I own a Ultra ltd 2021, for 7 months now. I drive in twisties in Luxemburg and my friend on his new Yamaha 900 Tracer GT had problems to keep up with me! This year is was at the 120th HD party in Budapest and drove back with 160km/u trough Germany……no hassle at all❤❤❤❤❤
I think the best way to answer the wind question is, how much more or less fatigued are you with the ultra vs glide. Most folks seem to honestly say less fatigued with the glide because the “effort you need to control the bike at high speed or adverse weather” isn’t noticeable all the time.
Great point and I agree the Road Glide makes a difference there!
I just love the beginning of this video. Bottom line is you ride what you feel comfortable with. Thank you for sharing this detail. Ride safe.
Thanks John I totally agree with you, whatever bike that you best
Bob I agree with you on pretty much all you said. As mentioned before I went from a '15 Road Glide to my '20 Street Glide and prefer my SG. I am in the same boat with about 5% difference on the highway after I got my SG set up the way I have it. I don't get any buffeting but once in a while feel some semi trucks when I pass them if the wind is a certain way, not a biggie though. I don't like where the speedo and tach are on the RG as a FF or modular helmet blocks them out. I have to tilt my whole head down to see them where as on the SG I just flick my eyes down a bit. Many people say they prefer the low speed handling of the RG but it always felt cumbersome to me. The little phone compartment on the SG is rather small, RG pockets are great. I took the foam insert out of mine to make more room. I use my handle bar mount all the time unless it is pouring rain. I have a lightning cord run from the compartment through the fairing and then up the left handlebar to my phone. It has to be plugged in to get full use of the infotainment system and car play. For looks they both have certain angles I like and dislike. Overall I kind of like the look of the batwing a bit more. Until I bought my current bike any bike I had owned in the past was always a frame mounted type so this is the first fork mounted fairing I have had. In the end however they are the exact same bike with different bars and fairing. The rest is all the same and I wouldn't say no to owning either one. Great video.
edit: I forgot that I like the way my hands are behind the fairing on the SG, it keeps them much warmer in our cold climate. On the RG the outside half of each hand was out in the breeze. Many of the guys up here with RG fairings are putting hand guards on to deflect the wind off of their hands. Sort of like brush guards on a dirt bike but smaller.
Great comment Doug and I always loved my SGS, I have loved every bike I have had. We are all lucky to ride and have choices
The best bike is the one that feel right for you 👍
Amen to that Viper
Thanks for the review. I like the looks of the UL better but I like the apparent space available and what appears to be better airflow to the rider of the RGL.
understand that feeling and had to learn to love my ugly baby at first, now I love it. Both great bikes!
I bought a 2020 Ultra. Sorry but not a fan of the looks of the shark nose especially cockpit view. To each there own that is why we have a variety.. Glad to hear you are enjoying..
Totally agree they are both great bikes
I took the road glide out on a demo ride...I own the ultra limited....what I noticed on the highway...the ultra....yes you feel the wind in the bars a little....with the road glide I could feel it through the whole bike...both still moved around in the wind...but not enough for me to say to someone you need to get the X model...and not the Y model!!...great video...stay safe...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Thanks my friend and both good bikes I say. Hope your riding a bunch up there!
Thanks bro, I liked my 2014 Street Glide bike so much that I took it on several rides until it hit 60k km, it's great 👍🏼
Thanks and that’s some good mileage, ride safe
I owned a Street Glide and enjoyed the bat wing fairing. But after riding the shark nose I’d prefer the Road Glide. Just better for wind deflection. In my opinion. Good video.
Thanks Smitty, they’re all good bikes. Hope you’re enjoying your new one
I look at the batwing now and it looks like someone punched in the fairing!!!
I love the RG now! In comparison to my StreetGlide!
As far as wind I have noticed a difference with wind for sure!!
Great video!!
Thanks and haha on the "punched"
Pre Rushmore batwing fairings blocked the wind way better than the current Rushmore batwings. In fact I hated it enough to go buy a 2019 Road glide ultra. Love the way the Road Glide fairing manages the wind as long as I keep the vents closed.
Why Harley put non closable vents in a full fairing is beyond my comprehension and a deal breaker in my opinion.
Hard to disagree there Ken.
🛑🛑 I’m a CVO Ultra Limited guy.
I think both Ultra and Roadglide are the same basic bike, except for the fairing differences.
