- On the occasion of ‘The New Bend’ at our Somerset gallery, Hauser & Wirth London hosted a conversation between the curator of the exhibition Legacy Russell, Executive Director & Chief Curator of The Kitchen, and fashion designer and curator Duro Olowu.
This talk reflected on the influence of Gee’s Bend and the ways in which Black diasporic practices of textile work had transformed the imaginations of abstraction and modernism across time.

the 2002 Gee's Bend exhibit at the Whitney was curated by Dr. Alvia Wardlaw, originating at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Whitney iteration was organized by Debra Singer. Important to get this history correct (this curator has made the same mistake repeatedly), and not erase a foundational black woman curator.
I wonder what H&W intends with this "contemporary art" entry, it looks more like content for H&M to me.
What profit is there for a gallery owner when he tries to turn reality upside down.
