Apparently the studio pushed hard against Jackson focusing on Dwarves other than Thorin and his nephews (including the love triangle that they insisted on inserting, Legolas was not meant to have any feelings for Tauriel beyond brotherly love). Jackson definitely made some mistakes of his own, but I think these scenes give a glimpse of some of the good ideas he had that may have been vetoed. The Dwarves singing in their cells with Dori putting his arm around Ori, the reactions of the Dwarves to the ruin of Dale (especially Bifur the toy-maker's obvious grief at seeing a charred doll and the fate it implies for its young owner...), the acorn, the longer funeral oration for Thorin and the sons of Dís. All moments that add to the world and characters.
If you read the "Chronicles" series of books which detail the making of the film, there is a ton of concept art and reveals many sequences that were deleted. For example, we see at 8:38 Gandalf putting his hand on the palantir. According to the Chronicles books, he was supposed to see Smaug leading legions of Orcs and Trolls in battle. Gandalf tells people that he fears such a thing happening, but the audience being able to see it would have been nice. Also, the scene were Galadriel, Elrond and Saruman was going to be an even bigger deal at one point, with the group being joined by Celeborn and an army of elves from Lothlorien. Azog was meant to be there too, which more orcs. Presumably this was cut so that it didn't take away from the main battle and so that people didn't expect an army of Lothlorien Elves to turn up at Erebor, which is a shame because I would have loved to have seen Galadriel having a few words with Thranduil!

Now I feel bad that more Beorn footage was not used, he was a major player in the battle of the 5 armies in the book, he actually rescued Thorin, during the battle, althoughThorin passed away afterward due to his many wounds.

Planting the acorn, Gandalf’s speeches, and Beorn helping in the Battle of Five Armies should’ve made it into the film. The funeral also would’ve been the perfect post-credits scene.
It was a sin to don't use the Smaug destroying the bridge scene and the Beorn's fighting scenes, those ones were best than many other battle scenes on the cinematic version.
@@hovnousek1962 I can suspend my disbelief for that but the fact it's never called attention to makes me prefer keeping this scene in, giving the acorn a payoff in the film itself works better for this story. Gandalf reminds Thranduil that his wife left behind someone who is far more precious than gems: their son; 6. Beorn fighting in the form of a bear; and 7. More action scenes with Thranduil. And you really didn't need to include the music.
The last scene - Gandalf's speech - should have been included in the movies. He is really holding a good speech. And I found the music nice. Some scenes there is no sound, so this is not bad actually.

@fee foo I have changed a lot since I wrote that, but I still keep to that the love triangle was a studio interpretation, because there are severals proofs for that, and every fan of The World of Arda, its books and films, should know that, to be honest, but some may have missed it, and that is completely alright. Do you have any proof or worthy source(s) for your argument? I do not believe you, which means I disagree. The things the major part of the fans disliked were studio interpretations ;). Compared to the masterpiece The Lord of the Rings (which had (almost) none studio inputs that were accepted), The Hobbit had lots of inputs, because now they were several studios (because of the rights to the material - it is a long story for a another time), and some of the inputs, such as the love triangle, were forced to be "accepted" by Sir Peter Jackson, unfortunately.
I would have prefered that this rediculous scene was cut for time along with Alfreds cross dressing and instead substuted for Thorins funeral and Beorn fighting making it into the official theatrical cut ( as a whole the films arent bad I just think that some rediculous cgi and inconsistencies were added into the plot, I personally would have been happy for two movies instead of three but thats just an opinion.... I guess thats whats so great about the fan edit community, even though I can never find one that cuts out only the bad and keeps the good scenes, never was a huge fan of legolas being in this trilogy at all, especially in the barrel escape ).
