    Great tutorial! It baffles me why OMD hasn't contacted you to do some of their classes. I don't know for sure but I'm willing to bet you know more about the settings and customization of their cameras than any of their customer facing individuals. You may know more overall than many of the designers or programmers. Thanks for all you do! I can't afford the OM1 yet but most of what you teach helps with my EM1-Mark iii as well! Thanks Rob

    Rob, your videos have been a lifeline for me in setting up my OM-1, many thanks for all the work you have done because I would have been flounderimng otherwise! Would it be possible to include some tips on seetings for use with the subject of airplanes

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  3 місяці тому

      It depends on what kind of aircraft. For slower planes, like WWI/II, you'll want to use slower shutter speeds to show propeller motion. Start with 1/320, but you may have to go as low as 1/60th. For passenger jet planes taking off/landing, 1/500-1/1000th. For fighter jets 1/1000th or faster.

    A good summary of these two menus.

    Love your channel. Learned a great deal. Coming from a sony a1 I was skeptical about this camera. I had one of the best cameras in the world but in all honesty when pics are taken correctly you get amazing bokeh. When set up correctly you have amazing af not to mention all the in camera features. I have all om1 system lenses. 7-14mm wide angle, 12-40mm, 40-150mm, 45mm f1.2
    90mm macro. Macro flash. 300mm. 1.4 teleconverter. 2x teleconverter. And everything is extremely sharp and most of all lightweight. Coming from an a1 and a canon of a 150-600mm this system is absolutely phenomenal. Features the a1 should have had at that price point. And I found screen protectors that actually allow for the screen to close and snap properly facing in. I love this system. I've done so many comparisons and you can barely tell any difference if any in picture quality even when cropping.

    So very useful as always. Unfortunately my OM-1 has played up since I first bought it. For ages I persevered thinking I was missing something, and I watched your videos and others, trying to solve the problem. Kept going back to my local store, and eventually had a long consultation with the top man in OM systems, based in Melbourne. Result so far is that my local store has shipped it to the tech section in Sydney, for a thorough assessment. I live over 1000 miles away in Townsville. A pro photographer friend had a similar experience (same behaviours), and it turned out to be the Motherboard, faulty manufacture. Replaced that and all fine since. I suspect that is what they will find with my OM-1. 😢

    Hi Rob,
    Yet another fantastic video. Well delivered and super informative. I'll certainly buy you another coffee 👍
    I have a question. At 05:38 you demonstrate adjusting the Contrast, Saturation etc. for a specific Profile (in this case, 'Natural'). If I've been out and about and have adjusted several Profiles in different ways but then, at the end of my shoot, I want to return each of those adapted Profiles to its default settings - do I have to go through the Profiles menu actually looking for where I've made adjustments or does the camera automatically return all Profiles to their default settings with either the click of a button and/or the camera being switched to 'Off'?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Рік тому +1

      Hi Lam, Thank you for the coffees! The settings will stick until you reset them. There is a "Reset Shooting Settings" in the wrench menu page/tab 6). This will reset all the exposure settings and the color profile adjustments you've made. It will not reset custom modes you setup. A full reset including custom modes (c1-c4) would be "Initialize All Settings". Be careful with that one.

    Your online teaching style should be closely reviewed by other ,so called, experts.
    It is not my intention to purchase this body, this is not a criticism, but more a statement that I need to unskilled my use of my 2 Pen Fs and my relatively recently purchased, entry level OMS body, which suits my needs, however it was curious that OMD, who would have designed the camera, omitted any Custom buttons?
    What would be the most convenient method of submitting my questions?
    Once again, many thanks.

    Hey Rob, thanks for the video. I see you have picked up the pro-capture limitation with Panasonic lenses. I find this most frustrating, as I own a number of their lenses including the Pana/Leica 200 f2.8 and 100-400. It is great that I can use them in pro-cap SH1 & SH2, but 25 FPS can be a bit fast sometimes & it would be good to be able to select the 5, 10, 15 or 20 available in pro-cap. This makes even less sence, as I can use the sequential shooting option with these lenses. OM system also don't allow them to work at the 50 FPS option in either pro-cap or sequential shooting, even though they have the fast 240 times per second focus motors. Hopefully it is something they will allow in a future firmware update.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Рік тому

      It is a bit odd. There have been several lens firmware updates in the past. Hopefully that will continue under OM System.

    Hi Rob, I have an Olympus OMD EM10II and your tutorials had been very useful. I want to buy a new camera and as I have some Olympus zuiko lenses thought to buy another Olympus to use them with the new camera. Checking your videos I want to buy an OM-D E-M1 Mark 111. I'm not a professional photographer, and the improvement of the M1 111, from your videos, looks fine, as the starry sky AF. But I heard that this model is a little old and also in considering that the brand no longer exist I'm concern whether still it this is a good choice. I will really appreciate your opinion about whether you still recomend to purchase this camera or not? thank you for your attention.

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Рік тому

      It really depends on why you want a new camera. If it's just for the starry sky af, then the em1.3 works great for that. Overall image quality is about the same so you need to think about what other features or improvements you would help your photography. Certainly the Video features, AF, shutter modes, and battery life are significantly better than the em10.2. As for the brand, it's just been sold and separated from Olympus and rebranded OM System. The new company seems fine and is working hard to bring new products to the market. Personally, I'm not worried and my experience so far has been very good. But who really knows?

    Off topic... I just upgraded to Lightroom Classic v. 12.3, which has AI Denoising. Testing it on my intel 12th gen laptop without GPU, Lightroom suggested 13 minutes to denoise a picture -- in reality, it took some 4 minutes.
    Q1: have you tested Lightroom Classic (AI) denoising? How does it compare with other tools such as DXO, etc? (Time consumption + quality)
    Q2: The denoising menu has a check mark for upscaling the picture, but there appears to be no response when I try to check it... How does this work?

    • @RobTrek
      @RobTrek  Рік тому +1

      I just downloaded and gave it a go on a few images. It's doing a great job! It's very fast on my computer with gpu. Like 30 seconds. For very high iso (20,000 in this case), it's not as good at retaining details, but this works better for people shots. PureRaw tends to oversharpen skin. For birds and other stuff, PureRaw pulls more details with less noise. LR is producing better colors at very high iso. These are just initial impressions, so take it with a grain of salt.
