Billy Preston's famous Outa Space transcribed! Hope you get some funky clav riffs out of it, cuz thats the main point of the video anyway. Billy Preston was just riffing and calling out chord names when the track was recorded so, its not like he was playing something that was meticulously worked out before hand. Check out my channel for more tutorials for Old school and New school funk/Soul/RnB and subscribe if you like what you hear!
Thats amazing. I wish I lived in an era where I could jam out to radio hits and feel 110% great about doing so. music today can be catchy, but it just doesnt satisfy the soul the same way music used to.
I wrote with Billy Preston and man you are Awesome !!!
I wrote with Billy Preston too
The 1st time I ever heard a D7 Clavinet back in 71. Just the funkiest song ever, and nothing in my entire library opens the way this song does. Kudos to BP. Thanks for the tutorial.
El inicio del Electro Funk / Steve W. (desligado del Funk Clásico).
El Superstición de Steve W. con el maestro de la electrónica M. Cecil y el Sintetizador T.O.N.T.O le dio más fuerza al genero.
Best use of a Korg SV1 I've ever seen.
What I was wondering...thanks!
One of the best covers I've ever heard
this is a great rendition! thank you for taking the time to put this out on youtube! it's people like you that make the world a better place bro! \ m /
This tune defines the genius of BP. I am lucky to be old enough to hear it during heavy airplay.
I got goosebumps. Everything about it- Killer song, killer piano skills bro!!!!!
Somewhere Billy's smilin'!
AWESOME!
You kick ass.
0hypershock Thanks dawg glad you like it :)
I can’t even imagine having both the ear snd the skills to figure out how to play this. Amazing.
billy preston and jimmy smith, twoofthe greatst organist i've ever had the pleasure of watching. i'm so envious , i admire that talent.
Legit. Props pops, be cool fool, get down James Brown I be diggin on this!
that Billy was so creative to come up with so many cool songs in the 70s......GREAT COVER!
VERY NICE! It's hard to break down a tune like this. You did a super good job of transcribing. Keep playing!!
That's a mighty funky groove you got there!
This is smoking. Hey can you do a clav version of The Commodores song Machine gun for us?
Great ...thanks for showing this WOW... God continue to bless you...
Spectaclar. Great stuff. Thanks, for breaking down this soul-drenched, and immortal, jam.
Keep at it man....sounds GOOD !
You picked a good tune to learn...Billy was a GREAT KEYBOARD player!
Oh he was a legend!!!! Thanks dood!!
Bravo... made my day watching you play this...
VERY good tutorial !
I really enjoyed it when you said @ 8:25 "...just make sure that... when you are not playing something with your right hand, play something with your left hand" or something to that effect. When I was learning some Funk keyboard stuff, that's what I stumbled upon. But to hear a keyboard player say it gets the student up and running immediately, if the student doesn't get too hung up on what specific individual notes to play and when.
Since I'm a self taught keyboardist who can't read music, this is my way of learning new stuff. Thanks!
Original funk! Done perfectly!
RIP Billy!!! That dudes an inspiration to all funkstranaughts.
yeah it depends what you are looking for. If you like weighted keys then the SV-1 is better. I like the weighted action on the SV-1 better than the weighted action of the nord. But I realized after I bought the SV-1 that I wanted nonweighted keys so I could play the organ/clav sounds as they were meant to be played haha
I am very glad I found your channel and this video especially. Very challenging for me to learn to play this. I will probably have to watch thousands of times to get anywhere close to sounding decent. Thanks for making this, it sounds amazing!!!
I don't know what's more impressive, the tutorial or the fact that you did this on weighted keys!
Which pickup register is this on? I am trying to learn on this on a Crumar Mojo and figure out the settings.
Thank you!! Its an SV-!, and the wah is onboard (using a volume pedal to control it). Its awesome in every way except that the Nord has better piano and a slightly cleaner and better E Piano sound (and better B3, but noone makes a good B3 so whatever haha). SV-1 kills the nord in other areas though.
Sweeeeet another true R&B fan. glad to have you on board. Thanks for the suggestion - I'll try to show both hands separately in the future!
