- Interfacing Camera Module with Raspberry Pi4 is three steps process.
Step 1: Connect Camera Module
Step 2: Enable Camera Interface
Step 3: Capture Images & Videos
We’ll learn how to use Standard Raspberry Pi Camera. There are two types of cameras both works the same way so doesn’t matter which Raspberry Pi Camera we use. Make sure it has Flat ribbon cable for CSI Connector. We’ll be using V1.3 Camera Module.
We can easily differentiate the versions; it’s mentioned on our Camera Module Rev 1.3. This version uses CMOS Sensor OmniVision OV5647. The camera has around 5 Megapixel resolutions. The video is of good quality 1080p at 30 fps with codec H.264 (AVC) advance video coding. The connection between Camera and RPi will happen over ZIF 15 Connector and CSI Ribbon Cable.
This is a best video for camera enable in this no any unnecessary lectures . No time wasted .
Thanks LittleCode for your words. I will consider making more video on Camera interfacing with Raspberry Pi in coming months. Good luck friend!
In the first part of the video, where you explain plugging the camera module in... If you are at liberty to change the room, the audio would benefit from hanging some curtains, or spare fabric items up in the room to reduce echo.
The fancier option is to use sound paneling, but it's more involved to install.
Your microphone itself sounds good. Nothing to complain about.
The explanation of how to plug the camera in was a bit wordy, but it had all the important details. If you want to increase the quality of your videos, consider writing a script ahead of time. Adding a slight pause after you say something will also help the viewer have time to process the information you gave them. It was fine in this video, but if you read from a script quickly, you may talk faster than normal. (I'm just trying to predict possible problems before they happen.)
I realize this video was over a year ago, and you have probably improved since then if you've continued making videos. Please excuse me for giving unsolicited advice, I hope you don't find it rude.
No mention of the software you used or where it came from.???????????????????
Very well demonstration on connectivity of Respberry-pi with camera.
Thanks Sir . . . Can you plz suggest direct camera software, thereby we can take photo by direct click
Umesh!. That was an awesome video about rpi cam.....i use putty for ssh but you introduced me to bitvise....Thank You and Live long and Prosper 😊
Thanks Mr. Rama! Glad to know you enjoyed this Raspberry Pi Camera Module Tutorial. Have a good day!
Umesh, this is a fantastic video. Do you have a video explaining how you can send this image or video to AWS for processing say by Kinesis video streams or something like that?
Thank you, you've solved my problem. I've inversed connector, camera was not detected :-) Nos it's OK. Great.
One of the best explanation video on YT🙌
Wow, thanks Om!
great explanation...worked in 1st shot :) thankyou.
Great, thanks !!
which raspberri pi OS version are you using?
Please let us know
After Enabling Camera Interface and sudo reboot....Error showing in VNC that is "cannot currently show the desktop"......what to do now...ts urgent...please help....I've tried resolution change as well....it isn't working
reply me please.....!!
It seems like you've issue with VNC on Raspberry Pi. Maybe after shutdown when you restart may work properly. Otherwise use Bitvise SSH Client for remote desktop login to Raspberry Pi. Good luck!
@@BINARYUPDATES thank you so much for your reply....my problem got fixed after disabling my HDMI's from configuration
Hi sagar, iam also facing the same issue. I would be grateful if you please tell me how should I get rid of this error..

I am starting to use the the camera for the pi, and i noticed there are 4 holes in the corners of the camera. Normal mounting nails for the pi 4 model b do not fit in that hole. Do you know which size nail fits in the holes?
Blue strip end faces the ports (on the ZIF connector)
@umesh Can you provide the BoM fro this testing as the camera module i am using is different.
I think you watch a lot of Russian and German video. You accent is much like them. But it was a great explaination
Good demonstration!
Hi I’m running Ubuntu 22.04 on a raspberry pi 4. Can I still use the camera and if so how? Thank you
What is the application he used to take the image?
When I run the raspi-config command, the camera option to enable does not appear
Hi Luise, to turn on camera run sudo raspi-config command in terminal and then select "Interfacing options" under that somewhere you'll find Interfaces Tab in option to select Enable Raspberry Pi camera interface. I hope this may help. If you won't find easily i recommend to browse all options under raspi-config to explore more. Good luck and best wishes!

That black one which u r pulling has been broken what to do???
