      I remember showing my dad seasons 1-4 and he loved it and he usually doesn’t like fantasy genres. We were excited to watch season 5 and we went from confused to boredom. So many things didn’t make sense but the saddest part was when my dad said “Bran wasn’t even in this season”. Remember that huge hype from season 4? “you will fly” D&D kinda forgot about that.

    Tyrion going from the absolute smartest character to one of the dumbest is so infuriating. Second only to Brans story arc, "I'm the three-eyed Raven plus I'm paralyzed from the waist down so I can't make heirs, I have no desire to be king." About the c*ck jokes: for some reason nowadays showrunners tend to think that swearing and obscene jokes are a necessary part of ANY kind of show to have comedy elements. I don't know if it's because they want to capture the attention of younger people or they simply try to hide their incompetence in writing, but it's really annoying. The recently released second season of the Witcher is also full of them, and for the majority of the people who say them it's just so out of character: priestesses, queens/kings, the leader of a sorceress academy... I'm not trying to defend D&D, but it's not solely their fault, it's mostly the fault of this idiotic trend, and also the fact that a lot of people watch almost anything if it looks good

      @@jeepersjava Basically because anything can be sold with naked people today... Doesn't matter if the show has bad writing, if there's enough sexual scenes, people will watch it. And sadly most showrunners only do it for quick money, they don't want to create something unique and meaningful. It's also the fault of our faster lifestyle, people demand content, so companies like HBO and Netflix put higher pressure on showrunners to make something that can be sold in a short time for large profit

You can make a scene where a handful of talented actors display their skills through complex dialogue. 2. You could have a big battle scene with dozens or even hundreds of people working hard to make an amazing spectacle the audience will never forget. 3. You could pour lots of time and resources into animating magic fantasy creatures doing something epic. 4.     While there's a lot of stupidity in Season 6, I'd like to nitpick on two points in the video;
    6:45 - It is heavily implied that the man the Mountain kills is the abusive father of one of the "little birds" Qyburn is using. In a later scene Qyburn is talking to one of the kids, asking how the kid's eye and his mother's jaws are healing. Asks if he has seen his father, kid replies 'No one has seen him', to which Qyburn replies 'And no one will, that worked out rather nicely'. Qyburn killed the father using the Mountain to solidify the kid's loyalty. I kinda liked those scenes after connecting the dots as it gave us a little insight on how the 'recruitment' process works.
    6:15: No one was helping Arya, likely because they likely know who and what the Waif is. When Arya arrived at Bravoos, it was shown that the local populace knows who the faceless men are when the thugs ran away in fear from one of Jaqen's disguises. I'd not get in their way either. The people who are not helping and watching are two young girls, and some beggars who likely don't give any shit, it's pretty reasonable that none of them helped Arya, even if they had no idea who the Waif was.

    Got really had a decline in quality after season 4. But everything was sort of forgivable up until two key moments in s7. Bronn surviving the dragonfire on s7 e4 was a huge red flag. When that battle started, I really felt his time had come, and being Got I knew he'd die for sure since he really had no more room in the story to go. It really was his time and would have made that battle that much more meaningful losing a big character like him. Then he didn't die. And not only that, he then saved Jamie in the most ludicrous and ridiculous manner possible. The first unforgivable thing the show did imo. Then s7 e6 (Beyond the wall) happened. And it cemented that Got was dead. That entire episode is a complete disaster and everything that happens after that just keeps getting worse.

He's standing straight and even had a woman with him but when he needs to answer the door or something he goes into his hunch as if getting into character. Am I crazy or did this happen and then nothing come of it since he is very infirm throughout the rest of the series.

He's sitting on his bed wheezily waxing about dead kings to a whore as she gets dressed, and then as soon as she leaves he hops to his feet, does some deep squat stretches, then dresses himself and assumes a shuffling stoop before opening his door. Then, after Tyrion is injured in the Blackwater, Pycelle greets him with a steady voice and a frighteningly clear gaze. So it was there, without a deleted scene. But we're talking about season 2 and earlier, and we all know why those seasons were more consistent.