What has kept me in the “Ultra Camp” is that the Dash Instrumentation and Navigation Screen are too far away on the Roadglide and have “older eyes” (need reading glasses since cataract surgery) I can’t read the map being displayed.😂👍.
Both great bikes and I loved my ultra limited, sure the CVO is just even sweeter
Ive owned both, there is an absolute difference, the shark nose just dominates the wind on the highway, people who told me that theres little to no difference are mostly sales people trying to sell either or, i love both, but when it comes to 80mph 12 hour days there is no comparison
100% agree, when you have had both, it is crystal clear
I have a 2018 ultra limited and like the batwing over the sharknose glides .also had 3 street glides
I have had each one of those motorcycles as well, love them all
I love my Ultra, even if it does have three wheels!! Gravel roads don’t scare me!!! 🤓 I love the CarPlay access. I listen to Sirius XM radio with my cell phone. Love the unlimited selection of genre available…
You are on the road and happy, what else is there I say! Ride safe
Good information in this video. Thanks for sharing. I own an Ultra. Next bike might be Road Glide Limited. I’ve ridden both and not much difference for me other than looks more storage space on Road Glide fairing.
They are both great bikes Paul and I will tell you I use the fairing cubby all the time
Bob, I like the RG and think that is a good choice. Of course I like the frame mounted fairings but I am biased, I ride the Goldwing. All the storage and ease of handling makes the RG or GW the logical choice. Thanks for sharing with us.
My pleasure and all of them are good bikes
Great content my friend. I will stay with "Black Betty", but I still think or you as family. Be well and be safe.
Right back at you my friend
Thanks for the review, I’m at that point of which one to buy. I too love the look of the Batwing, but the Shark nose is right up there now. I’m going to ride one soon, have you noticed much of a difference if any in how the two shed the rain? I always hear about the wind on the highway but what about the rain, better, no difference? I can say without even riding it yet I could do either, but will definitely lay down some miles on one (RG) first. Thanks for any insight on this matter.
They are both great motorcycles but I fall on the Road Glide side for sure, it simply rides better when cruising higher speeds. The first time you go by a truck you will go wow. As far as the rain, I don’t have enough rain time with the Road Glide to say, I suspect the Ultra may be better there. Good luck and you can’t go wrong either way! Ride safe
Hey BoDean love your new bike just curious when caught in rain is there a difference between Ultra Limited and Road Glide limited. Possibly a new video stay safe out there
Thanks Steve that would be a good video. There is a rain mode on the road glide that I have not used yet, I appreciate the suggestion. Ride safe
The debate drags on. I will say that the popularity of the RG has exploded in the last few years. Lots of people love them. My 2021 Ultra Limited is a lot more secure feeling around trucks at 75mph than my old Ultra Classic was. What can I say? I’m a batwing guy. 🤷♂️
Nothing wrong with that, they are both great bikes John
To each his own, but my choice is the Road Glide. I just like the looks more.
Well I can agree considering I have a new one 👍😎
I like the 15+. 13 down not so much as far as looks.
Nice honest fair reviews of both models!! 💪👏👏 The great SWAMI says there is a fixed wing in the future for me!! 🤣👏👏🧙♂️
Oh I’m all giddy for you I can’t wait to see what you’re gonna do. Any hints?
@@BoDean52 No press leaks yet...next year for sure though...😂😎
Hey bodean was wondering how u did the break in on your road glide, new owner question saw your video how many miles did u go before a long trip thanks for vid
Great question and I did a lot of local riding (following Harley break in) before to get to first the 500 miles they recommend but then the 1000 service. I took a 1600 mile trip but only after the $1k service.
Ive had 2 Ultra Classics but ride a 2019 Road Glide Ultra now. I'm 6'6" and didn't realize how cramped I was until I got the Road Glide.
Totally same for me, the Mustang seat helped but nothing like the glide
It’s all in personal choice. And comfort
I totally agree Jeff, they are both great bikes just go try them out was really my point
I went from a Street Glide to a Road Glide! I prefer the Road Glide for touring and its looks!
Had both bikes and both great, RG man here for sure
The handlebars are very different. The Road Glide Glide bars are more of a buckhorn style that come back to you - which makes it more comfortable for me on long rides. The Street Glide bars have the rider leaning forward more - a better position for me when doing slow speed maneuvers. My favorite is the Road King police motorcycle. Man, that bike handles great - but sacrifices some comfort.
