I've left a similar comment on a previous 107 video but I leave it again. I passed my driving test in 1982 & my bike licence a few years later. I've owned lots of vehicles from ratty old vans to powerful sports bikes to family cars to low-slung sports car. Last year I bought a Peugeot 107 simply because I was sick of haemorrhaging money on my gas guzzler. I was expecting frugal yet miserable motoring but I got the shock of my life because I absolutely adore the little thing. It reminds me of cars I was driving in the 1980s. It actually feels like I'm driving a classic without the fragility of a classic car. The engine note is intoxicating (it actually reminds me of a v twin Kawasaki ER6n I had) , the exhaust sounds throaty, the driving position is superb and it's just fun, fun fun! It feels like I'm piloting a dodgem. You'll be left for dead at the lights by people in their 3 litre turbo diesels and their hot hatches but it doesn't matter because you're having fun in your own space at your own pace. It actually relieves you of the stress of competing, because you can't. I still browse Autotrader and I dabble with ideas of getting something bigger and faster but then I sit in my 107, start driving and I'm immediately reminded why I don't want anything else. And then we have running costs of course. My recent service was half the price of a friend's monthly lease payment, a full set of quality tyres cost me £280, consumables like a wiper blade, oil filter, air filter etc are between 5 & 10 quid, there's no road tax, I get between 55 and 60 mpg and my insurance is cheap. ok I'm 59-years-old so I'm in a low bracket but it's still great value. lastly I thought I'd be bullied by other drivers because I'm in a small car but the opposite is true. Other drivers aren't threatened or intimidated by me so they tend to leave me be. Summary: Iconic cars and surely a future classic (unless the government gets its way and rid the country of all ICE cars.)
It’s funny how some cars just do that to you. We have a 2006 Hyundai Terracan that we bought new that has done over 250,000 kms. It’s almost as good now as when we bought her. We absolutely love the old girl, I find myself talking to her when I get in. Don’t judge lol.
Absolutely agree with these comments. My son has one and while he was at uni I used it for work, I found it quite liberating compared to driving a newer car, and very joyful indeed. Also reminded me of small cars from the 80s which I had when I was younger. The C1 is probably still significantly safer and cheaper to run than those cars were.
Totally agree with everything you said, own a 2013 C1. Zno tax, cheap insurance, 60 mpg, so dun to drive, I've had quite a few cars over the years. ,, £4k I paid for the C1 & what a bloody bargain, that 1.0 engine will still be going when I'm pushing up daisies 😂😂😂🎉
Totally agree with you. I bought a 2010 107 for £1400, with a long MoT back in 2019. I can't bring myself to part with it, as it's great fun and so reliable. I can fix and service it myself. Just need to sort the bumpers, which are like those on the car in the video.
I've just received a free Peugeot 107 2013 Allure from my father in law. Done 60,000 miles, been serviced every year and it runs like a dream. Amazing little cars and so popular. Economical, reliable, and fun to drive. I love it, and will run it into the ground. Headlights need buffing a little and needs a full service but other than that doesnt need any money spent on it.
My first car! Had a 2009 C1. Fantastic little motors, but don't buy one that's spent any of its life by the sea as they're exceptionally rust-prone. Otherwise relatively bulletproof and wonderfully straightforward to learn basic maintenance on. I sold it for more than I bought it (£1190 > £1399) and upgraded to a 2015 Nissan Note last December.
I really enjoy your enthusiasm, Matt, for cars some might find dull . I used to drive a 4x4 4.7l petrol V8 Toyota Tundra and now I drive a 2013 Honda Jazz Si - it’s a perfectly good car for my needs. Can’t go anywhere like my Tundra, and is probably even slower than that tank, but it’s just so reliable and cheap to run. I’ve been thinking of moving into a newer Audi TTS next but I just love the little Jazz’s can do attitude. When I bought it, it provided freedom at a time when I needed to feel freedom the most. Sometimes we just love a car for other reasons than how fast it can go or what fancy gadgets it has.
Your "sadness" is infectious. I got giddy when I noticed a 2014 Ford Focus with the weather strip NOT poking out of any of the doors! She asked what the hell I was excited about and didn't share it I'm afraid!
Nothing to be embarrassed about, I've noticed many of them in past week or so with rubber noodles dangling from the doors, sometimes more than one. It just shows that you are observant. Then again, my giddy moments this week were noticing the same Suzuki Kizashi twice so maybe I'm not the best to comment...
