First where is the protest grounds at Columbia University? Second if they are not gathered and do not have the permit to assemble for a protest at the designated place then they must disperse or be arrested and expelled. If any facility is involved then they should be immediately fired (from the custodian to professors). End of story.
Well... doing any of these things would do nothing to help the starving and suffering people of Gaza. That is why the students are protesting. Does that matter to you?
(1) The area in front of the Low Library, where the students are protesting now, is the traditional area for protest at Columbia University. (2) According to Prof. Joseph Slaughter, Columbia University did have regulations about protests, which were written in collaboration with the students and faculty senate after the 1968 demonstrations. The students were following those rules. But the Columbia administration, led by president Shafik, ignored those rules, and unilaterally changed those rules, in violation of Columbia's own rules. According to the rules, Shafik had to consult with the faculty senate before calling the police on campus. She didn't do so. So Shafik is breaking the rules. She may not have had legal authority to call the police, and so all those arrests were illegal.

What is the actual evidence of antisemitic incidents, what’s the itemized list of what’s actually happened?

I think this is the critical point, too much of this debate is non specific incidents or things being yelled out from a crowd. I really think this is a primarily a media story, there may have likely been instances of antisemitism but these protests are being painted with the world’s largest brush.
Get out of your bubble and you would know:
- A sign pointing at Jewish counterprotestors that reads, "Al-Qasam’s Next Target," with an arrow pointing at them.
- A human chain to physically push Jewish students out of the area
- stabbing a Jewish student in the eye with a Palestinian flag
- "We are Hamas"
- "Go back to Poland"
- "The 7th of October is going to be every day for you."
- "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free."
That's just off the top of my head, need I go on?
There were 2 people yelling things and holding up 2 signs in 2 different areas, and one person accidentally hit by a flag. That’s it. In a crowd of hundreds, 2 people. And one of them wasn’t even a student, they were outside the campus. And both were condemned by the actual Columbia students protesting. And there are dozens of Jewish students in the protest as well making a point to celebrate Passover openly with others there and they have said they don’t feel threatened at all. I’m Jewish and these student protests are not anti-Semitic they are anti-sending weapons to Israel after 34,000 people have been killed in Gaza. John’s example in the video had nothing to do with the current protests, that happened in the past with an individual doing that elsewhere.

What are examples of the rights of other students being taken away because of campus protests? Why is it so hard to understand that standing up and demanding defunding and deescalation of Israel in Palestine is not antisemitism?
It's hard to understand because (1) Most people, like the ones posting here, don't have any understanding of the First Amendment or academic free speech (2) The supporters of Israel have been spreading false, libelous accusations, which Johnson repeated, and which the news media uncritically reported. (3) According to a New York Times story, "Donors stay largely silent among new wave of campus protests," some donors, like Robert Kraft, threatened to withhold his donations if Columbia allowed free speech for anti-Israel protesters. According to the Anti-Defamation League, every time a Palestinian student says "From the river to the sea," that's an antisemitic attack, and it goes into their database.

What Hamas did at the Music Festival was horrible. What Netanyahu is doing to Gaza is awful. The civilians on both sides suffer as a result. Palestinian Nationalism and Jewish Zionism have been at conflict since the late 19th century. The UN partition Plan in 1947 led to the Palestine war in 1948. Part of these protests is a long term dislike of each other.. Maybe the USA could quit funding Israel for the time being but that doesn't' Guarantee the Netanyahu will quit his attacks. How are they "not safe?" Are they not safe because someone is protesting with speech? Yes, if there are threats of violence. But without that I don't see an issue. But you have to ask more questions. "who is threateing you? with violence? protesteors? People on campus? have you been attacked with violence? Have you been threatened with violence, where and by whom?" And ask policy questions: Should aid be unrestricted, do you favor two states, are you in favor of removal of all palestenians from gaza? etc" Saying "we are scared is of little value to me in terms of finding a solution. Even the speaker says "not saying these protesters are antisemetic, not saying because you disagree with the war you're antisemetic." Fine but seems without further detail that's exactly what's being said here. Cause not once in this story did they point to a single instance of violence or antisemitism. I'm not saying it isn't there. I'd be surprised if it wasn't in a small way at least cause students are young and reactionary. But to be good journalism it needs to go deeper, ask more questions, speak in details. Cause i want to know if the people in tents protesting are being antisemetic to the students. If so deal with it. That's a problem. If not, then they are just protesting and then "fear" is irrational and that needs to be dealt with.

Students wasting their time, energy, and misplaced anger on an issue that doesn't deserve this level of attention. Yes, there should be an end to the Israeli onslaught of innocent Gazans but this should not be about anti-semitism. Whether you support Israel or not, students taking their anger out on Jewish students is preposterous. Shame. As for Palestinian statehood, maybe it's time for Palestinian Arabs to take a good long look at their past history and mistakes made by their leadership at getting an opportunity for statehood. Nothing but failure and consistent anger and hatred towards Israel. Once Palestinians learn to love their children more than hate Israel, there will be peace.
