  • The chronological retelling of the Ancestor's tragic story.
    This is a bit different than the usual Lore videos I produce because of the lack of on screen sourcing. I'll be making another Ancestor video explaining everything more in-depth with proper quotes and be able to justify my reasoning on why I put certain event where I did.
    This is not an official statement on the lore of the game.
    My thoughts, opinions, and theories are my own, and subject to change if new information is presented.
    I apologize in advance for the janky animations ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Been about 2...ish days. Hope everyone liked and enjoyed the video/movie. I said I would make a more typical video with the on-screen quotes to explain the timeline more in-depth and I will, but I wanted to tag something else onto that. If you had any questions about the video/movie, leave a comment to this and I'll try to answer it the best I can in the next video. I'm not an expert but I can explain my reasons or at the very least my thought process.

      It's strange that Ancestor managed to defeat the countess while being just a mortal human. Perhaps he had some occult powers already?
      Or maybe he was intentionally *allowed* to do it?

      @@dmitrymakovchik5091 The occult powers, I'm not too sure about, maybe he had some previous dealings with the occult, since he is surprisingly chill with the whole "Vampire almost killed me" thing. The Countess allowing him to defeat her is a possibility, and this is something I want to delve into with the Countess, she is one of the few "Independent" variables in the Estate. That she might have been an "Agent" for the Heart, or had some dealing with it in the past, since it's implied that her blood is the same as the Heart.

      TL;DR - I wonder what the story behind the Collector, Shambler and Thing from the Stars is and if The Sleeper and the Fanatic have something to do with the next game?
      SO we know of the countess, we know of the many main powerhouses that control their respective areas...but what of those in-between?
      What of the Collector, who constantly seeks the heads of heroes?
      What of the Shambler, for what purpose did it offer to the Ancestor save for either a source of power or a form of defence?
      What of the Thing from the Stars, for how could such a beast that was birthed from The Sleeper that was bound behind those very barries he erected?
      But then how does it all lead into out next story in this ever damning story, how does the light becom corrupted, causing feral creatures that cling to a false god, a false flame...
      We know that The Sleeper can bring about those powerful foes from our previous brawls but yet we never see The Fanatic...
      What if The Thing from the Stars was not the only thing to leave the farmstead andd spread it's malicous upon the lans once more...
      But hey, thats just a theroy, A GAME THEROY!
      Thanks for reading! :D

      TLDR, Maybe they'll return stronger than before or maybe we'll find their corpses or some other reference to them.
      So I did make a video on the Fanatic and his possible origins. I briefly talked about the Ancient and Comics forces in the Estate as well.
      The Collector we don't know too much aside from an Eldritch monster dimension jumping to collect more souls. Which is how he has the heads of heroes who may still be alive in our timeline. In another dimension, Dismas, Junia, and Barristan are dead. (My head-canon, pun-slightly intended, is the heads actually talk to the hero who is holding it, which is why they cause so much stress)
      Shambler I still don't know too much about. Currently two ideas. 1) unlocking the Door to the Darkest Dungeon sent out a beacon. Monsters and Cultists flocked to the Estate, their Mecca to Madness. Shambler was one of them. 2) The Shambler was something the Ancestor unleashed from the Dungeon/Cosmos. Not sure on the exact connection but seeing as the Shamber drops Ancestral Artifacts, he must have some sort of bond with the Creature. (It also can be infected by the Heart's corruption so that also favors the Not Part of the Heart Category)
      The Thing that Came from the Stars, I don't think it left the Farmstead but rather is trapped outside of it. When the Comet was landing, a piece broke off and landed outside of the Stone Slabs, that piece began forming into the Thing that Came from the Stars by absorbing animals and people outside of the Farmstead and now it's just kinda lost. Can't return to his "Home" because of the same pillars keeping the Sleeper in.
      Anyways, thanks for watching, and stay tuned! :D

      @JamesTAdams that's what the "well kinda" part was - just the ancestor trying to shift the blame, but failing to fully do so.
      Let's not forget the countess was some sort of eldritch monster before the ancestor did his deeds. It's very well possible that the ancestor only accelerated the mess that is the crimson court as opposed to being the sole cause like the rest of the stories around the hamlet. As in the crimson court story could have ended similarly if the ancestor didn't trick everyone into drinking the countess's blood.

    Rewatching this, I think I had a small realization. A True Deathless win, ultimately, beats the Ancestor and your suggested plan that he had. And that’s accomplished either with the perseverance of half a team (Hell, even Reynauld and Dismas), or by utilizing the many cursed elements of the Estate to defeat the Heart in such a manner, thereby the Ancestor providing the tools for his own defeat.

      As poetic as meet your maker is, I think just killing the heart of darkness is enough. The ancestor assumed you, the heir, would be another one of his victims, used to justify his means and revive the heart. Little did he know, through either godly command, idiotic perseverance, or a sure iron will, you successfully beat the heart and destroy his plans, even if you lost some heroes along the way. As they say, the end justifies the means.

      Yeah, a true deathless run really should give you a different speech at the end. Perhaps the Ancestor being baffled, annoyed, maybe even a little bit proud as he speaks of his ruined plans even while condescending that it was all pointless. He should definitely have a reaction to you not having sent anyone to die and only shedding the blood of madmen and monsters, even if the bloodshed still ultimately fuels his ambitions.