Yeah I ended up flipping out the bars on my RG and love them. My Road King Classic has those bar and I plan to keep them that way
I love the batwing look way much better and more than that I do not like straight stuck fairings.
Hear ya......I did not buy a RG for years because I did not like the look
I think when you said road glide I think you meant Goldwing 🤣. Glad you are enjoying your new bike. Personally if I were to get a HD touring bike it would be the road glide.
I hate when I slip up and don’t say Goldwing 😂
I do like the look of the batwing better then the shark nose fairing. I also like the instrument panel on the batwing better then the shark nose. The deciding factor for me is the fixed fairing. I have had three back surgeries making the frame mounted fairing a better benefit even with the extra pounds. The ventilation is better to me on the Road Glide.
I agree John but both good bikes. Ride safe
I have a 2021 road glide limited, installed speakers and an amp, I couldnt find the rear speakers harness to plug into the amp. Where are the rear speaker harness? I definitely need a book.
I am not positive but did you look behind the back of the seat up against the tour pack? I know I plug some Custom Dynamics lights back there
Just found your channel. Thanks for the info. I ride a 2018 Fatboy, and want to jump over to a road glide special or road glide limited.
I have test rode the SGS and RGS, liked both but leaning more too the RGS.
Thanks again
Ride safe
Welcome to my crazy world 😂. I LOVE my Road Glide and took it on long and short trips. Good luck on your choice and let us know which way you go! Ride safe
Thank you, and definitely we let you guys know.
Ride safe
Both are nice.
Agree Larry
Good video Bob. 👍🏻 To date, I have never ridden a Harley with a faring. I have ridden a BMW with a faring and did notice a reduction in visibility that I was not 100% comfortable with. Will have to test ride a Road Glide at some point to see if I feel the same way.
Stick with the BMW 🤣
@@Petesmotoadventure LOL!!! I did enjoy the RT, but I love my Harley. 😉
Pete has his picture like the post office in every Harley Davidson dealership that says wanted
Well you know I have a love affection for the king as well
Poor misguided Pete
I need to ride a road glide. I love my ultra so i don't think I would jump to a road glide but I do want to ride one so I can say I did it
Careful if you do that that’s how I started, they are both great bikes!
Corvette show near by? Good discussion. I have only owned a Road Glide. Almost went with the Ultra. It seems like wind would have a greater affect on a fairing attached to the bars. Looking back the only thing I wish I would have done was gotten lowers. Can always add those though. Ride Safe
I love car shows and Motorcycle shows and I need both soon 😂. The lowers are nice but a glides a glide
Like you I did not like the shark nose. My sales guy reminded me that I will not be driving it looking from the front of the fairing. He reminded me that I will be driving it from the seat, looking out over the fairing.
My main reason for buying my 21 Road Glide Special is because the fairing is attached to the frame. When I pick the bike up off of the side stand it feels balanced to me. When I was brining up any of the bat wing fairing models the front end was cumbersome. It did not like the lopsided feel until it was fully upright.
All good reasons for sure and the look is growing on me now. Ride safe
My big question is the road glide top heavier than the ultra glide or maybe
As heavy but easier to hold up right
Because of the difference of the faring
And the handle bars being positioned
Different I’m talking at a dead stop ??Thank you
Hi John, honestly I did not feel a huge difference. They are both heavy bikes for sure.
Both are gorgeous bikes. I like the road glide better but I have no idea cuz I have never own one lol
Me too and we have Road Kings so didn’t do that compare 😂
Wow, holy Corvette convoy Batman! 3:20
Always liked Vets but more of a Mustang man
I think to sum it up they both cost the same and it is really a personal choice. I love the Road Glide line and will always have a fixed fairing bike of some sort I find it easier for me to handle. But I loved my Ultra also when we had that bike. So when you get right down to it I feel it is whatever the person likes the best. Hey, we can't convert the entire Harley riding club to the RG it would put all of the Ultra people out of work. Ride Safe
Totally agree. Individual decision
Love my RGL
Me too…..it’s actually an uncomfortable love too 😂
What's up brother. Stay safe
Thank you kind sir and right back at ya
I might have to go test ride a Glide. When I got here I had wrote it off and was only looking at the Ultras and Street Glides.
I won’t buy one but I would like to see if I feel a difference.
All three of those are great bikes as far as I’m concerned Ron
I am more of a stripped down version of the motorcycle so it would be Road Glide for me. Personally I ride the Street Glide and add the luggage for trips.
I had a 2016 SGS and loved it!
