  • One of my favorite parts of building these; there's nothing like the first time you get to sit in your machine and turn the wheels. It also makes pushing it around a lot easier. I hope this simple and effective approach is useful the the VF-2 builders along with the VF-1 and other custom builds.
    The video shows the final rendition of the steering shaft, at the end of the video is the first attempt and the u-joints were binding. The video would have been too long if I showed both set ups. Enjoy the build.

    I'm using a crossfire 150 as my first build setting up seats can suck doing it by yourself

      Nice! A racing seat will make you love your kart like it’s the first time you’re driving it. I’ve gotten used to working alone. I’ll call in help from time to time but this is my hobby after all… I always call in help for testing though 🤓

    Seats look sweet, but how would they be on a 3-4 hr ride up in the mtns… as in comfort……

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 роки тому +5

      The seats are extremely comfortable. I’d say more comfortable than stock rzr seats. If leisurely trail rides are your goal I would set up the driver position towards that. There may be enough room for a lexus 8 way power seat!

    Just found this build series, really good looking design with plenty of versatility. Building a kart of my own has always been something I've wanted to do. Do your designs come in metric measurements to save converting, or imperial only? Not sure if your program gives you an output option to easily swap between the two.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  Рік тому

      Thank you! I’m currently working on getting them in both metric and imperial. It’s not as easy as you would think (at least not in plan form). There are several builders that have taken the time to do the conversions themselves with success. I just use “hey siri, what is 4 5/8 inches in millimeters?” Works like a charm. I wish you the best and thank you again.

    How hard do you think it would be to make one of these that's enclosed from the elements like a car? I mean properly enclosed like you could drive in a rainstorm and run 10-20mph through almost 1ft deep flood puddles in the streets and still be dry and comfy. The reason I ask is I'm considering getting some fab tools and converting my Vstrom-650 into a fuel-efficient but fun/fast-ish mini car instead of buying an existing used car.
    *EDIT:* That aside, I think you may have overestimated how high the steering wheel would've been without modification. You appeared to be holding it mocked up a solid 2" above where it would actually sit on the shaft. This would've dropped it down to chin level or just below once installed, and at least as far as _I'm_ concerned, that's about perfect as it mimics the middle ground between a GT car and Rally car driving position and gives ample clearance for the legs to move about.
    This is particularly advantageous for ingress and egress and when making high-angle steering inputs (120-180 degrees) without actually letting go of the wheel and doing the whole hand-over-hand thing, which would be rather important if you had an overall steering ratio of 3:1 and a good 50-60 degrees of lock each way at the hubs.

      Amazon for the racing seats and 50 caliber racing for the off road booster seat.

    I'm interested in purchasing some plans for a cross kart, just wondering if theres a set of plans with metric measurements?

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 роки тому

      The conversion is very easy and there have been a lot of metric builders with 100% success on their builds. The plans do not include the CAD to make them affordable. I hope you get the chance to build one 🦾

    You could have left the angle iron as you originally wanted it, but have the bolts come from the side instead of the bottom.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 роки тому

      You know I never even thought about drilling through the sides of the brackets, good call and thank you! I’m planning on adding seat sliders so I was stuck on the idea of mounting it on top. I will definitely revisit seat mounting with your suggestion, thank you.

    When I purchase the plans for one of your kits, Do you give a list of how many feet of what pipe, angle iron ect. we would need to build your crosscart? That would be awesome that way I could call my metal supplier order what I need with 1 purchase. I know a person is going to need the things like flat plat well let’s just say a lot more but to get the bulk of what I need in the beginning would save a lot of time and money. Because my supplier charges a delivery fee. Thanks Bobby Wright

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  10 місяців тому

      Yes. It is all explained in the plans by type and size of tube needed. Flat bar requirements are not in the plans but most guys can but that locally. Thank you for the interest!

    Does that have bump steer? The way the rack isn't parallel with the lower control arms causes bump steer right?

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  Рік тому

      Vertical placement of the rack deosn’t cause bump steer. The position of the rack ends/tie rod ends causes/reduces bump steer. That’s why I make mine adjustable. There is a video on my channel showing exactly how I do it to get minimal to zero bump steer.

    so I pause at 6:09 and I'm wondering why you dont just swap the L plates from side to side so everything is outside of the seat, (room permitting)

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  2 роки тому

      The answer to that is at 5:09. I also tried flipping the NRG seat brackets but that didn’t work either. The L plates are just tacked in so when I get the sliders I’ll try some other configurations. But I would also be okay with leaving them how they are.