Best first car ever - my daughter has one - had it for 4 years. Never went wrong and a full service used to cost £25 !!! Bought for £1,600 and sold for £900 😁
I had a black 107 urban as my first car 9 years back. Cheap to run and everything. Had to change the clutch and used a bigger clutch plate which the newer ones were fitted with. Had a Citroën C1 and another newer 107 before going to a VW Up
@@zaink7037 My current (and first) car is a 2010 black peugeot 107 urban and it's a brilliant thing to drive, and it's very good on fuel as I found out about 2 weeks ago when I drove around 140+ miles and it hardly used any.
We had an original Aygo of a similar age which we sold at 5 years old, the electrics were dodgy, heater blower rheostat had gone and it let in water in the boot by the bucket load. Despite that, I still see it locally occasionally. Its still only done 60,000 miles and has never failed an MOT.
I had a C1, and in the 5 years I had it the only thing that needed replacing were tires and wipers. It was so well screwed together and changed completely reliable and fault free. Absolutely fantastic little motor. Also, that little 3cyl made a great noise as you revved it out, like an angry puppy.
Pre Covid we traded the Argo version in and got £2000 on a 12 plate with only 52k on it. Just shows you how mad prices have been and still are after Covid. I still think dealers are taking the proverbial with their margins. World is officially bonkers
I bought an 85000 mile Aygo for my son as his first car. Loved it. He even survived spinning three times on the A12 and hitting the concrete barrier and shortening it each end by 6 inches.
These are indeed great little cars. Several years ago, a friend got one from the "bargain basement corner" of a local dealer. Not only did he like it, I liked his one so much that I bought a C1 to go along with it as a second fun car. Not only that, it became my daily driver for work commuting. The cars capture a lot of the fun and basic motoring enjoyment that came with the original Mini, but they have the reliability, and some of the sophistication of more modern motoring. As a cheap, economical, well-established, popular little car, there are lots of after-market fun things that people make especially for them and the simplicity of the cars means that working on them is pretty easy. It's real no-frills stuff, but that's actually part of the pleasure. After several years of fun motoring, both of us parted company with our respective cars but I know from Govt. tax and MOT records, both cars are still passing MOTs and are on the road.
Great video as always Matt. I bought one of these almost four years ago for my son as his first car. 2010 plate with 70k miles from a local dealer who only sells C1s, 107s and Aygos. We paid £2k for it I think. It's 3 door and has Aircon, it's black. It's been generally very good indeed. Apart from needing tyres and servicing (which i do myself) it had the leaky boot / rear lights. Very easily rectified for peanuts. My daughter now shares the car with my son. I am pretty sure it won't have lost too much value given the way prices are. They are also very good fun to drive in my opinion and as others say, have real character. Keep up the good work.
Matt You should pull the wheel covers of the cars and spray the steel rims in Matt Black. It just finishes the look better than rusty steel rims poking through the covers.
I had two Aygos a 2021 for 3 years and now the new 2024 Aygo X and they are amazing never had an issue I love them especially the new Aygo X it has so much equipment for a great price not to mention how brilliant Toyota dealers are the customer service they provide is fantastic.
I understand your enthusiasm for these cars and I can tell you why you feel that way. It's because they have soul. They have bags of character. They're cheeky, fun, reliable, frugal and capable. In a way they're more of a supercar than a Ferrari.
Had an aygo of that modelyear, loved the simplicity and fuel efficiency of it. Perfect for the city where i live. Bought it for 999€ (prices here in germany are higher than in UK in general) and drove it for ~2 years before the motor died (at 125.000 km). Didnt bother to get it fixed - it served me well for what it cost me. I noticed the exact same issues that you mention (almost frightning): - cracked hazard light switch (5€ and easy to change) - exhaust rusted (almost through) (50€ and just 4 screws) - rear drum break pads needed changing (12€ if you can do it yourself) - various parts had the read paint faded/clearcoat peeling (didnt bother to fix it) Unfortunately the next Aygo model (2014-2022) is still more expensive than other cars in that segment, so i bought a Kia picanto instead.
These are the bread and butter of my small used car business, sold more of them than any other car! Rate them so much, peppy great to drive and absolutely bomb proof
£3k is definitely fair. Nowadays I always think £1k for every year someone wants it to last is good value, in that condition it could last someone 3 years easily 😀
As you say a great 1st car and also a daily commuter too. Please please paint the steel wheels black, the wheel trims will stand out more and match the standard of the rest of the car. Shout out to Jimmy, looks a stunner in red.
Love your choices of real cars, the ones that real people want to own. This is such an uplifting video, you did well out of it, the car looks brilliant, and someone is going to get a first car that they will never l forget. Great stuff, Matt.