So that is where Legolas learned his troll-slaying from. Anyhow, many of these scenes are important - more so than some scenes that were not cut - and that's a shame. It's good we at least get to see them here. I particularly find the scene in Dale important. You can see the Dwarves are sad for what happened there, it seems to me the full extent of what could go wrong is dawning on a few of the younger members of the company. The scene where the Dwarves get out of the barrels is also in my opinion quite a nice touch. We see them battle-worn and all out of sorts from being in them for so long. It adds some much needed physical vulnerability to them that we did not see much of in the final cut. Obviously Thorin's funeral is something that should never have been cut. Beorn in Dale (I assume) would also have been a nice touch, even if it somewhat detracts from his character.
theres more to take in than money, these were already filmed so it WOULD be a waste of money for the studio to use. another factor is time, if scenes drag on too long or if the movie goes past 2 hours and 30 minutes its more often than not bore the hell out of everyone watching. another problem is the studio and director with clashing ideas. the studio may believe that a certain scene or two is unecessary or conflicts with the story and remove it. of course the director hates the idea but the director cant do anything against the studio
The cgi is so impressive in this trilogy! Must be saving a lot of time making the cool creatures and backgrounds! And the actors may not have much to work with, but are so talented in their character potrayals!
Please, Why did they not use that scene with smaug burning the persons who tries to escape, and those with Beorn, I don't understand they said that the three hobbit films would last 3h each, in BOTFA it's just lasted 2h44, Imagine with 16 min more, the fantastic scenes we could have had.
They definitely should add in all the footage they have. I always wondered what purpose azog had when he was at the river instead of Bolg. I'd like to see that added in.
I don't like that there's the prevailing music, can't hear the scenes' sound, and I know there was! Having said that, I can't believe they deleted Thranduil's conversation with the Dwarves and Legolas in Mirkwood, the *inclusion of the poem was so awesome!*
Its early proof of concept barebones animation to be refined and hand animated/mocapped later. Its pretty much first thong after story board for such cgi scene. Also n64 isnt "that bad", these tests have no lighting, almost no textures(everything is nade with solid colours) n64 has both and usualy better animations. It's closer to very first polygonal 3d games like Starfox on SNES.
What wasted potential. It's clear that there was love from the cast and crew who made this, but it was such a mess of studio back-and-forths that all of this amazing material was cut. In spite of what they are, I do really love the movies, as I love anything The Hobbit.
is it just me that is thinking that in years to come they could add 10-20 minutes to a new release, maybe they could call it, the hobbit the ultimate editions
Even after all these years, I do still wish the extended cut of Battle had more then 20 minutes added to it so the runtime would be about the same as the other two extended cuts of The Hobbit (lol, who am I kidding, I'd watch even longer extended cuts of all 6 movies)
Thanks so much for this video, I have not seen most of these deleted scenes before. I did not realize how much did they remove from the trilogy in the final edit. I understand why they did not keep some of them (there was a lot of action already, that is why they probably left out epic fight scenes of Thranduil and Beorn), but I'm a little sorry that more speaking or funny scenes didn't make it into the movies.
+MaxeBaumannFilms2013 Not to mention, the Stephen Colbert cameo is actually still in the movie..... Unless you where referring to the part of the cameo with Peter Jackson.
@Bauglir100 Every Middle Earth movie except for The Battle of the Five Armies opens with a flashback scene: The Fellowship of the Ring: The Prologue The Two Towers: Gandalf's Fall The Return of the King: Gollum's origin An Unexpected Journey: The Sack of Erebor The Desolation of Smaug: Thorin and Gandalf at Bree So I agree that the scene could've been a great opening for The Battle of the Five Armies
Good thing they did not add the scene where the dragon destroys the bridge. If it already freaks out in computer animation then just by adding that scene, it would be turning a fantasy movie into a horror movie

Beorn in Dale (I assume) would also have been a nice touch, even if it somewhat detracts from his character.
so many wasted shots if not only for the money, the hobbit should have been a very astounding movie.
theres more to take in than money, these were already filmed so it WOULD be a waste of money for the studio to use. another factor is time, if scenes drag on too long or if the movie goes past 2 hours and 30 minutes its more often than not bore the hell out of everyone watching. another problem is the studio and director with clashing ideas. the studio may believe that a certain scene or two is unecessary or conflicts with the story and remove it. of course the director hates the idea but the director cant do anything against the studio
You missed a lot of unexpected journey stuff, there is some in the appendices, not new scenes, mainly additional shots and stuff.