Im not sure if someone could help you repair Raspberry Pi. Maybe try at some local mobile repair shop if they can help you replace CSI connector on Raspberry Pi Camera
Thanks for the video However, how did you put Windows on your Raspberry pi?
Hi Crash, I used remote access using Bitvise SSH Client. This let us access Raspberry Pi from Windows machine. Good luck!
hello thankyou for this video
i have a problem when i run : sudo raspistill -o img.jpg
mmal: Cannot read camera info, keeping the defaults for OV5647
mmal: mmal_vc_component_create: failed to create component 'vc.ril.camera' (1:ENOMEM)

hi i hav the same problem, were you able to fix this
thanks for the explanation
Glad it was helpful!
nice demonstration
What app are you using at 5:53? I'm lost from that point forward...
It is a ssh client software, there are plenty of clients available most famous is Putty. In the video he is using bitvise ssh client.
Thank you so much, this helps me a lot!
Glad it helped!
The camera does not show the slow image when recording the Videos????
Raspberry Pi Camera is slow sometimes to respond with lower frames per seconds FPS. Make sure you've quality power supply while making camera module streaming video using Raspberry Pi4. Sometime because of lack of power raspberry pi slows down processing camera images and videos. I hope this may help you. Good luck!
@@BINARYUPDATES thanks for the answer, what happens is that I wanted to make a small video recorder but the images are slow
sir what os did you use to run in your raspberry pi ?
In this video, I've used Raspbian official Raspberry Pi OS. But the instruction will work the same with latest Raspberry Pi OS
Nice explaination
Thank you for this video sir!
My pleasure!
I am new to his area. For Camera Module Rev 1.3., is the camera parts replaceable by another camera from a smartphone? Should I obtain an driver or edit the specification to make it work? Look forwards your reply and thanks in advance
If you want to use smart phone camera with Raspberry Pi then you need to connect your phone as a client and then access phone camera over local network. Its possible but it may require you to install additional software packages on Raspberry Pi. I hope this may help you. Good luck. Thanks
hi thanks for your tutorial please how do you turn of the picamera from the terminal
Hi Peter, you can turn off camera through configuration wizard of raspberry pi only, This will require you to run command "sudo raspi-config" and then navigate in camera interface settings to turn off.
Where to buy this quality cam?
Hi Adam, this is very subjective question depending on which country you live. But I'll suggest choose Raspberry Pi's official retailer or distributor. Mostly, Raspberry pi Camera modules found to be genuine everywhere as its difficult to replicate. I hope this guidelines may help you. Good luck and best wishes!
what version of raspbian are you using in this video ? because the new version has issues with lcd 3.5 inch Driver
Hi Mohamed, I've used Raspberry Pi4 in this video lesson
can we use 1 raspi for more than 1 camera.. maybe 4 or 5 camera?? 🤔
Yes if you can USB Hub to connect USB Web Cams. You can connect 4-USB Webcam and 1- Standard Raspberry Pi Camera Module with CSI Connector. I hope this can help you. Thanks
Umesh Lokhande
It asks me about enabling or disabling a legacy camera support?!
Then, say Enable Legacy Camera as anyways you want to use Camera with Raspberry Pi
I am not getting that camera option in interfacing options what to do
Bro now you got option of camera?? I also faced same issue
Please make sure you're using Raspberry Pi OS BUSTER version. In new Raspberry Pi OS old Camera interface is not supported. It support new RPi Camera module which uses different drivers. I'll suggest using older Raspberry Pi OS. Good luck and best wishes!
is there any light in the camera that will blink when the camera is connected?
Hi Gowtham, in the present version of Raspberry Pi Camera Module there isn't any LED built in. But you can connect external LED Raspberry Pi to blink while taking picture from camera. I hope this may help. Wish you a beautiful day. Thanks!
@@BINARYUPDATES thank you bro
cant we get a live vedio
Hi Abhilash, you can stream live videos using various software's even there are dedicated OS available for Raspberry Pi. This makes easy to capture live video using RPi and camera module. Have a good day!
bash: raspistill: commamd not found.... iam getting this error when we enter raspistill -o image.jpg. Can u plz help me sir
Hi Darsana
This is strange, maybe packages are broken on your Raspberry Pi for Camera Interface. Try to update and upgrade RPi. If it doesn't help think about formatting your SDCard and check with fresh Raspberry Pi OS. Fixing these broken packages sometimes waste more time than flashing OS again. I hope this may help. Good luck
Best Wishes
Umesh Lokhande
How to connect two cameras?
