I'd drop some serious coin if EA would re-release this game and NFS High Stakes. Keep everything exactly the same (music, cars, etc) just update the graphics.

Or just create the game from scratch from next-gen game engines like Unity or Unreal (I know that Unity cars are possible, but I don't know about Unreal). Edit: Cars in Unreal Engine 4 can be created.
Back then I had only a few games and because of the lack of choice, I played several of the tracks in this game over and over again, I had most of the tracks totally memorized. It helped that the European tracks were beautiful. I can't imagine doing that for any game now.

Played this since I was a little kid, spent so much time fixing up the used cars and farming cash, admiring the cars.... and now I have a 944 Turbo. Sent chills down my spine when I launched the game and saw my ingame 944T.
It was a amazing game with stunning graphics and great physics (i could really feel the weight of the car) at that time. But I guess what I love most was the atmosphere of the way the tracks blended to the surrounding nature. So relaxing!

Oh yeah, out-of-the-box, you could play this game in 1280x1024 resolution if your PC supported it, which was like high definition back in my childhood lol It wouldn't be until the Xbox 360 when we'd start seeing high definition on consoles, like 5 years after this game was released. I play both, but when it comes to old multi-platform games, especially in the late 90's-mid 00's, PC gaming was far more advanced. Not to mention, PC gamers had 1600x1200 resolution available, which isn't too different pixel-count-wise from modern 1080p. My old Xbox and PS2 systems rarely offered any HD (720p+) games, with 480p provided at best (yes, there were a few exceptions like GT4). Back on-topic, I still think this game looks great today, especially in high-resolution. Thanks for sharing!
I remember playing this game with a keyboard and couldn't imagine it being any better. Just reloaded it on my computer yesterday and I'm using a Logitech Momo gaming wheel and it's on an entire different level!

13 years ago I used up all my saved money to buy this game.. still 13 years later this is my favorite NFS ever.. Car handling/ damage and AI, awesome tracks and a lot of cars.. NFS team hit the peak with this version and been on the down side, ever since..

Good driving, it was nice to behold this game again. Baller soundtrack. I played NFS Hot Pursuit and High Stakes the most, but I gotta admit, this might just be the best NFS they've ever churned out. The others, of course, have much more car variety, but this one accomplished something special in the series. Wish they'd make a sequel to this or, rather, a spiritual successor. Ferrari, maybe Mercedes. But not while they cater to kids and casuals. They'd make a sensationalist travesty of it.
"Schwarzwald" really got me curious as I've driven there many times IRL, but even the trees are wrong here, let alone the fairy tale buildings. With it's great roads the area should be rediscovered by racing games some time.
This was a real next-gen game if you compare it with other NFS games before. You have a 3D-cockpit which is lightening if it's in the sun. It has realistic driving physics. It looks really beautiful. The forest background is not worse than GT5 ^^ Yesterday I put NFS Shift, Undercover and Underground 2 (which I used to like very much) but those are disgusting. Nice cars, nice tracks, totally ugly driving physics, even Underground 2.
Best racing game ever. All stock multiplayer lobbies with no collision. Played for hours. If you got a good group of fair players, then you could turn on collision
