My London was 14.5 years and passed on Nov 12, 2022 while I was away on a weekend trip. He was with my parents and he just laid down and passed by my Dad’s feet. It was peaceful. He had heart failure and I’m still grieving. I feel he waited until I wasn’t around to leave. This has been harder than some relatives passing. 💔 I prayed that he didn’t suffer. He was a joy for my entire family.

My little girl Gypsy 🐶 a cute Shih-Tzu, lived 19 years. Healthy to the end except for weak hind legs. I helped walk with a carrier in her last year. 7 months now and I still cry everyday for her 😢💔

Wow 19 years old, your Gypsy girl was bionic. I just lost my boy Tucker on Easter Sunday from stomach cancer at age 14. I am heartbroken, and feeling guilty that something I did or didn't do might have caused him to get cancer. I did delay teeth cleanings, and think food I fed my dogs was not high quality. I switched to Science Diet sensitive stomach and skin a year ago, and made one meal a day Freshpet when I could get it. What did you feed Gypsy? Last June Tucker got down in back legs from a ruptured disc, but took him to a veterinarian who does acupuncture, laser therapy, and chiropractic treatment. Took 6 weeks of kennel rest, meloxicam anti-inflammatory, a couple of corticosteroid shots, and 3 acupuncture and laser treatments to get him walking and even running on his own again. We had 7 good months together, and then he got sick in March vomiting and not eating. His stomach x-ray showed a huge white area of calcification which vet diagnosed as terminal cancer. So mad at myself for not being more observant and proactive in caring for my sweet boy Tucker. Maybe I could have had a few more good years with him too.😥💔
@@kaysumpter2447 Don't blame yourself. Most pet owners will not do 1/3rd the things you did for your beloved Tucker. You gave him the best comfortable life a cute doggie deserves. I was truly blessed from the beginning with my little girl Gypsy 🐶 The best medicine any animal can have, is love. She never took her eyes off me. She was just happy I was in her line of sight.
Gypsy never had health problems until her last two years with weak hind legs. I would use a harness to support her legs when she walked. But I did give her baby Tylenol daily the last two years with me. But seeing her struggle to walk toward me was heart breaking. She didn't want to leave me ever. The day I decided to put her to sleep, was the most painful day of my life. The vet had to give her not one, not two but three shots to finally make her heart stop beating. She would literally lived forever as long as I was with her. I would place my hand each night on her heart, we had the same beating rhythm. I know, sounds unreal but she was my little extension of myself 😔💔🐶💤
It's been over 7 months now and I still cry everyday over her. I am a Jehovah's Witness and my faith keeps me going. When this world ends very soon, i will get a new puppy and give her the same name, Gypsy 🐶💕 to carry her memory. I plan having a Gypsy all eternity regardless how many I out live in the new world to come. She was the sweetest little girl ever. I won't get another puppy now because you can see how awful the world is getting. Some stores don't even carry dog food. I truly believe with all my heart we will see the new world by 2023.

Thank you for the kind and comforting words. Amazing that the relationship you and Gypsy had is the same as me and my best boy ever Tucker had. My ex-husband always said Tucker was the air I breath and I was the air he breathed. I know he was in awful pain that last month he lived, but he fought so hard to stay alive to be with me. I wish I could hold him and tell him what good boy he was just one more time. However, I think God had to stop my baby boy's suffering because Tucker would have kept fighting to live to be with me. I can't imagine ever loving another shih tzu like I loved that sweet boy. Also, God has made me aware that I was neglecting my girl Molly who has high blood pressure and is blind from glaucoma. She is most stubborn shih tzu I've ever had, but she is a very good girl. I'm praying we get to be with our precious shih tzus again someday, and get to live in a perfect world with them. I have to believe Christ will heal this evil world once Satan is defeated. Maybe our sweet shih tzus are God's gift to show us one good thing in current world to give us hope.🙏🐶
My baby Kandy was 17 years old and I had to put her down after her birthday January 1, 2022. She was a family member, went on vacation with us and walk in the parks. She encountered health issues later in wonderful life, lost of eye vision and hearing was leaving, but she knew her mother's voice. I still remember getting her at 8 weeks and that little face and pretty eyes. I will always miss her because one is missing from our pack.
My male shihtzu is almost 13 years old,still acts like a puppy, is healthy and still has all his teeth. Had him since he was 7 weeks old.