These scenes with thranduil are sick
why did you publish this with the music being so loud? re-upload this pls
to avoid copyright issues and having this video removed!
@@ela_ww7 : It didn't have to be so loud, though.
Probably would of been too "scary" to kiddies who watch it
And so, the scenes with blood in EE, isn't that too scary for children ?
Well these days everyone tries to kidafy everything and try to make it suitable for children
+TheOfficialPhoenixTV Correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think the hobbit (the movie)was made for children...
+Animely0 indeed they were not considering Tolkien himself said the Hobbit was not meant to be a childrens book
They definitely should add in all the footage they have. I always wondered what purpose azog had when he was at the river instead of Bolg. I'd like to see that added in.
The river with the barrels? That’s Bolg there.
More actions scenes with Thranduil !!!! >
Too bad we can't see more badass fight from Thranduil🙁
I don't like that there's the prevailing music, can't hear the scenes' sound, and I know there was!
Having said that, I can't believe they deleted Thranduil's conversation with the Dwarves and Legolas in Mirkwood, the *inclusion of the poem was so awesome!*
Would of loved to see Beorn destroy that troll.
The unrendered cgi scenes look like a N64 game
Its early proof of concept barebones animation to be refined and hand animated/mocapped later. Its pretty much first thong after story board for such cgi scene. Also n64 isnt "that bad", these tests have no lighting, almost no textures(everything is nade with solid colours) n64 has both and usualy better animations. It's closer to very first polygonal 3d games like Starfox on SNES.
funny thing, im not a fan of cgi that much but smaug beorne and thranduils parts that were deleted were awesome wish theyd air it
If the scene where dwalin fought to get to thorin made it into the actual movie, i'd fr cry
What wasted potential. It's clear that there was love from the cast and crew who made this, but it was such a mess of studio back-and-forths that all of this amazing material was cut. In spite of what they are, I do really love the movies, as I love anything The Hobbit.
What the hell is on the table at 1:20? A kind of unreleased and unauthorized "pneumatic" weapon?
!!!
Haha! The compressed air duster canister. 😂 Nice eye!
is it just me that is thinking that in years to come they could add 10-20 minutes to a new release, maybe they could call it, the hobbit the ultimate editions
No. I would look forward to the ultimate editions.
Oh god no! It's already two whole movies longer than it needs to be!
i'd love to see that, they left out so many amazing scenes
Can we get a Beorn movie please? LOVED him!!
bro this is ain't the MCU
This is absolutely FANTASTIC! It's like watching an entirely new movie! Do the dvd's contain all of this as well?
was that Peter Jackson in the Basket in Laketown at 0:40? O.o
No
+Eric Kanns Yes
what now? xD
Look closely its obviously Peter doing a secret role in the movie.
like in the second one :D
I wish they did the entire Beron scenes as one big awesome ending for him! be sick to she him go full tank mode! :D
junglisticluxx See*
I hope we will get another cut of the battle of the five armies with less battle scenes and more personal scenes like the funeral and gandalfs speech.
They were going to explain the jewelry at the start of the extended version of an unexpected journey too but for some reasons the scenes got cut
COULD YOU PLEASE MAKE THE MUSIC A BIT QUIETER I HAVE TO SCREAM TO UNDERSTAND MY OWN WORDS
+TheParadox3000 Yes, the music is too loud. Sheesh
Truth is there should have been several hours more of these!
Even after all these years, I do still wish the extended cut of Battle had more then 20 minutes added to it so the runtime would be about the same as the other two extended cuts of The Hobbit (lol, who am I kidding, I'd watch even longer extended cuts of all 6 movies)
He was going to explain the rings at the beginning of the extended version of the Hobbit
😢
7:25 I would’ve LOVED to see Bilbo say that in the movie!
