WILL NEVER FORGET....... Being Just A Kid And Loving The "Guilding Light" In The 1970s'. Charita Bauer Was The "Anchor" Of That Show And SomeHow She Was Involved In All The StoryLines. God Bless Her. She Is Still Missed Today !! Love Billy Ralph.
I read that they had no plans to write in Bert's death, and only fan discontent (after over a year) changed their minds. That may be why they made so little effort on her goodbye episodes. It's amazing to think that, thanks to the stream of cast departures in the early 80's, that Jerry ver Dorn, who'd joined in 1979, was somehow the longest running consecutive cast member by 1985. I guess the only one who may have been around longer was Denise Pence, who was on her way out.
It was horrible to lose Charita. I loved her like my own grandma. The show was a total disgrace in how they honored her. Many cast members from the past should have been brought back and this would have been the perfect time to bring back Rita played by Lenore Kasdorf and revealed she left pregnant with twins by Ed, that reveal would have Rocked Springfield and returned the Bauer’s to their prominent role.
@bluerose8508 P&G had been trying to make the show younger and hipper for years and years, starting with the firings of Holly's mother, and the wonderful Sara McIntire, Roger's father, etc. At first you wouldn't notice, because it was at the edges, but once the show lost focus you could see how they were hollowing it out. Sometimes I'm half-amazed GL still managed to revive itself over and over for 25 more years.
if i see that video on youtube when they killed ross i don't watch it ,,,,,,,,,i watched it one time made me cry .............all so they could focus on couples being into incest ala jonathon and tammy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the reva ...............
@@TitanicTubi I do . It pretty much became the Reva show. I hated that Island story where she married a prince. Ridiculous. Then Cassie and Reva's illegitimate son got married. To be honest I was done by that time. I couldn't take it anymore.
@CarlD2 It really was a big mistake that GL didn't bother bringing back any past characters for Bert's memorial. At the very least Hope and Mike Bauer should have been there. It didn't really help that GL was undergoing another beneath the scenes upheaval and Jefff Ryder and Gail Kobe were on their way out. It seems like GL had a new headwriter every other month in 1986. I really wonder what was going on at P&G to cause all this turnover.
It was disgusting how the Kobe/Long team treated the legendary Charita Bauer. Many characters should have been brought back to honor the Queen of daytime.
@7997vinster AW was a mess - they dumped many longtime characters and were in the process of writing out even more - I believe that only a handful of actors who were on AW at the start of 1986 were still there by spring 1987.

You could tell Jerry VerDorn was choking up on the verge of tears when giving this tribute.
RIP, Jerry. 🙏🏾
Well said BlueRose. The producers should have bought back Mike, Hope & Allen Michael for Bert's memorial. Hard to believe its been over 27 years.

Although gl would last another 24 years, the way Bert bauer's death and memorial service were handled was the beginning of the end for gl.
Never underestimate the power of a disgruntled soap fan! Particularly a Guiding Light fan! Rest in peace Charita/Bert
I so miss Charita. The cast was gutted by the time she died. It must have been horrible for her to watch this grand show turn into a pile of crap.

They never should have killed Ross off. That was one of the final nails in the coffin for me.
