    You blend excitement with humor so effortlessly, turning what could be a harrowing experience into a captivating tale of resilience and awe-inspiring encounters with nature. Your storytelling prowess and courage on the high seas are truly admirable. And I am a floating village life from Vietnam.

      The sailing itself was awesome! We were also really glad that the attack wasn’t worse .. even though waiting for the new rudder and repairing the boat will take a long time and we are feeling with our friend. 😟

    Vraiment un gran malheur. Très bien réagi!!!. C'est aussi une expérience. Désolé pour Frank. J'espère qu'il pourra bien le réparer.

      Thanks! Definitely - we learn in each situation something new. That’s also a reason why we love sailing so much!
      It looks like it will be repaired well but it also takes a lot of time.

    I personally wouldn’t sail there, it’s like a “minefield”what I’ve heard and look at the app. But sometimes you have to go and weight your possibilities. It’s human to believe everything will go well. But it happens… good to see that you made it to a harbor and nothing worse happened. Looking forward to more of your stories.

      Yeah, we were talking about it before what we would do if it would happen but we really didn’t think that it would .. 😟 we agree, it’s not a the most relaxed sailing area (at least for us) currently

    sailing with new people isn't hard. Knowing that bad behavior gets you thrown over the side, keeps everyone mostly polite at least... Most of the time it's a great way to get to know lots of different people... You two have come such a long way in terms of your confidence, it is nice to see you manage off shore so well now. Being on someone else's boat is less stressful because the responsibility is not yours... The Orca encounters is frightening and damage was done however, all the video footage I see on line, those Orca are not angry... I have been 50 meters away from Orca teaching there young how to rip a stingray apart. Such violence I had never seen before. While a few boats have sunk because of the interactions, that was more because of a structural failure of rudder tube rather than a violent attack. They are playing with boats, it seems that is fun to them, and scary to us. They are so powerful, if they wanted to, they could demolish a 50 foot fiberglass yacht no problem at all... Good to see you both so happy...

      Thanks Colin for your words! The behavior of the orcas is mysterious but we also think that it is a playful encounter. This makes us a bit sad as the topic is shining a bad light on these animals .. It is scary and worrying and hopefully the orcas will loose interest in boats soon.
      So true what you are saying - we loved to be able to learn from Frank being on his boat and it was a lot of fun! 😊 And making a new friend was also special!

    0:54, wrong orcas, because the ones that roam the Iberian Peninsula are dwarf orcas.

    • @patandfrankie

      That’s true - it is just an example to visualize as we could not take any footage during the night.

      @@patandfrankie These orcas are not from there, they appeared during the first wave of COVID, with an adult orca washed ashore in northern Portugal, dead with deep cuts, since then orcas have been travelling up and down the coast of the Iberian Peninsula, they don't know how to return home.

    What was that chili San carne ?

    • @patandfrankie
      @patandfrankie  4 дні тому

      It was more like a vegetarian stew - chili con carne but without meat, so tomatoes & tomatoe purée, bell peppers, onion, kidney beans, corn, onion and garlic + herbs 😉 a great dish to eat with a spoon when it’s wavy 😄

    Cherry bombs! How haven’t people learnt this yet? They scarper on the double.

    • @patandfrankie
      @patandfrankie  3 дні тому

      We were lucky that they lost interest and left a bit of the rudder to steer

    • @willsta21
      @willsta21 3 дні тому +1

      @@patandfrankie They’ve tried a few times with my Jeanneau 64, it’s an expensive boat. Cherry bombs are what high school American kids throw down toilets it makes a load concussive sound and shock wave and scares them off. It doesn’t hurt them but the sensation is unfamiliar enough that they scarper. Always carry a pack when going through orca grounds all the stress disappears and then it’s fun to see them again as your not worried about your safety or damage. Happy sailing ⛵️

    Is there a reason to cross the danger zone to the Spanish coast in stead of keeping close to the 20 m. zone of Africa?👴

    • @patandfrankie
      @patandfrankie  2 дні тому +1

      A good question that we asked ourselves again and again afterwards. We tried to combine the recommendations available to us. In hindsight, we would probably have been better off choosing the route in the 20m zone along the Moroccan coast or sailing higher up the Spanish mainland (or even Portugal).

    • @Arnaud58
      @Arnaud58 День тому +1

      @@patandfrankie I realize hindsight comments are always easy.
      I think the two alternatives you mentioned are both better, but again, it's a done deal, and could have been worse.👴😉

    • @patandfrankie
      @patandfrankie  День тому +1

      Thats true 😉 also what we know is that the Orcas move with the Tunas and depending on the season they relocate along the coast. So for anyone else planning this trip it’s maybe also a tip to check where the hotspot has moved to .. 😌

    Underwater explosive or oil might prevent this harassment

    • @patandfrankie
      @patandfrankie  4 дні тому

      We think the best option is to avoid the area if it is possible and to stay in the 20m zone.
