That file at 11:20 I have seen alot of Guitar Builders Use them to hog out the bulk of the Wood on a Neck Build, "Roughing in the Neck". That one is older than any one I have seen. Very Nice.
That's what I use my Shinto rasp for. The coarse side for rough shaping, then the fine side followed by rasps, files, and sandpaper. Shaping necks is my favorite part of guitar building
11:14 the first tool is a Shinto Rasp and the second is a Cowles rug or carpet stretcher. The third item IS a scale, but you're missing the trays for it. I really like the scorp! Finding them at a decent price isnt easy. Ive usually found them for close to 175 all day long.
It all looks cool to me! I especially liked the Dutch folding ruler and the No. 12 scraper plane. I think you are right about the "scale", that thing is pretty ornate and wild looking. Probably very old.
I was thinking maybe they could put weights in the little holders up top and attach whatever they were weighing to some kind of hook on the bottom. Definitely a unique piece

At 9:35, that looks like a float, or at least the cutting teeth do... I know they come in weird styles, but I've never seen one with the double handles on it. Edit: floats are used like rasps but they basically have saw teeth that are really wide. Commonly used to flatten wooden plane beds. At 11:15, that's a shinto rasp, and the rake thing almost looks like those tools carpenters use to draw two boards under tension close together, though I'm not certain.
Thanks for the info! Definitely a Shinto rasp - lots of folks smarter than me around here 😅 I’ve seen a float or two but like you, I haven’t seen one shaped like this.

Nice haul MJ. Hope you and family are doing well. That rasp looks like a Shinto Rasp. Semper Fi bud.
The consensus seems to be that it *is a Shinto rasp. Good call.
Hope all is well up your way too!

The scorp is still available and I can assure you it will be a lot less than $175 if you’re interested
I was surprised to see that Paul Sellers uses a Shinto Rasp.
My mother was a carpet stretcher
What a haul. I actually find the ECE block plane cool, the 100 1/2 and the Big-*** draw knife!
Thanks for watching all the way thru! If I had a use for that monster draw knife I would keep it for sure.
Very nice usable collection. I agree with other comment, it looks like a Shinto file. Two sides, course and fine.
Yep, this guy had it going on for sure. And to think, I didn’t even show everything I got that day.
Stoked on ur score M J , that strange file at towards the end i believe is a SHINTO rasp, Japanese rasp, THANX for the videos
Yall keep watching em and I’ll keep making em! Thank you ! 🙏🏻
That scale is very cool.
Agreed. It’s probably missing some parts but it’s cool nonetheless
Shinto rasp, I believe
Nice haul! ❤
I believe you’re right!
Jealous. It sucks that the 602 was broke. That 100½ is sweet! It's on my list.
The 602 is off to the UK. I’m sure it’s next owner will do great things with it
Dang man, thats a score!
Right??! Opportunities like that sure don’t come around often
Wonderful group M.J. , I was really diggin' that weather strip plane . Is it sold ?
Still available. It only has the one iron though. They came new with a handful of different sizes, or at least that’s what I hear

I am interested in the 2 items I listed above.

The rasp you were asking about looks to be a body file would be my best guess
The consensus seems to be that it’s a Shinto rasp
Edit: oops. I misunderstood what you were talking about
@@justplanefun The curved file dingus smh
@@derekdolecki2759- oh. Well when you put it that way…
11:25 Paul Sellers has a video on that rasp or one very similar. Worth checking out
He’s definitely the man! That particular rasp has gone to its next home up in Maine
11:22 is a Shinto rasp from what can tell. An older one
That seems to be the consensus. Thank you! 🙏🏻
Thanks for the shoutout!

I’ll pm you
11:22 that’s a rasp
Thanks buddy. Shinto rasp seems to be the consensus

I like the theory for the rake looking tool. I can definitely see how that could be its purpose