Thanks for making this my man, definitely want to learn this soon!! Appreciate the tutorial!
best instrumental space groove song
Awesome lesson! love all the classic R&B funk tutorials you do. One suggestion for something like this would be to play the right and left hand parts separately, so we can hear the counter point rhythms.
Incredibly Awesome!
Funkaliscious!!!!!!! Amazing.
Sick....!
KILLER JOB !!!!!
This is a great tutorial !
Thanks ! Great job ! Love It
If that ain't ticklin keys i don't know what is......BRAVO..
Holy shit - you are a hero
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👨🏾🦱Slapa my hand blacka soul man!!!
Nice work! After this semester I'll get busy learning it and look for Tippitina in your arsenal as well. You really did a great job - not just the transcription but the tutoring. Many thanks.
Thank you! glad you liked it. Subscribe for updates!
Just one question though:
how did you know I was going to do tipitina?!?
Brilliant!
AMAZING!!!
great job with a great song
But where is the sheet music ! Sign. B FUDLED
Tight!
Just spent a couple of weeks having to go down to 50% speed, but I think I’ve got it. Pretty addictive when you get there isn’t it? Thanks so much
He's not biting he transcribed this ideas and motifs from Billy Preston. EVERYONE whose any good at one point transcribe a solo or idea from someone because they think it sounds nice, and theres no point in reinvinting the wheel
That is the sound to a tee!
@Don Smith.....Yes and No...yes he has the music transcription down to a t...and no he does not have the Clavinet part down even close.....he aint got a Clav it aint his fault....when you have played a clav ya Know the difference!!!.
Yeah, the simulation sounds good until you hear the real thing, and then you go, “Oh, so that’s why the pros still want a real Clavinet!”
Nice job, man!
Genio!!!!!!!!!!!! Saludos desde Argentina.
Gracias!!!!
Thanks a ton for the comment!
Wow! Thanks for the compliment man!
YOur tutorials are outstanding. I like that you take the harder keyboard material and break it all down into understandable riffs. There's plenty of Journey tutorials out there youtube, coldplay, Beatles stuff ---all easy, intermediate level. But u like to do tutorials on the challenging stuff. There are 2 keyboard tunes I would like u to tutorial if u have the time -- short, bluesy piano intro to "Can't Get Next To You" by the Temps. Note-for-note organ solo for Green-eyed Lady by Sugarloaf!
nice job!
yeah, one reason i went with the SV-1 is I also have another keyboard that has non-weighted keys that I use for organ and synth type sounds. The Nord seemed like it had some cool B-3 type sounds on it, better than the SV-1, for sure.
thanks man! yeah it works for now (until I can get a nord!)
magic fingers!!! You rock!!!!!!!
Yup, The axiom broke on me, so i refurbished it and sold it. and yeah, I couldnt be happier with the SV1. Its awesome.
Solid!
Thank you.
Wow!
GREAT
Haha thank you!!! Glad you liked it!
yeah, I looked at the Nord at the time I bought the SV-1 It was the action of the SV-1 that sold me, but the Nord has a lot of cool stuff that the SV-1 does not have, for sure.
feel the funk ya !
Epic! I aspire to your level, sir! :)
Agreed!
you're amazing !
Thank you! Subscribe if you dig!
Bravo, Mr Nimble Fingers. How about "Space circus" by Return to Forever?
loved the song, but always wondered what was guitar and what was keyboard. thanks.
Thanks! It is :)
Thanks for watching! No need to read music dees dayz anywayz
What type of keyboard is that?
OMG This is incredible. I'm just starting to work on it but I know that I will have a difficult time during some parts. Is it possible for you to somehow have the notes available as well. I dont know how you would do it, but it would make the process of learning it much easier. Regardless, this is amazing . You are a phenomenal keyboardist! What is the keyboard you are playing?
Enjoy learning from your video
Hey there. GREAT job on this. The link to purchase a transcript is broken. Is it still available? Would be a huge help to learning. Thanks. Really enjoy your tutorials.
Wicked Left hand man...
