  • Thanks to Nick Barton for the suggestion
RPi-Cam-Web-Interface wins hands down for video streaming and motion detection. Forget MotionEye as you don't get fast FPS. With RPi-Cam-Web-Interface, you can expect 20-30fps even on a pi zero.

I successfully used rip-cam-web-interface with a zeroW. But that was before the new camera interface broke it. I’m glad to hear that it’s been upgraded, sort of, by using the “enable legacy camera” feature in RasPiOS that was eventually added

Great video, I been testing a RPi W 2 zero as a meteor-cam with the HQ camera and fisheye lens, I been using battery 16850 to powered it, thanks again.

What's the performance like for RPi W 2 zero for video capture / motion detection? Can it do any more than 1080p@30fps?

Another very useful vid Lee 😊👍🏼
Any chance you could try to get it working with the v3 auto focus camera module.
I too only found out about this software recently, I’ve been using MotionEyeOS for some time but that doesn’t support the new cameras.

I've been using it since 2015 on pi zero w. On pi lite. Runs like a champ. Gonna save the card, use dietpi, put newest version on pizero 2w and use larger SD card since it records on the pi. Have it set to to 5 minute videos and delete oldest when card is 75% full.

I've been using the rpi-cam-web-interface on my ZeroW2 for a while now as a baby monitor.
It's been working great for me on WiFi but I set up a static IP for the cam by editing the /etc/dhcpcd.conf file. That enabled me to always use the same IP to access it, which allows me to bookmark the link. When using WIFi the IP of the PI will likely change with every reboot.

Thanks Lee! I also can’t believe I haven’t heard of this! I’m amazed at the responsiveness.! Looks like all my motion eye are going to be replaced.
Did you run htop to see the cpu usage when it was on motion detect?
If you get wifi working, there’s gonna be a 5seconds or more delay in capturing. Also quality will drop. I realised this and invested in a switch, and run all my cameras off Ethernet. Definitely worth the time to set up., not to mention security and privacy. Wifi packets can be snooped on, especially cams 👍
    Thanks again👍

I'm curious about the 5 second delay with wifi - is there not any way to have the Pi itself start capturing before wifi, and then you get the video delayed by 5 seconds but after the fact you can view the video immediately when the pi started capturing and storing to its own cache?

this was introduced by a local YT user here ....
the problem with the "hub setup" -- is that if you are extracting from one disk and placing it to another disk in this hub's setup -- they cancel each other's top MB transfer rate -- all this while on the same USB connector ....
this is why I use a different hub and making sure each disk is not interfering each other when transferring data -- from less use (one hub)to a more often used disk (another hub) .... I always get a quick data transfer rate with this setup ....
    just saying ....

This is great, seems so much better than MotionEye which was good apart from the lag etc. I'm planning to use this for a surveillance camera looking at my drive using a Pi Zero 2W with a RPi Night Vision camera. The plan is to have the camera on the wall outside with the Pi inside the garage connected via HDMI cable using a CSI to HDMI Adapter kit which seems to work. On other projects I have used a USB stick or SSD mounted on the Pi to store data rather than the Pi SD card and accessing this data via WIFI using Filezilla or similar. Please can someone tell me how to do similar in conjunction with the RPi-Cam-Web-Interface?

To use on wifi program the wifi details into rpi imager when you burn the OS to the SD card, same as you normally would. Legacy is definitely the way to go, had constant crashes on bullseye, immediately rock solid with legacy, also had lots of crashes using a zero 2w, solid on a pi4, can't remember if that was on bullseye though. 5G wifi helps loads on the pi4, wired obviously better. Better to run off a hard drive, rather than an SD too as it compresses (boxes) the recordings after they are done so the quicker the filesytem the better, also helps if you have loads of recordings and it's trying to download the thumbnails.

What was the latency like over wifi? I'm considering using rpi zeo w2 as wifi webcam on battery. I'm mechanic and looking for low as possible latency remote camera as second eye to look into like plc cabinets etc. when working on otherside of machines and like. Obviously resolution needs to be semi decent too to see some details.

It would be quite useful to add some OS compatibility information. For instance I found the latest Raspberry Pi OS (bookworm) incompatible as it does not support "gpac" package, yet. That is the reason for the installation scrtipt (install.sh) to fail.

    • @gravityowns8559
      @gravityowns8559 9 місяців тому

There is a way to get around that. You have to manually install the latest version of php. From there you can get to the "Start camera system now" message. But that's where things stop. Once you click yes, you get "raspimjpeg: command not found". Since the new version of the os removed it, I dont think this will work.

First time user with the raspberry pi, I've been trying to setup my raspberry pi 3 with a camera for a 24/7 camera that connects to a livestream. I am currently having difficulty trying to figure out how to get the camera to turn on, on startup and then connect to a livestream automatically. I also have worries for whenever the wifi goes out that the livestream may disconnect. I assume I need to run a script that tries to reconnect to the livestream if that happens. But I am in the dark here about this stuff.
