  • This flight was on June 14th 2024. I landed safely and was able to hike out of the field with everything intact! I wanted to make this video to demonstrate how important it is to always have an out, and to show people what happens when you lose power on a paramotor!

Nice way to handle the engine problem. It's good you had a person to help!

Try stow your wing bag under the seat when flying. I know from experience that its a pain in the ass to carry that wing when landing out. Glad you landed safe.

One or two more pulls on the starter may have solved your issue here. Practice this engine out thing! Consider taking at least a P2 free flying course. Conquering the geometry and scope of gliding to land where you want to, instead of where you end up, takes practice. It's always good to get better at it. Glad you made a safe landing.

@@YankeeinSC1 Thanks! I’ve done a few practice restarts in the air since this and I really want to get into free flying soon I just need to find the time lol.

You walked away, that is the best part. You live to fly again.

Pulling power out abruptly like that can shock cool a 2 stroke & it can seize up. 2 stroke are very temp sensitive. Not sure if that's what happened, but just some advise.

glad you were ok. Does it always idle that slow of an rpm?

This is a great example of why flying higher is safer. It gives you more time and options. Great landing. Did you figure out why the engine died?

Not exactly. We adjusted to carb and changed the spark plug and I could tell a huge difference in performance.

I want to get into this. I live up in ND and there's about 4 trees every 100 acres lol. Granted mostly everything is farmland so I have lots of fields to land in depending on what time of the year it is. As a farmer myself I'll land in my fields but hopefully other paramotor pilots are respectful when landing in someone's field. Some guys might get absolutely pissed and others would come to help you. Plus at the end of the day it is technically trespassing.

Yeah it’s a very fun sport and I highly recommend it. If you own fields you’ll be better off than most people in the sport. I try to only take off and land where I have permission but since we’re classified as an ultralight aircraft and this was an emergency landing, trespassing laws don’t 100% apply. FAR 91.3 (b) gives us the ability to make an emergency landing anywhere we see necessary, you just can’t stay there beyond reasonable time that it takes to resolve the incident. Although, my biggest fear is living in the South where everyone, especially land owners are armed lol.

@@drakeowen7860 oh that's cool there's a rule around landing in someone's property. I didn't know that. Like I said earlier it all depends on the land owner. Most people in my area wouldn't care. There's a few that would go irate. Stay safe man

@@drakeowen7860 I live in the South. The state I'm in now, doesnt consider anything trespassing, unless visibly marked or the controlling owner informs you. Its not trespassing until you refuse to leave. The stories arent true, people arent getting shot everyday, for being in a random field. You'll be asked to leave, but not shot. If this was the norm, the news would LOVE to preach about the stories. At any rate, I'll land where I can, in emergency. A land owner who fires upon me, will face charges, as I pose no risk and wasn't afforded the opportunity to leave. Good pick on the field, by the way! I noticed you picked the one without any crops planted. I'd have tried start her a little more tho. If it dies at idle, it may just be a carb setting that won't effect restart or above idle use. Thanks for the vid!

Technically you are allowed to land anywhere in an emergency. Land owner miht be pissed but it is allowed..

@@shanesplanetshane3795 My motor has died another time since this even after some tuning so I've ordered a rebuild kit for my carb and hope that will take care of it! As for the trespassing stuff, we've got some nasty complaints from neighbors and threats on Facebook about flying over certain fields. They can't do anything about it since we aren't doing anything illegal but it makes me think twice about the fields I'm flying over. The people in my area are dicks about it for some reason even though back in the 90s this place was an ultralight playground lol.
