Hey Benji! Just wanted to start off by saying my girlfriend and I really love watching your grocery vlogs!
I currently work at Costco and they told me a bunch of interesting things about Costco that I thought would be cool to share.
1. They said that they only have a maximum markup of 15% on all of their products. So this means that some things they probably do sell for a loss to get more people in the door. And they make most of their money from their membership fees.
2. They also said that they do change around the positions of the foods all the time that is why they don’t have aisle signs. So that way people have to walk around more and hopefully get more things that they typically wouldn’t see.
3. The aisle cappers, the food at the front of the aisle, is usually put there when that company pays Costco to advertise their product more. So it would increase their sales since more people would see it walking down the main aisle.
4. A lot of the Kirkland brand products are made by another company usually sitting right next to the Kirkland brand. An example of this is the Kirkland water is manufactured by Poland Springs, and the Kirkland tuna is made by Bumblebee. And they usually sell the Kirkland brand at a much lower price than these name brands.
I know that this was a lot but when I learned about this it was really awesome and cool to learn about so I thought I would just share this with you and everyone in the comments! Thanks!
as a former costco employee, that is very true!
Thank you for this information. I had no idea about Kirkland’s positioning in Costco. This was a great read.
Benji’s beef with costco “kewpie” cracks me up 🤣
I bought one based on his recommendations (before he started warning us) and it was disappointing lol. Hellman’s for the win!
Wait, what’s the issue with Costco kewpie?
@@sleeterfarm it’s not the same as authentic kewpie from japan
The littles are so well behaved and adorable. When shopping, I try to time it just when the parents/grandparents will be picking up their kids from school. The lines are much shorter. One way we use spinach is topping it over guacamole toast or in ramen. The kids prefer it that way than in salads. Great idea to air dry it and will definitely be doing that. Thank you!
Leah and Bella are so cute 🥰
Always
I love how Benji always buys groceries with his wife and kids in mind.. thank you for loving and taking such good care of your family. The cooking is a plus plus plus too❤
When I buy a bulk amount of mushrooms, spinach or bell peppers. I like to chop and saute them and place in containers to make and use for omelets, egg bites or even for japchae. It helps give me some extra time when I'm in a pinch!
I too shop various locations, Sams Club, Costco, Meijer’s, Kroger’s, Aldi’s and Trader Joe’s.
Love that!
I am a cake artist, and I make a weekly trip to costco just for butter, eggs, sugar, and flour. It's a must for me!!
Loving your vids Benji, nice to see you share your passion for food🙂
Cutest thing ever: Leah reminding Benji about what to buy. ❤
i love these costco videos!!! i tried the rao's sauce for the first time this year and holy cow it's a game changer!!!
Aldi has the best prices nowadays.
Kudo Benji for shopping with the two littles. You seem to do so well with them. Bella & Leah crack me up with the samples & food that keeps them busy!
Left over spinach makes a fabulous spinach/chicken curry, I put it all in the slow cooker and make my own spice blend.
You should go to business Costco and buy their uncooked frozen mini croissants. It tastes WAY better when you bake it at home.
Liya and Bella matching so cute jackets!!!!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
bella and leah shopping ! so exciting ! 😄
Have you explored any Grocery Outlets? They are hit or miss but the deals are great!
Nothing related to the food but getting a little glimpse of the girls little faces here and there in the shot was so sweet ❤
Benji is so smart when it comes down to shopping at affordable stores for everyday items.
I usually shop at winco because it’s very affordable and I only go to Costco for when I need toilet paper, napkins, waters, burrito flour tortillas, mozzarella cheese and snacks lol
Love your Costco videos!! We freeze our spinach to add to smoothies/ juicing.. it works great especially if we have extra and don’t want it to waste.
Thank you again for sharing your Costco shopping process!! Hope you and your family have a fantastic week!!
Love all your videos Benji! Thanks for all the content and your hard work shows 😊
Costco and Aldi
Do you need to get permission to film in Costco? I saw a lady being asked to stop last week, maybe she didn't have permission.