Can we use other cis connector?
Hi Himanshu, in my opinion as there is only one CSI connector you can connect one standard Raspberry Pi camera using CSI and other USB Web Camera you can interface using available USB connector on Raspberry Pi. I'm not aware of any CSI extender if there is any in market. I hope this may help you. Good luck, best wishes!
Does Red led on camera active? Thank you in advance.
In my knowledge there is not Red Led
Thanks for your time
Kithe camera option is not showing in my raspi-config, can you have any solution for this??, If anyone has please reply
Hi Pratik, check under "Interfacing options" under raspi-config command. you'll find somewhere. Otherwise use GUI or Desktop version on HDMI monitor and then navigate the menu bar and manually turn on Camera option. Sometimes the place to find camera settings changes as per version of Raspberry Pi OS you've installed. Good luck and best wishes!
Thanks sir👍
Thanks Nagesh for the visit 👍
Is it possible to have chord of camera more than 7 m?
Yes Amandeep, you need to buy longer CSI Flat Ribbon cable to connect your Raspberry Pi with Camera Module
My camera is not getting detected, in interface it's not showing
Hi Baseeth, I would suggest confirm proper connection of camera with your Raspberry Pi. Especially, flat ribbon cable. And then check raspberry pi configuration and turn on camera using command sudo raspi-config. Also make sure raspberry pi camera is good in condition because its very sensitive. I hope this may help you. Good luck and best wishes!
Nice Video👌👍
Thank you Rupali 👍
Camera buying link?
are you on windows os installed on your pi?
Hi, I've used Raspberry Pi OS in this Camera Module to interface. I'm thinking of making video soon to install and use Windows on Raspberry Pi4. Thank you for your input! Best wishes!
Thank you so much
Does camera rev1.3 works on rpi 5??
I think Raspberry Pi Camera Module V1.3 should work with RPi5. I have not yet tried though. Best wishes!
great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Right.. :)
Too much right somebady counted this? Maby we had new world record

can i ask what is the OS version ?
Its Raspbian Buster Legacy version used with Raspberry Pi4
doesnt work for me no option to enable camera
Hi Jeff, please check in Raspberry Pi configuration section. There you'll find camera related setting to enable RPi Camera Interface. The command is "sudo raspi-config" or else try with desktop version, i mean using GUI of Raspberry pi OS to enable Camera interface
I hope this may help you. Good luck and best wishes!
@@BINARYUPDATES hello thank you for reply ive tried that the only option is enable legacy camera. no one seems to know answer. With lagacy enabled still doesnt work..
Nice experience
Thanks Chinmay. I appreciate it!
So u mean if I'm using that those moduls, we have to use that a bit program???
Hi Anto, you need Raspberry Pi4 and Camera Module. And you can use any SSH Client to access RPi either Bitvise SSH Client or PuTTY anything of you choice.
thx man
What is the range of the camera ? I am currently trying to start a project for school on object detection but need to know how far can a camera detect things from.
Hi Angel, I've used Raspberry Pi Camera Module Version 1.3 (V1.3) in this video lesson
Nice👌
thanks sir
How to record audio with video?
You first need a sound chip, and/or a sound mic module
Does anyone know if you can attatch a sense hat and a camera to the pi 4?
Yes, but it gets messy
@@joshuagonzalez1282 thanks for the reply, I have since done it, I do agree with you and it throws off the temperature sensor too, I have used it to build a camera and monitor for my girlfriend's pet hamster, it does work well however as you say, it is a bit messy
I had a problem with pi camera and raspberry pi 4
mmal : cannot read camera info, keeping the defaults os5647
Mmal :vc component_create_core,failed to create component 'vc.ril.camera' (1:ENOMEN)
etc...........
I had the same problem
I also got the same issue,It's because of loose connection
@BalaEsakki V Hey! i solved this issue. You have to install some tools for camera module. Firstly raspistill and then raspivid. use this code sudo apt-get install raspistill for raspistill and use this code sudo apt-get install raspivid for raspivid. Last one raspistill -t 5000 -o anyImage.jpg and this is the solve.
I have problem mmal:mmal_vc_component_enable:failed to enable component:ENOSPC
Hi i'm having a problem : when I go into the raspi-config menu, the option to activate the camera doesn't appear