Love to see the meat and two veg of a car dealers backbone, sometimes find these more interesting than the more expensive vehicles, as they come over as achievable for the lower end cost of the market and shows with some TLC you can turn around a unloved car ❤😢
These triplet s are fun to drive. They only has two speeds. Full stop or full throttle and they sounds good full throttle 👍 The little Daihatsu engine is a gem
This is quite a unique example, with such low mileage. What a transformation, this little 107 looked like new at the end of the video. Well done Matt❤.
Thing that do go wrong. Water in the boot. High level brake light seal perishes and lets the rain in. Easy cheap fix. Higher mileage , the timing chain starts rattling, and fuel guage can become tempremental, and show fuel that you haven't actually got. All run of the mill stuff though. Cracking cars, but watch out for rust at the back of the sills near the rear wheel arches.
I had the Argo auto in white 4 doors with flappy paddles on the steering wheel I got it new in 2012 , I traded it in for a auris hybrid 2015 excel but I only got £2900 for trade in with 56,000 miles on it, the only problem I had with the Argo was it burned out the fan motor after only having it 6 months, but got it replaced under warranty, it’s a practical car for town and country roads.
I love how basic they are. Most of my colleagues drive newer cars with all the gadgets and gizmos. they're ok for a few years but then they all start failing and costing big money to fix. My 107 has a speedo, a rev counter, front electric windows and a radio. that's pretty much it and it's all I need, in fact it's more than I need because I'd actually prefer manual wind windows. Legendary car along with the Aygo and C1.
£3k for '06 plate 107 seems a bit steep to be fair. Considering there's pretty much an identical '07 plate Aygo in the autotrader with pretty much the same mileage on for £2495. But Matt knows his stuff, so he must be right.
It was probably £9k brand new back 2006 if not less, its crazy how much they're still worth for a car thats pushing 20 years old. Such a shortage of small, cheap, reliable and fuel efficent cars now though.
Good thing, that Airvidox kit. I bought and used one because you rate them so highly. My newer old car's cigarette smell gone overnight. I reckon the manufacturer of those kits must owe you something by now because I doubt I'm the only one buying them because you spoke so highly of them
Got one for my son who is 17. Insurance (lowest I could find was £1200 for a newly qualified driver) + £1000 purchase cost of the car +£50 for a service. £20 road tax. The complete package cost less than just the insurance on other cars I was looking at. Fun little thing to drive as well + like a tardis in the front. I am 6'1" and loads of room.
seen these with over 200,000 miles on them ive got a 2009 c1 and its got 103,000 miles on it will happily sit on a motorway and is actually fun around your favorite roads as it holds the road well,im having to use it everyday for work due to the ulez so my bigger and faster volvo s60d5 just sits and home waiting to be used for the weekend.proberly going to get some lanoguard underneath it in the nxt couple weeks to protect it.
I bought one of the first C1 what I saved on fuel on my commute more than paid for a brand new car, first of a new breed of high MPH. no Central locking or A/C over 100000 trouble free miles had a lump in my throat when I sold it, and at 6'3" loads of head room
Rusted sills are a common problem on these. Because it's a Toyota with a different badge it would have been better galvanized if it was a Peugeot or Citroen.
Ah i used to have one of these as my first car 9 years ago. Fun, cheap little cars. Had a C1 and another newer shape 107 whilst i sold my non ulez compliant car.
Said it before and will say it again, there is just something honest about a base car that doesn’t try to win you with the latest technology, it’s actually possible to drive feel every move and hear every sound.
Brown's Peugeot as in the Louth dealer. They went under a long time ago, 2008. My old man bought a couple of cars from them and they were always good. Was a surprise to see their sticker in the rear window.
My mum lent me her 2008 aygo for a few days while I was carless recently and I couldn't help but wonder what Matt would have thought of it. It's a bit scruffy, made very strange noises, the indicator stalk didn't work properly and the clutch has about a centimetre of biting point. I must point out I had a 58 ex demo aygo and I loved it so it was a bit nostalgic. Having spent a week with my mum's rust bucket, I fell in love with it again. They are just good fun. You are lucky it wasn't sunny though because I'd forgotten - when it's bright sunshine, the dash reflects on the windscreen and you can't see a thing!
Had one of these as a rental car for a hoilday in the Algarve. It was pretty new and served us well throughout our holiday. Only problen was we went to a local town one evening with lots of back streets, when it got dark we had trouble finding it again probably partly because it was black! Looks like you got a good un there once it had been fettled - probably won't hang around long.
Check for water under the spare wheel in the boot. It comes in through the rear lights. There’s a plastic plug you can remove to drain it out. Easy to fix on UA-cam
I have a C1 to drive to work, I've got other nicer cars, but my wife and I use the C1 all the time. Never worry about where we park it, geat in a car park and runs on air. Also, it's actually quite fun to drive, slow, but you can chuck it into corners. It sort of reminds me of a mini classic.