Benji can you do a video at Aldi. Do they really have good organic options
There are no Aldi in WA state
Benji freeze your spinach for smoothies and you’ll never waste it
Benji, I know you know this but you can freeze vegetables such as spinach saves waste. The littles so well behaved gorgeous girlies
Leah an bella so adorable, u taught your girls really good ,they both amazing .good Dad ,🤗
Costco for paper products, meat, and pantry snacks.
Trader Joe’s for produce because it’s cheaper and also seems to last longer.
We've been buying the big slab of ribeye at Costco and slice it into steaks ourselves and freeze them. Its a bit of work but saves soo much money! They also have new york slabs too😊
I shop at a variety of stores. Depending on what I need. I know what store offers the best deals on the things I buy regularly.
I'm also a Farmer's Market vendor. So I like to support the farmers. The produce is always so much better. But at least double the price of a normal grocery store. So for me, it's also about getting to know the farmers. Because honestly...not everyone grows their own produce at the Farmer's Markets.
If I'm trying to keep prices down...I shop at my local Mexican Market for produce. It's always the least expensive. But then again...I live in a border state. The produce is so fresh and tastes amazing! I also shop at a local Meat Market. The cost is slightly higherm but the quality is much better. And mostly organic.
Rao’s is owned by Campbells now. They bought them last year. So beware. Not that Campbell isn’t good. But they may change the recipe. They said they wouldn’t, but you never know with large corporations. They could in the future.
Love the girls getting chicken bakes. They are so cute ❤ i work at Costco in Az , 😊
Would love to see you do a shopping trip to Aldi. Do they have them in your area? They have great prices because they use a different model than other groceries (similar to Trader Joe's)-small stores, shorter hours, limited number of products. But they have specials each week "Aldi Finds". They carry some great seasonal products, always have interesting cheeses, frozen foods. They're the place to go if you are making a charcuterie board.
they don’t have an Aldi location in Washington
If you cook spinach that big bag shrinks down tremendously. Then you can make a Japanese salad with sesame or serve with a thai peanut sauce.
Costco used to sell almond croissants, now I make an almond cream with almond flour and spread on split croissants, Google a recipe, you also dip split croissants in sugar syrup. Costco croissants are now all butter.
Nuts good deal.
Bonn Mason jam.
Innkeepers apple strudel bread in bread isle.
Walnut cranberry sourdough with some rye and whole wheat in bakery. About $9 but very good and there are copycat recipes online. Copycat recipes for the apple strudel bread, too.
Costco has top tier gas with 5x the detergent required by law.
Sams club has better pricing for veggies i find but pnly costco has tofu organic!
Costco, Jewel-Osco (Chicagoland’s grocery chain part of Albertson’s), Meijer, Target, Aldi, Strack & Van Til. Costco is a God send for events like family parties, or household items in bulk (the less traveling, the better). The closest Trader Joe’s is in Orland Park (in Illinois, outside of Chicago).
I’ve heard Raos has changed something in their ingredients, and it isn’t as clean and healthy as it used to be. (Someone else I watch now refuses to buy it) 🤷♀️
Do you guys still regrow produce or do that compost thing Benji was into a few years back when Julianna was younger?
that kewpie dressing is really good with the green goddess salad also sold at costco. I'll use that instead of the dressing that comes with the salad.
Bella💕💕💕
Groceries shopping is my favorite time too 😂
WINCO has great prices!
You said WEEKLY visit and my soul cried for you 🤣😩
Im so proud of you for buying spices in bulk it's def cheaper! Esp if u just want to try some.🎉bulk for the win! Even grains and beans
I was telling you while you were looking for the Rao's, it's on the end cap cause it's on sale! LOL
we get all our meat from Restaurant depot, in bulk..I make packets and freeze it all. Lasts us about 2 months and costs $350
Paper towel, water, some veggies and fruits, rice and oil definitely from Sams Club
Then my regular groceries from Walmart and HEB (I live in Houston)
The kewpie dressing I use on noodles adding a bit of peanut butter.
I'm probably the only one that doesn't like Raos or Costco roasted chicken.