Bless you for adopting your 12 year old. The love they give cannot be measured. I lost mine( 16 yrs old) she had been abused by a very bad man. It took time for her to trust us but what she gave us was amazing. We miss her every day but so blessed to have had her.
A Shih Tzu owns me....we're happy and thriving. His tummy is super sensitive so I've been cooking his meals for about 3 years now. He is spoiled, very good boy and most sweetly defiant dog. As he continues to get older it seems he's turning into a grumpy old man and its adorable.

@@ohyeah3365 sure.....I do 4 pounds ground turkey, 2 full carrots, 2 cups kombucha squash, 1 cup string beans, 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup peas and celery is optional. I have little 4oz baby food jars I split the food into and store in the fridge. This is more or less 12-14 days worth of food.

Ugly breed of dogs
I have a shih tzu puppy and she is my lifesaver. I have tendencies that my legs will give out on me or I pass out, she is always with me and gets me help when it happens. Nugget is my best friend.

I love my little Sugar the Shih Tzu. We’ve covered ground for 14yrs together! She loves her daily walks~ She would love to go walking 3 times a day if I agreed to it. But at the most it’s 2 walks a day~ Sugar is a champaign brown on white fur with black tipped ears~ I fell immediately in love with her since she was a tiny little baby. She was always wanting to play first thing in the morning. The sweetest little thing she did most of all, is give out with her first little bark when she was just beginning to speak! I will never forget that it was ever so cute! We’ve been together for a long time and I could just write a whole book about the good time’s we’ve enjoyed together. Now she has met up with me in human years and we are now getting older together. Funny,... she acts as though she’s still 21 in human years, still has great energy for her age!~ I love Shih Tzu’s,... my favorite dog!~

A parvovirus unexpectedly took our 5-year-old Shih Tzu, the greatest dog ever and a blessing to our family during some difficult years. Many of our family members and friends got Shih Tzus as pets because of his tremendous personality; they were all wonderful, and some lived into their mid-teens…though none ever took the place of the first one. 😢

At 5 yrs a dog can still get parvo, wow didn't know this. Sorry for your loss, how did your doggy get it?
@@peggygarcia4316 We never determined how he got the parvovirus; an unleashed animal may have gotten onto the property while our dog was outside and infected him. After the dog passed away, my brother-who had never been very interested in him-told us that he’d had a precognitive dream in which the dog communicated to him that he was going to die, and that it would be all right…We knew the little guy had a great spirit, but that was something else!
@JMJ - I was told that the Parvo shot is most important. My Shih tzu had his Parvo shot along with other shots at the same time last month, and he seems to be doing well so far. I'm sorry to hear about your Shih tzu.
I wonder how often a dog should take the Parvo shot? I got my Shih Tzus at 5 months old, and he had all his shots. He is now 5 years old.

Charlie my Shih tzu loves eating fresh fruits like bananas watermelon and loves his veggies. In the summer I put small pieces of apples or greens in water making ice cubes so he got something cool to eat & hydrate after our walks

@@thatwiseoreocookie - I feed mine cooked vegetables, and chicken 🐔 sometimes, but not often, because he would want it all the time. He rather have my food instead of dog food. I believe all dogs would rather eat humans food than dog food. Our food is not healthy for them. It doesn't have the nutrients and nourishment that they need.

We have a female Shih Tzu who is 15.5 months old. She's a very picky eater and doesn't like any of the dry dog foods I bought. She eats soft cat food, because the soft dog food was giving her urinary tract infections - the vet recommended it. Sam (Samantha) often refuses food to the point that she throws up a foamy substance. As soon as she finally eats, the foamy throw up stops. I'd like to find a dry dog food that she will eat. She's the light of our life and goes almost everywhere with us - including going to church, at least six days a week. My husband is the pastor of the church, so she stays upstairs in the office area while the service is going on. I think some members might be upset if I took her into the actual service.