I can say that my 2019 Road Glide Special handles much better on the road than my 2007 street glide but to be fair there are more differences than the fearing on these bikes so its not really a fair comparison. I need to ride an M8 Street glide to really compare the two. I really think there both great bikes I could easily ride either one but I do prefer the fearing/dash on the road glide. It doesn't matter how close the dash is you don't have to reach for it anyway you can do everything from the hand controls. In fact I am an older guy that uses reading glasses and the fact that the GTS is further away makes it easier for me to see it.. :-)
That’s funny and same for me Bob on the reading glasses. They are both great bikes
I’ve ridden both RG and SG, not Ultra though, pretty much the same. My only problem with the RG is I have to tilt my head back to use my bifocals to see the screen,I know getting old.
Haha the challenges we have
does the phone mount prevent vibrations enough to prevent damage to the phone?
Motorcycle Smartphone Mount Options - Is Ciro 3D the Answer? This is a video you can find on my channel about the mount. It locks in tight and does not move any, still love it
I’ve rode both and it came down to aesthetics for me. I will tell you when I rode the RG, it definitely was a more smooth ride at higher speeds but the batwing wasn’t bad either. The eternal debate will continue…..
For sure and they are both great bikes, I’ll always love the look of the bat wing better for sure
@@BoDean52 love the Electra with the batwing but on the open road I take the Road Glide anytime plus I like the extra space behind the fairing
If you had a ugly dog but, he or she was just the best dog in the world for multiple reasons. You would still love that ugly dog. You love the ride that the Road Glide gives you compared to the Street Glide. I haven’t test rode either one because I’m not prepared to upgrade right now. When I do I will road test both but, will probably end up with the Road Glide limited. Just my guess looking at the other reviews. Ride safe. Thanks for your input. 👍
Thanks Mike and I sure love my road glide limited
I have ridden both and yes there is some difference in handling with the road glide and like you said if you are a tall person you do have more room. You said that you thought the front of the road glide is ugly I feel that way X10. No way for me.
Both good bikes Rodney, helps if you just ride both before you buy in my opinion
If you were buying with the intention of a passenger would that change your opinion? Thanks
That’s a great question and I don’t know. From a passengers perspective I don’t think it was that much different for my wife. My question would really be if she did not ride would I bought either one of them? Though they get a bad rap sometimes, I did love my street glide special
The fairing on my RG Limited is noisy and offers less protection. I get hit by bees. My ultra classic i traded off offered better protection. The lie that the frame mounted fairing was better in wind, wind affects my RG where the batwing wasn't an issue. The roadglide feels less top heavy and is easier in parking lots. I like my RG but honestly I hate bees smacking me in the face. 14" clockworks on mine... imagine how bad if I went smaller? No bike is perfect, I do love the Limited electronics.
They are both great bikes, ride safe
I road both in high winds. After that I bought my road glide limited
Agree there is a larger difference than most say, touring in the RG was sweet
What mic setup do you use?
Are use a go pro 7 on my chin for video and a Sena 10c pro for audio. Works for me
@@BoDean52 so your sena can connect to your gopro.....looking into doing my own gopro helmet cam setup....thanks for the info
@@randywheeler3914 no Randy it can’t, I mix the two when in editing
Why does a person have to replace the seat with an after market? Both the Ultra and Road Glide are supposed to be luxury touring bikes, and this review now has a slant to that is based on a non OEM seat. Would have loved to know how the HD seats are?
Great question and funny you asked that as I just filmed a one year Mustang review that will come out Friday. I am one that believes the H-D stock seat is halfway decent and you don’t have to replace. For me, I needed something to set me back. I did a review of the Mustang compared to the stock that I will link for you
ua-cam.com/video/qtAZ4sXGquk/v-deo.html
Biggest difference that I see is the weight. Really feel the difference off the side stand. Road glide ultra is 25-30 lbs more than the Ultra. It comes from extra braketry an fairing, so weight is up High.
Both good bikes to me.....ride safe
On the open road the extra weight is a welcome bonus . The bumps fade away .
How about a tri glide trike?
Never rode one but see it in my future
‘Some times you feel like a nut,… some times you don’t”
Hahaha most of the time I do!
Best touring Harley? Neither the Road Glide or Electra Glide Ultra… It’s the Road King no question! Question: does the Mustang just sit you back or is it back and down? I’m also 6’3” and I’d like sitting back but definitely not lower.