Occasionally I sell a car, usually from not using it or being bored with it, and I always try and make sure I don't give a prospective buyer any issues he might want to negotiate the price over. That tie wrap on the RF wheel hub cap would make me look deeper for "negotiation points" since it would indicate the previous owner was a cheapskate. Hope you caught that. On the flip side I've always told my son that the worst thing you can do is be interested in a perfect car because there's nothing to negotiate the asking price with. ;-) Love the good news videos.
My son has a 57 plate red 107. The lacquer has peeled off the front and rear bumpers. A quick buff and a spray of lacquer will hopefully get them looking as good as new
I have to say I so prefere the older cars from back in the day, and the 107 is a great little city car, so yeh great video great car and well done you did get it so cheap and low mileage win win 🏆 👍
I'd love this - much as I love my E39 BMW, it's expensive to run, insure, and with 225,000 miles on the clock I'm worried it's going to cost me a lot at some point. I had a Citroën AX GT prior to the BM, loved that too!
A friend of mine was selling his Hyundai i10 - a 1.2 litre manual transmission with only 15K miles on the clock and FSH, always kept in his garage, for £3,000 and my girlfriend bought it from him at that price and she is very happy with it. The car was made in 2008 or 2009, and apart from the air con not working it's in mint condition. Barring some accident happening, the i10 - like this Peugot 107 - will give trouble-free motoring for the next 10 years easily, probably longer if regularly derviced and maintained. So no, selling the Peugot for a shade under £3 does NOT sound greedy, just very reasonable. Happy days...
A friend of mine has one of these cars. Has like over 200k km on it, and she ran the oil out of it… twice… (one time the “STOP” light was even on lol). She managed to limp it to the store to buy more oil and it didn’t go wrong. And it passed the APK (Dutch MOT equivalent) without a single advisory item. After her car I’m actually convinced these things are indestructible.
As a Peugeot 107 owner, I can attest to them being great little cars. Sure, it's not particularly fast or stylish - but if you want something that's cheap and easy to run as well as surprisingly comfortable and spacious, I say look no further than the 107.
I love the fact you get genuinely excited for a 107, but they are good cars. Surprised the police didn't ask what you are doing, but I wonder if they watch the channel 🤣♥
I think I commented that before, but Laufenn is a sub-brand to Hankook, basically their economy version ;) very good quality, although not as cheap as they had been at the time when they were hitting the market for the first time. The 107/C1s/Aygos here in Germany are all ruined meanwhile as well, and yes - the few good ones will be sold at premium, since no really small run-around shopping carts are available any longer as new cars.
3 grand sound completely fair to me , as he said, these cars are perfect for new drivers because the low cost of running them. This one had a nice makeover. It's much better than a 1 grand bigger car for your 18 year old son or daughter as their first car
I had a 2008 Aygo, great car, but the hazard light button was, indeed, cracked. The hazard lights worked, so I suppose they pent the money in the important place.....
I bought a 2006 3 door Citroen C1 Vibe in 2020 as my first car, it was an absolute rust bucket, 105,000 miles, squeaking clutch, no air con, manual roll down windows, not even a rev counter. Other than a persistent engine warning light from one of the previous owners attempting to gas exchange the car? Why idek??? Bc it was my first car I had no idea about maintenance I didn’t check the oil and once my dad checked its levels and it had…none! And yet it had absolutely no issues still running by some miracle. They’re bulletproof cars, take a hell of abuse but they’re SO reliable. I had mine for over 2.5 years, and drove it abroad for the first time to France and back with absolutely no faults. I had to scrap it in the end when the radiator rusted over so much and basically exploded full of yellow brown sludge all under the bonnet (as great as it sounds) Genuinely shed a tear when this got scrapped bc it meant so much to me having my own sense of freedom and independence for the first time at the 19. Glad to have a car with electric windows and aircon now but the memories from my first car will stay with me forever.

Another great video Matt!! You just can't help but watch them! Why are they so addictive??
Keep it going mate 👍
Almost 400k subscribers Matt you are clearly providing content people want to see👍
Matt these cars are genuinely very good little cars .. we'll done with this one 🚗🇬🇧👍
Matt
You should pull the wheel covers of the cars and spray the steel rims in Matt Black.
It's a shame we've lost these cheap and cheerful city cars from the new car market.
