern for all the technical extreme metal bands that came after. Earth shattering, quick, precise AND extremely musical. Best line-up too (even though I'd have loved to hear Astennu playing some of his solos here)
No, the new mix doesn't work. The high freq's on the guitars and the more clicky drum sound gave the album a modern, and one might say "industrial" feeling to the songs. This is all gone now. It is not a matter of which mix sounds "better" but which one represents the songs more accurately. Obviously, it is the band's decision and preferences. But I still prefer the original version.
@@kingpriapatius5832 I have compared both versions and, although the original has its uniqueness, it is quite loud and full of conflicting frequencies, which makes it messy. The new one mellows the sound a bit, but evens out everything and you can hear details barely audible before. It now feels like a more beefy Death Cult Armageddon.
I've been listening to Dimmu Borgir since this album came out, I've always loved them and I still do, and the absence of Vortex continues to be heard, one of the most beautiful male voices I've ever heard, precious.
I saw Arcturus in Milan in 2019, I was completely in a trance... they played divinely, almost all the songs from Aspera, La masquerade, The Sham Mirrors... wow. I'm too glad I had that experience.
Dimmu’s last truly good album was back in 2007. I think they just need to suck it up and get vortex and mustis back in the band. They’ve tried shows with a full orchestra and choir and it doesn’t come close to sounding as good as two people they stupidly let go.
The simplified guitar work has been what has killed it for me. Dimmu was always guitar driven first and foremost, with sick riffs that could stand on their own, but then they take it even further with orchestral elements. The last 2 albums have been so lacking in guitar riffage/heaviness that they went from being one of the best bands in existence to a mildly interesting curiosity. A lot of bands have a quality drop off in their later years, but none hurt quite as much as dimmu when there are so few bands in existence that are on their level.
I am very happy to visit this amazing album in a remixed and remastered version. I hope you Nuclear Blast release the dark, fabulous and intense Death Cult Armageddon in the near future as well. all of us fans will be forever grateful! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I love Dimmu borgir!!!!

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is a classic iconic album, ICS Vortex bass guitar with his clean voice in contrast to Shagrath 'grunting' vocals, incredible drums by Nick Barker, the orchestral symphonic parts by Mustis, and the guitars by Silenoz and Galder.
Twenty years ago I bought this album because one of the songs "Puritania" appeared on a CKY video. It was my only Dimmu album until about 5 years ago when i started buying European versions of the catalog. Finally picked up Eonian last month and was shocked it came out 4 years ago! For 4 years I've been like "didn't Dimmu just release a new album? Must remember to pick it up." Anyway, bring back keyboardist Mustis and clean vocalist ICS Vortex, thaaanks.
i doubt Vortex would return especially full time, iirc their split wasnt in the greatest of spirits plus he now is the Lead Vocalist for Borknagar again after Vintersorg retired due to health reasons
I really miss old Dimmu... I feel like the last album they released was like a disney version of Dimmu. I absolutely loved Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia.

I understand that this much more full sound is better from a mixing perspective, but I kinda like that metal saw sorta stabbing sound that the album originally had. I appreciate the toning down of that kick though. That's something I liked when I was younger that I don't like anymore. I like just the faintest hint of clicking with a more wide bass feel underneath.
I love this song and album, but It didn't need a remaster. The original mix is better in my opinion. There are other albums that really could use a remix, not this one.
I heard the whole thing today. Really felt the diference, but pem did not needed this "touch". Since you guys are spending money with old things, pay attention to death cult Armageddon. This could be amazing!
as much as I see Dimmu evolving, the Vortex/Mustis/Barker era will always be dear to my heart
Galder fresh out of Old Man´s Child was insanely creative too.
Mustis made Dimmu for me
Vortex/Mustis/Barker/Astennu

It's a wall of sound with so many layers to it. It's absolutely beautiful and profane at the same time.
@Quentin P no this is not parody of black metal. It is not black metal at all!
