  • Trailblazer (Envoy, Bravada) idling issue, even worse when turning on the AC, the car would just completely shut off. Would go below 500 RPM.
    Simple solution, clean the throttle body, connected to the electronic idling motor.
    This is a 2004 Trailblazer with the 4.2 inline 6 cylinder engine in it, but this issue is common with the whole generation, 2002-2009 (1st generation Trailblazer, and other vehicles with the same engine/throttle body/electronic idling motor).
    Simply...
    First disconnect the positive battery terminal connector screw and separate it from the battery. (important step)
    Remove the metal strap holding the intake hose to the throttle body and remove 2 screws holding down the plastic intake box.
    You will then see the throttle body connected to the electronic idle motor (one piece).
    Next remove the harness connected to the top of the throttle body/idle motor. Then remove the 4 screws holding the throttle body/idle motor in place. The throttle body/idle motor then will be completely removed. Clean the inside of the throttle body with carb/throttle body cleaner, a few bucks at your local auto store or even walmart. Clean it thoroughly, blow through the small hole on upper side as well, has a tube coming out one side. Spray it a bunch till you see no grease/oil/gunk in it and wipe it down good.
    Next replace all the parts that were removed. Remember to reconnect the harness connector going to the throttle body/idle motor.
    DO NOT start the car yet.
    Next you have to reset the PCM (powertrain control module), you do this be still keeping the positive battery terminal disconnected and open the fuse box and remove 2 specific fuses that go to the PCM. For the I6 (inline 6 cylinder engine) remove fuse 10 and 28 as shown in the video. With the battery and 2 fuses disconnected wait a few minutes then reconnect the battery as well as the 2 fuses.
    Make sure ass the connector and hoses that you disconnected are put back together then start the vehicle up.
    In some cases the vehicle may still act weird a little but sometimes it may take a few drives, even days, to have the electronic idle motor to reset itself. Once it does the car will be running smoothly, even with the A/C on.
    Thanks for watching, like the video if you wish and subscribe to my channel, I post videos every now and then of common problems with vehicles that tend to occur with many different people/vehicles. Go watch my other videos as well.....Thanks!!

    My man! 2006 Trailblazer was sputtering at 400 rpms and dying soon after. This 20 minute job solved that and it purrs at 6 - 700. Thank you so so much, your video helped my family immensely. Thank you, thank you! I hope you have all the best in life delivered to you and yours.

    Man, this video is great!! I have a 2004 GMC ENVOY that had all those symptoms. I cleaned the throttle body and it now runs perfectly. I can't believe something as simple as that would have a huge impact on the engine's performance.
    Thank you a lot!

    Hallelujah!!! I travelled 5 hours from home in my 04 trailblazer when my heater started bogging down my engine at idle. Eventually the car shut off and would not restart. After a $100 tow and $300 garage fee all they could tell me was that fuse #28 was blown and upon replacing it they were able to start the engine. I drove 5 hours home and scheduled a service appointment at the dealership... meanwhile I do my research, came across your video. And cleaned my throttle body. I too was surprised that something so small and minor hindered the engines performance so much.. Thank you!

    Very important on a throttle body system that you actually use throttle body cleaner not regular carb cleaner unless it actually says safe for throttle body on the can.

  • @karguy1720

    The throttle body does not need to be removed. Use throttle body cleaner ONLY and clean the bore and throttle plate in-place.

    AWESOME DUDE!!! Great video--I did exactly as you said and fixed my idle problem. 2002 GMC Envoy. It wouldn't idle with the air conditioner on and kept choking down. That throttle body was filthy. Cleaned it with some carb. cleaner and now it works great. Thank you for posting this video! It was exactly what I needed to fix the idle. I couldn't believe it was the throttle body that was the culprit. Thank you. I didn't even disconnect the battery--just pulled the fuses and reinstalled them. God bless you and your family. This did help fix my issue on 2005 trailblazer (148,000 miles). I used throttle body cleaner (about $5 at local parts store) and saved a ton of money I would have spent at a mechanic. One thing I didn't understand though - if I disconnect the battery, why do I need to pull fuses too? Fuses don't do anything if the battery is disconnected.

