This episode is about stealing millions of dollar worth of diamonds from a thief who stole the diamonds from someone else. The guy with a bread and mustache wearing white suit leaving the room is the diamond thief, who has all the stolen diamonds in this hotel room in a secret closet and protected by all kinds of electronic and sensors. So, MacGyver enters the hotel room to steal the diamonds back from the thief with a help of a lady friend playing games in casino. It is an interesting episode, which was on TV recently.
True, but he wanted to make sure the camera wasn't going to catch any part of him walking up to or hacking the hotel room lock. This way security people will think that it was some sort of interference and move on with their duty without think anything of it leaving MacGyver to do what he came to do without too much trouble. :)

That's one of the biggest CCTV camera I've ever seen. Back in those days these things costs thousands of dollars, each. Just the camera only. That's not including the video recorder. And all for a piss poor image. Can't even read a license plate from 20 ft away.
Good Question, but you see it had to be removed as soon as MacGyver was in the hotel room. So, the security people wouldn't think too much of it and move on. As soon as the guy told the other guy sitting in the security room that the camera was fine, they probably thought it was just an interference or something and didn't care about it. Really, if you ask me, it was an overkill, because there was just too big of a BLIND SPOT. He could have simply crawled along the wall and the floor... lol...