    I wonder if he was still sane when he contacted the heir, some far-off nephew probably living a relatively affluent life in some port, brought here to avenge his stupidity. Poor man whoever he was, hell, he probably thought the ancestor was still alive, but no, when he arrived he found a near-abandoned town and a madman, with only two scoundrels to protect himself, or maybe he lured the heir in to accelerate the process, nonetheless, the heir will know the tragic extent of their failings.
    Because let us not forget, in the crimson court the high society invites YOU, the player to partake in their debauchery, maybe to feast on you, to laugh at your demise, or just for a dance which you might return different from. Of course, instead of a daring young heir, they would welcome a pack of hardened mercenaries.

    I mean the theory that he sent the letter so that you'd send more people to their deaths and complete the ritual is somewhat supported by the game mechanics.
    On blood Moon difficulty if you lose more than... I think it was 12 heroes, the game automatically ends in a lose condition. This could be because 13 was the number of sacrifices the heart needed to fully revive. Then again I could just be reading way too much into this.

    This version of the Prophet's story fits so well with the sequel storyline so far, the idea that he KNEW the Ancestor was bringing about the end of the world but no one would listen. Also the idea that somehow he was being kept alive, maybe there was some force opposite the Heart that was using all of it's strength to keep one person on the path to help save the world. Then when the Prophet saw the heart maybe he saw that no matter what he did he would fail and that he would then (perhaps as punishment) have to live forever in hell because he couldn't die.

    4:10 and 5:30
    This seems wrong though.
    The final cutscene of Crimson Court clearly portrays him as creating this "Wine" made from the blood of the Countess, because of his degeneracy.
    He himself drank from the blood, but only a little, hence the wording of a "single drop", and from what is explained, it seems to hint that he wasn't only seeking new "experiences", it almost looks like he did this as symbolic vengeance towards the Countess.
    She wanted to consume the Ancestor, so the Ancestor consumed her.
    He unleashed the Crimson Curse as accident, and only "now" when he is older, does he reflect upon his hypocrisy, and hedonistic ways.
    Basically, you can imagine it with in-game mechanics that the nobles immediatelly became cursed by drinking the whole wine, but since the Ancestor drank only a drop, he experienced an incredible amount of "Stress" and saw a vision.

    • @MiskatonicMemorialist
      @MiskatonicMemorialist  3 роки тому +1

      It's plausible that his motivation was just his own degeneracy but it raises the question of why serve it to his guests? The way he talks about the Court in the prior cutscenes and opening, leads us to believe that he hated the Court. If it was a self-serving motivation, why bring it to the Court to share with others?
      While he did drink the blood, I assumed it was by accident. He was still raising his glass for a toast, about to reveal the truth behind the wine, when everyone began to transform, since they just started drinking as soon as they got the glasses. He drops his glass in shock, and a "single drop" that fell from his glass, gifted him with the vision. A full drink or swig would have driven him mad and transformed him like everyone else.
      The hypocrisy part I'm not sure I understand since he is adamant about how he refused to be labeled a hypocrite. Which is why he allowed the Court's degeneracy in the first place. He was a slave to his own vices, but in hindsight those were lesser when compared to someone like the Baron.

    • @KRIMZONMEKANISM
      @KRIMZONMEKANISM 3 роки тому +1

      @@MiskatonicMemorialist "...why serve it to his guests?"
      Why not?
      The Ancestor - at this time - is a slave of hedonistic impulse. Most people such as him, and the rest of the court were people who liked to "experiment" out of boredom.
      Sure, he could drink it alone, but if he enjoyed his pleasures alone, then why would he have the court in the first place? Hence it makes sense for him to "share" this new experience rather than doing so alone.
      "...I assumed it was by accident."
      As I looked more into it, yeah. It does seem more like an accident indeed. I imagine he was taking the glass to his lips just as it all began, and he accidently "kissed" his drink (as we commonly refer to, in my country, when someone takes the most gentle of sips). :p
      "The hypocrisy part I'm not sure I understand..."
      I worded things poorly, so I am to blame on this one.
      What I meant to say is that "back then" the Ancestor was just like the rest of the court, or at least he mostly was. And though he did despise some of the folk in that court, he did not voice his oppinion for fear of being branded as a hypocrite.
      The very Ancestor, now at an older age, realizes the error and decadence in his ways, and I was using it to further justify it as to why I thought that he "shared" his wine without malice, as opposed to wishing to poison the court, as this video claimed it to be. :p

    • @MiskatonicMemorialist
      @MiskatonicMemorialist  3 роки тому +1

       @KRIMZONMEKANISM
      We put the caveat of "Perhaps" as to his reasoning, since there are alot of theories about why he did what he did, because it was such a weird thing to do.
      I will say that him being bored was definitely the cause for a majority of problems. So it's definitely a possibility that he did just want to engage in some light hearted cannibalism. (Victorians am I right :p)
      My theory was that he just wanted to humiliate his peers in a sadistic prank, given the degeneracy of the Court, and since he hated most (if not all) of them, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Would be a fitting punishment, since in his eyes, they were parasites who feasted at his expense. Raises his glass for the toast, but doesn't actually drink it.
      The other theory was just a good ol fashion poisoning, since it was the blood of an Eldritch monster which for all he knew was toxic.
      I welcome any discussion on the Ancestor, since he's such a fasinating character. Given how much he messed up and that's just what we know, DD2 will probably reveal even more horrible stuff.

If he was intentionally trying to become part of the heart to obtain unlimited power, he would want heroes to stay away while he’s vulnerable. He’s now a timeless entity, the difference of a few weeks doesn’t matter. Also, then the ghosts wouldn’t be guiding you away from the hamlet to avoid stirring the heart, because that would just make the heart’s triumph inevitable.