    • @aaronmoldovan4090
      @aaronmoldovan4090  8 років тому +1

      The reason I say disconnect the battery and fuses out as well if to just double check myself and if you have any codes that were previously turning on the check engine light, disconnecting the battery will reset the check engine light. Instead of having to use an OBD II reader or going to an auto store to have them do it. It doesn't hurt to disconnect it.

      Taking the fuses out for the pcm will force the pcm to reset so it can relearn with the cleaned throttle body…if u don’t do that and the throttle body was really bad..removing the carbon build up will cause the throttle body flaps to sit in a different mark then before and could cause a no start issue or cause it to run like crap….always a good idea to reset the pcm after messing with something like the throttle body

    I just did what the video said, and HELL YA' the truck is running much better! There was alot of gunk/junk in that throttle position valve. Made a world of difference!!! Recent repairs were: Belt, Map Sensor, Thermostat,Plugs, regular maintenance of course. But once I cleaned this this, the truck ran smoothHHH. Very little variation on RPM between 6-700 rpm's. Happy Days!!!

Had some trouble with cheap vacuum hose under the intake, crumbled in three places, had to rig it with new tiny rubber hoses and gorilla glue...minor setback, for a major successful overall result....New battery, New alternator, New idler pulley, new tensioner...$340, clean throttle body...priceless.

    Yup the only way to properly clean the TB is to remove it.
    This can also cause dim headlights and no AC because of slow idle.

I did not know about pulling the fuses to relearn part though. Thanks for that! One thing I will say is to avoid disconnecting the battery at all costs on these things though. In your description you said take off positive terminal off battery. But in the video you said positive and switched it to negative. Its negative right? I was told always take negative off first when disconnecting battery. The when installing positive first then negative. Although with the trailblazer and envoy. You dont want to take battery off because the computer doesnt hold its memory like other vehicles.

I've cleaned the throttle body changed the filter and it improved a bit but it still hesitates and sputters and rides extremly BAD, service engine soon light flashes as well. Any more novice suggestions or should I just bite the bullet and take it to the shop?

    So... Question. I have an 07 envoy. Major problems with it. Can a dirty throttle body cause my battery to die while idling? My car shakes at stop lights or in park. Ive had it replaced just to still have problems again. Whenever it rains a lot-- my low power engine light goes on. Due to a hole in the hood and water dripping down there. GM even recalled about this and no solution!

    • @aaronmoldovan4090
      @aaronmoldovan4090  3 роки тому

      Hello Sara Bee,
      Thanks for the question.
      It doesn’t seem likely that idling would cause your battery to die.
      But the shaking could be your throttle body, try cleaning it like my video and see what happens next. Let me know if this helps

    since all these modern cars use sensors and solenoids all over is it a good idea to pull that pcm fuse and negative battery terminal everytime you do ANYTHING under the hood even if your just unplugging things to check/get to other parts? or is it simply just for re-learning or updating codes???

      For my 2004 Bravada, I had multiple issues and have worked through them. I look at it like I'm doing the work myself so saving money and the parts replaced are old. Replaced fuel filter, put in spec ac delco plugs. I had a miss under load and flashing cel that would go off. Original coil packs with 170k miles replaced with ones from AutoZone. I'm sure one or two were not functioning properly, but replaced them all. I don't like replacing one at a time, unless that is all you can afford or u have a used one lying around. The old ones are most likely not working to spec, even if not fully failing. And for sure the others will fail and u end up taking off the air box every few months. Just my opinion.
      Cleaned throttle body and new gasket. Improvement at each step. Vehicle running better than when I got it three years ago.
      But still slight stutter at idle. No cel on. Will try cam sensor next.