Cersei locks up the begging brothers whom are basically seven worshippers whom tell doomsday prophecies even though tyrion opposed it. What really is missing in the context of Cersei blowing up the Sept of Baelor, for it to make sense that she still had the favour of the people , is for Cersei to address the incident to the court/the people and claim that the explosion was caused by the leader of the fanatics, the High Sparrow, in an attempt to murder both their king and queen. She could even brush it off, to make the lie more believable, by claiming her respect for the gods and also reminding people that her beloved, and recently deceased, son AND daughter was buried there, and now she has no place to mourn her loss. Most people could believe that, as they saw how the fanatics acted with violence. And since the explosion was clearly caused by dragonfire -which the people had already seen/heard about, she could have lied and said that the fanatics had captured the alchemists and forced them to produce it for them, which the fanataics planned to use to burn the people of the city and the royal family alive with, would they not yield to their new rule.
    Would've made a quick scene, in which this was established, and then people wouldn't be so confused as to WHY the people aren't rising up against her.
    But, we all know that D&D would never had been so clever as to think of simple logic, and actually know how Cersei works and how conniving she is, despite having had all the books and the actresses' input on the matter.

    I feel like a lot of these "characters being dumb" moments are only really a problem retroactively. When you're watching a show like this, you trust the writers to a degree and assume that things like Tyrion being "off his game" in seasons 5 and 6 are intentional, and will have a deliberate impact on the story later. Watching for the first time, I assumed that he was just sitting around making dick jokes because he was drunk and didn't really care as a result of the events of season 4. In season 5, him wanting to drink and do nothing is a conflict between him and Verys, so watching 6 I was expecting his mistakes to catch up with him or for him to have a moment where he finally "snaps out of it" and returns to his old self.
    It's only when you realize that that's just how he is now for the duration of the show, and that the writers aren't meaning to portray him that way, that his season 6 portrayal becomes bad. It would have been really interesting if, as everything's going to shit in Meereen, Tyrion finally wakes up and makes and 11th hour decision that saves the day, and realistically earns the trust of Danaerys and her lieutenants. Instead he pretty much runs the city into the ground and Danaerys herself shows up and saves the day, and then doesn't let the dragons play with Tyrion like a dog toy or take any meaningful action against him for his incompetence. Honestly she acts like she watched season 2 on HBO during some downtime in the pyramid, because she trusts Tyrion way too quickly given how little she should know about him.

    You know, in the hands of good writers, Tyrion's bad jokes and constant belittlement of Varys in the later seasons could have been intentional; a subtle way of showing he's so far gone at this point he can't even put in the effort for witty remarks. He wanted to leave him as food for the crows, which actually has symbolic meaning when you consider that "crows" is a slang term for the Night's Watch. By bringing the body inside, Ser Davos and company indicated that they still supported Jon's memory and were opposed to Ser Alliser. THAT'S what Thorne had a problem with. One thing I hated that probably seems very small is the line "I drink and I know things."
    However, the reason isn't just because it's a bad line. It's because it's a bad line, that got heavily promoted, and everyone lapped it up to the point that it is one of the most quoted lines of the entire show.
    "I drink and I know things" to me is a good example of how the dialogue in the show became very shallow - in early seasons, characters said things of substance, but by season 6, characters were just exclaiming things about themselves and expecting the audience to just accept it. It doesn't feel clever, it feels patronising to the audience. Tyrion is smart and is a drinker? How can we show this? Just state it directly! It's not witty, it's not clever, it's not really anything. It doesn't tell us anything we don't already know.
    However, the quote has become by FAR his most famous quote, despite the fact I believe it's one of his worst ever. For me, the fact that quote was so popular was justification for D&D that despite the fact they had started phoning it in, the general viewing public didn't give a shit because it was "Game of thrones". To me, that quote was a sign that the public would accept mediocrity, and from there, that allowed D&D to just get lazier and lazier.
    I think that line more than any other shows just bad the show got and how the general viewing public allowed and even celebrated that decline in quality.