I noticed the exact same issues that you mention (almost frightning):
- cracked hazard light switch (5€ and easy to change)
- exhaust rusted (almost through) (50€ and just 4 screws)
- rear drum break pads needed changing (12€ if you can do it yourself)
- various parts had the read paint faded/clearcoat peeling (didnt bother to fix it)
Unfortunately the next Aygo model (2014-2022) is still more expensive than other cars in that segment, so i bought a Kia picanto instead.
I’m experienced motor trade and I’ve never heard something explained like this. I think this is brilliant!
Full stop or full throttle and they sounds good full throttle 👍
The little Daihatsu engine is a gem
I use to own one as a secondary car and they are good. My wife has a gen 2 C1. The 1.0 litre engines can really good mileage.
Laufenn are made by Hankook as a budget brand so at a pinch you have 4 matching tyres Matt !!
Great video HPA, great work Matt, nice little car, probably the right price as well, it's got all the credentials 👌😀👍
I would check under the rear carpet. They leak through the rear lights and sometimes the eyelevel break light.
This is a far far better video than the one with brewer I couldn't watch that one but this I can definitely watch
@@gravemind6536 I bought the Argo with a high speck and in 2012 it was just over£14,000 new .
Love the infectious enthusiasm for simple motoring
Good thing, that Airvidox kit. I bought and used one because you rate them so highly. My newer old car's cigarette smell gone overnight. I reckon the manufacturer of those kits must owe you something by now because I doubt I'm the only one buying them because you spoke so highly of them
You're nailing it, keep the great work!
Nearing the 400k subscribers, will be so well deserved; just love your vlogs Matt 😊
Well done 👍 cracking little car 🚗🚗
Great cars! Had three Aygo's and one C1. Now driving Skoda Citigo. Same formula. Great video.
Which one do you prefer?
Hi Matt, what a nice little car, should fly off the forecourt. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
Absolutely love the Triumvirate of 107/C1/Aygo. Actually regret selling my 107, which really was just for vanity reasons 😀
I have a C1 to drive to work, I've got other nicer cars, but my wife and I use the C1 all the time. Never worry about where we park it, geat in a car park and runs on air. Also, it's actually quite fun to drive, slow, but you can chuck it into corners. It sort of reminds me of a mini classic.
another great video. i got a toyota aygo 2012 ice model i picked up over a month ago. best car i owned
Awesome car for 18 years old !
Laufenn are a good brand
Always thought Gordon Murray would approve of these. Great packaging and simple.
Matt, the reason these hold up so well is because Toyota built all of them, in the same factory that builds the Yaris i believe
This takes me back; this was my first car back in 2007. I never had an issue in the 80k miles I drove it. That said, it has a Toyota engine.
Great, small and cheap run around, great buy video and work as always Matt! :D
Come on matt you need to sponsor that new bin get it painted up in high peak autos colours 👌👌👌
I'd love this - much as I love my E39 BMW, it's expensive to run, insure, and with 225,000 miles on the clock I'm worried it's going to cost me a lot at some point. I had a Citroën AX GT prior to the BM, loved that too!
Im astonished you have put together a car like that for less than £1,400 - she's a beaut
Matt , go to a breakers yard , you will get a parcel shelf for a £10 👍
That's a real transformation - it just needs the parcel-shelf to complete it!
Cracking car! I wonder when people will wake up about what is going off in the sky? ✈✈✈✈✈
I very rarely see these little fellas with original wheel trims.
I believe the engines for these are made by Daihatsu.
I tell you what, your paint guy looks after you. Great little cars (if you can buy them at the right price that is)
Looking really good today, have you been working out ? very taught, fit and svelte….
Spacious 😂😂
@@v31.48 Compared to a Fiat 500 they are
@@john1v6 I see.
Glad you got a great car this time 🎉
That is great looking 2995 is alot but it be perfect for a first car but it looks worth it with its new look
Laufenn is a Hankook sub-brand. So you do have four identical tyres on, haha 🙂Laufenns are quite popular in continental Europe.
Excellent video as always Matt ! Im just catching up with the backlog. Best car channel on YT x far!
My niece has had one for four years, bought as a used car ... they're really great first cars
they're great cars for any driver, new or experienced.
Not so low cost now. Insurance prices have gone up by 40% last year no matter what car you drive.
I had to scrap it in the end when the radiator rusted over so much and basically exploded full of yellow brown sludge all under the bonnet (as great as it sounds)
Genuinely shed a tear when this got scrapped bc it meant so much to me having my own sense of freedom and independence for the first time at the 19.
Glad to have a car with electric windows and aircon now but the memories from my first car will stay with me forever.
One of my favourite UA-camrs at the moment. Keep up the great work!
When you first showed the car I thought - 3k any day of the week if you can fix the faded bumpers. I agree, a great job for £560