    You don't have to disconnect the battery if you pull the two fuses. That's the purpose of pulling the fuses... so you don't have to disconnect the battery and risk damaging the instrument panel gauges or resetting the clock.

    • @aaronmoldovan4090
      @aaronmoldovan4090  8 років тому +2

      The reason I say disconnect the battery and fuses out as well if to just double check myself and if you have any codes that were previously turning on the check engine light, disconnecting the battery will reset the check engine light. Instead of having to use an OBD II reader or going to an auto store to have them do it. It doesn't hurt to disconnect it.
      oh wow! I hope this fixes the issue. Let me know here:)

    It doesnt matter disconecting either pos or neg terminal right? Also after i cleaned TB. It idles at 1000 for a minute then slowly very slowly works it way to 600. Let it idle for few minutes then shutoff. Minute later start it up and repeats same process of starting at 1000 and slowly down to 600. Maybe it will take some time for pcm to relearn. Its done on a 2007 ascender/trailblazer

      It should "kill" all the codes but there are reasons to do so to protect the electrical circuits. I remember getting information years ago when I did it and it said to do so. Have a great day, God bless you and your family!!!

      when you disconnect the battery and then reconnect, your HVAC actuator motors will cycle through their settings and it has been known to break them. by only taking out the fuses you are avoiding the motors having to relearn and cycle their positions.