Hi , your story touched my ❤️! Have you ever heard of Dr Marty's food ? It is a dry kibble that can be used as the main ingredient or added to another dog food. You just crumble and add a little bit of water. ( it's dehydrated), and dogs go crazy over it.. if you Google Dr Marty's, I'm sure you'll find it w a better description 😉

Don't let bigger dogs attack shih tzu when go to dog parks. My shih tzu accidently got attacked while playing in there.
Don't let inexperienced groomer handle your shih tzu. My shih tzu CRIED when finished the grooming by a pet store. I did not know the fricking female groomer was new/inexperienced. Dogs don't talk. They cannot tell them what happened. BE VERY CAREFUL with those "groomerrs"!!!!!!
Yes, shih tzu owners must take furry kids to very experienced and certified groomers. Also, I had a Chow jump out of his fenced yard to attack my Shih Tzu, but grabbed my boy and found a big rock that I threw at the Chow. Never run from a dog that is in attack stance, keep pepper spray and a club when you walk, grab your dog and stand your ground. A good hard hit to their nose will make them stop and think, then pepper spray in face if you have to. Keep your baby safe, Shih Tzu's are sweet, awesome dogs.
My little girl is one year old and is a healthy, happy, full of life personality. Perhaps needs more people in her life as she is all over visitors when they come to the house. I take her for walks and we stop to chat to other pet owners along they way.She is super friendly and good.

I have only had Sheba a few months. Previous owners said she is 6yrs vet says is closer to eight. Had a couple broken teeth and wasn’t house broken. She is smart and learns things fast. Cats are still getting used to hers but she is wonderful with my 16 yr old cockapoo.
Just adopted a 12 yr old . Trying to find the best things to do for his quality of life. Groomers, daily walk twice a day weather permitting and good food. Can't get him to gain weight way too thin for me but he won't eat but a certain amount. A learning experience especially with starting ownership at an older age and never owning one before. I usually had adopted poodles.

My shitzu is 11 YRS old and has a mass cell on his chest near the crack of his arm. My vet feels he is to old to operate so she had him put on prednisone. The prednisone made the lump go down, however once he was finished with the treatment the mass cell came back. I don't know how many times I can put him through the prednisone and unfortunately my vet retired. So now all I can do is give him all my love and hope for the best.
Did the vet biopsy the mass? It could be a non threatening lipoma (fatty mass)

My shih tzu is a picky eater I've bought shih tzu brand dog food, Rachel Rae dog food, homemade soft dog food you keep in refrigerator he won't eat any of it . I forgot Blue dog food . So when I make a meal I always make sure I cook him meat also, string beans and carrots, he shocked me the other night he ate baked potato and fish and loved it.
Try The Farmer's Dog. My shih tzu loves it & she used to be a picky eater too.
Mine is too, but the reason your shih tzu does that is because you fix other foods. You have to leave it there and than they realize they aren’t getting anything else, than they eat it. Mine have to eat royal canin urinary so for the rest of his life now because of crystals and stones found in his urine. My baby had me buying all those foods you names and way more until I had to talk to his doctor. When I did what they said it worked. At first I had to cook the plain chicken and rice and mix it with his food, than slowly stop the chicken and rice now he eats. My gizmo is 3💙💙

Just found out from our veterinarian that dogs need grain for heart health. Make sure there is grain in your dogs food. My 12 yr old Shitzu was just diagnosed with early stage kidney disease 😢

