The logic was, "if I hide a TC in the corner, he will never find it." Then he thought, "let's build a tight wall around the TC just in case." Then he saw the stone and thought, "well it's a waste if I don't wall that in with the TC too," having lost sight of the fact that walling out that far would mean his TC was no longer really hidden. Trust me, I have very low elo.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Whole thing would've been safer without a wall. Unless red was only going to the corner to begin with out of fear from blue's defenses. He was using that potentially as a waypoint to feel safe away from home but wound up finding blue anyway.
When I was a kiddo when this game came out, I would drag out games for HOURS and conserve the wood in my territory to such an extent that I just starved out every other NPC Civ and they'd be forced to send their villagers to my walls where my towers and army would pick them off one by one. I would abuse the market and ensure I have most of the relics of course. I felt that I needed to conserve the trees. Good times.
Blue's Shotel Workers' Union decreted a strike at 48:00. The ones near the main base sat and watched those arbalests take on the elephants. The others watched a single treb destroy their castle.
If you remember playing the tutorial campaign, William Wallace scenario 4, the one that requires you to destroy a watch tower. I was already terrified of exploring the fog of war, but back then I didn't really understand English, so I also terrified of the repeating, "Don't forget, keep exploring the map!". I spent hours on this scenario, amassing a very big army before even attempting to explore the map. Even now it gives me the creeps...
Clearly, blue has exiled his brother from his kingdom; his brother found a green valley, protected by a hill ideal to make a fortification, and if the game went a little more in the right way, we would clearly see the east corner city become a new Kingdom and rebel against his former brother!
I’m 36 years old and can still remember the day I went and bought a PC magazine that had a copy of the first AOE 1 demo pre release of the full game 😍 this whole series of games was epic for its time
That first engagement between elephant and shotel was 2 elephants for 28 shotels. In terms of value, Red lost 200 food, 160 gold, and Blue lost 1400 food, 840 gold.
If blue would have had the shotel warriors on aggressive while on guard it would have been fine. They didnt attack because they were on defensive stance. I put a few cavalry units on guard command with my trebuchets to attack any stragglers that get through. However, on aggressive stance, the units sometimes wander off all the way across the map in pursuit of enemies.
Oh gawd I feel *so* much for these players, they are both TERRIFIED. Doing only the most cautious attacks with gold units, and then fleeing and throwing trash at the enemy at the first sign of resistance.
Red was a Smurf trolling. Not going back through to find more proof but that was some master tactics for the elo. Like his base layout was pre designed and he knew when he placed all his farms that he would have them in the back to keep his eco safe and space on the other side for the castles to defend. His scout raid in the beginning to mind screw his opponent while taking out houses so enemy army can’t be produced to defend, also the unit control he had with them was kinda insane right? Later on he knew the siege would be bad so he started producing scouts again for them, like what player that elo would know these counters. Quite a few other things but you get the idea.
Someone who plays against AI and aggressively attacks the AI can learn all the bad habits that Red had. A high-elo trolling would not drag the game out this far because, unlike the lower elo peeps, mid-elo peeps do not enjoy watching 'low-skill' games. If one was highly skilled at something (anything) watching amateurs duke it out for an hour with that thing would get incredibly boring. T90 had a prolonged low elo vs AI stage and has slowly learnt to appreciate the nuances of LEL for casting purposes so he is not that frustrated anymore but anyone else playing this game at a higher level cannot play like this again even to troll. It would literally grate against their brains. Look at the straggler tree and heated shot frustration that T90 had. This looks like regular LEL who plays AI and likely other strategy or city sim games where bases can be made to look pretty.
@@eldenmox5525 An 800 elo player, using a 400 elo account is not smurfing - that is just a low elo account with another lower elo account. the shotel guarding wasn't that bad because this way they were really spread out and didn't did to the ballista too fast. if they were packed like before they might have gotten recked by the ballista.
I won my first ever ranked game on hideout a few weeks ago. My enemy was raiding me with light cav, so I went the other way and built a bunch of forward barracks/siege workshops where they couldn’t see. Overwhelmed him with a ram/infantry sneak attack. Blue might have been able to do the same here (although the castles make it difficult)
I don't know if its better that the left corner player clicks autoscout and then the scout runs right under opponents tc. Now you have a straight line trough the map scouted and nothing else.
I personally always get the straggler trees that are close enough to my TC to bother my farms. Its a bit of inefficiency on wood early on to help my efficiency on food later.
ABOUT CONFUSING TECHS! I got you a nice story. I remember a confusing tech in the french localisation of Age 2 (Conquerors), being the description of Theocracy. In English, it says "Only one monk has to rest", and has been mistranslated to "Only one monk survives" , making you think the tech is actually a dangerous downgrade! It was likely from a poor direct "google translation" to "Un seul moine doit *rester*" where the verb is mistaken to be the one for "staying, remaining" rather than "recovering" We call that a false friend. The error made its way all the way to 2013 Steam version, and was only corrected in DE: "Un seul moine doit se reposer". Apparently, there were also wrong descriptions to cavalry armor, stating they were beneficial to infantry...
as a chilt i didnt knew that i just had to pre chop the straguliar trees to be able to build on them. to be able to build where ever i want, i chopped them. so maybe its not just the size of the trees that makes him chop
I remember cutting the trees, starting building a palisade on them to then delete the palisade so that it looked pretty........ Now I cut and build farms over them :D
what an absolute terrible match, congratulations 🤣.... GG WP... that treb taking down the castle while blue's army stands idle for 5 minutes was painful to watch
You talking about if other games have fog of war. I remember Sudden Strike, while the map is always explored, it was scary as you couldn't actually see what you were facing and when.
us low elos like to have a separate economy so when our main base gets attacked the real economy isn't affected by the panic; town bell and poor micro and such.
Guarding stance should make the guardian follow in front of it. When you get a bunch of guardians they should automatically adopt a box formation around the unit. Microsoft, pay me with DLC.

Nooo don't surrender!
The clearing up and steamrolling is the most fun part. It's the cherry on top. The moment you have worked so hard towards!

I do love how T90 never goes too far with the teasing. No matter how exasperated he gets he goes in with understanding. Perfect man for LeL.

Red straight up playing one of those mobile base-building games from 2010.
It's been years now, I forgot how much joy this channel brings me.
Blue not making a single pikeman vs only scouts is painful to watch.
My favorite thing on Hideout is to chop closer and attack over the shared woodline. Tower, castle, trebs, all fun.
T90 and chill: "I hope I don't yell SUPPLIES at the wrong moment"