Well you know I have a Road King as well but the question really was just comparing the two bikes. As far as I’m concerned the Mustangs he just sits me back
I was hanging on every word waiting for you to come out of the closet. 😂I don’t get the back and forth between the road glide and the street glide, but an ultra in black “the way God intended it to be” lol. Agree ride what you like (even if it is ugly) 👍
Totally agree with you for once 😂😂. You are one person I have on the list of people I need to ride with my friend
@@BoDean52 there is a ride in Tazwell 26-29 I will be there on the 27. Also there is a bike in Monroe Mi I’m trying to get the wife to look at lol
How about the handlebars ? Are you ok with these new ones ? First time watcher and listener asking …😂
You’re just trying to get me to spend money aren’t you Steve? If you were a true friend, you would send me bars and put them on my bike 😂😂😂
What , and deny you the pleasure of buying him and Having them installed like you did the last time you did on the first bike. And while we’re on the subject don’t forget the new mufflers you have to put on there and the new lighting etc….. well you know better than me when the madness starts with you only you can stop it. But I love watching to see what you do next . It’s like a train wreck I just can’t look away . Take care Brother … later 😎🤘
Why is this even a question anymore?? Road Glide is hands down the best. Case closed.
I don't disagree...some others do
99.9% of my riding is not on the interstate... It's around town or on back roads. It is for that reason and for that reason only that I'll always prefer an ultra limited. If my life was on the interstate I'd take the road glide.
Great point!
Be safe and keep the rubber side down.
Right back at you my friend
This debate is much like the toilet paper question...you know, do you hang it over or under on the spool. For many years I hated a fairing, I never wanted one nor a windshield. As I've aged creature comforts came into play. I too am a fan of the Batwing fairing as opposed to the Shark nose fairing. It's purely from aesthetic point of view. I just don't care for the look of the shark nose, never have, probably never will. The difference between them is not enough to change my view. In the end, it all comes down to personal preference, like most things in life. Ride what you like because nobody else is the pilot seat when you are enjoying what many don't understand.
Totally agree on preference for sure and for me the toilet paper MUST BE OVER!
Me too but I've gotten to the point of staying away from the discussion....lol
HA! "The Honda Davison" the fairings but ugly IMO. That said...some people like em ...and 1980 s Goldwings too. I know they get pushed around much more in strong side winds than a Batwing fairing does. Just look at the difference in side profile ... makes sense .The Batwing has a nice tapered side profile. I find I get better wind protection with a Batwing as well. Now maybe at 80+ mph the RG maybe ok too but. For me personally. Given I hate the 80s honda look. Never
I held off getting a Road Glide for so long because I didn’t like the look but now it’s like my ugly child that I love 😂
@@BoDean52 why did you feel you needed one?
I guess having a RoadGlide Ultra is about the best bike then? 😎
To me it is but hey they’re both good bikes
You know you've passed over the "old line" when you start complaining about other drivers passing you... 😐 "Bah!! passing me when I'm doing blah-blah mph and the speed limit is blah-blah mph" .... 😂🤣, This is in fact worse then when Colin got passed by the box truck ...Bahahaa!!!! okay maybe not that bad..
There is nothing worse than him getting passed by a box truck and a man on the old man
@@BoDean52 .. and him with a Stage IV and all..for shame
I think the fact that (just like me) you had an ultra and now you're on a Road Glide says everything you need to know. :-)
Great observation but still both great bikes
It took 5 minutes into the video for me to figure out what motorcycles you were talking about. You keep saying ultra, like there's not an Electra Glide Ultra and a Road Glide Ultra...Come on now?
Sorry that took you so long to figure out Joey. It’s a 2018 ultra limited and my new bike is a 2021 road glide limited.
After Owning 5 Different Roadglides My "Personal" Theory is Roadglide or No Ride!!😂👍🏻❤
Amen Mike
Oh come on be honest it's the Road King, who are you trying to convince ?
Well I was asked to compare the Road Glide and the Ultra but you know I have a King as well
I bought my Ultra Limited because of the looks. Road Glide just plain ugly in my opinion. Love my Ultra Limited
Agree about my ugly child haha. Enjoy that Ultra, its a great bike!
And you don't mention a word about those beautiful old Corvettes going by?? Blasphemy!!!!!!
I have focus issues Paul and you are right 😂
Neither. A BMW K1600 GTL
That is a great bike
Just don't like the looks of the road glide.
Me too 😂😂 until I bought one and now my ugly kid that I ❤️
