I've been feeling really guilty for reading fiction books because I'm a law student and everyone around me always say that I should spend my time with law books and fiction is a waste of time, etc.

Here are some additional tips 🤎
    - Create a reading habit
    - Set goals (even if it's just one page)
    - Create a reading schedule
    - Set a timer (to combat distraction)
    - Turn off the internet on your phone
    - Find the right environment
    - Find out what is keeping you from reading more (and try to improve)
Huge fan of reading multiple books at the same time. :)

    The two tips I resonate the most with are;
Don't feel the need to finish a book and use audiobooks to 'get through' tougher reads.
I never would have read a brief history of time if i didn't listen to it as an audiobook. Im so glad that I did!. It was really fascinating but there are so many points where I just would not have pushed through. There is one part of the book about quarks or whatever they are called. You have upquarks and down quarks. I would not have been able to get through that section as a reader, but through listening it just gets said to you.
I think people feel a duty to finish a book as well because they think that is the best way to get all the value out of it. We don't apply that to UA-cam videos as you say. So why we apply it to books ill never know.

I've never liked reading as a hobby, but lately I've been feeling wanting to start reading books. Yesterday, December 15, my psychology professor, Wallis Back, gave me a book as a gift, Talk to Strangers by Matt Dahlia (one of the co-founder of Yes Theory), after giving her my answer sheet for my final exam. Today, I began reading the book to want to read. I've read about 10 page so far, but I'm liking I so far. Thank you for your awesome video! I always enjoy watching them!

I've never set a reading goal, but because I enjoy reading, I usually read over a hundred books a year, I tend to read about 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening and also read while I'm on the treadmill or stationary bike (makes the workout easier). Most of the books I read are via the Kindle app on my iPad. I do read some paper books and listen to books on Audible. There are seasons when I don't read as much, but it never lasts. Sometimes I'm more into fiction, at at other times, I'm find myself reading nonfiction. Fiction, of course, is easier unless (sometimes) it's serious literature. This year I'm closing in on 150 books for 2023. Thanks, Ali, for emphasizing the importance of reading on your channel.

I am currently in love with reading because I started asking myself what movies and series I am usually watching. Then I started looking for and reading the same books and now I am an addict! I would suggest starting with something like romance or novels, and find those 2 genres in whatever way you like. For example crime novels.

The quitting books idea SO WORKS. I was rereading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley over the summer because I was assigned it in Grade 10 (I'm now a third year university student) and I never actually got around to finishing it, I just read chapter summaries and so I could get the paper I had to write on it over with and then had to return the book. The premise was always very cool so I bought the book because I got into reading this year for leisure after not having read a book since high school. It was my 5th book of the year and I just could not finish it because of how wordy it was. I was stuck on it for about 2 months then I finally decided I'd just take a break on it and get to this other book I really wanted to read and I finished the other book in about 2 weeks (that's fast considering my average time currently is about a month since it's still not a habit yet).

I love the concept of having multiple books on the go at once.
I saw a post a few days ago about having a Meal book and a Snack book on the go at all times.
Meal book: Meaty book that deep dives into an area you really want to learn more about. You need to carve out time for these types of books as they need a lot of attention.
Snack book: Something just to pass the time. Usually a fiction book, that you can just pick up and read at any random point throughout the day, without needing to pay too much attention.

Oh mennnnn....quiting a book was the hardest one yet for me. Couldn't feel like I have really added another one to my tier without doing it cover to cover. But the 7 habits of highly effective people changed everything for me. It's the first one I decided to give up on (I'm so sorry Stephen). The vocabulary was just too intense and rigourous for me. Felt like I was ploughing through and not enjoying. So I just watched the summary and it helped. Another tip is not to be shy to repeat books that you feel really had a very large impact on your life. I like to call these the books that center you.
Current read. A really underrated book I found on gumroad of all places called Better You by a mysterious author named twelve ( he challenges anyone who was reading actively to decipher his name from the book-i think that's neat) anywho. I highly recommend yall enter 2024 with this little gem. It's like most of self help all in one but in an organised format and with a plan.
Lastly let's all be readers that respect what we read by acting upon it.
    Thanks for sharing Ali
    Peace.

Now loving reading on ipad mini. Can use the apple pencil to highlight and then the kindle app I can reread my highlights only. Find that I am reading a lot faster on it too than the physical book...not sure if it is because I am not overwhelmed with the entire book in my hands and thinking "oh my so much more to go", consistently of lighting, easier to read font, or the gamification aspect of wanting to swipe vs page turn. of course there is also convenience factor of so many books in small form factor too.

The best book for Christmas & New Year is:
Dr Zhyvago by Boris Pasternak and movie Dr Zhyvago by brilliant British director David Lean.
I repeat the process every year during Christmas time and I am never bored😊 🎄Of course that is subjective opinion 😊

My trick is using my insomnia. Reading helps to put my mind at ease and actually helps me get an hour or two more than I would trying to sleep on my own. I FLY through books at night since there's very little distraction. During the day, I'm constantly picking it up and putting it down, so it's easier to knock out huge chunks at night. I use library books too since there's a "deadline" (I don't stress myself out about it though).
I started reading in July and have 18 books read so far this year. It was a slow start since I was only buying one or two books a month. Since going to the library, I've averaged about 3 books every 2 weeks or so.

Can't wait to get to Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill! Since you love Sanderson you need to give Ryan Cahill a shot. His writing style is awesome! Also, the Sun Eater saga by Christopher Ruocchio is fantastic! Great video as usual!

Am I the only one who wishes to know a list of all the books Ali has read? Or at least, most of them. It would feel like I would go through the same learning journey.
Ali and team I don’t know if you see this, but I’d LOVE to see a list of, I don’t know, 100 books Ali has read. Pre-ordered the book btw! ❤

Pro tip, don’t be afraid to skim. I started and finished “$100 startup” this afternoon. You can’t do that for every book but definitely most business and personal growth books. Not every word is necessary just get the key ideas and pick up some quotes and move on to the next book. Also I almost exclusively get all of my books from half priced books and buy used on amazon

    Thanks for your work!

I really have the tendency of forcing myself to finish a book. I think there must be something valuable from the book, even if it’s just one sentence. But this approach wasted me so much time. It’s better to quit book IMO. Thanks Ali for this amazing video.

2:45 I gave up reading the millionaire mindset last year and then I picked it up a few months ago and actually finished it. I definitely find this method helpful. Start a book. Don't finish it. And then pick it up again or never. It's fine.

So agree with the suggestion of reading something you enjoy to get back into the habit of reading. I read cozy crime novels set in Britain. Currently love the mayhem in The Marquess of Mortiforde Mysteries. Check out the first one, Blooming Murder, by Simon Whaley. Just reading Cal Newport’s Deep Work. Really inspiring. Just pre-ordered your book.

I absolutely loved "The Disaster Artist" by Greg Sestero & Tom Bissell. It's Greg's experience on making The Room, Tommy Wiseau's disaster/masterpiece of a first film. I highly recommend it, especially for those interested on how shooting a film/TV show works because he also includes some technicalities into it. It is hilarious, sad, and also such a fun, fast read about him and this weird man who dared to make their dreams come true, albeit it turning into a disaster film but eventually a cult classic.

I borrow from the library (Libby audiobooks). I only buy physical books if the library doesn’t have it, I read, then donate. Audible, sometimes Kindle.