He was exposed for only a very short time while attacking because he created that time by parrying off the other attackers and pushing them back, eventually forcing them all in front of him. A very well choreographed scene. Having everyone charge and swing/stab at the same time would probably have ended in them hurting each other too. Honestly if it was any other character that went into that situation I would probably side with you but Ned Stark is written to be too honourable to the point it is a huge failing of his and the reason for his death. It absolutely works with his character and his bannermen to fight “with honour” rather than all just tackling Arthur as soon as he was the last man standing against them.
      Although I’m sure it’s explained in the books I’m still not quite sure why he never takes issue with Roberts rebellion being founded on a lie, that’s the only point of his character that doesn’t fit but I assume the tv show just left that out and it is actualy explained in the books

      @@cynicalfox190 that's all true. It's never been made obvious in the books yet, because that depends on the big reveal about Jon's parents that we all know is coming, but Ned's willingness to keep the lie going is entirely about keeping his promise to Lyanna to protect Jon. It's his main cause of inner turmoil, because he has to pretend to have a bastard but also refuses to discuss Jon with anybody, and so he dishonours himself every single day to keep the lie going. His chapters in the books are amazing when you (think you) know about his secret, because just about everything he does as an adult is affected by his drive to protect children from harm. And anytime there's an issue about children being harmed, he thinks about either Jon, Lyanna, or Rhaegar. Very telling, without GRRM ever actually telling us. He's torn apart inside by the lie that started his best friend's monarchy, but he can't let anybody know, so protecting children becomes his primary motivation without ever being explicitly stated. It's a catch-22, he has to dishonour himself greatly in one way so that he can maintain a different, much more honourable code.

    Will never understand why the mountain killed the guy bragging about Cersei, why exactly is he loyal to her to the point that he goes out and finds someone slandering her to kill them? I get that he is bloodthirsty but it was just so random to have him be in Fleabottom of all places instead of with Cersei.

      The guy he killed was the father of one of the children (named Arthur) Qyburn was using as a 'little bird'. Qyburn was shown later talking to the kid, asking how Arthur's eye has healed, asking if his mother's jaw was any better, and how good it was that his father 'disappeared' and that 'no one will ever see him again'. It's heavily implied that Qyburn killed his abusive father using the Mountain to earn/keep loyalty of the kid.

      I think he's the guy who flashed Cersei during her walk of shame. Cersei is petty enough to order Qyburn to track the man down and send the Mountain after him. In the books she gave a girl to the Mountain because she performed puppet plays that Cersei found offending, so it's not out of character for her to have someone killed purely out of spite.

    They wasted the conversations between Tyrion, Missandei and Greyworm. They could have used it as opportunity to Tyrion to learn and try to understand the lives of people who were born and raised there to try and help Dany. They also could have used it to give more history. I remember that scene where he was trying to make them tell jokes felt so uncomfortable. He just convinced them to try and drink alcohol rather than using his ability to speak to almost anyone and use his wit.
    Just thinking of when Tyrion apologized to Sansa after her father was murdered and defended it by saying that even though he was considered a traitor, it didn't change the fact that it was her father. I don't understand how you have a witty, cunning, observant and empathetic character and just waste it. Some of the best scenes were just dialogue inbetween Cersei and Robert or Tyrion and the stark children.

      Yeah, to be honest, that was one of the only enjoyable scenes because there were real character motives on display. Also, that whole scene is a literary reference to Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar." They could have replaced "Night's Watch" with the word "Republic" and it would have been almost identical to Brutus and Cassius addressing the citizens after the murder and trying to convince the populace of their pure intent. It was, in my opinion, the only well-written scene post-season 4. And even then they had to depend on a better writer for inspiration!

    Like Ser Alliser admitting to killing Jon. That's something I at least can see him as a person admitting to. He never hid the fact that he hates Jon Snow's guts, and he's in-your-face honest. And he paid for it with his life in the end, so the writing checks out. People do dumb things sometimes, and there are consequences.
    Season 1 Ned admitting to knowing Cersei's secret and not having any assurances cost him, and you wouldn't bash the writing. It was a fault with his honorability and underestimating his foes.

    • @domskillet5744
      @domskillet5744 2 роки тому +5

      The issue is that it is based on a ridiculous premise. Alliser already let the wildlings through the wall. 50 wildlings south of the wall was nearly the end of the night's watch in "The Watchers on the Wall" and now there are thousands. Admitting to killing Jon in front of everyone increases the odds the wildlings find out and come back to kill everybody (which Alliser knows from experience there's no way to stop). It literally makes no sense to kill Jon in the first place after letting the wildlings through, and admitting it only increases the stupidity from there