I share my life with Elsa who is approx 12 months old. I live in the uk Elsa is a Resue from dog shelter. Elsa is such a fussy eater and will only eat a small amount of breakfast in the morning that's if she likes it. Elsa tends to graze at intervals throughout the day. I would be happier if she ate all of her breakfast in one go. I'm currently feeding Elsa Lilly's kitchen dog food but that could change as Elsa seems to change her dietary tastes every several days. Any tips or advice I would be grateful.
Puppies go through that stage. I have a Pug that was the pickiest eater. Wouldn’t eat for days. So I get the best cooked food for him. After day 4, he finally gave in. They get hungry so don’t worry too much about it.
Ofcourse if your pup doesn’t eat anything for longer than 4 days it’s time for a Vet checkup
I rescued a 6 year old shih tzu llasa apso mix. She's a very fussy eater who refuses to eat on some days. I finally discovered she eats more and more frequently when i put her bowl of food on a towel on an old blanket on a bed. I think she was nervous about food safety in her previous home. I have a new puppy, Shichon mix of Shih Tzu nothing else. Do the two breeds eat the same food? Right now she is on Hills Science puppy 3 x day. My Maltipoo eats different adult food. So far my Vet says this is good because ones a puppy and the other is 5 years (more Maltese than poodle). Next year can they eat the same food?
Yeah, once she’s up to 12 months, you can transition to adult food.
My Shih tzu Pepper never wants to eat. I've had dry kibble like Pro Plan, Hill's Science, and Nature's Recipe, Farmer's Dog, Ollie, Nom Nom and to the trash they went. Now I use Dr. Marty and Ultra Nutrition as a snack so she'll have something when she's ready. I've even resorted to cooking her an egg a couple times a week. So frustrating and expensive. Any suggestions?
I feed my shitzu/chihuahua, Purina Beneful Healthy Weight food, and as a snack she gets Dingo a dental Sticks. What is your thoughts of these choice
I lucked out, my Shih Tzu never has accepted human food. She raises her nose in the air and looks away, as if to say, "I'm royalty, I remind you, human." lol 😉
That's strange🤔 I have never known any breed of dog that would turn down human food. In my opinion, that's all they would eat if you give it to them.
@@celestejohnson109 In all honesty, she does have a daily snack of cheese, and cheddar cheese is her favorite. Her vet approves.
My mom had a shih-tzu that was the best dog we've ever had. Unfortunately, she fed her cheap Cesar dog food and cheap snacks from the grocery store. She ended up getting diabetes from these and I had to give her insulin shots twice a day for the rest of her life. Don't make the same mistake. Feed your dog good food.

Im having the worst time potty training my Shih Tzus, shes pretty obedient so now my adult Chihuahua thats been potty trained he is going in my house now, any advice would be great.

Shih Tzus are known to be very hard to train. I had to get rid of my den set because my shih tzu ruined it with urine. I didn't like leaving him in his kennel all day. I have leather now, but he no longer urinate in the house unless it's a thunderstorms.
I had the same problem with my shih Tzu...she didn't listen... So this best way to fix problem is to observe where they go for potty and urine...do not clean those places because it will remove the small...buy matts for doggies...place them where they go for potty and problem solved.
My Oliver was so easy to train. I had him nearly 100% trained in less than a week. I crate trained him at night but I think the key to success is consistency. I took him out every 20 minutes asking him of he had to potty. Now he potty's on demand.

I have one her name is Honey and she will be 8 mos on 22nd. I work from home and try to take her for walks but the heat. We go for around 20 mins. Like yesterday she came in after panting on walk and darted for kitchen to get water. How long should i walk her and best times? How do i keep her paws clean after grooming? How many times a day feed and best times?
20 - 30 mins is okay. But make it shorter if it’s too hot as they can suffer from heatstroke. Make sure to go with water to keep her hydrated during the walk. Three meals a day is great, but make sure to keep track of her weight and regulate meals accordingly. Also keep track of the treats.
You forgot to add food allergies. My current shih tzu is allergic to beef which caused him ear infections. luckely i have vet who's pointing out this was possible. those infections can turn into cancer.

i own two KshihtZus . They are 7 months old. They love car rides, but they do not like to go for walks. They like to drink milk. i am trying hard to make them ear kibbles, but they dont like to eat kibbles. I try giving them Pedigree ready to ear chicken chunks in gravey mixed with rice.
Please suggest some alternate foods for them.

Sully is my companion of 11 years. He is half Maltese. His weight has been 7 pounds for 9 years. He eats Cesar’s and his treats are raw gizzards. His eyesight is diminished now and he has swallowed a few teeth. He has muscles from long walks and he is happy. My other two Shih Tzus lived to 14. We plan on crossing Rainbow Bridge together.

They can eat some of the fruits we eat, so I’ll rather list the ones they can’t eat including Avocado, Grapes, Cherries, and Tomatoes. Especially grapes, never let them eat grapes.

It’s a common issue with Shih Tzus. You just have to keep trying different kibbles until you find something she loves.

I’m trying my best to find right food for my 1 year old. Raw fish,salmon lamb also dry best quality food but he always is itchy .