Thanks for your shopping tips
Me too i shop 5 different stores for different things but ever since ive found the dent store I get most of my fresh veggies from their they have organic too. At first I felt weird but it's the best place for produce. So affordable! And i like to try out brands and different products if i like it i get it at the reg store!
Benji, you can freeze your spinach too so you don’t have to toss it. Especially if you’re using it for smoothies 😊
Hi Kuya Benjie. I don’t live in the USA and we dont have Costco here in the PH. But I really love watching your grocery vlog. You should do a grocery vlog with ate Judy soon ❤️
Aldi’s!
You know how theres soo many different furikakes at the japanese market? Please educate us on your favs because its always so hard for me to choose one! 😂
Though grocery shopping is nice to do and nice to see, try something different Benji.😊 Love to see your cooking videos and may be podcasts with judy
I too feel that Benji should try vlogging other content, like doing podcasts with Judy. I think the views will spike considerably. Would love to hear how Benji and Judy keep their relationship going strong.
Def depends what u buy where. Milk and avocados on sale at Costco aldi for sliced cheese and apple juice and breads even sourdough! Don't sleep on their balsamic glaze i like better than traders! On avocado toast and salad!
Since things are so expensive now I shop for meats and grains first. I usually go to Aldi and get marinaded meats and pack the freezer with it. Then I get other staples. I’m debating on whether or not Costco is worth it if you’re single.
Oh man, those lines are no fun, but that’s Costco!
Benji, The RAO’s marinara, you pronounce differently than we do back in Ohio, We say RAO’s - RAY- O’s. Not sure which is correct? 🤔
I’ll call it that too sometimes lol thanks.
I am curious 👀 have you ever been to a Bjs?
I wish Costco here in Japan carries more organic items. Organic here in Japan is unreasonably expensive. Like I can't.😩
U should watch vlog farms wife homestead she is in NZ lady may give U tips as she feeds alot of kids...
She also cuts up her onion and freezes them I think...they need to be in a dry air dark place maybe in a place try with paper towel under them same with potatoes...spinach why don't you wash dry it no water freezer with no air in bag it with keep just like herbs aswell...just cut them up...😮😮😮
I shop Publix for their BOGO items then Aldi last Walmart (which I don’t like) something’s are less expensive there. I buy all of our meat from my local grocery they have an on-site butcher.
Costco is about the only way we afford groceries as a family of 5. Azure standard too is our go to
Do you have any credit card game you go with? For travel, food, grocery, gas, etc? Btw what credit card do you use for costco!
I use my SW Airlines Visa at Costco. Purchase the Executive membership also gets paid for from purchased.
I still have a stack of white Costco wash clothes, too many. Costco makes me buy too much.
💜
I'd love to see you and the family do a blind taste testing of Costco vs Asian Kewpie Mayo. Is it really different or could it be a bias?
there is a difference between Costco Kewpie and the Kewpie you buy at the asian/japanese supermarket
2:11 I can save my spinach by putting in the fridge instead of Tupperware Store it in a GLASS bowl with a tight lid.
I already saved money on the gas lol (from socal )😅 Costco >>>
Definitely
With how much you shop at Costco, I hope you have Costco stocks. Bought at $500, now at $700. Thanks for promoting Costco. 😅
Do you have sams club i would like youre intake there?! 😮
Sam's Club left Washington State.
Bella's cheeks close up soooo cute!!❤☺🤩
food is soo expensive than now eating out. which is ridanconlous. I mean my girls don't eat much, so which is why we dont need alot. but the supermarket. We got 15 hens and 2 roosters, free range and they have a huge cooop, but runs our land. i have a garden , but my chickens just discovered it today. attacked my tomatoes....i am about to make some homemade pastas. I have been made homemade pizzas. sooooo good. but my autistic kid doesnt want to even if she helps make them. atleast im just exposing them.
Lol! You fell into the sample trap! You are such an impulse shopper! Ack! You will learn with experience!! Read the labels too and learn about nutrition
Costco & TJ are my family’s favorite grocery stores, best price in my opinion for my big family of 6 & my brothers family of 5😊♥️🫰