Thanks so much for this video, I have not seen most of these deleted scenes before. I did not realize how much did they remove from the trilogy in the final edit. I understand why they did not keep some of them (there was a lot of action already, that is why they probably left out epic fight scenes of Thranduil and Beorn), but I'm a little sorry that more speaking or funny scenes didn't make it into the movies.
that scene at 0:41 showed the directors attitude to this trilogy
Most of these aren't deleted but just B-Roll footage or Pre-Vis.
+MaxeBaumannFilms2013 , yet still there is NO TAURIEL EXTRA SCENE at least with a proper farewell or mentioned of her in anyway.
+MaxeBaumannFilms2013 Not to mention, the Stephen Colbert cameo is actually still in the movie..... Unless you where referring to the part of the cameo with Peter Jackson.
The great Bowman misses - 09:38...
All tge scenes where Thranduil's fighting are at least amazing!!
its really sad that they deleted these scenes
I honestly think the scene at 2:13-2:44 would have worked really well as the first scene in The Battle Of The Five Armies.
It would've logically happened before Legolas went out to find Tauriel, which happened in the middle of The Desolation of Smaug.
@Bauglir100
Every Middle Earth movie except for The Battle of the Five Armies opens with a flashback scene:
The Fellowship of the Ring: The Prologue
The Two Towers: Gandalf's Fall
The Return of the King: Gollum's origin
An Unexpected Journey: The Sack of Erebor
The Desolation of Smaug: Thorin and Gandalf at Bree
So I agree that the scene could've been a great opening for The Battle of the Five Armies
wow, some of these moments are epic, especially bilbos battle with the spiders.
When Bilbo started panicking I felt that.....7:11
The Dwarfs In Dale should have been kept it. They would have to then cut the Bomber Barrol Scene and the Fish scene
3:51 this looks like one of those tie-in movie games, ngl i would love to play it
Looks like PS2/WIi
Those scenes should not have been removed, they are interesting, especially Thranduil fighting riding a Troll.
Man the Funeral of Thorin,Kili, and Fill would have completed the film all the fighting would have made the battles better at least we get to see them
Good thing they did not add the scene where the dragon destroys the bridge.
If it already freaks out in computer animation then just by adding that scene, it would be turning a fantasy movie into a horror movie
Some of these scenes are in the extended versions.
oh god fighting Thranduil
Kein Wunder das der letzte Teil so kurz war
10:21 12:56 oh...😳 We need those ElvenKing battle scenes.
Awesome Vid, Is there any more deleted Scenes?
Can we please get the FULL Extended versions of the Hobbit? Peter Jackson and Weta Digital? PLEASE? PLEASEEEE
Thanks for making that
0:31-0:34 was epic, the she-elf flying
13.00 if it was on film, Thranduil would have been a big hero than Legolas, and would have had more more fan than his son.
Absolutely obsessed with The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. I hope these live on for generations.
The lord of the rings will. Not sure about the other two.
@@jarlbalgruuf7701 unfortunately I worry none of them will
@@alok26k68
They will get replace with an all black cast. : /
smaug destroying the bridge to land actually explains everything, why keep that out of the movie?
Explains everything??
Thank you. This was very nice to see. Some scenes i hoped , they did added it into the film ;) .
Most of the first half of the video, I'm glad the scenes were scrapped, but holy shit that Dwalin rescue scene would have hit so hard
I see that many of the deleted scenes were filmed in Greenland.
They should make an plus extra extended version where all these scence is used. Me and alot of other fan will buy it.
Oh thank you, now because of this video I can imagine how his fellow Sindar Elf (Celeborn) in his battle mode
We could've seen more of Thranduil
13:34 why any of those actors could not have been in actual orc suits like LOTR is beyond me. It would have looked so much better.
still bitter about the barrel scenes. also ty for uploading this.