    Would cutting off AC hose stop car from stalling and shutting off? I bought N 03 Tblazer AC hose is torn or cut off disconnected. I heard noise lastnight sounded like sumthin broke or was hitting sumthin idk sound bc I got scared howeva touched gas it made noise louder I said a prayer and noise stopped I went 2 my sis had bro in law test drive n chk all out no probs found. I swore noise was if was my motors lifter or sumthin idk exact noise but it was loud and seemed like Tblazer didnt want to go since I touched gas hrd noise get louder . It hppnd arnd 55mph after been on northway for a cpl times yesterday was first time I hrd that noise. But b4 that I got shaking and bucking no chk engine light is on and last night along with shaking and bucking was that loud noise as if a part was catching onto anotha part or as if was an heavy part making a noise. What wld make shaking n bucking then now a loud noise which each time it does shaking n bucking it's like a hesitation not wanting to still go but usually touch gas pedal n it stops the bucking n shaking actions so I try touch gas lastnight and it made the noise even louder. Now this suv drives really nice without issue being presented and issue presents only once in awhile yes usually per each trip out but it went frm hppng once to a few times the nxt day thn now theres times prob dont hppn until I've driven so many miles. I did notice when shake began was wen I tk cruise control off or try hold gas steady at 1 speed. But then now seems not to occur going steady if issue hadn't yet that day presented its self 4 shake n bucking actions . Idk I'm all confused as 2 y issue only comes once in awhile, why now seems of when it comes on it was worser lastnight bc came with an loud noise. I frkd out scared so no I cant recall wat exactly the noise sounded like but I do know it was loud and touch gas which normally straightend out my probs of shaking n bucking it hadnt lastnight fixed issue instd noise got louder. After noise hppnd I drove frm location on rd it hppnd to my sis place which was prolly 15 give or take miles while idling I noticed it 2 sound dffrnt I told my bro in law chk under hood I swore noise was frm under my hood and he said that the noise while idling was my motor lifter n its normal 2 hear it idk if hes lyin or guessing but I swore that noise was what hppnd where touched gas n it got louder thn all sudden after I prayed I was thn able get bk up to 55 like nothing and heard no noises again. Now is there a way 4 an motor lifter 2 make noises while driving and it cause noise get louder touching gas pedal but then stops noises and SUV bk 2 normal but then afta a bit idling afta hearing noise the lifter make sound while idling? Shut down engine turned bk on and that noise was eitha not there or was way quieted down. Wat wld be wrong if was my motor lifter that caused that loud sound and thn straightened bk out? Like if was bad I do no cld put sum rod threw an engine but this noise was like while climbing a small but bit steep hill now on northway it went fine and was no actions or sounds until I was off northway for miles I drove after I got off northway I hrd nada but thn that time the shake n noise scared crap out of me touched gas hrd it louder. What does my prob sound like it is? For a wk shake n bucked touch gas issue stopped wen picking up speed then lastnight came that loud noise with shake idk if was bucking 2 but touch gas didnt fix prob of shaking like normally it was doing. I have driven Tblazer for many miles maybe 1000 by now within a wk n that's see if issue wld stop but lastnight afta that noise hppnd it ran fine agn except idling 1 time hrd noise n bro in law said was motor lifter so sound went away n nada probs . Ok I've noticed they hkdup stereo with dvd player n otha stuff in it so dvd can play while driving so that's wrong then I notice they installed an remote starter 4 keypads n if I start auto with keypad seemz as tho shake n bucking is less I start it with keys seems issues are more often idk if how I start engins even has anything do with shake n bucking or the stereo hkdup wrong but I say wrong bc dvd not suppsd play while driving guy said his buddy did it so the kids cld watch DVDs while suv was being driven n also ac hose been torn or cut off. I'm suspicious is it that I just need an tune up but if so wat wS that loud noise I heard which touch gas it got louder thn it straightened up like nada hppnd yes I believe my prayer to God straighten it up but also maybe it wld straightened up later thn it had idk. Pls helpme. Only myselfies is main driver so actions hppn once in awhile not constant is y wen ppl try it out they not exprnc what I hear n feel bc wateva which I not figrd out wateva it is 2 make this stuff hppn once in awhile but once wateva must hppn 2 cause issues to occur gets 2 kicking in 2 cause probs is when they occur. I know tranny dont slip shifts normal but once I shift 2 or 3 times I noticed sum times bc held gas steady the shake n buck occurs I swore sounds like tranny tryn shift down or motor sound wen bucking occurs but I'm told noise was wheel bearings thn got thm chkd I'm told they old but tires dont move 4 the test so idk wats up yes I've hrd a clunk or scrape noise like in reverse I swore the rattle n clunk noise was oil pan touched a bump but 1st night I bought this SUV I heard an clunk or bash sound it didn't present its self agn thn got brk pads chngd which were really down 2 metal yesterday they were chngd so I figrd clunk came frm thm till lastnight wen I hrd loud noise n acted like sumthin was hitting sumthin or wateva n held me bk where touch gas was louder so I kept pedal steady 2 climb hill thn eventually coasted n touched gas after praying n drove fine. Cld tune up needed make loud noises also I got gas frm a dffrnt store . So b4 noise hppnd the dffrnc that occured ystrday frm my normal drive habits was I tk northway no probs , so higher speeds no probs, brk pads got chngd, used dffrnt store gas. I do think buck n shake means get tune up but that noise I need no if was motor lifter wat wld cause noise thn all sudden SUV bk 2 normal driving? cld throttle body dirty or sumthin due with gas or tune up needed cause a loud noise with the shaking n bucking ? If is motor lifter cld water in gas or wat cld make that thump or all sudden make noise? I was told a bad lifter or sumthin wrong with a motor lifter wld make noise constantly not come 1 time n disappear.

    Hi I have a problem with my 2005 trailblazer, when ever I go up an incline I get a problem where i get about 3000 to 4000 RPMs but I only do about 20 -30 MPH and I can't get any higher than that.

      Hello. That sounds more like a transmission or could be the computerized throttle. Try cleaning it or see if you're getting any codes

      Alright, how would I get the codes and what would I be cleaning?

      +theadog1011 go to a local autozone and they will check it for free with their OBD 2 scanner. And what I cleaned in the video, I explained which piece.

    great video! i did the same thing except use throttle body cleaner same thing in a can. It just doesn't damage the sensors if they get sprayed on, and its lets corrosive