Every dog at home, must have a litter box accessible at all times, because this is the animals health, it suffers without it, and this is a cause of pains and ailments which become more severe over time. Almost all owners mistreat their dogs, ordering them to hold their needs and relieving themselves only when it is convenient for them. The dog is the only animal in the world, that man forces to relieve itself only when it is proper for him/her, which is unacceptable abuse. A dog must clean its body as often as it needs, by itself and whenever it needs it. A dog is the only pet friend kept at home that cannot - is not allowed to - relieve itself at home. When we take a dog home to be our friend - and all dogs should be treated as such - it needs, close to its bed, a litter box. Especially when it is older or sick, because it can have more than one bed at home, depending on the apartment/house size. These places must be dry, warm and clean, but not hot or cold, not where there are chemicals. The bed must be well washed and very well rinsed to not leave any chemicals, like for small babies. It is not understandable, and not forgivable, that people keep dogs at home without a litter box, and they say that they love dogs and that dogs are their friends. Many people abuse dogs and even throw them out on the street (make them homeless), because dogs can't keep their needs and relieve themselves at home at some point. Some even have their dogs put down for this. That's why many dogs that suffer, because they cannot relieve themselves at home, and suffer pains, have difficulties with breathing, and increasing ailments - can sometimes vandalize things at home, are restless, howl, cry or lie and cannot move.

I have an issue with my Cody’s feeding, he is just too picky and fussy, he won’t eat dog food or biscuits, I have tried so many brands but just refuses, even most human food he won’t , like fish, he only eats lamb and sometimes chicken or sausages, chips he loves, but it’s a battle to get him to eat at all. He is 14 months old.
Firstly, make sure you have health issues ruled out, like dental health or any other issue that may make him a picky eater, your vet will help with this.
Next, try to make the food more appealing, most picky dogs prefer when their food has a bit of moisture to it. Also, try not to hover or fuss, some dogs act picky because they need attention. And, if he’s still picky, stand your ground, show him who’s boss. If all these fails though, you might want to consider home cooking, although that’s a bit more demanding.
@@thecagdot Thankyou Cagdot, I have tried everything, he is very active and playful, he just went to the vets 2 weeks ago for his annual vacs and checkup and he is healthy and fine according to the vet. I am home cooking for him but still walks away from chicken and sometimes lamb as that is the only thing he will pick at, he always has his dog biscuits in his dish throughout the day but doesn’t touch them, I have tried them moisture and dry to no avail, this morning I opened up a tin of dog food with veggies which even I think smells nice and looks delicious with gravy in it as he hasn’t had a try at that for awhile, he walked away! He hasn’t eaten a full meal for 2 days, yet he is so playful and energetic so do have concerns as he is not sick, he is a Shih Tzu and such a poor eater, I don’t know what to do anymore.
My Tzu is 12 and is pretty lazy. She will go out but wants to lay in the sun and watch whatever is going on! She goes to the vet once a month because she has allergies.

Have her tested for allergies. Then avoid those foods. The vet gives my Shitzu mix a shot every 3 month and it stops all her itching and skin problems. I have had her on a freeze dried beef diet for the last 7 years. No additives… pure beef. She became more muscular. She is 19 now…. She lost her sight and hearing… but she is still my love bug.

I don’t know about oils. Your dog might bite because she doesn’t feel good and wants the kids to leave her alone. It’s cheaper to cook meat or chicken and feed your dog that. Dog food has too many by products they put in that is bad for your dog. My dog loves scrambled eggs. Just make sure your dog is not allergic to eggs. Give your dog medicated shampoo baths every week . Did your vet ever say why your dog has skin problems? Have she always had skin problems? Don’t let her walk on grass … dogs can be allergic to grass and at the park they spray it with chemicals that could hurt your dog. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this

@@kathyc7899 I bath her 2 times a week but smell wont go away, I did cook for her but noticed she couldn't chew her food, I cannot check her mouth to see if she lost any teeth, she won't let me, I cannot cut her nails or put ear drops she refuses to let me touch her, breaks my heart and feel lost, I noticed also she been sleeping a lot and been using puppy pads wont go outside, I decided to put her down, but cancelled I because I just can't do that!

Too much exercise. I see people running their dogs on the concrete sidewalk. They aren't built for that since they are not wearing cushiony running shoes.
Take care of their kidneys. They are often born with canine renal dysplasia. Another reason to feed them dog appropriate foods.
